Best For

  • Excellent edge support. Even while sitting directly on the edge the max compression was only 3.75” (which is 1.1” better than average).
  • Motion transfer kept fairly low.
  • Very little off-gassing / smell.

Considerations

  • Cooling leaves something to be desired. We measured higher than average surface level temperatures (92.0°F)
  • Response time is on the slower side.
  • High bounce rate. Some sleepers will love it, but it could be too much for some.

Our Verdict

The DreamCloud Premier is a luxury hybrid mattress with 8.0″ of pocketed coils and 4.5″ of foam on top. It comes from the same parent company as the Nectar mattress, but the two mattresses are far from twins.

This mattress offers good, but not great cooling, a fast response time, and moderate pressure relief. Sinkage was about average, with low motion transfer, high bounce, and excellent edge support as well.

Among the entire DreamCloud line, the Premier was by far the best-performing model we tested. It seems to strike a material and design balance better than the other DreamCloud mattresses. It’s not a perfect hybrid, but at this price point, it’s still a solid buy for many sleepers.

How is the DreamCloud Premier Different?

The DreamCloud Premier mattress has poorer performance than average, but also a lower price point—18% cheaper than the average hybrid mattress.

Advantages

Besides the lower price, other advantages of the DreamCloud Premier mattress include lower levels of motion transfer, improved edge support, and

Neutral Factors

This mattress has slightly less sinkage than average as well as 15% more bounce than average. While these tend to be more preferential factors, they do impact the overall feel and experience when sleeping or lying on the mattress.

This mattress has a 14″ mattress thickness, usually meaning better pressure relief, but we didn’t really see great pressure relief performance so this is kind of a neutral factor.

Disadvantages

Cooling is notably worse on the DreamCloud compared to the average mattress. It also struggles a bit with slower material response time.

Cooling Test

Cooling on the DreamCloud Premier mattress is good, but not great. In our objective tests, we measured a maximum surface level temperature of 92.0°F.

This is 1.1° warmer than the average of 90.9°F across all mattresses we’ve tested to date.

  • Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
  • Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

The heat dissipation curve was better. With the temperature dropping from 92.0° to 86.8° within 1 minute, a decline of 5.2°F. Dissipation was gradual over the 5 minute period after we got off the mattress, with a final temperature of 83.9° after 5 minutes.

While the heat dissipation was reasonably good, it doesn’t solve the larger problem of overall heat retention and high maximum temperature.

Subjectively speaking, during the cooling test I did feel a notable level of warmness.

I wasn’t hot, but it’s clear the cooling performance just isn’t as good on the DreamCloud Premier mattress as it has been on other mattresses we’ve tested.

DreamCloud Premier mattress materials
DreamCloud Premier mattress materials

This was a bit of a surprise, given that it uses a hybrid design.

DreamCloud’s sister-brand, Nectar, performed notably better when it came to cooling.

This is despite the fact that the Nectar mattress line is 100% foam.

If you are a naturally warm / hot sleeper you would probably be better off with Nectar or a different mattress. See our Nectar, Nectar Premier, & Nectar Premier Copper reviews for more info, as well as our other mattress reviews.

Sinkage Test

In our sinkage test, we measured a maximum compression of 1.94”. This is within the normal range for what we see across most mattresses, but especially on medium firmness mattresses.

Sinkage Feel

Minimal

The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

DreamCloud Premier sinkage test
DreamCloud Premier sinkage test

On average, across all mattresses we’ve tested to date, the average sinkage depth is 2.17”. While the DreamCloud Premier is a little below average, it’s not far off. As a result, most sleepers would find the level of sinkage to be more than sufficient.

9.8

Motion Transfer Test

Motion transfer was low on the DreamCloud Premier. The level of motion transfer is documented in the video below.

In our accelerometer test, we measured a total acceleration range of 5.67 m/s². These results are better than the average of 8.33 m/s².

Max. Acceleration

2.81 m/s²

Min. Acceleration

Despite the fact that the DreamCloud uses pocketed coils, it does a nice job of mitigating energy and keeping motion to a minimum.

DreamCloud Premier motion transfer chart
DreamCloud Premier motion transfer chart

As you can see in the graph, above, the higher levels of motion transfer are still not really that high and by 0.25 seconds the acceleration level had decreased by over 50%. By 0.5 seconds, the motion was nearly gone.

9.6

Response Test

Response time was moderately slow. In our tests, we measured 0.9 seconds for the DreamCloud Premier to mostly recover to its original shape. A full recovery of all materials takes 1.5 seconds.

Mostly Recovered

0.9 sec.

Complete Recovery

1.5 sec.

The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.

While this is significantly better than the original DreamCloud mattress, it’s still far from great. The average response time for materials to mostly recover is 0.4 seconds (based on all of our mattress tests).

However, the best-performing mattresses routinely hit 0.3 seconds. Again, it’s hard to not compare DreamCloud to its sister brand, Nectar.

DreamCloud vs. Nectar?

While Nectar’s original model isn’t amazing when it comes to response, the Nectar Premier (0.4 seconds) & Nectar Premier Copper (0.3 seconds) were both excellent when it comes to response time.

The foam materials used within the DreamCloud mattress definitely have a more classic memory foam feel & design, and a part of that includes slow-responding foams.

Bounce Test

Bounce on the DreamCloud Premier mattress was high. In our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 11.03”.

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.

This is on the higher side, but still within a reasonable and desirable level. On average we see a total bounce height of 9.62”.

All that said, bounce is more of a preferential factor. More bounce isn’t necessarily better or worse, except when it comes to sex (which we’ll discuss below).

9.6

Edge Support Test

Edge support was excellent. I was pretty worried edge support was going to be less-than-great after the performance was measured on the original Dreamcloud mattress.

Lying Support

Excellent

The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.

As you can see in the images below, the Dreamcloud Premier came to play. We measured a maximum edge support compression of only 3.75”. These are fantastic results, especially for having 4.5″ of foam and the plush cover.

On average (across all mattresses tested to date), we see a maximum compression of 4.78”.

The DreamCloud Premier is significantly better than the average and does an excellent job of maintaining support even when sitting directly on the edge.

Edge support while lying on the edge is equally as impressive. I felt well-supported even while lying right up on the edge of the mattress.

9.8

Sex Test

The best mattresses for sex have high bounce, good edge support, quiet materials, and good pressure relief and cooling.

These 5 factors make up the NapLab sex performance score.

Sex FactorFactor WeightScoreRating
Bounce60%10High
Edge Support20%9.6Excellent
Noise10%10Minimal
Pressure Relief5%9Very Good
Cooling5%8.5Good

For the DreamCloud Premier, these individual factors generated a sex score of 9.8.

Let’s talk about some of the scoring factors.

First (and arguably most important), is bounce. You typically need good bounce to experience good sex and the DreamCloud Premier doesn’t disappoint.

The pocketed coils really have the engaging support to give this mattress excellent bounce.

DreamCloud Premier stomach sleeping
DreamCloud Premier stomach sleeping

Edge support is also fantastic. Despite being a hybrid mattress, the coils are virtually silent and we didn’t have any complaints about the noise on this mattress.

The two biggest issues with sex on the DreamCloud are pressure relief and cooling.

As you saw in the cooling tests above, this mattress retains quite a bit of heat, which is odd for hybrids. In addition, the pressure relief just left something desired. It’s not bad, but I routinely test mattresses with better pressure relief.

9.0

Pressure Relief Test

Like both cooling and response time, pressure relief is good, but not great. And based on numbers alone you really wouldn’t think that pressure relief would be an issue.

After all, there is 5.5″ of comfort material before you get to the coils.

Comfort Layer

5.5″

Support Layer

8.5″

But again, I find myself comparing it to the Nectar line of mattresses, all of which crushed pressure relief.

The top layers of foam within the DreamCloud Premier create a less-than-great feeling. They feel incredibly dense and somehow not well connected to the other mattress layers.

DreamCloud Premier strap logo

As a result, the feel is needlessly supportive and firm in areas where it needs more give to create pressure relief. Again, it’s not bad pressure relief, just not as good as what we’ve seen elsewhere.

9.9

Off-Gassing Test

Upon initial unboxing of the mattress, there was a minor smell. That smell lingered for 1 day and then there was zero strong odor coming off the mattress. Frankly, this is a pretty surprising performance.

Initial Smell Strength

Generally, more classic memory foam mattresses have a stronger odor. As a result, I was expecting a strong smell for at least several days.

DreamCloud Premier unboxing

The DreamCloud Premier handles smell well, likely in part due to half a dozen deodorizer packs that are included with the mattress. Those packs seem to make a big difference when it comes to keeping off-gassing smells to a minimum.

The company policies from DreamCloud mimic the terms and conditions of Nectar mattress. Overall, they are pretty favorable towards consumers.

DreamCloud offers a 365-night trial and a limited lifetime warranty.

The trial period and warranty are both longer than most others we typically see from competing companies.

Shipping is free. Returns are free. In addition, the mattress is shipped from a facility located within the US. But that being said, the materials are sourced from outside of the US. However, the materials themselves are assembled within the US.

How firm is the DreamCloud Premier?

The DreamCloud Premier has a bit of a firmer feel compared to other mattresses that are a true medium. This mattress comes in closer to a 7 out of 10 where 10 is the most firm.

firmness - 7 out of 10 - medium firm

It would be suitable for a pretty wide range of sleepers but definitely leans more towards back sleepers, stomach sleepers, or heavier-weight sleepers.

Materials

There are four distinct layers on the DreamCloud Premier hybrid. From top to bottom, the layers include:

  • 1.0″ pillow top cover
  • 2.5″ memory foam
  • 1.0″ poly foam (transitional)
  • 8.5″ pocketed coils

The Cover

The cover of the DreamCloud Premier uses a high loft memory foam encased with a cashmere-blend, ultra-soft fabric.

DreamCloud Premier mattress cover
DreamCloud Premier mattress cover

This fabric is stitched together in a scalloped pattern for a nice aesthetic. On the side of the mattress is a contrasting, dark navy fabric.

Aside from visual contrast, this navy fabric is thicker and improves durability as well as handles for lifting the mattress easier.

The sides are micro-tufted, which creates an interesting dotted pattern along the sides of the DreamCloud Premier.

The Comfort Layer

The comfort layer is 4.5″ thick, but that includes transitional foams. The breakdown is a three-layer foam assembly. On the top is the Euro cover and plush pillowtop (approx. 1.0″ thick).

DreamCloud Premier memory foam layer

Directly beneath the pillowtop cover is a 2.0″ thick layer of memory foam followed by 1.5″ of poly foam.

The poly foam acts more as a transitional foam between the comfort memory foam and the support of the pocketed coils below.

The Support Layer

Below the foam is an 8.0″ thick layer of pocketed coils. These coils are individually encased with fabric and are designed to move independently of each other.

This layer produces good bounce, while still limiting motion transfer.

Pocketed coils are also better for cooling, but with the 4.5″ of foam above, it’s a bit harder to really get the full cooling and airflow benefits from these coils.

Product Evolution

DreamCloud is a child brand that launched from the larger parent company that developed the Nectar mattress.

Nectar was developed in 2017 and DreamCloud was quick to follow suit in 2018.

The DreamCloud Premier mattress was developed as a luxury, high-end mattress option over the original Nectar mattress. Furthermore, the DreamCloud Premier was launched as a luxury hybrid.

DreamCloud Premier corner

The higher 14″ profile, plush Euro cover, and inclusion of ultra-soft cashmere are all nods to the more luxury design of the DreamCloud.

Of course, with a little luxury oftentimes comes a higher price tag.

The original Nectar mattress (queen) is listed for a sale price of $799, while the DreamCloud Premier is $1,399 for the same size.

Premier vs. Premier Rest

Considering the DreamCloud Premier, but also want to take a look at the Premier Rest?

Both of these are high-quality hybrids from the DreamCloud collection. Check out the similarities and differences below:

For a similar hybrid mattress with 4.5″ of comfort materials, but better pressure relief, check out the Aurora hybrid by Brooklyn Bedding. This mattress uses zoned coils that respond differently at different areas of the mattress, providing a more customized feel.

For Different Firmness

Layla Hybrid

2-in-1 Flippable Hybrid

For a softer or firmer feel, consider the Layla Hybrid. This is a flippable hybrid that has a firmer side (7.5 out of 10) as well as a softer side (4.5 out of 10). This can be a nice option if you’re not sure what firmness is right for you. Edge support is a little lacking, but overall, the scores are comparable.

No. The best way to try out this mattress is to take advantage of the 365-night trial period. This lets you try the mattress in your own home.

How to clean a DreamCloud mattress?

Cleaning the DreamCloud Premier mattress is similar to how you would clean any other foam-based mattress. You can spot clean with cold water and mild detergent or vacuum the mattress. To avoid stains and spills altogether, consider adding a waterproof mattress pad or a 6-sided mattress encasement.

How tall is the DreamCloud Premier?

The DreamCloud Premier is 14″ thick.

Yes. The DreamCloud Premier has a thicker profile than many other mattresses and a thicker 4.5″ comfort layer which helps support larger sleepers. In addition, the coil base provides more support than an all-foam mattress will typically provide.

What is the difference between DreamCloud Premier and Premier Rest?

The DreamCloud Premier has a thicker profile (16″ vs. 14″) with part of that being an extra thick pillow top.

The Premier Rest has 6.5″ of comfort material while the regular Premier has only 4.5″ of comfort material.
