Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper

Our Verdict

All three of these Nectar hybrids have good performance and a similar firmness, but also offer distinct differences. The Nectar Original Hybrid is a good pick for a solid value, especially if you don’t need a thicker profile like the Premier Copper.

On the opposite end of the spectrum, the Premier Copper is great for exceptional pressure relief and a thicker comfort layer. This truly feels like a luxury mattress. The Nectar Premier falls somewhere in the middle in terms of both performance and price.

The Nectar Hybrid (original) took the title for the least amount of sinkage, least bounce, and best edge support. It did also have the slowest response time.

The Nectar Hybrid Premier hit the charts for most sinkage and most bounce.

The Premier tied with the Premier Copper for the fastest response time, best for sex, and best pressure relief.

The Nectar Premier Copper had the lowest motion transfer and also scored best overall.

All three Nectar hybrids tied for best cooling, with excellent scores of 9.5 across the board.

Cooling Test

The cooling performances on all three Nectar Hybrids were fantastic. Each mattress scored a 9.5 in this category.

  • Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
  • Ending Temperature (after 5 minutes) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

Although the exact degree data may vary, max temps never reached over 90° and ending tempt was within 4° of the baseline temp—all good signs of a strong cooling performance.

Sinkage Test

The sinkage levels of the Nectar hybrids varies depending on which style you go with.

The Hybrid Premier has the most sinkage (at 2.35″) and the Nectar Hybrid has the least sinkage (at 1.70″). The Premier Copper falls in the middle between these two.

Sinkage TestSinkage DepthMax Sinkage
Nectar HybridMinimal1.70″
Nectar Hybrid PremierDeep2.35″
Nectar Hybrid Premier CopperMinimal1.99″

The average level of sinkage across all mattresses tested to date is 2.20″. This puts the Nectar Hybrid and Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper at less sinkage than average and the Hybrid Premier at slightly more sinkage than average.

Here is a quick view of the sinkage levels of each mattress below.

Motion Transfer

Motion transfer is a bit of a problem for all the Nectar hybrids.

Motion Transfer TestScoreAcc. Range
Nectar Hybrid7.814.00 m/s²
Nectar Hybrid Premier7.614.73 m/s²
Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper8.710.04 m/s²

The average amount of motion transfer is 5.83 m/s² (based on all of our mattress tests to date). Every single one of the Nectar Hybrids is at least double that.

For Nectar with less motion transfer, you may want to opt for one of their all-foam options. This would include the:

All three of these all-foam Nectars have less motion transfer than average.

The level of motion transfer is documented in the videos below. The graphs which follow each video show a quantifiable version of motion transfer based on accelerometer data of the medicine ball drop.

On the Nectar Hybrid, you can see there is a huge spike of energy initially from the mattress and that energy continues across the mattress, in varying degrees of intensity, for over a full second.

Nectar Hybrid Premier Motion Transfer

On the Nectar Hybrid Premier, again, we see a lot of motion at the front end which continues in a pretty significant energy dip at 0.64 second. Motion transfer continues until beyond a full second.

Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper Motion Transfer Test

On the Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper, the performance as better than the Original Hybrid and the Hybrid Premier, but still not really great.

On the chart above, you can see that there is a big initial energy spike and it continues across the mattress until 0.77 seconds.

I was glad to see the energy dissipate quicker than the other mattress, but still not an excellent performance here.

Response Test

The response time on the Nectar Hybrid Premier and Premier Copper was significantly faster than the response time on the Original Hybrid.

Response TestScoreMostly RecoveredCompletely Recovered
Nectar Hybrid8.02.5 seconds6.8 seconds
Nectar Hybrid Premier100.3 seconds0.8 seconds
Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper100.3 seconds0.7 seconds

The average response time across all mattresses that we’ve tested to date is 0.56 seconds to be mostly recovered and 0.94 seconds to be fully recovered.

Following this data, we can see that the Hybrid Premier and Hybrid Premier Copper are both significantly faster than average.

However, the Nectar Hybrid is much slower than average.

You can see these material responses in real-time in the video below.

Bounce Test

The level of bounce on these hybrids varies between moderate to very high.

Bounce TestBounce HeightBounce Range
Nectar HybridModerate8.83″
Nectar Hybrid PremierVery High13.11″
Nectar Hybrid Premier CopperModerate9.30″

The average amount of bounce across all mattresses tested to date is 9.35″.

The Nectar Hybrid and the Hybrid Premier Copper are both slightly below that, having less bounce than average.

The Nectar Hybrid Premier has more bounce than that, almost 4″ more bounce than average.

Bounce levels can also be viewed in real-time via the short video clips below.

Edge Support Test

The edge support for these three Nectar hybrids was pretty good.

Edge Support TestScoreMax SinkageLying Support
Nectar Hybrid9.83.50″Very Good
Nectar Hybrid Premier9.44.25″Very Good
Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper9.63.75″Exceptional

The average level of sinkage (when sitting right at the edge of the mattress) is 4.67″.

All of these mattresses had less edge sinkage than the average.

One quick note—this is the average across the board, between all mattress types. All foam mattresses oftentimes have worse edge support than a hybrid. The coil base can help reinforce supportive edges on hybrids.

Sex Test

Here’s a look at our sex formula:

Sex Score Formula = (Bounce * 0.5) + (Edge Support * 0.2) + (Noise * 0.2) + (Sinkage * 0.05) + (Cooling * 0.05)

We use the following scores, plugged into the formula, to derive a sex score for each mattress.

Sex TestSex ScoreBounceEdge SupportNoisePressure ReliefCooling
Nectar Hybrid9.79.79.8109.09.5
Nectar Hybrid Premier9.8109.4109.59.5
Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper9.89.89.6109.59.5

So when we’re thinking about sex on each of these Nectar hybrids, which one is best?

Really any of these Nectars will yield a good performance. They all have moderate to high bounce, good edge support, minimal noise, good pressure relief, and excellent cooling.

Pressure Relief Test

Pressure relief is good for all three of these Nectars. Each mattress offers 9″ of support and between 3-5″ of comfort material.

Pressure Relief TestScoreComfort LayerSupport Layer
Nectar Hybrid9.03.0″9.0″
Nectar Hybrid Premier9.54.0″9.0″
Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper9.55.0″9.0″

In most cases, more comfort material will provide better pressure relief since it separates the sleepers from the support layer. Heavier sleepers or those who sleep on their side generally appreciate these thicker comfort layers.

Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper edge support - side sleeping with vest
Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper edge support – side sleeping with vest

The Hybrid Premier Copper has a 5.0″ comfort layer, which is the thickest in this comparison.

The Nectar Hybrid original has a 3.0″ comfort layer, which is the thinnest, but still very comfortable. If you’re a lighter sleeper, you may be able to get by with less thickness here (and take advantage of the cost savings) without giving up much in terms of performance.

Off-Gassing Test

Off-gassing for the Nectar hybrids takes anywhere from 2-4 days.

Off-Gassing TestScoreInitial SmellOff-Gassing Period
Nectar Hybrid9.8Strong3 days
Nectar Hybrid Premier9.7Strong4 days
Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper9.8Moderate2 days

Out of the box, the Nectar Hybrid and the Hybrid Premier had the strongest smell. The Hybrid Original took 3 days and the Hybrid Premier took 4 days to fully off-gas.

Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper
Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper

In comparison, the Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper had only a moderate smell and took 2 days to off-gas.

If you’re especially sensitive to strong smells, the Premier Copper may be the better choice here.

Company

Overall, Nectar is an excellent company and has a handful of positive terms and policies.

They offer a 365-night trial period where you can test out the mattress.

If you decide at any point within that trial window that the Nectar isn’t right for you, you can return it for a full refund. If you decide to keep the mattress, it is backed by a lifetime warranty.

Firmness

The firmness level is pretty similar among all three Nectar hybrids—medium firm. The Hybrid Premier is just a touch softer than the Original and Premier Copper.

FirmnessRatingLabelRead Review
Nectar Hybrid6.5Medium-FirmRead Review
Nectar Hybrid Premier6.0Medium-FirmRead Review
Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper6.5Medium-FirmRead Review

Overall, this firmness would be considered suitable for a wide range of sleepers and sleeping positions.

Support & Sleeping Positions

For the most part, all of these Nectar hybrids offer excellent support regardless of sleeper weight and sleeping position.

what firmness is right for you?

For lighter weight sleepers, especially those who sleep on their side or stomach, you may want something a little softer than the hybrids reviewed here. A firmness of 6 to 6.5 may provide just a little too much pushback and could ultimately lead to pressure relief issues.

Likewise, heavier sleepers over 300 lbs. could also benefit from a firmer mattress. A medium-firm mattress may be sufficient, but the extra firmness helps prevent sleepers from sinking too deeply into the mattress.

With that said, for the vast majority of sleepers the firmness level on the Nectar Hybrids is a good middle-ground that’s appropriate to many body types and sleeping positions.

Design

All three of the Nectars reviewed here are hybrid mattresses, using a blend of foam and coils for comfort and support.

As the price tag goes up, so does the overall thickness and amount of comfort material.

Materials

Even though all three of these mattresses are hybrids, they are not identical. On the inside of each mattress, we can see two key differences between these Nectars.

The first difference is comfort material.

The next difference is the cover.

The Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper is the only mattress in this comparison with a copper-infused cover. Copper provides a handful of material benefits such as better cooling as well as an antimicrobial and antiviral finish.

Which Mattress Should You Buy?

As you can see in the tests and analysis above there are significant performance and material differences between each of these Nectar Hybrid models.

Should You Buy the Nectar Hybrid?

I would recommend the Nectar Hybrid if you’re looking for:

  • A good value. If you’re on a budget and want the best bang for your buck, go with the Original. This mattress had good performance and
  • Least amount of sinkage. If you don’t want to sink too deeply in a mattress, the Nectar Hybrid had the least amount of sinkage among all three tested in this review.
  • Classic memory foam. If you like the feel of classic memory foam the Nectar Hybrid has that. It offers more bounce than traditional memory foam, but does have very slow response time—a trademark of memory foam.

Should You Buy the Nectar Hybrid Premier?

I would recommend the Nectar Hybrid Premier if you’re looking for:

  • Deeper sinkage. The Hybrid Premier offers the deepest sinkage among all Nectar hybrids. If you want that deeper hug and contour, the Premier could be a good pick.
  • More bounce. This mattress also had higher levels of bounce. More bounce gives it a more traditional feel and makes it easier to move around on.
  • Very fast response time. Response time on the Premier tied with the Premier Copper, but both are significantly faster than the Original Hybrid.

Should You Buy the Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper?

I would recommend the Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper if you’re looking for:

  • Lowest motion transfer. If you’re easily disturbed during the night or sleep with an active partner, the Premier Copper offers the lowest levels of motion transfer among all Nectar hybrids.
  • Excellent cooling. The copper-infused cover, gel memory foam, and pocketed coils all help to enhance the cooling performance of this mattress.
  • More comfort material. The Premier Copper has 5.0″ of comfort material, which is fantastic for pressure relief, especially relevant to side sleepers or heavier sleepers.
