Each best list is put through a customized performance analysis with specialized consideration given to our objective & data-driven performance tests. In addition, we consider mattress type, design, materials, value, price, and more.
For our Best Mattress 2024 list, we based our selections on the best-scoring mattresses for each mattress type, according to our battery of testing and formulaic driven scoring.
These tests analyze performance across 8 critical factors, including cooling, motion transfer, response time, edge support, sex, pressure relief, off-gassing, and company. In addition, we also test sinkage and bounce (though these are not scoring factors).
Our tests include objective and quantifiable data whenever possible. In addition, we use subjective assessment supported by data to round out our testing process.
Our scores are based on mathematical formulas and equations that utilize inputs from our data-driven testing.
In choosing the 8 best mattresses for 2024 we looked at the totality of all of our tests, scores, data, and reviews to date. We analyzed this data alongside our established best mattress framework here. The best mattress for each type is simply the top-scoring mattress for that respective category based on our data-driven scores.
We made the choice to organize this best of list by popular mattress types (ex. hybrid, latex, memory foam, etc.).
We thought this approach would be better, as it provides the absolute best option by type, allowing sleepers with different preferences to find the type and feel that works best for them.
The Best Value Mattresses
In addition to the 8 best mattresses by type (which are the highest scoring mattresses for each categorical type), we also included the 5 best value mattresses (also organized by type). These mattresses were selecting by choosing the mattresses with the highest score for each category, while also considering price and value.
Our objective was to choose the best performer by type while being as close to $1,000 as possible (Queen size). Notably, latex and adjustable mattress types were excluded as even the less expensive options are still notably more expensive than the $1K target. Coil was also excluded as we’ve yet to test a coil mattress that’s both inexpensive and good.

Our Verdict
The WinkBed is a 13.5″ hybrid mattress that uses pocketed coils and a layer of gel-infused foam to provide comfort and support, with a Euro top cover.
It offers a balanced feel with deep sinkage (8% deeper than average) and moderate bounce (2% more bounce than average). Despite the deep sinkage, this mattress feels cool, has a balanced and even contouring hug, and has a very fast response time with an active feel.
This mattress is available in three different firmnesses—softer (4), luxury firm (6), and firmer (7), where 10 is the most firm. There is also the Winkbed Plus, designed for heavier-weighted sleepers, which has a slightly firm (7) firmness.
Winkbed has a fantastic performance score of 9.95 overall, which ranks it as the #1 hybrid, as well as within the top 1% among all mattress types we’ve tested to date.
The Winkbed costs $1,499 for a queen, which is 15% higher than the average hybrid mattress, but given its performance advantages, the value is still exceptional.
I would recommend the Winkbed for sleepers who are looking for the best all around mattress. Winkbed has a balanced and even feel in terms of contour and hug, while achieving incredibly high performance in all of our tests.

Best Coil Mattress
Saatva Classic
Best For
- Plush euro-top cover & great cooling performance
- Moderate bounce with fast response time
- Ships uncompressed, includes in-home delivery, setup, & old mattress removal
Quick Specs
- Thickness: 11.5″ or 14.5″
- Cover: Plush Euro-top
- Trial: 365-night trial
- Returns: $99 return fee
- Warranty: Lifetime
Our Verdict
The Saatva Classic is a coil-on-coil mattress with an overall thickness of 11.5″ or 14.5″ depending on personal preference (price is the same for both thicknesses). It uses two layers of coils, topped with a small amount of comfort foam within a euro-top cover.
Saatva has a more traditional coil feel and less foam than a more typical hybrid mattress. This combination of materials gives the mattress deep sinkage and extremely high bounce, while retaining low levels of motion transfer (something other coil mattresses tend to struggle with).
The Saatva is available in three firmness levels—Plush Soft (3.5), Luxury Firm (5.5), or Firm (8), where 10 is the most firm.
This mattress has a fantastic performance score of 9.95 overall, which ranks it as the number one coil mattress, as well as within the top 1% among all mattress types we’ve tested to date.
It costs $1,696 for a queen mattress. Compared to other coil mattresses we’ve tested to date, this is 10% less than average—a savings of $182. Compared to the average hybrid ($1,352), it costs $344 more.
I would recommend the Saatva Classic for sleepers who enjoy a more traditional coil-based mattress feel.

Best Memory Foam Hybrid
Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid
Best For
- Modern memory foam feel with a balance of contour and fast response
- Medium firmness with great pressure relief
Quick Specs
- Thickness: 12″ thick
- Cover: Thin, cooling cover
- Trial: 100-night trial
- Returns: Free returns
- Warranty: 20-year
Our Verdict
The Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid mattress is a 12″ tall hybrid with a thin, washable cover and a modern memory foam feel.
It has a 3″ top layer of memory foam, which provides hug and contour, while balanced by a pocketed coil base for limited heat retention and fast response.
This mattress is available in one firmness, 5 out of 10, which is a medium feel. For a softer feel, check out the Amerisleep AS5 Hybrid.
This mattress has a fantastic performance score of 9.77 overall, which ranks as #1 for all memory foam hybrids and in the top 6% among all mattress types we’ve tested to date.
The AS3 hybrid mattress costs $1,499 for a queen, which is 3% higher than the average price for a hybrid, comparing all hybrids tested to date. The difference in a queen mattress is only $56, so fairly negligible, especially given its high performance.
I would recommend the Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid for sleepers who like the feel of memory foam, but also want improved cooling, more bounce, better sex performance, and great edge support.

Nectar Hybrid Premier
Best For
- Very fast response time (especially for a memory foam)
- More bounce than average
- Feel will appeal to many sleepers
Quick Specs
- Thickness: 13″ thick
- Cover: Thin, cooling cover
- Trial: 100-night trial
- Returns: Free returns
- Warranty: 20-year
Our Verdict
The Nectar Hybrid Premier is a 13″ hybrid mattress with a 5″ foam comfort layer (1″ thicker comfort layer than we see on the Nectar Original Hybrid) followed by a pocketed coils base.
This mattress has deep sinkage and very high bounce levels for a very engaging feel. Despite the deeper sinkage, it retains good cooling. It does struggle a bit with very high levels of motion transfer, but that may not be an issue for all sleepers.
This mattress is available in a single firmness with a medium-firm feel (6 out of 10).
The Nectar Hybrid Premier has an overall performance score of 9.45. For reference, the average memory foam hybrid score is 9.58. While the overall score is slightly below average, given the price point, it remains a solid value.
Priced at $1,099, the Nectar Hybrid Premier is 25% less than the average memory foam hybrid. So therein lies the big draw for this mattress. For a budget-friendly memory foam hybrid, the Nectar Hybrid Premier is our top pick.

Best Memory Foam Mattress
Ghostbed Luxe
Best For
- Faster response time than many other memory foams
- Extremely low motion transfer
- Excellent pressure relief despite having only 2″ of memory foam
Quick Specs
- Thickness: 11.5″ thick
- Cover: Phase change cover
- Trial: 101-night trial
- Returns: Free returns
- Warranty: 25-year
Our Verdict
The Ghostbed Luxe has a profile height of 11.5″ and contains gel-infused poly foam, a phase change cover, transitional poly foam, and a support foam base.
Despite using 100% foam (which can be more prone to heat retention) the Ghostbed Luxe maintained fantastic cooling during our tests. It has extremely deep sinkage and a dramatic hug, but retains excellent cooling and an extremely fast material response time.
This mattress comes in a single firmness with a medium-firm feel, 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale, where 01 is the most firm.
The Ghostbed Luxe has a performance score of 9.68, which is higher than the average mattress performance score of 9.52. It is the #1 ranked memory foam mattress we’ve tested to date.
For a queen mattress, it’ll cost you $1,548, which is 23% more than the average memory foam mattress. Ghostbed’s high-performance foams and fabrics notably increase the price, however, it’s also the reason for its strong performance.
I would recommend the GhostBed Luxe for sleepers who love the feel of memory foam, including the dramatic and exacting body contouring hug.

Loom and Leaf has less than amazing edge support and worse sex performance, both of which drag the overall score down.
However, its pressure relief and comfort dynamic is extraordinarily good.
So much so that this is the mattress that I have been personally sleeping on since 2017.
If you like the feel of memory foam and don’t mind giving up some of the advantages that a hybrid mattress can provide, then it’s an amazingly good pick.

Our Verdict
The Novosbed mattress is an 11″ memory foam mattress with a 4″ memory foam comfort layer and 7″ support foam, wrapped beneath a thin, Tencel cover.
It has that classic memory foam feel with high hug and contour all while retaining a faster response time. This mattress also has minimal sinkage and low bounce levels so it’s not the kind of memory foam you’ll find yourself getting overly enveloped by.
This mattress comes in three different firmness levels—soft (4), medium (6), and firm (8).
The Novosbed mattress has a performance score of 9.64, well above the average memory foam performance of 9.40. Despite its lower cost, the Novosbed mattress still performs in the top 15% of all memory foam mattresses tested to date (and top 27% of all mattresses tested to date).
This mattress is only $999 for a queen—23% less than the average memory foam mattress. The high performance and low price makes it a fantastic value.

The Awara Hybrid is a 10″ latex hybrid mattress with 2″ of natural Dunlop latex and 8″ of pocketed coil support.

The Awara comes in a single firmness with a medium-firm feel, around 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale (where 10 is the most firm).
Overall performance was excellent with a score of 9.70, placing the mattress in the top 17% compared to all mattresses tested to date.

Best Latex Mattress
Zenhaven
Best For
- Exceptionally good cooling
- Extremely low levels of motion transfer, despite the low-profile height & latex
- Extremely fast material response time
Quick Specs
- Thickness: 10″ thick
- Cover: Quilted cover
- Trial: 365-night trial
- Returns: $99 return fee

Our Verdict
The Zenhaven is a 10″ latex foam mattress with a flippable design. It uses 2 layers of natural, hole-punched latex and quilted covers on both sides.
Overall performance on the Zenhaven was exceedingly impressive. The latex Zenhaven uses is unusually airy, creating a significant level of air outflow from the side panel each time you move around on the mattress. This creates fantastic cooling and breathability in a material that already resists heat retention.
The Gentle Firm side has a slightly firm feel with a firmness of 7.5 out of 10. The Luxury Plush has a medium feel with a firmness of 5 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm.
The Zenhaven has an above average score of 9.81, which also makes it the top-scoring latex foam mattress we’ve tested to date by a healthy margin.
Priced at $2,801 for a queen mattress, this mattress is 38% more expensive than the price of the average latex foam mattress ($2,027), but considering its high performance, it’s still a strong choice for many.
I would recommend the Zenhaven for sleepers who want the absolute best all latex foam performance on the market. It’s incredibly high performance, looks and feels extremely well made, and notably excels in areas that latex often struggles with, including motion transfer and edge support.

Best Adjustable
iSense Premier Hybrid
Best For
- Adjustable mattress with low levels of motion transfer
- Exceptional pressure relief, even for heavier sleepers
- Excellent edge support, thanks to a 4.0″ perimeter edge foam
Quick Specs
- Thickness: 13.5″ thick
- Cover: Thin cover
- Trial: 180-night trial
- Returns: Free returns
- Warranty: 10-year
Our Verdict
The iSense Premier is a 13.5″ thick adjustable mattress that combines the benefit of adjustable air with traditional foam and coil construction.
Because air isn’t providing the majority of the support, the iSense is able to deliver better pressure relief without sacrificing support, even when at the softer firmness settings.
Being adjustable, the iSense Premier has a firmness range of 4.5 to 7 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm, giving it a soft to slightly firm feel.
The performance score of 9.75 of the iSense is above the average (9.52), comparing all mattresses tested to date, even non-adjustable options. It’s also the highest-scoring adjustable mattress we’ve tested to date.
When comparing the price tag for a queen mattress, the mattress is $2,647 more than the average price of a hybrid mattress. However, at $3,999 for a Queen it’s fairly typical compared to other high-end adjustable mattresses.
I would recommend the iSense Premier for sleepers who have a hard time being comfortable at a single firmness and/or couples who have drastically different firmness preferences.

Our Verdict
The WinkBed Plus is a hybrid mattress specifically designed for sleepers over 300 lbs. (up to 900 lbs. total, or 450 lbs. per side). The WinkBed Plus is a modified version of the standard Winkbed with extra support, including the addition of a 2.5-inch perforated latex directly below the pillowtop for extra support and response.
It has deep sinkage with low levels of bounce, creating high contour without sacrificing support. This feel may not be ideal for sensitive sleepers, as it does have higher levels of motion transfer. However, higher motion transfer is more typical in a plus-sized mattress, due to the nature of the more supportive and resilient materials.
The Winkbed Plus has a slightly firm feel with a firmness of 7 out of 10 (where 10 is the most firm).
The overall performance score of 9.82 makes it the top-performing plus-sized mattress we’ve tested to date.
Pricing on the Winkbed Plus is $1,699 for a queen, which makes it 10% more than the average plus-sized mattress ($1,543). Even so, given the higher performance, this mattress would be a solid value for many sleepers.
I would recommend the Winkbed Plus for sleepers over 250 lbs. as it is best suited for sleepers with larger bodies. This would include back, stomach, or side sleepers. Lighter weight sleepers (especially those who sleep on their side) will likely feel too much pushback when lying on this mattress to be comfortable.

Our Verdict
The Helix Plus mattress is a 13″ hybrid that has a 4.25″ comfort layer with three layers of foam, followed by an 8.0″ pocketed coil base.
It offers very minimal sinkage and a moderate level of bounce. Motion transfer is low and response time is fast, giving this mattress a balanced feel.
The Helix Plus comes in a single firmness with a slightly firm feel (7 out of 10). This firmness helps to support heavier sleepers while still providing adequate pressure relief.
This mattress has an overall performance score of 9.72, putting it in the top 13% of all mattresses tested to date.
It costs $1,199 for a queen mattress, which is 20% less than the average plus-sized hybrid.
For a high-performing mattress for plus-sized sleepers on a budget, the Helix Plus is arguably the best value pick on the market.
