Considerations

  • Higher levels of motion transfer may be less than ideal for some couples
  • Only currently available in Canada

Our Verdict

The Logan and Cove Choice mattress is a 12″ hybrid with well-rounded performance, 3″ of comfort foam, and 9″ of zoned support coils below. This mattress is a good pick for a range of sleepers as it has a medium-firm feel and is supportive enough for heavier sleepers.

Sleepers over 250 lbs. may want to use caution as it only has 3″ of comfort material and may cause pressure relief issues for sleepers beyond this weight. Even so, for most sleepers the Logan & Cove Choice is a solid pick and a great value.

How is Logan and Cove Different?

The Logan and Cove Choice mattress has a higher performance score than average and is also priced well below average —46% less than the average hybrid.

Cooling, response time, and edge support all performance above average. This mattress also has nearly 2X the average trial period length, giving you more time to decide if it’s the right fit for you.

Motion transfer levels are higher than average, which does hurt performance a bit, but may not be as important to all sleepers. It also has 1.0″ less comfort material than the 4.1″ average.

Considering preference factors, the Logan & Cove Choice has 15% deeper sinkage than average, as well as 17% higher levels of bounce.

Cooling Test

Cooling performance on the Logan & Cove Choice is excellent. During our tests, I felt no significant level of heat retention.

Baseline Temp.

82.2° F

Max Temp.

92.8° F

Ending Temp.

87.0° F

The mattress seems to breathe well and there are no major cooling issues. The relatively thin 3.0” comfort layer is definitely helping here, as thicker all-foam comfort layers (while better for pressure relief) can cause heat retention issues.

Max Temp.

Ending Temp

Logan And Cove Choice After Cooling Test
Logan And Cove Choice After Cooling Test
  • Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
  • Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
  • Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

In addition, the extra thick 9.0” pocketed coil support layer provides ample airflow. The gel poly foam, a lack of memory foam, a relatively thin comfort layer, and the support coil base all combine together to aid in cooling performance.

In our objective data, we measured a max surface level temperature of 92.8° F. After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 4.4° from minutes 0 to 1.

While the Logan & Cove Choice isn’t the absolute best cooling we’ve tested, it’s respectably good and I expect most sleepers will find it sufficiently cool enough.

Sinkage Test

The Logan & Cove Choice has a deep level of sinkage. In our pressure point sinkage tests, we measured a sinkage depth of 2.52”. This is 0.33” more sinkage than the average of 2.19”.

The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The quilted cover and top foam layers are quite soft and plush. While the total firmness of the mattress is medium-firm, the top layers don’t put up my resistance to pressure.

This creates excellent pressure relief and comfort, but also allows the body to sink down more significantly into the mattress. The comfort layer is built from all poly foam. This fact, combined with the quilted cover, creates a more balanced type of hug.

Logan And Cove Choice Sinkage

It doesn’t as sharply contour to your body in the same way that a memory foam is going to. This is neither good nor bad, but it is a specific feel.

Those who really love the dramatic hug of memory foam won’t love the feel as much, while those who have slept on more traditional coil or hybrid mattresses will find the transition to Logan & Cove Choice easier to make.

8.5

Motion Transfer Test

The Logan & Cove Choice has a moderate level of motion transfer. In our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 11.04 m/s².

Max. Acceleration

4.13 m/s²

Min. Acceleration

-6.91 m/s²

Accel. Range

11.04 m/s²

This is 36% more motion transfer than the average of 8.08 m/s². The relatively soft top comfort layers, responsive poly foam (as opposed to memory foam), and tall 9.0” pocketed coil unit all serve to create higher levels of motion.

While these same design elements improve cooling, pressure relief, and sex, they aren’t doing any favors for motion.

The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.

In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion from 0 to 0.21 seconds.

Motion drops thereafter, with a minor secondary spike at around 0.49 seconds. By 0.92 seconds motion has returned to near-zero levels. While the total motion intensity is less than ideal, I was pleased with how quickly the mattress was able to dissipate the energy.

Logan And Cove Choice Motion Transfer Chart
Logan And Cove Choice Motion Transfer Chart

Yes, we do see a secondary spike at 0.49 seconds, however, it’s quite small. For most sleepers, the only significant motion event will be that initial spike that lasts for around 0.2 seconds.

Overall, I’m quite pleased with the recorded motion transfer on the Logan & Cove Choice.

10

Response Test

The Logan & Cove Choice has an extremely fast response time. In our tests, we measured a mostly recovered response speed of 0.2 seconds and a fully recovered time of 0.4 seconds.

Mostly Recovered

0.2 sec.

Complete Recovery

0.4 sec.

The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.

Both of these are significantly faster than the average of 0.43 and 0.87 seconds, respectively. Logan & Cove was only 0.1 seconds slower than the most responsive mattresses we’ve tested to date (0.3 seconds for a full recovery is #1).

The hybrid design and responsive poly foams ensure sleepers never feel stuck, the mattress is easy to move around on and enhances sex.

Bounce Test

The Logan & Cove Choice has a high level of bounce. In our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 11.32”. This is 1.65” more bounce than the average of 9.67”.

Max. Depth

5.79″

Max Bounce Height

Ideally, I like to see bounce in the 8-12” range. It’s enough to maximize benefits (ease of movement and sex), while minimizing negatives (motion transfer and trampoline feel). At 11.32” the Choice is within that range.

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.

While motion could have definitely been kept lower if bounce were lower, it would have also negatively impacted ease of movement and sex. Overall, I found the 11.32” bounce height to be a good and balanced feel. I expect most sleepers will find this level of bounce to be acceptable.

10

Edge Support Test

The Logan & Cove Choice has exceptionally good sitting edge support and excellent lying edge support.

Max Sinkage

3.00″

Lying Support

Excellent

In our sitting edge support tests, we measured a sinkage compression of 3.0”. This is 1.21” less edge sinkage than the average 4.21”. Ideally, I want to see 4.0” of edge compression or less. So the Choice easily hit and exceeded my benchmark.

The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.

Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

Even when sitting directly on the edge of the mattress I felt well supported. Lying edge support was nearly as good. While lying on the edge of the mattress I felt well supported in all sleeping positions.

Notably, the top foam layers on the Choice are on the softer side, so you do sink through them pretty easily. However, there is only 3.0” of comfort material and then you’re supported by the 9.0” coil unit.

The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.

The coil unit is equipped with reinforced edge coils, which are having a notable impact for both sitting and lying edge support. Overall, I’m quite pleased with this level of edge support performance. Given the price point, it’s all the more impressive.

10

Sex Test

The best mattresses for sex have high bounce, good edge support, quiet materials, and good pressure relief and cooling.

These 5 factors make up the NapLab sex performance score.

Sex FactorFactor WeightScoreRating
Bounce60%10High
Edge Support20%10Exceptional

Pressure Relief5%9.5Excellent
Cooling5%9.5Excellent

For the Logan and Cove Choice, these individual factors generated a sex score of 10 out of 10.

The Logan and Cove Choice mattress has exceptional edge support, high bounce, and is very comfortable overall. All of these factors combine to create a good sex score—no issues.

Pressure Relief Test

Pressure relief on the Logan & Cove Choice mattress is excellent. During our tests, I felt no significant level of pressure point build-up.

Comfort Layer

3.0″

Support Layer

9.0″

The mattress did a fantastic job of remaining comfortable, even when lying in the same position for an extended period of time. My only significant pressure relief concern is for heavier-weighted bodies, especially those 250 pounds and up.

Logan And Cove Choice Edge Support Back Sleeping With Vest

This mattress has a relatively thin comfort layer at 3.0” thick. While the 3.0” of foam comfort material appears to be of high quality and was comfortable during our testing, 3.0” is still on the thinner side.

Based on all of our tests to date, we see an average comfort layer thickness of 4.1”.

While the thinner profile is likely to be perfectly fine for lighter and more moderate-weighted bodies, for heavier-weighted sleepers I could see pressure becoming an issue.

This is simply because heavier bodies will sink through the 3.0” layer and engage more with the support coil unit.

9.5

Off-Gassing Test

Off-gassing smell on the Logan and Cove Choice mattress was strong right out of the box. It took 6 full days for the mattress to fully off-gas, which is just a bit beyond the 4-day average we’ve seen across the board from other mattresses to date.

How firm is the Logan and Cove?

The Logan and Cove Choice mattress has a firmness of 6 out of 10 with a medium-firm feel.

firmness - 6 out of 10 - medium

This firmness strikes a nice balance between softness and support, making it a solid choice for a wide range of sleeper preferences, body weights, and sleeping positions.

Support & Sleeping Positions

The Logan & Cove Choice has excellent support. During our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions. From a material and design perspective, the mattress checks most of my boxes.

We have a 12” total profile (average is 11.9”) and 9” support coil unit (average is 7.7”). The pocketed coil unit has 5 zones, helping to create a more neutral spinal alignment.

Logan And Cove Choice Side

In addition, it has reinforced edges, improving your ability to sleep on / near the absolute edge of the mattress. While coil count isn’t everything, the Logan & Cove does have 1,200 individually wrapped coils.

When I look at the complete picture of material design and overall support performance based on our battery of tests, I am pleased with what I see. I expect the vast majority of sleepers will find the level of support to be more than sufficient.

Materials

In total, there are four distinct material layers on the Logan and Cove Choice mattress. From top to bottom, these layers include:

  • 0.5″ quilted cover
  • 1.0″ gel poly foam
  • 1.5″ poly foam
  • 8.0″ pocketed coils

The Cover

The Logan and Cove has a 0.5″ plush, quilted cover with diamond stitching. It is designed with cooling nanofibers (CryoFusion), which helps the cover to perform more like a phase-change cover and remain cool-to-the-touch.

The Comfort Layer

Directly below the fabric cover is a 1.0″ layer of gel poly foam. The gel helps to limit heat retention and pulls heat away from the sleeper.

Within the comfort layer, below the gel poly foam, is a 1.5″ transitional poly foam. This layer is designed with a bit higher density than the gel foam and relieves pressure as sleepers engage more deeply with the mattress.

The Support Layer

The support layer of this mattress is made of 9″ pocketed coils, which are individually encased in a thin fabric. It is a zoned coil system that allows for 5 unique zones of support.

Logan And Cove Choice Measuring Materials

In total, there are 1,200 pocketed coils within the queen size of the Choice mattress. More coils typically (up to a point) equate to better support and pressure relief, as weight is more evenly distributed across a higher number of pressure points.

Product Evolution

The Logan and Cove Choice mattress was launched in mid-2023. Since its release, there have been no major design or material changes. As the mattress ages and evolves, we’ll be sure to come back and update this section as needed.

The Silk & Snow mattress is a 12″ hybrid mattress with a medium-firm feel, much like the Logan & Cove Choice mattress. Priced at only C$699 for a queen, this mattress offers quite a bit of savings compared to the Choice mattress. However, it also has a thinner comfort layer (only 2″) and may not be suitable for heavier sleepers over 200 lbs.
