  • Fast material response time

Considerations

  • Higher levels of motion transfer, 11% higher than average
  • Shorter than average trial period

Our Verdict

The Leesa Oasis Chill mattress is a 13.5″ high-profile hybrid mattress designed for fantastic cooling, but with well-rounded performance across the board.

It’s priced just slightly above the average for hybrids and given its above-average performance, it feels like a solid value. This mattress comes in two different firmness levels—Plush (4 out of 10) or Cushion-Firm (6 out of 10) making it a good option for a wide range of sleeper preferences.

The only potential downside is the higher level of motion transfer where we measured 11% more motion than average. If you’re sensitive to movement while sleeping this may be an important factor for you.

Advantages

Advantages of the Oasis Chill include higher cooling performance, faster material response time, better edge support, a thicker mattress profile (13.5″ compared to 11.9″ average), and a thicker comfort layer (4.8″ compared to the 4.2″ average).

Neutral Factors

The mattress has just slightly deeper sinkage than average (0.02″), although quite negligible. Bounce levels are 6% lower than average as well. Both sinkage and bounce are at reasonable levels and are more preferential factors than anything else.

Disadvantages

Disadvantages of the Leesa Oasis Chill include 11% higher levels of motion transfer than the average mattress as well as a shorter mattress trial period (by 64 nights, compared to the 164 night average).

Cooling Test

The Leesa Oasis Chill has exceptionally good cooling. In our tests, it not only did not retain significant heat but had a notable cooling feel to the cover. The mattress uses a layer of pocketed coils that bring ample airflow into the mattress.

  • Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
  • Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

In addition, we have a copper-infused memory foam that further helps to manage heat retention. However, arguably the most significant factor in cooling performance is the cooling cover. According to Leesa, the cover is “Infused with cooling fibers to help maintain the ideal skin temperature of 88°.”

In our tests, it didn’t quite hit that 88° mark, but it did make a notable impact. In our objective testing, we measured a max surface level temperature of 91.4° F.

After getting off the mattress the temperature dropped by 5.3° from minutes 0 to 1 (which is 0.78° cooler than average) and 8.0° from minutes 0 to 5 (which is 1.08° cooler than average).

Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we look at the complete picture of objective data, subjective experience, and material analysis I am confident that most sleepers will find the Leesa Oasis Chill to be a sufficiently cool mattress.

Sinkage Test

The Leesa Oasis Chill has a moderate level of sinkage. In our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.19”. This is 0.01” more sinkage than the average of 2.18”, based on all of our tests to date.

Sinkage Feel

The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The mattress creates a balanced level of body contouring hug. The memory foam creates a little more of a hugging sensation, but it’s restrained by the 1.75” quilted cover and 1.5” poly foam layer in the core of the mattress.

During our testing, I felt an even, moderate, and balanced hug around the body. It’s neither too much nor too little.

8.9

Motion Transfer Test

The Leesa Oasis Chill has a moderate level of motion transfer. In our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 9.32 m/s². This is 11.8% more motion than the average of 8.34 m/s².

Max. Acceleration

4.87 m/s²

Min. Acceleration

The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.

The thick 4.75” comfort layer helps to absorb much of the energy on the mattress, which keeps motion transfer quite restrained.

In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion spikes from 0 to 0.08 seconds. Motion declines rapidly thereafter and by 0.85 seconds we’ve returned to near-zero energy levels.

Leesa Oasis Chill Motion Transfer Chart
Leesa Oasis Chill Motion Transfer Chart

Mattresses with the lowest motion are able to disperse all energy within 0.3 seconds. The Oasis Chill is far from that mark. Even so, the bulk of the energy is dispersed by 0.64 seconds. I don’t expect motion transfer at these levels will be problematic for most sleepers.

10

Response Test

The Leesa Oasis Chill has an extremely fast material response. In our tests, we measured a mostly recovered response time of 0.3 seconds and a fully recovered response time of 0.8 seconds.

Mostly Recovered

0.3 sec.

Complete Recovery

0.8 sec.

These are 0.11 and 0.04 seconds faster than the average, respectively. While the recovery speed is fast, it’s not quite at the level of the fastest mattresses we’ve tested (which is 0.2 seconds to mostly recover).

The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.

The copper memory foam is the layer that slows down the total mattress responsiveness speed. The coils and poly foam in the core rebound back to shape instantly. Even so, at these speeds, most sleepers will find the mattress doesn’t create a “stuck” feeling, and ease of movement is a non-issue.

Bounce Test

The Leesa Oasis Chill has a moderate level of bounce. In our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 9.07”.

Max. Depth

5.13″

Max. Rebound

3.94″

Total Bounce

9.07″

This is 0.55” less than the average bounce height of 9.62”. While the bounce is a little south of average it’s nothing I’m overly concerned with. Ideally, I like to see mattresses with 8-12” of bounce.

Max. Sinkage Depth

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.

At these heights, we see all of the major benefits to ease of movement and sex, while also minimizing motion transfer. In my view, most sleepers will find this level of bounce to be perfectly acceptable.

9.9

Edge Support Test

The Leesa Oasis Chill has excellent edge support for both sitting and lying. In our sitting edge support tests, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.25”. This is 0.89” less sinkage than the average of 4.14”.

Max Sinkage

Lying Support

Excellent

Any sitting compression of 4.0” or less is great. Even when sitting directly on the edge of the mattress I felt well supported and the materials maintained their shape. Lying edge support is equally as impressive.

The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.

In our lying edge support tests I felt well supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress creates great support in part due to 2 rows of reinforced edge support coils.

These coils, in combination with the 13.5” total profile, material quality, and overall support of the coil unit in general, create ample edge support.

Sex Test

The best mattresses for sex have high bounce, good edge support, quiet materials, and good pressure relief and cooling.

These 5 factors make up the NapLab sex performance score.

Sex FactorFactor WeightScoreRating
Bounce60%9.8Moderate

For the Leesa Oasis Chill, these individual factors generated a sex score of 9.8.

Leesa Oasis Chill Relaxing 2
Leesa Oasis Chill Relaxing

This mattress has moderate levels of bounce (slightly less than average) and excellent edge support. Bounce and edge support make up 80% of the sex score and are arguably the most important factors for ideal sex performance.

This mattress is also very quiet, has excellent pressure relief, and exceptional cooling.

9.5

Pressure Relief Test

The Leesa Oasis Chill has excellent pressure relief. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of pressure point build-up. The mattress did a great job at remaining comfortable and relieving pressure even during extended sessions lying in the exact same position.

Comfort Layer

4.75″

Support Layer

8.8″

The mattress uses a 4.75” comfort layer, including a 1.75” quilted cover, 1.5” memory foam, and 1.5” poly foam. This combination of materials creates an even and balanced level of body contouring, which helps create ample pressure relief.

Looking at the material thickness, types, and quality, in addition to our subjective experiences testing the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the Oasis Chill to have excellent pressure relief.

9.2

Off-Gassing Test

Off-gassing on the Leesa Oasis Chill was strong when we initially unboxed it. The odor took 10 days to fully dissipate.

For Leesa, these individual terms and conditions generated a company score of 9.8.

Leesa offers a trial period of 100 nights, which is a bit shorter than the 164-night average for a trial period. It also comes with a 10-year warranty.

Of the 180+ mattresses we’ve tested to date, 27% have lifetime warranties. The average of the other 73% of mattresses is 14 years. Compared to this date, the Leesa warranty is shorter than average on all accounts.

How firm is the Leesa Oasis Chill?

The Leesa Oasis Chill is available in two firmness levels, cushion-firm and plush.

firmness - 6 out of 10 - medium

We tested the Cushion Firm, which is a 6 out of 10 with a medium-firm feel. We estimate the Plush version of this mattress to be a 4 out of 10, giving it a soft feel.

Firmness Chart 4

Support & Sleeping Positions

Support on the Leesa Oasis Chill Hybrid was excellent. I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress checks all the major boxes I look for. We have a 13.5” total profile with 8.75” of support materials and a 4.75” comfort layer.

All three of these material measurements are more than the average we see (based on all of our tests to date), which are 11.9” total profile height, 7.7” support layer, and 4.2” comfort layer.

While a thicker mattress isn’t always better, in most cases it is. We see high-quality and high-performance coils, foams, and other materials at every level. The coil unit consists of 1,032 individual coils and 3 support zones.

Zoned support helps deliver more support where your body needs it, creating a more neutral spinal alignment. The material quality, in combination with the multiple firmness options, means there are a wide variety of body types and preferences, in addition to all sleeping positions, that can be well supported by the mattress.

Materials

In total, there are five distinct layers. The top 3 are comfort layers and the bottom two are support layers. Here is a more detailed breakdown from top to bottom:

  • 1.75″ quilted cover
  • 1.50″ copper memory foam
  • 1.50″ poly foam
  • 8.0″ pocketed coils
  • 0.75″ support foam

The Cover

The cover of this mattress is 1.75″ thick and with a quilted / tufted design. The actual fabric used on the cover is thin and breathable, but the tufted design holds the cover snugly against the core of the mattress.

The mattresses in the Leesa Chill collection all have the same quilted cover, infused with cooling fibers that are designed to improve overall cooling performance.

The sides of the cover have handles to make it easier to carry or rotate the mattress.

The Comfort Layer

Beyond the 1.75″ thickness of the quilted cover, are two layers of comfort foam. The top layer is a 1.5″ copper memory foam.

Copper-infused foams typically have better cooling performance compared to traditional foam. It is likely that this foam improves cooling on the Oasis as well.

Below the copper foam is a 1.5″ transitional poly foam. This poly foam helps transition weight from the comfort layer up top into the support layer below.

The Support Layer

The support layer is 8.0″ thick and consists of hundreds of pocketed coils. These coils are individually encased in a thin fabric, which allows each coil to move independently from each other—improving pressure relief and overall performance.

Product Evolution

The Chill line of mattresses from Leesa was launched in October 2023, which includes the Studio Chill, Oasis Chill, Sapira Chill, and Deluxe Chill.

The Chill line is essentially an improvement to the original Leesa Studio, Sapira, and Legend mattresses. The most significant difference between the Chill and original versions is the addition of the cooling cover.

Most other basic design elements and material types are consistent between the Chill and original mattress types.

Winkbed Original

9.95 Overall Score

The Winkbed Original is tied for the top-performing hybrid we’ve tested to date. It has a 5.0″ comfort layer made of gel foam, poly foam, and transitional support foam. Cooling is absolutely fantastic and it outperforms (or ties) the Oasis in all 8 of the testing categories we score. For the exact same price as the Oasos, the Winkbed provides a better-value mattress for many sleepers.

Nolah Evolution 15

9.77 Overall Score

The Nolah Evolution 15 is a 15″ thick hybrid with a 6.0″ comfort layer made of poly foam and a quilted cover. The thicker comfort layer gives the Evolution a big advantage in terms of pressure relief. Still, this mattress also struggles with higher levels of motion transfer, much like the Oasis Chill does. The Evolution has a higher overall performance than the Oasis hybrid.
