Best For
- Fantastic cooling performance
- Very fast material response time
- Great pressure relief with 13.5″ mattress height
Considerations
- Higher levels of motion transfer
- 100-night trial period is shorter than the average
- Deep sinkage may not be right for all sleepers
Our Verdict
The Leesa Legend Chill is a 13.5″ hybrid mattress with a medium feel. It is designed for fantastic cooling and really came through in our performance tests.
This mattress has deep sinkage, moderate bounce, excellent edge support, and excellent pressure relief. If you’re deciding between the Leesa Legend and the Leesa Legend Chill, I’d say go for the Chill.
The Chill has a cooling cover, significantly better edge support, and a lower price tag. The biggest disadvantage to the Legend Chill is higher levels of motion transfer (and deeper sinkage if that’s not the feel you’re looking for).

How is Leesa Legend Chill Different?
The Leesa Legend Chill mattress has notably better-than-average overall performance, but with a price that is also above average—43% more than the average hybrid (or $647).
Advantages
Advantages of the Leesa Legend Chill include fantastic cooling performance, better edge support, and a thicker mattress profile than average (1.5″ thicker).
Neutral Factors
This mattress has 17% more sinkage than average and just slightly more bounce than average. Both sinkage and bounce are more preferential factors than “good vs. bad”, but still important in the overall feel of the mattress.
Disadvantages
The response time is slightly slower than average and it has 15% more motion transfer than average. This mattress also takes a little longer to off-gas than average.
While all of these are pretty minor disadvantages, the biggest con is the price. At $1999 for a queen, the Leesa Legend Chill is notably more expensive than the average priced hybrid (based on all of our tests to date).

Cooling Test
The Leesa Legend Chill has exceptionally good cooling performance. During our tests, I felt no significant level of heat retention around my body.
Baseline Temp.
75.9° F
Max Temp.
92.0° F
Ending Temp.
83.4° F
On the contrary, the mattress is equipped with a cooling cover made of phase change fibers. This cover creates a noticeable cool feel when you first lie down on the mattress.
According to Leesa, it’s designed to maintain a temperature of 88°. Based on our objective temperature tests it didn’t quite reach that level, but it wasn’t bad by any stretch.
Max Temp.
Ending Temp
- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
In our objective cooling tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 92.0°F. After getting off the mattress the temperature declined by 5.3° from minutes 0 to 1, which is 0.77° cooler than average.
From minutes 0 to 5 the decline was 8.6°, which is 1.64° cooler than average.
Heat Dissipation Over Time
The combination of the phase change cooling cover, hybrid design providing additional airflow, high-performance poly foams, and micro coil air gap layer bring multiple cooling advantages to the Legend Chill.
When we consider the materials, objective data, and subjective experience, I am confident most sleepers will find the Leesa Legend Chill a strong cooling performer.
Sinkage Test
The Leesa Legend Chill has a deep level of pressure point sinkage. In our tests, we measured a sinkage depth of 2.54”. This is 0.37” more sinkage than the average of 2.17”.
Sinkage Depth
2.54″
Sinkage Feel
Deep
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.
The mattress creates a dramatic and exacting body contour hug with an increased level of sinkage. It’s not as dramatic as traditional memory foam, but it certainly leans in that direction. The quilted cover does help to restrain some of the dramatic body contour.
Even so, the level of sinkage depth, medium firmness feel, and high contour are all designed to work together to create great pressure relief and hug, especially to the benefit of side sleepers.
Motion Transfer Test
The Leesa Legend Chill has a moderate level of motion transfer. In our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 9.80 m/s². This is 15% more motion transfer than the average of 8.46 m/s².
Max. Acceleration
3.81 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-5.99 m/s²
Accel. Range
9.80 m/s²
While the foam comfort layers are helping to reduce much of the motion, the microcoil layer is likely to have the biggest negative impact. Microcoils give way to pressure easily, allowing for a more dramatic and immediate sinking into the mattress.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
When microcoils are used with a coil unit, we are able to feel more of that motion in the mattress as a whole. That said, the level of motion transfer is still “moderate”. It is not bad by any stretch.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we see higher motion from 0 to 0.21 seconds. Motion declines thereafter and by 0.63 seconds we return to near-zero levels of motion.
While I would have loved to see the motion spikes be a little lower, I was pleased with the relatively quick motion duration. Overall, I don’t expect the Legend Chill’s level of motion transfer will be an issue for most sleepers.
Response Test
The Leesa Legend Chill had mixed results for responsiveness. In our tests, we measured a mostly recovered response time of 0.5 seconds and a fully recovered response time of 1.7 seconds.
Mostly Recovered
0.5 sec.
Complete Recovery
1.7 sec.
The mostly recovered time of 0.5 seconds is 0.1 seconds slower than the average of 0.40 seconds. Even so, let it be known that 0.5 seconds is still an extremely fast response time. That said, the fully recovered response time of 1.7 seconds is less than ideal.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
More sensitive sleepers could find it creates something of a stuck feeling or otherwise causes it to be more difficult to move around on the mattress.
On average we have measured mattresses taking 0.84 seconds to fully recover. This means the Leesa Legend Chill is 0.86 seconds slower than average to make a full material recovery.
Bounce Test
The Leesa Legend Chill has a moderate level of bounce. In our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 9.84”. This is 0.17” less bounce than the average of 9.67”.
Max. Depth
5.87″
Max. Rebound
3.97″
Total Bounce
9.84″
Max. Sinkage Depth
Max Bounce Height
The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
The thick foam comfort layer, micro coils, and poly foam that feels like memory foam are all absorbing a good deal of the bounce energy. This helps keep motion transfer in check, but it also reduces the total bounce.
Ideally, I like to see 8-12” of total bounce height. The Leesa Legend Chill is within that range. As a result, I expect most sleepers will be perfectly fine with this level of bounce.
Edge Support Test
The Leesa Legend Chill has excellent edge support. In our sitting edge support tests, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.5”. This is 0.61” less sitting sinkage than the average of 4.11”.
Max Sinkage
3.50″
Lying Support
Excellent
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.
Sitting, 200 lbs.
A sitting compression of 4.0” or less is excellent and the Legend Chill hit that mark. Lying edge support is equally as good. I felt well supported in all sleeping positions even when lying directly on the edge of the mattress.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.
Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.
The Leesa Chill series uses a robust 8.0” pocketed coil unit that is equipped with 2 rows of reinforced edge support coils. These coils create ample support at the edge of the mattress.
Sex Test
The best mattresses for sex have high bounce, good edge support, quiet materials, and good pressure relief and cooling.
These 5 factors make up the NapLab sex performance score.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 60% | 10 | Moderate |
Edge Support | 20% | 9.8 | Excellent |
Noise | 10% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 9.5 | Excellent |
Cooling | 5% | 10 | Exceptional |
For the Leesa Legend Chill, these individual factors generated a sex score of 9.9.
This mattress has high levels of bounce and excellent edge support. It is active and engaging while maintaining good support whether sitting or lying.
Bounce and edge support make up 80% of the sex score. The other 20% of the score comes from minimal noise, excellent pressure relief, and exceptional cooling.
Pressure Relief Test
Pressure relief on the Leesa Legend Chill is excellent. During our tests, I felt no significant level of pressure point build-up.
Comfort Layer
4.75″
Support Layer
8.75″
The mattress uses a proven material design that we’ve seen on other high-performance hybrid mattresses.
We have 4.75” of total comfort material, which is more than the 4.2” average comfort layer thickness (based on all of our mattress tests to date).
Within the comfort layer, we have a mix of a quilted cover, poly foam that feels like memory foam, micro coils, and responsive polyfoam that feels like latex.
This combination creates a beautifully balanced and comfortable feel that does a great job of alleviating pressure points. I expect most sleepers will find this level of pressure relief to be more than satisfactory.
Off-Gassing Test
Off-gassing on the Leesa Legend Chill is strong right out of the box and the odor lasted for 8 days. This is 40% more than the 5-night average, but still not anywhere near the longest off-gassing we’ve seen.
Initial Smell Strength
Strong
Off-Gassing Period
8 days
Moreover, the odor was more distinct than some of the milder off-gassing odors smells we’ve tested. The odor smelled strongly like wet paint.
This is actually not that uncommon, and it’s a chemical odor we have noticed on other mattresses we’ve tested, especially those with memory foam (or memory foam like poly foams) and phase change materials.
Once the 8 days passed, the odor was a non-issue and did not have long-term effects on the mattress.
Company
The company score takes a look at factors that may influence your experience with the mattress.
Factors include length of the trial period, warranty, shipping / return costs, and country of origin.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|
Trial Period | 25% | 9.0 | 100 nights |
Warranty | 25% | 10 | 10 years |
Shipping | 25% | 10 | $0 |
Returns | 25% | 10 | $0 |
Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
For Leesa, these individual terms and conditions generated a company score of 9.8.
Leesa offers a trial period of 100 nights, which is a bit shorter than the 164-night average for a trial period. It also comes with a 10-year warranty.
Of the 180+ mattresses we’ve tested to date, 27% have lifetime warranties. The average of the other 73% of mattresses is 14 years. Compared to this date, the Leesa warranty is shorter than average on all accounts.
Shipping and returns are both free from Leesa.
How firm is Leesa Legend Chill?
The Leesa Legend Chill hybrid has a medium feel with a firmness rating of 5 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm.
Support & Sleeping Positions
The Leesa Legend Chill creates great support. During our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress uses a thick 8.75” support layer, which is notably thicker than the 7.7” average support layer thickness (based on all of our tests to date).
The support layer consists of an 8.0” pocketed coil unit and a 0.75” support foundational foam.
The coil unit is zoned, meaning it creates more support where you need it. There are 3 zones including the lower, middle, and upper portion of the mattress.
In addition, the coil unit includes 2 rows of reinforced perimeter edge support coils. These coils dramatically improve support at the edges of the mattress.

This mattress is designed as the top-tier mattress within the Chill lineup by Leesa and has the highest price tag within the Chill line.
The Legend Chill has a similar performance score compared to the Leesa Oasis Chill (9.70) and the Leesa Sapira Chill (9.75).
Materials
In total, there are six layers on the Legend Chill mattress. From top to bottom, the layers include the following materials:
- 1.5″ quilted cover
- 1.0″ poly foam
- 0.75″ microcoils
- 1.5″ poly foam
- 8.0″ pocketed coils
- 0.75″ support foam
The Cover
The Legend Chill has a 1.5” quilted cover with the classic 4-bar gray accents towards the base of the mattress. The sides also accent the Euro-top design, with convenient carrying handles sewn into the gusset.
The cover is infused with cooling fibers, designed to maintain a skin temperature of 88°. However, in our testing it didn’t quite reach that 88° mark.
The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer includes a 1.0″ layer of poly foam (green) followed by a 0.75″ high layer of microcoils. These coils are short and there are many—2,756 individual coils if you count them (on the queen mattress).
But the coils allow for faster material response and better pressure relief when sitting or lying on the mattress.
Under the coils is a 1.5″ layer of poly foam (yellow) that acts as a transitional layer between the comfort layer and the support layer.
The Support Layer
The support layer contains an 8.0″ pocketed coil system with 1,032 individual coils, each encased in a thin fabric that separates them.
This is a zoned system that includes three distinct zones. Areas where there is greater pressure (ie: midsection and hips) use stronger coils for support and areas with less pressure (ie: head and feel) use lighter coils.
Changing the gauge of the coils at varying points in the mattress helps ensure that your body maintains proper alignment, no matter where you are on the mattress.
The edges of the mattress also have a double row of reinforced coils for better edge support.
Beneath the coils, there is a 0.75″ of high-density support foam for maximum stability and
Product Evolution
The Leesa Legend Chill was launched towards the end of 2023. Since its release, there have been no major design or material changes made to the mattress.
Leesa Legend vs. Legend Chill
Wondering what the difference is between the Leesa Legend Chill and the original Leesa Legend?
Despite the similarities in name, there are actually quite a few differences. For example, the Legend Chill does not contain memory foam and uses microcoils that are half the height of the original Legend microcoils.
The cover is also different as the Chill series uses the cover infused with cooling fibers. The original Leesa Legend uses a thinner cover that contains a blend of organic cotton, Merino wool, and recycled fibers.
