Our Verdict
The WinkBed mattress is a hybrid mattress that uses pocketed coils and a layer of gel-infused foam to provide comfort and support, with a Euro-top finish. It has an instant response time, great contouring, support, and overall comfort. If you’re highly concerned with cooling and want a mattress that moves with you, the WinkBed is a great option.
Scoring Note – We fully tested both the WinkBed Luxury Firm and the WinkBed Soft. The Luxury Firm scored a 9.82 (as shown above) and the WinkBed Soft scored a 9.30.
Although they have many similarities, poorer edge support and higher levels of motion transfer were the biggest hits against the Soft. However, a 9.30 is still a high score among all the mattresses we’ve tested to date (average score of 8.64).

In the case of Winkbed, we tested 2 of the 3 firmnesses (Winkbed Soft and Winkbed Luxury Firm).
For the sake of clear comparison, check out the side-by-side table below looking at the Luxury Firm (LF) and the Winkbed Soft.
Test | Luxury Firm Rating | Soft Rating |
---|---|---|
Cooling | Outstanding | Outstanding |
Sinkage | Deep | Extremely Deep |
Motion Transfer | Very Low | Moderate |
Response Time | Extremely Fast | Extremely Fast |
Bounce | High | Moderate |
Edge Support | Outstanding | Outstanding |
Sex | Excellent | Good |
Pressure Relief | Outstanding | Outstanding |
Off-Gassing | Outstanding | Excellent |
Company | Excellent | Excellent |
Note: For simplicity, we will sometimes refer to the Luxury Firm model as “LF” in scoring tags and tables.
Note the differences in the following categories: sinkage, motion transfer, bounce, sex, and off-gassing.
All other categories outside of these select 3, had identical performance between firmness levels.
How is WinkBed Different?
Compared to the average, the Winkbed performs much higher than average and is tied as the top-performing mattress we’ve tested to date.
It is priced slightly higher than the average hybrid, but not by a huge margin. Considering the higher performance score, the Winkbed is an exceptional value.
Advantages
The Winkbed has better cooling, lower levels of motion transfer, faster material response time, and better edge support (for both sitting and lying). Sex performance was also better than average thanks to the higher bounce and better edge support.
Winkbed has a 14″ thick profile which gives it outstanding pressure relief for a wide range of sleepers with varying body weights and sleeping positions.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has deep sinkage on the Luxury Firm version and Extremely Deep sinkage on the soft. If you don’t like sinkage and contour, this could be a disadvantage for you, but many sleepers (especially side sleepers) may enjoy the feel.
Bounce levels are high on the Luxury Firm version and moderate on the Soft version. Although we didn’t test it, I would imagine the Firm version would have higher levels of bounce.
Disadvantages
There are no red-flag disadvantages to the Winkbed. The price is slightly higher than the average hybrid, but given the higher performance, this mattress is still a solid value.
Cooling Test
Both the Luxury Firm and Soft versions of the Winkbed have outstanding cooling performance. The combination of foam plus coils allows for improved breathability and airflow over a traditional all-foam mattress.
WinkBed – Luxury Firm
The WinkBed mattress (luxury firm) started with a temperature of 84.0° F. After lying on the mattress for 15 minutes the surface of the mattress was 90.3°. After 5 minutes with no one lying on the mattress, it had reduced the temperature back to 87.6° F.
Baseline Temp.
84.0° F
Max. Temp.
90.3° F
Ending Temp.
87.6° F

Ending Temp.
- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
On the WinkBed, I found the internal temperature of the mattress to be very comfortable. The coil-based core really does a great job of dissipating the heat and allowing maximum airflow.
The pillow-top cover retains a bit more heat than a thin cover would, but also provides more contouring and greater pressure relief than many mattresses.
Heat Dissipation Over Time
In addition, heat dissipation on the Winkbed was faster than many mattresses we’ve tested thus far. Although the Winkbed uses a decent level of foam in the top layers, those layers just don’t hold onto heat very well. It only took the Winkbed 2 minutes to return within 0.3° of the baseline temperature.
This further helps to improve the temperature on the mattress and keeps sleepers cooler.
WinkBed – Soft
The Soft version of this mattress has outstanding cooling as well—every bit as good as the cooling profile on the medium firmness WinkBed.
Baseline Temp.
85.4° F
Max. Temp.
89.7° F
Ending Temp.
86.8° F

Ending Temp.
During our tests, it peaked at 89.7°, which is among the lowest surface temperatures we’ve tested to date.
Heat dissipation was also good, with a notable drop by the 2-minute mark, reaching 86.6°.
Heat Dissipation Over Time
Subjectively speaking, I did not feel warm during the tests. Despite the deeper sinkage and more substantial hug feel, the mattress still does an excellent job at breathing well and remaining cool.
Sinkage Test
The level of sinkage we measured is deep on the Luxury Firm and extremely deep on the Winkbed Soft.
Our pressure point sinkage test revealed a maximum sinkage depth of 2.38″ on the Luxury Firm and 3.16″ on the Soft version.
WinkBed Luxury Firm Sinkage
WinkBed Soft Sinkage
Considering the WinkBed has a plush pillow top, this sinkage is about what I had expected. It’s deep enough to provide good contouring without giving up good support.
The Soft mattress has about 30% more sinkage than the Luxury Firm.
Regardless of what firmness you go with, the WinkBed is a soft mattress with a thick euro-style pillow topper. That combination results in a high level of sinkage for even relatively light body weight sleepers.
Furthermore, because the Winkbed has such a soft cover, it’s able to provide great pressure relief for sleepers that are lightweight, in addition to heavier also. Many mattresses that are incredibly supportive struggle to provide a comfortable pressure relief dynamic for a wider range of body types.
The material choices and overall design of the Winkbed create a sleeping surface that allows for a more consistent pressure-relieving level of sinkage suitable to a wider range of people.
Motion Transfer Test
The WinkBed Luxury Firm has very low motion transfer and the Winkbed Soft has moderate levels of motion transfer.
There is a bit more motion transfer on the Soft version than the Luxury Firm.
WinkBed – Luxury Firm
The level of motion transfer on the Luxury Firm is documented in the video below.
This measurement reveals the intensity and motion waves as they travel across the mattress.
Max. Acceleration
2.55 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-3.30 m/s²
Accel. Range
5.85 m/s²
From these results, you can see that there’s a decent amount of motion transfer from the initial ball drop, and that energy dissipates relatively quickly. It only takes around 0.3 seconds for the most significant motion to dissipate.
One design aspect that helps to limit motion transfer is the pocketed coils. Although each coil has a bit of bounce, they are pocketed independently so the energy that goes into one coil does not necessarily spread across the whole mattress.
This design factor, in combination with the relatively soft Euro-style pillow topper, results in a sleeping surface that handles motion transfer surprisingly well.
WinkBed – Soft
The level of motion transfer on the Soft is documented in the video below.
Max. Acceleration
5.20 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-4.30 m/s²
Accel. Range
9.50 m/s²
Our accelerometer tests revealed a higher level of motion transfer than I would have expected, especially based on the results of the Luxury Firm test.
The tests showed an acceleration range of 9.5 m/s². This is notably more than what we experienced with the medium firmness Winkbed, but on par with what we saw on the Winkbed Plus.
A hybrid mattress is typically going to have more motion transfer than an all-foam. However, it goes a little beyond that with the Winkbed soft due to the relative softness of the pillow topper.
Because the top layers are so easily compressed we saw more motion in the way the top layers bounced up and down after the initial impact. The physical motion is clearly demonstrated in our motion test videos as well.
Response Test
The response time of the WinkBed mattress is extremely fast, regardless of which firmness you go with. You can see a view of the responsiveness documented below.
WinkBed – Luxury Firm
Mostly Recovered
0.2 sec.
Complete Recovery
0.3 sec.
WinkBed – Soft
Mostly Recovered
0.3 sec.
Complete Recovery
0.5 sec.
The fast response time can largely be attributed to the hybrid pocketed coil design as well as quality materials.
Generally speaking, foam-based mattresses are going to have a slower response time than any coil-based mattress.
We had fully expected the Winkbed to perform well on our response test due to the coils. However, it still includes a thick comfort layer of soft foam. Those foams, in combination with the pocketed coils, rebound extraordinarily quickly.
This creates a sleeping surface that provides excellent ease of movement and one in which sleepers will not feel “stuck” in heavily contouring foams.
Bounce Test
Regardless of the firmness, all WinkBed mattresses will experience a moderate degree of bounce. This is due to the hybrid construction of foam and coils combined.
WinkBed – Luxury Firm
Concerning bounce, both firmnesses of the Winkbed mattress had moderate bounce during our tests.
With the WinkBed Luxury Firm, the ball sank to a maximum depth of 5.74″ before rebounding upwards. On the upswing, the ball bounces 4.17″ above the surface of the mattress.
Max. Depth
5.74″
Max. Rebound
4.17″
Total Bounce
9.91″
This gives the WinkBed Luxury Firm a maximum bounce range of 9.91″, which is a pretty high level of bounce.
Max. Sinkage Depth
Max. Bounce Height
The level of bounce is documented in the video below.
Bounce has an inherent degree of subjectivity. More or less bounce isn’t necessarily better or worse. However, more bounce does result in a mattress that’s easier to move around in during the night.
WinkBed – Soft
On the Soft WinkBed, our tests documented a bounce of 9.68”, which is on par with what we saw on the Winkbed Luxury Firm mattress.
Max. Depth
5.43″
Max. Rebound
4.25″
Total Bounce
9.68″
Max. Sinkage Depth
Max. Bounce Height
Again, these results are pretty typical of hybrid mattresses in general. It’s a high level of bounce without being too extreme.
The 9.68” bounce range gives it a traditional feel that makes it easy to move around on the mattress and also has advantages for the dance without pants.
Edge Support Test
The edge support on the WinkBed is fantastic. As you can see in the images below, the mattress barely deflected at all beyond the blue polka-dot layer.
WinkBed – Luxury Firm
On the Luxury Firm, the edge support while seated was excellent. There was a max deflection was around 2.25″, measured directly under my legs.
Max. Sinkage
2.25″
Lying Support
Exceptional
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.
Sitting, 200 lbs.
The level of edge support while lying was also excellent, as is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.
Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.
The coils provided excellent edge support all the way to the perimeter of the mattress.
Even while wearing our 200-pound vest, the Winkbed maintained excellent edge support. Whether you are sitting near, having sex on, or sleeping on, the edge support of the Winkbed mattress is fantastic by any definition.
WinkBed – Soft
On the Soft, the max deflection was around 2.25″, measured directly under my legs.
Max. Sinkage
4.5″
Lying Support
Excellent
The level of edge support while seated on the WinkBed Soft is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.
Sitting, 200 lbs.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.
Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.
Overall, excellent edge support, despite the fact it’s a soft mattress. Soft mattresses can sometimes create too much sinkage, which causes problems with support while sitting or sleeping near the edge.
The Winkbed soft remained well supported even when sitting directly on the edge.
It definitely has more compression at the edges compared to the Winkbed medium, but it’s within normal limits and remains supportive.
Sex Test
The best mattresses for sex have high bounce, good edge support, quiet materials, and good pressure relief and cooling.
These 5 factors make up the NapLab sex performance score.
The table below shows sex performance on the Luxury Firm Winkbed:
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 8.7 | High |
Edge Support | 20% | 10 | Outstanding |
Noise | 5% | 8.0 | Moderate |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |
Cooling | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |
The table below shows sex performance on the Soft Winkbed:
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 8.5 | High |
Edge Support | 20% | 8.1 | Good |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |
Cooling | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |
For the Winkbed Luxury Firm, these individual factors generated a sex score of 9.1 and just slightly lower (8.6) on the Winkbed Soft.
Overall, the WinkBed is a fantastic mattress for sex and checks nearly all of our boxes. It has excellent bounce, edge support, and cooling.
Because of the coils, it is a little noisier than an all-foam mattress, but what it lacks in noise, it makes up for in bounce, edge support, and cooling (where foam can sometimes struggle).
The edge support is a little lacking on the Soft firmness, but still not terrible. And the slightly poorer edge support is traded in exchange for a better noise score.
As of our initial publishing of this review, the Winkbed is currently the #1 rated mattress for sex that we’ve tested at NapLab. While rankings may fluctuate over time as we test more mattresses, I fully expect Winkbed will continue to be among our favorites for sex.
There’s just not much it doesn’t do right.
Pressure Relief Test
On WinkBed, there are two main parts that make up the comfort layer—the pillowtop with gel foam and the support system that sits right above the coils.
Comfort Layer
5.0″
Support Layer
9.0″
The pillowtop is 2″ thick and the comfort foam below that is 3″ thick. That provides 5″ of comfort material before you even get to the pocketed coils.
Having 5″ of comfort material on top of a robust coil system is an impressive material construction. In general, more comfort material leads to better pressure relief overall, but especially better pressure relief for a wider range of body types.
Off-Gassing Test
Off-gassing was basically a non-issue on the Winkbed. There was no initial smell when we opened the mattress.
Initial Smell Strength
None
Off-Gassing Period
0 days
Coil mattresses tend to have an advantage when it comes to off-gassing, as the more foams in a mattress, the greater the chance it’s going to have a strong odor.
While there are still plenty of foams within the WinkBed mattress, those foams and glue layers seem to have ample time to off-gas prior to shipping.
Company
The company score takes a look at factors that may influence your experience with the mattress.
Factors include length of the trial period, warranty, shipping / return costs, and country of origin.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|
Trial Period | 15% | 8.0 | 120 nights |
Warranty | 10% | 10 | Lifetime |
Shipping | 5% | 10 | $0 |
Returns | 20% | 10 | $0 |
Trust | 50% | 10 | Outstanding |
Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
For Winkbed, these individual terms and conditions generated a company score of 9.7.
WinkBed offers very consumer-friendly terms. They have a long 120-night trial period with free shipping and a lifetime warranty. The warranty is a full replacement program that will send you a new mattress if yours fails to perform at an acceptable level.
Indentation of a mattress is one of the most common reasons to redeem a warranty. Because of this, it’s oftentimes also the fine print that will guard a company against ever having to actually replace the mattress.
This is not the case with WinkBeds. If the mattress sinks more than 1.5″ in any spot, they will offer you a full replacement.
In addition to WinkBeds standard warranty terms, they also offer a 50% off replacement guarantee. In a nutshell, you can get a new replacement WinkBed mattress (same size) for 50% off for any reason. You can only do it once per household, but nevertheless, that’s a pretty cool extra.
Do note, Winkbed limits customers to one return per customer and household shipping.
How firm is WinkBed?
The WinkBed comes in three different firmness options—soft, medium, and firm. We tested the medium firmness, which is called the “Luxury Firm” and found it to be around a 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale, where 10 is the most firm.
Winkbed is also offered in soft and firm.
The soft Winkbed mattress is a 4 out of 10. This still creates plenty of support, but does give it an extra plush feel.
We haven’t tested the firm yet, but we’re estimating the firm Winkbed to come in at a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
Support & Sleeping Positions
Depending on your body weight and personal sleep position preferences, you may find that certain firmnesses are better suited for you than others.
We try to take the guesswork out by providing the table below. Use this chart as a guide to help decide which mattress type is best for you.

Design
The design of the WinkBed mattress is a hybrid that uses gel-infused foam and pocketed coils to provide comfort, fast response time, and cooling. There is a pillowtop layer that adds comfort and contouring. Especially for side sleepers, this can be a critically important feature for comfort.

Materials
So moving right along, let’s talk about the materials used in the WinkBed mattress.
Regardless of firmness, there are five layers of the WinkBed mattress. From top to bottom, these layers include:
- 2.0″ gel foam
- 2.0″ poly foam
- 1.0″ support foam
- 8.0″ pocketed coils
- 1.0″ support foam
You can see these materials for yourself in this photo of the inside of the WinkBed Luxury Firm.
Although the layers break out to be the same materials, here is an inside look at the WinkBed Soft mattress.
The biggest difference between these two mattresses is that the firmness of the foam materials is different.
The Cover
The WinkBed mattress has a thin Tencel cover, which is stretchy to form around the contours of the pillow top below. Tencel is a performance material that is breathable and comfortable.
The Tencel cover has a plush pillowtop design with a thick 2.0″ profile. It is made of gel-infused foam, designed to provide deep compression, hug, and contouring.
If you opt for the WinkBed Soft, it’ll have a 3.0″ thick pillow top.
The Comfort Layer
There is a 2″ layer of a polyfoam blend, followed by a 1″ layer of support foam. This poly foam has a 2.5lb density, strong cooling properties, and high point elasticity for pressure relief.
The foam in this layer has an ILD rating of 22.
Note: If you’re looking for something with more support, you may want to consider the Winkbed Plus. On the Plus, this layer of polyfoam is replaced with a 2.5″ layer of perforated latex for more support and higher elasticity while retaining support and exceptional cooling.
The latex foam in this layer on the WinkBed Plus has an ILD rating of 12.
The Support Layer
The support layer is made up of 8.0″ of individually pocketed coils followed by a 1.0″ high-density foam base.
In areas where extra support is needed (like along the back, spine, and edge of the mattress), the coils are more supportive and lighter in areas where less pressure is applied (like arms and legs).
Product Evolution
The WinkBed has been around since 2015 and has made a few changes to the initial design since its launch.
Two small changes that Winkbed has made since its initial launch include:
- SupportCell Foam. WinkBed replaced the 2″ micro-coil layer with a 2″ layer of a new type of high-performance polyfoam call SupportCell foam
- Higher coil count. WinkBed also increased the coil count by making each coil slightly smaller than earlier versions. More coils mean that the pressure of sleepers is distributed more evenly as well as decreased motion transfer.
Aside from these somewhat small changes, the overall design and composition remain the same—a luxury hybrid mattress made of pocketed coils and foam.
Beyond the original WinkBed, the company has also launched three other versions of the mattress.
The WinkBed Plus, WinkBed GravityLux, and WinkBed EcoCloud were all launched in July 2019.
Other WinkBed Mattresses
Aside from the classic WinkBed reviewed above, WinkBeds also offers two additional mattress styles—the GravityLux and the EcoCloud.
