Nectar

Type: Memory Foam or Memory Foam Hybrid

Our Verdict

In the matchup of Winkbed vs. Nectar, there is some overlap, but also some stark differences between the two brands.

Nectar offers a mid-range memory foam mattress collection with deeper contour and less motion transfer. Nectar also offers a hybrid collection, but we’re specifically looking at the memory foam mattresses in this comparison.

Winkbed’s most popular mattresses are their traditional hybrids, but the lineup also extends into latex hybrids, or a memory foam mattresses as well.

Nectar has a longer trial overall and a lower price point, but Winkbeds has better performance and a more luxury feel.

If you want a more balanced hybrid with a more traditional feel then Winkbed is the better choice. Winkbed is also the better choice if you need a soft or firm feel, as Nectar only offers medium and medium firm feels.

Nectar is the better choice if you want a more pronounced feel of memory foam. Nectar’s memory foam creates a more exacting and dramatic contouring hug around the body.

Performance Tests

At NapLab, we put each mattress to the test.

We test 10 different factors that impact the comfort, feel, and value of the mattress. Testing categories include:

  1. Cooling
  2. Sinkage
  3. Motion Transfer
  4. Response
  5. Bounce
  6. Edge Support
  7. Sex
  8. Pressure Relief
  9. Off-Gassing

The Winkbed Original Hybrid scored top mattress overall, earning the highest marks for best cooling, fastest response time, most bounce, best edge support, best for sex, best pressure relief, and the least off-gassing.

The Winkbed Plus (hybrid) tied with the Winkbed Original for best cooling and best pressure relief. The Plus also has the most sinkage among all 5 mattresses compared here.

The Nectar Original earned honors for the least amount of sinkage and the least bounce. Not quite a positive aspect, but it also had the slowest response time of all mattresses in this comparison. This is due to its more traditional memory foam feel.

The Nectar Premier Copper had the best score for the lowest motion transfer levels.

Cooling Test

Cooling on the Winkbed was a clear win over cooling on the Nectar mattresses. These results were fairly expected since the Winkbeds are hybrids and the Nectar mattresses here are 100% foam (and memory foam at that.)

For a Nectar mattress with better cooling performance, check out the Nectar Hybrids. These mattresses have cooling scores of 9.5, combining foam and pocketed coils for better airflow.

Bounce Test

The level of bounce between these mattresses varies from very low to moderate. In most cases, foam-based mattresses will have less bounce than hybrid (foam + coil) mattresses. But as we see below, that’s not always the case (see Nectar Premier all-foam vs. Winkbed Plus hybrid).

Bounce TestBounce HeightBounce Range
Nectar OriginalVery Low4.76″
Nectar PremierLow7.10″
Nectar Premier CopperVery Low5.14″
WinkbedModerate9.91″
Winkbed PlusLow6.75″

The average level of bounce across all mattresses tested to date is 9.35″. With this number in mind, all of the mattresses in this comparison have less bounce than average, excluding the Winkbed Original, which is slightly beyond the average.

The Nectar Original had the least amount of bounce closely followed by the Nectar Premier Copper.

The Winkbed Plus had about 30% less bounce than average at 6.75″ and the Nectar Premier was next at 7.10″. Both of these mattresses would be considered to be a low level of bounce.

With the most bounce in this comparison, we have the Winkbed Original hybrid. This mattress had a moderate level of bounce with 9.91″. As mentioned above, this is slightly more bounce than average.

Bounce levels can also be viewed in real time via the short video clips below.

Sex Test

Our sex rating formula looks at 5 different factors weighted based on their importance.

Sex Percent Chart

All factors are not equal in terms of significance, but each plays an important role.

Through our tests, we subjectively assigned the following percentages to each category within the overall sex score:

  • Bounce: 60%
  • Edge Support: 20%
  • Noise: 10%
  • Pressure Relief: 5%
  • Cooling: 5%

Using this method, we generated the following scores below:

Sex TestSex ScoreBounceEdge SupportNoisePressure ReliefCooling
Nectar Original8.88.78.4109.59.0
Nectar Premier9.19.37.9109.59.5
Nectar Premier Copper8.98.88.4109.59.5
Winkbed9.910109.01010
Winkbed Plus9.49.2109.01010

With all of these factors in mind, the Winkbed Original (9.9) ranks best for sex, with the Winkbed Plus (9.4) following closely behind.

Nectar lacks coil support so at the end of the day, it just doesn’t have the level of bounce that Winkbed has. The Nectar Premier (9.1) was the best among all foam-based Nectar mattresses here. The Nectar Original and Nectar Premier Copper struggled more, noting lower bounce and poorer edge support.

Want better sex on Nectar? Check out the Nectar Hybrids for improved sex performance. Nectar hybrids have a coil support system that improves edge support and enhances bounce, improving the sex score dramatically.

Below, I’ve listed the sex scores for Nectar hybrids.

  • Nectar Hybrid Original: 9.7
  • Nectar Hybrid Premier: 9.8
  • Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper: 9.8

Pressure Relief Test

Pressure relief on Winkbed and Nectar mattresses is good, albeit slightly better on Winkbed. Both of these brands offer thick comfort layers and sufficiently thick support layers.

Pressure Relief TestScoreComfort LayerSupport Layer
Nectar Original9.55.0″7.0″
Nectar Premier9.56.0″7.0″
Nectar Premier Copper9.55.0″9.0″
Winkbed105.0″9.0″
Winkbed Plus105.5″9.0″

For the absolute best performance in this category, go with the Winkbed Original or Winkbed Plus.

Off-Gassing Test

Moving right along, let’s talk about off-gassing. Most of these mattresses had solid performance here with off-gassing. Although the smell right out of the box may be strong, off-gassing happens within a couple of days.

Off-Gassing TestScoreInitial SmellOff-Gassing Period
Nectar Original9.7Moderate4 days
Nectar Premier9.7Strong4 days
Nectar Premier Copper9.8Strong3 days
Winkbed10None0 days
Winkbed Plus9.9Moderate1 days

The average amount of time that it usually takes a mattress to off-gas is 2.84 days so all of these mattresses would be considered better than average in this category.

If you’re sensitive to strong smells, the Winkbed Original had zero smell out of the box.

The Winkbed Plus had a moderate smell, but that smell dissipated after only 1 day.

The Nectar lineup had a moderate to strong smell which took 3-4 days to fully dissipate.

Company

When looking at the companies both have good terms, each with its own advantages.

CompanyNectarWinkbed
Trial Period365 nights120 nights
WarrantyLifetimeLifetime
ShippingFreeFree
ReturnsFreeFree
Country of OriginOtherUSA

The Nectar mattresses have a longer trial, 365 nights, giving sleepers a solid year to decide if the mattress is right. Their mattresses are also backed by a lifetime warranty.

Winkbed mattresses only have a 120-night trial period, but they do have a lifetime warranty, like Nectar

In most cases, you will likely know if this mattress is the right pick for you within the first 120 nights so the difference in trial length may not be a huge factor for all sleepers.

Firmness

The firmness level of Winkbed and Avocado ranges from 4 to 7 out of 10, depending on which mattress you’re looking at.

Winkbed Firmness Chart

The Nectar Premier Copper is the softest Nectar in this comparison—5 out of 10 on the firmness scale.

Firmness Chart 5

The Nectar Premier mattress is just slightly firmer at 5.5 out of 10. This would still be considered a medium feel and suitable for a wide range of sleeper body weights and preferences.

Firmness 55@4x

The Winkbed Plus is available in a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale, the same firmness as the Winkbed Original Firm.

Firmness Chart 7

This firmer feel can be beneficial for heavier sleepers or those who sleep on their back or stomach.

Support & Sleeping Positions

As you might imagine, not all firmnesses are suitable for all sleepers. It’s important to know your ideal firmness prior to purchasing a new mattress.

Your ideal firmness comes down to sleeper size, sleeping position, and personal preference.

What Firmness Is Right For You3

The chart above helps to provide a firmness range of mattresses you may want to consider based on two of these factors. Personal preference can move the needle of ideal firmness a little as well, so be sure to consider all factors of the mattress before making a final selection.

Design

Both Winkbed and Nectar provide a range of different design types including memory foam, latex, or hybrid. Use the table below for a quick assessment of mattress design types between the two brands.

Which Mattress Should You Buy?

So considering Winkbed vs. Nectar, which mattress is right for you? Let’s hit the highlights below.

Should You Buy the Winkbed Original Hybrid?

I would recommend the Winkbed Original Hybrid if you’re looking for:

  • Best overall. If you’re looking for a well-rounded mattress that has a fantastic score in every category we test for, the Winkbed is it. Of all the mattresses that we’ve tested to date, this mattress is tied with only one other mattress for the top-scoring mattress, per NapLab scoring guidelines. Overall, it’s just a fantastic mattress.
  • Multiple firmness levels. This mattress is also the only one in this comparison that is available in three different firmnesses—soft (4), medium (6), or firm (7).

Click here to learn more or to check the price of the Winkbed Original (Soft, Luxury Firm, or Firm) mattress.

Should You Buy the Winkbed Plus?

I would recommend the Winkbed Plus for the following:

  • Heavier sleepers. Sleepers over 250 lbs. can greatly benefit from the thicker profile of the Winkbed Plus. In addition, the firmer feel can help provide better support for heavier sleepers.
  • Firm feel. Regardless of your body weight, if you simply want a firm feel, the Winkbed Plus is a good choice. Heavier bodies and some back / stomach sleepers may enjoy the firm feel of the Winkbed Plus.

Click here to learn more or to check the price of the Winkbed Plus mattress.

Should You Buy the Nectar Original?

I would recommend the Nectar Original for the following:

  • Low bounce. Being a memory foam mattress, the Nectar Original has the lowest level of bounce among all mattresses in this comparison.
  • Don’t mind a slow response. This mattress also has a slow response time, one of the slowest we’ve tested to date among all NapLabtested mattresses. The slow response does lend itself to very low levels of motion transfer, which can be a benefit to sensitive sleepers.

Click here to learn more or to check the price of the Nectar Original mattress.

Should You Buy the Nectar Premier?

I would recommend the Netcar Premier for the following:

  • 5.5 out of 10 firmness. The Nectar Premier has is slightly softer than other medium firmness mattresses which tend to come in at 6 out of 10. If you’re looking for something just a tad softer, the Premier is a solid pick.
  • Mid-range price point. The Nectar Premier mattress is more expensive than the Nectar Original, but less expensive than the Premier Copper. For a balance of performance (and don’t mind the worse edge support) the Nectar Premier could be a good option.

Click here to learn more or to check the price of the Nectar Premier mattress.

Should You Buy the Nectar Premier Copper?

I would recommend the Nectar Premier Copper for the following:

  • Lowest motion transfer. This mattress had the lowest motion transfer levels among any other mattresses in this comparison.—great for sensitive sleepers.
  • 365-night trial period. The Premier Copper gives you a full year to decide if the mattress is the right fit for you (along with all other Nectar mattresses).

Click here to learn more or to check the price of the Nectar Premier Copper mattress.

The Final Word

Both Winkbed mattresses and Nectar mattresses are well-known in the industry and offer quality mattresses. Winkbeds is most well-known for their hybrids models, but offers others as well (memory foam or latex hybrid).

On the opposite side, Nectar is most well-known for their memory foam mattresses, although they also offer hybrids with foam + coils.

For higher bounce, faster response, and excellent cooling go with Winkbeds. For lower levels of motion transfer, good pressure relief, and lower bounce opt for Nectar.
