Best For
- Organic, euro-cotton cover, provides excellent contour and pressure relief
- Extremely fast response time
- Very low levels of motion transfer, great for sensitive sleepers
Considerations
- Low levels of bounce, not great for sex
- 6.25″ of sinkage provides less edge support than I’d like to see
- Some sleepers find memory foam sleepers warm
Our Verdict
The Loom & Leaf is a memory foam mattress with high contour and excellent pressure relief. The 12″ mattress includes an organic cotton cover and cooling gel foam.
Our performance tests revealed low bounce and motion transfer. Loom and Leaf has an extremely deep level of sinkage, fast material response, and excellent support and cooling. The materials, foam densities, thickness, and overall performance are excellent, making the Loom & Leaf a fantastic value for the money.
Lastly, just about the highest endorsement I can ever give to a product is that Loom and Leaf is the mattress my wife and I sleep on each night. I’ve slept on it nightly since 2017. Memory foam isn’t for everyone, but if it works well for your needs / desires then Loom & Leaf is an amazingly good choice.

How is Loom & Leaf Different?
Compared to the average mattress, Loom & Leaf performs slightly above the average, although it is quite a bit costlier than the average memory foam mattress.
Advantages
The Loom & Leaf scored better than average for cooling, lower levels of motion transfer, and exceptional pressure relief. If you’re looking for that true luxury memory foam feel, the Loom & Leaf hits the nail on the head.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has extremely deep sinkage, 43% more sinkage than average, and a more dramatic hug and contour (typical of classic memory foam). Bounce levels are also very low, only 48% of the average bounce level. Again, this is more typical of classic memory foam, but for isolated movement, it could be a big advantage.
Disadvantages
The biggest disadvantages for the Loom & Leaf include a slower material response time and poorer sitting edge support (although lying edge support performed higher than average).
Cooling Test
Cooling performance of the Loom & Leaf was excellent. Although memory foam oftentimes has the tendency to feel warm to some sleepers, that’s not the case with this mattress.
Baseline Temp.
79.1° F
Max. Temp.
87.6° F
Ending Temp.
80.8° F
Loom & Leaf has a memory foam comfort layer, extremely deep sinkage, and the extra contour that comes with a Euro-style cover. But despite these factors which would usually hinder good cooling performance, the Loom & Leaf was still extremely comfortable.
Max. Temp.
Ending Temp.
- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
The Loom & Leaf started with a temperature of 79.1° F. After lying on the mattress for 15 minutes the Loom & Leaf peaked at a temperature of 87.6° F. After 5 minutes with no one lying on the mattress it reduced the temperature back to 80.8° F.
Heat Dissipation Over Time
As with any memory foam mattress, the Loom & Leaf is more susceptible to heating issues relative to hybrid, latex, and coil-based mattresses.
Overall, this mattress does a nice job as the Euro-style cover and gel foam top layer puts a certain level of material between the sleeper and the foams that are more likely to heat up (namely the memory foam core).
I would say Loom and Leaf is above average with respect to cooling for memory foam mattresses.
In my experience over the years, I’ve never felt that Loom and Leaf was a hot mattress.
Heavier sleepers may find it warmer as they sink deeper and are more enveloped by the contouring firms.
Sinkage Test
The Loom & Leaf mattress has an extremely deep level of sinkage. Our pressure point sinkage test revealed a maximum sinkage depth of 3.09″.
The softer euro-style pillowtop and layers of memory / poly foam create deeper sinkage. This deeper sinkage with softer materials is also what allows the Loom and Leaf to create such profound pressure relief.
The Loom and Leaf contours around the body, relieving pressure as it hugs your unique shape.
Motion Transfer Test
The level of motion transfer is documented in the video below.
The Loom & Leaf has extremely low levels of motion transfer.
Our accelerometer test shows a similar level of motion transfer. This measurement reveals the intensity and motion waves as they travel across the mattress.
Max. Acceleration
3.19 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-1.83 m/s²
Accel. Range
5.02 m/s²
There is a rapid increase on the initial sink and bounce of the medicine ball, but it only takes a couple of subsequent rebounds to settle back into a minimal level of motion.
One of the big advantages to memory foam is energy and motion are both absorbed by the foams. This means you won’t often disturb your partner while sleeping.
Response Test
The Loom & Leaf has a very fast response time. Within 0.6 seconds the Loom & Leaf materials are mostly recovered back to their original shape. Some of the slower foams take a bit more time, so the full recovery time is 1.5 seconds.
Mostly Recovered
0.6 sec.
Complete Recovery
1.6 sec.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
Most of the materials bounce back quickly to their original form, but some of the more contouring foams take a little longer to fully rebound.
The heavier the weight on the mattress the longer it will take to fully rebound.
Compared to more traditional memory foam mattresses, I found the Loom and Leaf to be better. However, compared to latex and coil-based mattresses, in addition to many poly foams, the response is still going to be slower.
Bounce Test
In the case of Loom & Leaf, this mattress has very low levels of bounce. In our performance tests, the ball sank to a maximum depth of 5.89″ before rebounding upwards.
Max. Depth
5.89″
Max. Rebound
-1.17″
Total Bounce
4.72″
Max Sinkage Depth
Max Bounce Height
While the mattress does provide a fast rebounding response, it was not enough to send the ball above the level height of the mattress.
The ball was 1.17″ below the level height of the mattress even after bouncing from a depth of 5.89″.
The level of bounce is documented in the video below.
Edge Support Test
Our sitting edge support test had fair performance with a revealed maximum compression depth of 6.25″. Despite the less-than-idea sitting edge support, lying edge support was excellent.
Max. Sinkage
6.25″
Lying Support
Excellent
The quality of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.
Sitting, 200 lbs.
As you can see from the photos, there is a reasonable level of edge support when sitting close to the edge of the mattress, but directly on the edge is not great. Given the level of firmness and the primarily memory foam design, the edges are fair, but not amazing.
Even so, I have never felt that I was going to be rolled out of the bed, as you can feel with some mattresses that have poor edge support.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.
Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.
While lying on the Loom & Leaf mattress I felt well-supported in all positions. The mattress has more than sufficient thickness to provide ample support, both in terms of comfort foam / materials and support foam.
Sex Test
The best mattresses for sex have high bounce, good edge support, quiet materials, and good pressure relief and cooling.
These 5 factors make up the NapLab sex performance score.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 5.4 | Very Low |
Edge Support | 20% | 5.9 | Poor |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |
Cooling | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
For the Loom & Leaf, these individual factors generated a sex score of 8.9.
When it comes to sex performance on the Loom & Leaf, it’s going to be slightly less desirable, but not because it’s a poor-quality mattress.
The best sex typically comes from a mattress with good bounce, excellent cooling, minimal noise, balanced sinkage, and good edge support.
Loom & Leaf is a memory foam mattress, that inherently means less bounce than coils. Memory foam would also generally be warmer, but the gel top layer of the Loom & Leaf really helps to keep things cool.
While it lacks the benefits of coils, like more bounce and better cooling, it has the benefit of virtually no noise.
Pressure Relief Test
The material components, quality, and mattress comfort layer thickness are all critical factors to pressure relief. The basic material construction and design impact how a mattress relieves pressure, with your body weight, body type, and sleeping position all further changing that impact.
Comfort Layer
4.5″
Support Layer
7.5″
The Loom & Leaf has a 4.5” comfort layer and a 7.5″ support layer. Based on our testing experience, this is a more than thick enough comfort layer for great pressure relief.
This comfort layer is a bit thicker than most all-foam mattresses, which will result in better comfort and pressure relief for most sleepers and body types.
However, this is especially true for heavier-weight sleepers, who all but require a larger comfort layer thickness to maintain full pressure relief.
Off-Gassing Test
Off-gassing performance of the Loom & Leaf is exceptional. To evaluate off-gassing we monitor the mattress following the initial unboxing, taking a subjective measurement of any strong lingering smells. Strong odors coming off the mattress can be discomforting while both sleeping and awake.
Initial Smell Strength
None
Off-Gassing Period
0 days
Unlike many online mattress companies, Loom and Leaf ships uncompressed with full-service delivery and setup. As a result, any off-gassing that may have occurred post-manufacturing is complete by the time the mattress arrives at your door.
During our setup of the Loom & Leaf, we noted zero initial smell and zero off-gassing period.
Company
The company score takes a look at factors that may influence your experience with the mattress. Factors include length of the trial period, warranty, shipping / return costs, and country of origin.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|
Trial Period | 15% | 10 | 365 nights |
Warranty | 10% | 10 | 25 years |
Shipping | 5% | 10 | $0 |
Returns | 20% | 7.0 | $99 |
Trust | 50% | 10 | Outstanding |
Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
For Loom & Leaf, these individual terms and conditions generated a company score of 9.8.
Loom & Leaf is manufactured by the parent company, Saatva, which has been in the mattress business since 2010. As a whole, Saatva has generally favorable company policies.
Their trial period is a little longer than we’ve seen from other companies—a full 365-night time frame to decide if Loom & Leaf is a good fit for you. They also have a 15-year warranty with fair and reasonable terms.
Shipping is free, but if you decide to return it, you will have to pay a $99 handling fee to have the mattress picked up.
All things considered, I was pleased with Saatva and the customer experience with the Loom & Leaf mattress.
How firm is Loom & Leaf?
The Loom & Leaf comes in two different firmness levels—5.5 or 8.
The Loom & Leaf ‘Relaxed Firm’ is a 5.5 on the firmness scale—a bit softer than many of the other universal comfort style mattresses, which fall in at around a 6 out of 10.
They also offer the Loom & Leaf Firm, which is an 8 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
NOTE: In this review, we tested the Relaxed Firm version.
Support & Sleeping Positions
Many sleepers may prefer one mattress over another based entirely on their ideal sleeping position since the position you sleep in changes how / if the mattress will support you.
In general, since they have 2 firmness options it’s a good choice for most sleeping styles.
Saatva has tested the Loom & Leaf and it has been approved for sleepers up to 300 lbs. per side.
On the heavier side? Check out the Saatva HD, which can support between 300-500 lbs., per side.
Who is the Relaxed Firm Loom & Leaf good for?
The Loom and Leaf Relaxed Firm is good for all sleeping styles.
Since it’s 12″ thick and uses high-quality materials it has more than enough support for most sleepers.
Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleepers | Side Sleepers | Back Sleepers |
---|---|---|---|
Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
150-250 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
250-300 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Who is the Firm Loom & Leaf good for?
The Loom and Leaf Firm is better suited for back sleepers (especially if you are of a larger stature) or those who prefer less sinkage and a firmer feel.
Notably, it is not well suited to petite and moderate body type side sleepers (nor is any firm mattress in the vast majority of cases).

Design
The Loom and Leaf mattress is a foam mattress with no springs or coils. It uses memory foam and a gel layer that provides a reasonable level of cooling with the contouring hug of memory foam.
Type
Memory Foam
Thickness
12″
Firmness
5.5 & 8
5.5 out of 10 describes the firmness of the Relaxed Firm mattress, which is the one we tested for the purpose of this review. The Loom & Leaf Firm mattress is 8 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
Regardless of which firmness you opt for, it is 12″ thick and also has an organic, quilted Euro-style pillowtop cotton cover. The look of the Loom & Leaf feels classic and has a timeless aesthetic.
Materials
The Loom and Leaf mattress is a memory foam mattress with special attention given to making sure this mattress sleeps cool, without sacrificing contour and hug.
At the top of the mattress, there is an organic cotton cover. Below the cover, there are four layers which include:
- 2.0″ gel foam
- 2.5″ memory foam
- 2.0″ support foam (transitional)
- 5.5″ support foam
The Cover
The top of the Loom & Leaf is a quilted cover that is soft, breathable, and hypoallergenic. It uses a blend of white and tan accents with a soft texture that feels well-designed throughout.
The cover is a Euro-style pillow top, meaning it has pressure-relieving comfort materials upholstered within the cover itself. This gives it a sleeker look (relative to traditional pillow tops) and improves long-term durability.
Unique stitching patterns continue along the side of the mattress with a classic wave design. The tan accents also wrap the sides to form functional handles for better grip when you have to move it.
The Comfort Layer
Right beneath the cover is a layer of gel foam. This layer is designed to keep you cool as well as provide spinal support and bounce.
It’s about 2″ thick—thick enough to provide a noticeable change in feel and temperature, but not so thick that it offsets the benefits of the memory foam below.
The third layer is the comfort foam, which sits right below the gel. Loom & Leaf opts for a 5 lbs., high-density memory foam that can provide pressure relief and comfort.
The use of memory foam also means it has more of that “sinking” feeling, which helps to hug and contour to your body as you sleep.
In addition, this layer is going to have a slower response time than the gel above. A slower response time means that it will conform around your body more, providing pressure relief where you need it.
The Support Layer
The bottom layer is a blend of high-density transitional foam and high-density support foam. Both foams are important to provide support and stability.
This base is pretty thick making the whole mattress feel robust and high quality.
Product Evolution
The Loom & Leaf mattress offers a classic memory foam feel and has undergone minimal changes between older versions of the mattress and the one manufactured today.
Besides minimal changes to the design of the cover, the overall thickness and material composition is largely identical to the first Loom & Leaf mattresses sold in 2015.

For Edge Support
GhostBed Luxe
9.19 Overall Score
The GhostBed Luxe is a nice option if you’re looking for a memory mattress with better overall performance than the Loom & Leaf as well as a lower price point (about $400 less for a queen). The GhostBed also has better edge support—3.75″ of max sinkage compared to 6.25″ of sinkage on the Loom & Leaf.
For A Hybrid
Nest Bedding Sparrow
9.20 Overall Score
The Nest Bedding Sparrow has a similar quality to the Loom & Leaf with a plush, Euro cover. This particular mattress is a hybrid blend, so it uses pocketed coils for support instead of foam. The Sparrow is available in 3 firmness levels (3.5, 5, or 8).
