  • Good cooling performance

Considerations

  • Higher levels of motion transfer than average, 31% more than the average mattress we’ve tested to date

Our Verdict

The Lull Luxe is a 12.5″ thick hybrid mattress made of gel memory foam, poly foam, and support coils, all wrapped within a 1.0″ thick quilted cover.

It has moderate sinkage and very high bounce, so you’ll definitely want to make sure you like a bouncy mattress before opting for this mattress. The body contouring is balanced and with moderate hug.

This mattress is available in a single firmness (6.5) with a medium-firm feel.

In our performance tests, the Lull Luxe has an overall score of 9.54, which is slightly above the average (9.49) across all mattresses tested to date.

The price is also slightly more than the average, but given the higher performance, the increase in price seems reasonable.

How is Lull Luxe Hybrid Different?

The Lull Luxe Hybrid mattress has an overall performance that is above average and a price that is also above average—9.7% more than the average hybrid.

Advantages

Despite the slightly higher price, the Lull Luxe has many advantages going for it including better cooling performance, a fast material response time, good sex performance, and a long 365-night trial period.

Neutral Factors

This mattress has sinkage levels that are just slightly deeper than average and 45% more bounce than average as well. Both sinkage and bounce are preferential factors (within a reasonable range), but you will want to make sure you like high bounce.

Disadvantages

Motion transfer is 31% higher on the Lull Luxe than average and is really the only major disadvantage of this mattress.

Cooling Test

The Lull Luxe Hybrid has excellent cooling performance. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of heat retention around my body.

Max Temp.

92.7° F

Ending Temp.

82.3° F

  • Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
  • Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
  • Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

The hybrid design provides ample airflow to the mattress, while the gel-infused memory foam helps to further disperse heat. The foams look and feel high quality and we have a fairly limited amount of memory foam at just 2.0”, which is the material that heat is most likely to be retained within.

In our objective cooling tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 92.7°F.

After getting off the mattress the temperature declined by 6.8° from minutes 0 to 1, which is 2.20° cooler than average.

Heat Dissipation Over Time

From minutes 0 to 5 the decline was 10.4°, which is 3.22° cooler than average. I expect most sleepers will find this level of cooling performance to be satisfactory.

Sinkage Test

The Lull Luxe Hybrid has a moderate level of sinkage. In our pressure point sinkage tests, we measured a sinkage depth of 2.24”. This is 0.08” less sinkage than the average of 2.16”.

The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The Lull creates a balanced and even level of body contouring hug. Despite the fact it uses 3.0” of memory foam, it doesn’t have a dramatic memory foam feel.

The feel is more akin to other modern hybrids on the market, which isn’t a bad thing.

This creates a more balanced, even, and less polarizing feel that many sleepers will enjoy. That said, there is some hug, but it’s quite balanced and not overly enveloping.

8.4

Motion Transfer Test

The Lull Luxe Hybrid has a high level of motion transfer. In our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 11.27 m/s². This is 31.4% more motion transfer than the average of 8.58 m/s².

Max. Acceleration

Much of the motion is being created by the higher level of bounce. The Luxe Hybrid has a significantly higher bounce than average, which is great for sex and ease of movement.

However, it’s also driving the higher motion, as the extra bounce means extra energy that’s transferring across the mattress.

The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.

In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.14 seconds.

There is a secondary spike from 0.49 to 0.64 seconds and by 1.13 seconds we return to near zero levels of energy.

Lull Luxe Hybrid Motion Transfer Chart
Lull Luxe Hybrid Motion Transfer Chart

Neither the initial spike, secondary spike, or total motion duration paints a pretty picture here. Overall, the data shows us a mattress with a high level of motion transfer.

10

Response Test

The Lull Luxe Hybrid has an extremely fast material response time. In our test, we measured a mostly recovered response time of 0.3 seconds and a fully recovered response time of 0.7 seconds.

Mostly Recovered

0.3 sec.

Complete Recovery

0.7 sec.

Both of these are notably faster than the averages 0.41 seconds to mostly recover and 0.87 seconds to fully recover. All of the foams within the Lull Luxe are highly responsive and spring back to shape quickly.

The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.

The coil unit, as expected, also recovered back to shape effectively instantly. The fast response helps make it easier to move around on the mattress and ensures sleepers won’t ever feel stuck. I expect most sleepers will be perfectly happy with this level of responsiveness.

Bounce Test

The Lull Luxe Hybrid has a very high level of bounce. In our tests, we measured a total bounce range of 13.94”. This is 4.32” more bounce than the average of 9.62”.

Max. Depth

8.47″

Max. Rebound

5.47″

Total Bounce

13.94″

Both the coil unit and the foams used by Lull have a level of spring, resilience, and response that is quite unusual. So much so that the Luxe Hybrid is in the top 9.0% of all mattresses tested to date for the highest bounce.

Max. Sinkage Depth

Lull Luxe Hybrid Bounce Depth

Max Bounce Height

Lull Luxe Hybrid Bounce Rebound

This level of bounce is definitely negatively impacting motion transfer. However, a very high bounce like this also greatly benefits sex performance and ease of movement.

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.

In addition, it can help give the mattress a more traditional coil-type feel. Some will absolutely find this level of bounce is simply too much. However, those who enjoy more bounce, prefer better sex performance, and like a more traditional coil-type feel will likely love it.

9.5

Edge Support Test

The Lull Luxe Hybrid has excellent edge support for both sitting and lying. In our sitting edge support tests, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 4.0”. This is 0.09” less sitting sinkage than the average of 4.09”.

Max Sinkage

4.00″

Lying Support

Excellent

Even when sitting directly on the edge of the mattress I found it supportive and there is no sensation of material collapse. Lying edge support is equally as impressive.

During our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions, even when lying directly on the edge of the mattress.

The edge support perimeter foam is making a notable impact on performance, as are the quality materials elsewhere in the mattress. Overall, I found edge support to be excellent and I expect most sleepers will find it is more than satisfactory.

The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.

Sex Test

The Lull Luxe Hybrid has excellent sex performance. While the very high level of bounce could create a polarizing feel for some sleepers, when it comes to sex performance it is an absolute boon.

The very high bounce ensures the mattress naturally works sex participants and greatly enhances the dance without pants.

Edge support, pressure relief, and cooling are also excellent, rounding out solid sex performance from top to bottom.

How Do We Determine Sex Score?

The best mattresses for sex have high bounce, good edge support, quiet materials, and good pressure relief and cooling.

Pressure Relief Test

The Lull Luxe Hybrid has excellent pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant level of pressure point build-up anywhere on my body.

The mattress is equipped with 4.0” of comfort material, which is just slightly less than the 4.2” average comfort layer thickness based on all of our tests to date.

Despite this fact, the foams all look and feel high quality and during our tests I found they did a great job at creating ample comfort in all sleeping positions. Overall, great pressure relief on the Lull Luxe.

Off-gassing on the Lull Luxe Hybrid is strong right out of the box and the odor lasted for 5 days before fully dissipating.

The Lull Luxe Hybrid has excellent support. During our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions.

The mattress is equipped with 8.5” of support materials, including a 7.5” pocketed coil unit and 1.0” of support foam. This is 0.7” more support materials than the average 7.8” support layer, based on all of our tests to date.

As with pressure relief, the support materials look and feel high quality. The medium-firm feel creates the right balance of pushback vs. comfort such that most sleepers will find the mattress creates ample support.
