Zenhaven Latex
Best For
- Fantastic cooling performance
- Low motion transfer level
- Near instant material responsiveness
Considerations
- Heavier weight sleepers sometimes find all foam latex not supportive enough (especially 250 lbs.+)
- Notably more expensive
Our Verdict
The Zenhaven mattress is a 10″ latex foam mattress with a flipppable design. The Gentle Firm side offers a slightly firm feel, measuring a firmness score of 7.5 out of 10 (where 10 represents the highest level of firmness). On the other side, the Luxury Plush side provides a medium feel with a firmness rating of 5 out of 10.
The overall performance of the Zenhaven mattress was exceptionally good. The latex used in the Zenhaven offers a remarkably airy experience, which facilitates significant air outflow from the mattress’s side panels each time you adjust your position. This feature enhances the cooling properties and breathability of the mattress, complementing its inherent resistance to heat retention.
Surprisingly, motion transfer was quite low, an uncommon characteristic for latex mattresses. Once again, it seems that Zenhaven’s specific latex composition enables improved motion transfer.
Across the board, performance was simply fantastic. Zenhaven’s 9.81 earned it one of the best scores we’ve seen to date. There is no question, this is an expensive mattress. However, the quality and performance was notably and significantly better than average. If you simply want the best of the best, this is it.
Type: Latex Foam
Firmness: Flippable; Slightly Firm (7.5) and Medium (5)
Zenhaven Performance
Cooling performance was arguably the most imperessive performance area for Zenhaven. Latex in general typically does well with respect to cooling, as the material doesn’t absorb and retain heat in the same way that a poly or memory foam is going to.
However, there appears to be something special about Zenhaven’s latex. It is unusually “airy” (for lack of a better word). This airiness creates a significant outflow of air from the mattress every time you move around or get in and out of bed.
This level of air in and out of the mattress means any heat building up in the core of the mattress is cycled with fresh, cooler air.
In all my years of testing, I don’t recall ever seeing a latex foam with this much airflow.
Beyond the impressive cooling performance, overall performance was exceptionally good across the board.
Motion transfer was exceedingly low, which is especially surprising given the all latex design. Response was instant, as expected.
Edge support, sex, pressure relief, and off-gassing all had strong performances as well.
From top to bottom, there is very little this mattress does wrong. It’s only big con is it’s an expensive mattress. But if you want the absolute best performance and quality, you’re going to have to spend a little more.

Saatva Latex Hybrid
Best For
- Extremely low levels of motion transfer, 3.13 m/s² max acceleration
- Exceptional edge support
- High levels of bounce, 10.82″ in our tests
Considerations
- Minimal sinkage may not provide adequate contour for all side sleepers (depending on personal preference)
- Priced 19% higher than the average latex hybrid
Our Verdict
The Saatva Latex Hybrid is a 12″ latex hybrid mattress with a medium-firm feel. It is priced just slightly above the average for all latex hybrids, but also had better performance than average.
In our performance tests, the Saatva has unprecedentedly low levels of motion transfer (the lowest among all latex hybrid mattresses we’ve tested), while retaining minimal sinkage and an extremely fast response time. Pressure relief was excellent as well with 3.0″ of comfort material and a zoned support system.
The Saatva is the highest-scoring latex hybrid that we’ve tested to date and is not that much more expensive than the average. This makes it an easy recommendation from us and a great choice for any sleeper who just wants the best latex hybrid.
Type: Latex Hybrid
Firmness: Medium-Firm (6.5)
Saatva Performance
Considering performance, the Saatva Latex Hybrid is solid across the board. It has a perfect score for low levels of motion transfer, extremely fast response time, and exceptional edge support.
The 3.0″ organic latex plus quilted cover work together to really give the Saatva a performance advantage over other latex hybrids. Within the comfort layer, the latex layer is hole-punched, giving the mattress improved breathability as well.

Birch Hybrid
Best For
- Slightly firm feel (7 out of 10)
- Extremely fast response time
- Low levels of motion transfer, 5.52 m/s²
Considerations
- Higher bounce
- May be too firm for lightweight side sleepers
- 4.5″ of sinkage when seating directly at the edge
Our Verdict
The Birch mattress is a hybrid mattress that is a blend of pocketed coils and Talalay latex. It has a slightly firm feel with moderate sinkage and a fast response time.
This mattress provides a luxury feel with the quilted cover and 2″ organic latex comfort layer. If you don’t need the maximum pressure relief you get with the Saatva Latex Hybrid, the Birch is our next top pick.
Type: Latex Hybrid
Firmness: Slightly Firm (7)
Birch Performance
Performance on the Birch is fantastic, with perfect 10s for excellent cooling performance, extremely fast response time, and a score of 9.9 for low levels of motion transfer.
Compared to the Saatva Latex Hybrid, the Birch has deeper sinkage and higher levels of bounce. This bounce can be great for sex performance, but not always ideal for all sleeper preferences.
The only real struggle for the Birch is edge support, where our tests measured 4.5″ of sinkage when seated directly at the edge. This is only 0.25″ deeper than the average edge support, but still beyond the numbers that I like to see.

For Pressure Relief
Birch Luxe
1.5″ Quilted Cover
The Birch Luxe shares many similarities with the original Birch, but has the added advantage of a 1.5″ quilted organic cotton cover. This cover would likely be better suited for side sleepers or those looking for a softer feel (medium -firm; 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale).
Awara Hybrid
Best For
- Excellent cooling. Max temp. of only 90.1° F with impressive heat dissipation.
- Low motion transfer, 3.72 m/s² accelerometer range (7.99 m/s² is average)
- Super fast response time
Considerations
- Very high bounce, more bounce than 98% of the mattresses we’ve tested
- Slightly deeper sinkage (about 0.5” more than average)
- Likely not supportive enough for sleepers over 300 lbs.
Our Verdict
The Awara natural luxury hybrid, aka: the original Awara mattress, is a hybrid mattress that uses natural Dunlop latex foam and pocketed coils for comfort and support.
In our performance tests, the Awara showcased excellent cooling, moderate to deep sinkage, low motion transfer, very fast response time, high bounce height, good edge support, and excellent pressure relief (despite only having 2.0″ of latex foam).
For an organic latex mattress on a budget, the Awara is a great option.
Type: Latex Hybrid
Firmness: Medium-Firm (6)
Awara Performance
Performance on the Awara Original is fantastic, especially considering its budget-friendly price tag. It scored perfect 10s for low levels of motion transfer, extremely fast response time, and its extended 365-night trial period (with a lifetime warranty).
Factor | Awara Performance |
---|---|
Overall | 9.70 |
Price | $1,099 |
Cooling | 9.5 |
Max Sinkage | 2.63″ |

Comfort Material | 2.0″ |
Off-Gassing – Smell | Moderate |
Off-Gassing – Days | 3 days |

The Awara does not have a quilted cover, like the Saatva Latex Hybrid or Birch, which is likely a factor in the higher levels of bounce.
We’ve tested over 150 mattresses to date and the Awara Hybrid has the 3rd highest level of bounce among anything we’ve tested (only out-bounced by the Purple Hybrid and Helix Moonlight which both had over 17″ of bounce).
EcoSleep Luxe
Best For
- 2-in-1 firmness with flippable top latex foam
- Budget-conscious sleepers
- Fast response, low motion transfer, and good edge support
Considerations
- Latex foam lacks the deep contour that you’d get with memory foam
- May not be suitable for sleepers who prefer a softer feel
Our Verdict
The EcoSleep Luxe (by Brooklyn Bedding) is a 12″H luxury hybrid with a flippable design. Instead of flipping the whole mattress though, it’s just the top layer of foam that flips.
Simply unzip the cover, flip the foam, and rezip. One side features a medium feel (5.5 out of 10) while the other side is firm (8 out of 10).
Performance on the EcoSleep Luxe is well rounded and shows no real weaknesses. But performance aside, what’s most compelling about the EcoLuxe is the price point. This is amazingly budget-friendly, while still being an incredibly strong performer.
Type: Latex Hybrid
Firmness: Flippable – Medium (5.5) or Firm (8)
EcoSleep Performance
Performance on the EcoSleep Luxe is very good, scoring a perfect 10 for extremely fast response time. Low levels of motion transfer and high bounce for sex also had scores of 9.8.
Like the high-performing Saatva Latex Hybrid, the EcoSleep Hybrid also has a 3.0″ layer of organic latex for the comfort layer.
It has deeper sinkage than many of the organic options listed in this guide (2.30″), but still provides good edge support and good cooling. The latex is hole-punched, limiting heat retention and improving response time.

Spindle Mattress
COUPON: Use promo code NapLab to save $100 off any Spindle mattress order.
Best For
- Adjustable firmness (soft, medium or firm)
- Extremely fast response time
- Extremely low motion transfer
- Higher levels of bounce (great for sex performance)
Considerations
- Off-gassing takes over a week to fully dissipate
- May not have the right hug and contour if you like deeper hug and contour (like memory foam)
Our Verdict
The Spindle mattress is an organic natural latex mattress that has three interchange layers of latex foam. It has a zippered cover that allows you to access the foam layers and adjust them in a number of different configurations.
In our performance tests, the Spindle mattress had excellent cooling, moderate sinkage, extremely low motion transfer, extremely fast response time, high bounce, excellent edge support, excellent sex performance, excellent pressure relief, very good off-gassing, and exceptional company policies.
Overall performance on Spindle is fantastic and it’s the 2nd best all foam latex mattress we’ve tested to date.
Type: Latex Foam
Firmness: Interchangeable (Soft, Medium, or Firm)
Spindle Performance
The Spindle is another high-performing option with perfect performance in three categories: motion transfer, response, and company (365-night trial with a 10-year warranty).
The motion transfer has a max acceleration range of 4.01 m/s², nearly 50% better than the average of 7.99 m/s².
The adjustable layers provide great pressure relief and allow you the flexibility to try different configurations without the hassle of exchanges or returns.
Because of the customization, I found pressure relief to be fantastic during our tests as well as good edge support when seated or lying directly on the edge of the mattress.

Avocado Eco
Best For
- High levels of bounce
- Extremely low motion transfer; 3.40 m/s^² (68% lower than average)
- Very fast response time
Considerations
- May not be suitable for sleepers over 250 lbs
- Less-than-ideal edge support
- Only 100-night trial
Our Verdict
The Avocado Eco mattress is a 10″ thick organic latex hybrid with great performance and a lower price tag than many other organic mattresses in this guide.
It has excellent cooling and deep sinkage, combined with the active / engaging feel of extremely fast response time and very high bounce.
While this mattress may not be suitable for larger sleepers, if you’re 250 lbs. or less, it’s a good pick for both lighter and moderate-weight sleepers who want an organic mattress with a medium feel.
Type: Latex Hybrid
Firmness: Medium (5.5)
Avocado Performance
The performance on the Avocado Eco mattress is solid across the board, scoring perfect 10s for extremely low levels of motion transfer and a fast material response time.
The Eco has a 2.0″ latex layer of comfort material which provides great pressure relief for lightweight or moderate-weighted sleepers.
Edge support while sitting was a little weaker than many of the other best organic mattresses in our list, but only slightly. Given the price point and extensive list of material certifications, the Eco remains a compelling choice.

For Edge Support
Avocado Green
3.25″ Seated Edge Sinkage
The Avocado Green mattress has similar materials to the Avocado Eco, but a firmer feel (6.5) and slightly lower performance overall. One benefit it does have is better edge support—exceptional support while lying and only 3.25″ of sinkage when seated at the edge (1.0″ less than what we saw on the Avocado Eco.)
Nolah Natural
Best For
- Exceptionally good cooling
- Near instantaneous material response
- High bounce and good edges create great sex performance
Considerations
- Sitting edge support is good, but not great
- Medium feel may not be appropriate for heavyweight sleepers (especially stomach and back sleepers)
Our Verdict
The Nolah Natural is an 11″ latex hybrid that uses hole-punched Talalay latex with pocketed coils to provide comfort, support, and exceptionally good cooling.
The Nolah Natural has a plush feel and medium firmness (5 out of 10) with a more generalized contour around the body.
This is in contrast to the more dramatic hug that memory foam creates. It’s a more traditional feel that emphasizes pressure relief, cooling, and softness.
Type: Latex Hybrid
Firmness: Medium (5)
Nolah Performance
Performance on the Nolah Natural is fantastic, as would be expected considering its higher price tag. Cooling, response, and off-gassing all scored perfect 10s in our performance tests.
Motion transfer levels were lower than average (6.04 m/s², average is 7.99 m/s²) and the mattress has a deep level of sinkage (2.55″).
This mattress has 3.0″ of latex foam above a pocketed coil base. It has high levels of bounce but retains good pressure relief for light to moderate-weighted sleepers.

Mattresses We Considered
When selecting the best organic mattress, we’re looking at a combination of performance factors, material quality, firmness, and price.
With these criteria in mind, we scoured our performance data from the 23+ organic mattresses we’ve personally tested to make the selections.
Below we discuss the mattresses that just barely missed the cut and / or were excluded based on the inclusion requirements set out in our best mattress selection framework here.
For Pressure Relief
Awara Premier
9.58 Overall Score
The Awara Premier doesn’t quite make the cut, when comparing it side by side to the Awara Original. It has a higher price and lower performance score. But when we look at the performance in detail, it’s really only the worse edge support that drags it down (5.5” of sinkage when seated). But that factor aside, the Premier is still a great organic latex hybrid and has the benefit of a 4.0” comfort layer. This is thicker than every other latex mattress featured in this guide.
For 7-13″ Height
Sleep EZ
9.52 Overall Score
The Sleep EZ organic latex mattress is an adjustable firmness mattress, similar to the Spindle, but with lower performance and a higher price tag. It excels in most categories with the one exception being motion transfer where it measured 13.34 m/s² of motion, nearly double the average. One advantage the Sleep EZ has is different heights. The mattress is available in 7”, 9”, 10”, or 13” configurations.
For Cool Cover
Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus
9.51 Overall Score
The Sheets & Giggles Eucalyptus mattress has good performance in most categories, only really struggling with higher levels of motion transfer (12.08 m/s², 51% above average levels). It has a cool-to-the-touch cover, which is good for sleepers concerned with heat retention. Aside from that though, there is not much that stands out on this mattress or our-performs other recommendations.
For 20-Yr Warranty
Amerisleep Organica
9.47 Overall Score
The Amerisleep Organica is another medium-firm latex hybrid with good performance across the board, but struggling with motion transfer. On the Organica, we measured 13.32” m/s² in our motion transfer test, 68% above average. This factor alone is enough to drag the score down beyond the point of being able to recommend the Organica above others. That being said, it has 3.0” of comfort material and a 0.5” quilted cover—still a quality build for an organic mattress.
For Contour
Nest Bedding Finch
9.47 Overall Score
The Nest Bedding Finch is a 10.5” latex hybrid with a 3.0” latex layer and 1.5” quilted cover. It is available in two firmness levels—medium (6) or firm (8). Performance-wise, the Finch is an all-around performer, only struggling with motion transfer, as is the theme among most of these excluded mattresses.
For Extra Firm Feel
Plank Natural
9.47 Overall Score
The Plank Natural is a flippable hybrid primarily for back or stomach sleepers. It has a firm side (8 out of 10) and an extra firm side (9 out of 10). Due to its extreme firmness, it has been excluded from the list simply because of the narrow window of sleepers who are looking for a mattress this firm. It also had very high levels of motion transfer, which hurt the score significantly. But for an extra firm organic mattress, this is the top recommendation.
For Edge Support
Happsy
9.38 Overall Score
The Happsy mattress is a latex hybrid with a medium-firm feel (6), a 10” profile, and excellent edge support. It uses organic materials and the performance is mostly good, with the one exception of motion transfer. In our tests, the Happsy generated 15.91 m/s² of motion, more motion than 96% of other mattresses we’ve tested. For the same price, there are many other organic latex mattresses that I would recommend above Happsy.
