Performance Factors Gray

For our Best Mattress for Couoples list, we based our selections on the best-scoring mattresses, according to our battery of testing and formulaic driven scoring.

Our tests analyze performance across 8 critical factors, including cooling, motion transfer, response time, edge support, sex, pressure relief, off-gassing, and company. In addition, we also test sinkage and bounce (though these are not scoring factors).

Our tests include objective and quantifiable data whenever possible. In addition, we use subjective assessment supported by data to round out our testing process.

Our scores are based on mathematical formulas and equations that utilize inputs from our data-driven testing.

You can see our complete testing and scoring process here.

In choosing the best mattresses for couples we looked at the totality of all of our tests, scores, data, and reviews to date. We analyzed this data alongside our established best mattress framework here.

In addition, all mattresses on this list had to meet the following criteria:

  • Mattresses must have an overall performance score 9.75 or above
  • Mattresses must have a motion transfer score 9.5 or above
  • Mattresses must have a sex score 9.7 or above
  • Mattresses must be available for purchase within the USA

Outliers that met the criteria above, but were still excluded for other various reasons are listed below.

Our Verdict

The Winkbed Original is a 13.5″ thick hybrid that is made of pocketed coils and a layer of gel-infused foam, topped with a Euro top cover.

Designed to offer a well-balanced feel, this mattress features deep sinkage (8% deeper than the average) and moderate bounce (2% more than the average). Despite its pronounced sinkage, the Winkbed maintains great cooling, provides a balanced and even contouring hug, and exhibits a remarkably fast response time, creating an active feel.

The Winkbed Original has three distinct firmness options—softer (4), luxury firm (6), and firmer (7)—there is also the Winkbed Plus, tailored for heavier-weighted sleepers, characterized by a slightly firm feel (7 out of 10).

This mattress has a high overall performance score of 9.95, positioning it in the top 1% among all hybrid mattresses and earning a spot within the top 1% across all mattress types subjected to testing.

The price comes in at $1,499 for a queen, which is 15% higher than the average hybrid mattress. However, considering its performance advantages, the value it offers remains exceptional.

I highly recommend the Winkbed for individuals seeking the best all-around mattress. With its balanced and even feel, in terms of contour and hug, coupled with an outstanding performance across various tests, the WinkBed proves to be a top choice all-around.

Our Verdict

The Saatva Classic has a coil-on-coil design with a total thickness of either 11.5″ or 14.5″ thick (both thicknesses at the same price). It incorporates two layers of coils, topped by a modest amount of comfort foam, and all wrapped within a Euro-top cover.

Different from the standard hybrid mattress, Saatva offers a more traditional coil feel with less foam. This blend of materials gives the Saatva deep sinkage and high bounce, all while minimizing motion transfer—a challenge often faced by other coil mattresses.

The Saatva Classic is available in three firmness levels—Plush Soft (3.5), Luxury Firm (5.5), or Firm (8), on a scale of 1-10 where 10 is the most firm.

With an overall performance score of 9.95, the Saatva Classic secures a position in the top 1% among all coil mattresses as well as the top 1% across all mattress types tested to date.

A queen-sized Saatva Classic costs $1,696, a savings of 10% compared to the average coil mattress. Compared to the average hybrid mattress ($1,352), the Saatva is priced higher.

I recommend the Saatva Classic for sleepers seeking a traditional coil-based mattress experience, as well as those who don’t like the feel of foam.

Best Latex Hybrid To Date

The Saatva Latex Hybrid is the highest-performing latex hybrid we’ve tested to date and is a great alternative to the Saatva Classic if you’re looking for latex.

These two mattresses have distinctly different feels as the Saatva Classic is a coil-on-coil and the Saatva Latex Hybrid relies on a combination of natural latex foam and pocketed coils.

This mattress has minimal sinkage and high bounce, as well as extremely low motion transfer and excellent pressure relief.

For sleepers looking for a more restrained and generalized contour around the body, the Saatva Latex Hybrid could be a good option.

Our Verdict

The Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid is a 12″ thick mattress with a combination of memory foam and pocketed coils, wrapped within a thin, washable cover.

It has deep sinkage and extremely low levels of motion transfer while retaining excellent cooling and extremely fast response time. It is the definition of a modern memory foam, with all of the benefits of memory foam without the traditional setbacks (slow response and heat retention).

This mattress comes in a single firmness, a 5 out of 10, providing a medium feel. For sleepers looking for a softer feel, I’d recommend the Amerisleep AS5 Hybrid (3.5 out of 10).

With an overall performance score of 9.77, the AS3 Hybrid ranks in the top 1% among all memory foam hybrids and the top 6% among all mattress types tested.

The AS3 costs $1,499 for a queen, which is 3% higher than the average hybrid mattress ($1,443). But all things considered, the price difference is nominal.

I recommend the Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid for individuals who are looking for a memory foam feel but also desire enhanced cooling, increased bounce, improved sexual performance, and excellent edge support.

Extra Soft Feel (3.5 out of 10)

The Amerisleep AS5 Hybrid offers great performance that nearly matches that of the Amerisleep AS3.

Like the AS3, the AS5 uses a combination of memory foam and pocketed coils but also includes a 2.0″ transitional poly foam as well.

The AS5 is also softer than the AS3, with a firmness of only 3.5 out of 10.

This feel would be ideal for side sleepers, but it may not have adequate support for back or stomach sleepers.

Still, it’s a fantastic mattress if you’re looking for that softer feel.

Our Verdict

The Nest Bedding Sparrow is a 12″ hybrid that contains poly foam, support foam, and a pocketed coil support system. It has a zippered cover, which makes it easy to swap out the firmness of the top foam or replace as the foam ages.

It has very deep sinkage with high levels of bounce, and very low levels of motion transfer. The poly foam is engaging, but not so much that it negatively affects cooling performance or response.

It comes in three different firmness levels—plush, medium, or firm, making it suitable for a wider range of sleepers.

This mattress has a fantastic performance score of 9.76 overall, which ranks it in the top 7% among all hybrid mattresses we’ve tested to date.

The Sparrow costs $1,812 for a queen, which is 35% higher than the average price for a hybrid mattress. While this is definitely a higher-end model, it still provides great value, especially considering the Lifetime Renewal Exchange and lifetime warranty.

Our Verdict

The iSense Premier is a 13.5″ thick adjustable mattress that combines the advantages of adjustable air with the traditional construction of foam and coils.

The iSense delivers great pressure relief while maintaining support, even on the softer firmness settings. iSense uses a series of smaller individual air bladders placed vertically between foam layers, creating robust support.

Offering a firmness range from 4.5 to 7 out of 10, with 10 being the firmest, the iSense Premier provides a range of feels from soft to slightly firm.

With a performance score of 9.75, surpassing the average of 9.52 for all mattresses tested to date, the iSense proves itself as a top performer.

When we compare the cost of a queen mattress, iSense comes at a premium, priced $2,647 higher than the average hybrid mattress. However, compared to adjustable mattresses, the iSense Premier is in the same ballpark, priced at $3,999 for a Queen.

For individuals struggling to find comfort at a single firmness level or couples with different firmness preferences, the iSense Premier is a great option. The iSense is the best performing adjustable mattresses we’ve tested to date.
