Written by: Derek Hales

Updated On:

When it comes time for sex, a mattress can make or break the overall experience. We’ve tested over 211+ mattresses to date to find out which are best for sex.

Best Mattress

Our best mattress for sex guide highlights the best-performing mattresses at a range of price points and firmnesses. The mattresses on our list had to be both:

  • Excellent mattresses overall with great support and a comfortable feel
  • Excellent mattresses specifically for sex, with high bounce, great edge support, and good pressure relief

Mattress Winners Selected

In our Best Mattress For Sex guide, we’re looking at top-scoring mattresses (overall) that are also really great at enhancing sex.

How We Test for Sex

We have developed a series of sex tests that assess bounce, edge support, noise, pressure relief, and cooling.

Sex Test Factor Weights

Bounce (65% weight) and edge support (20% weight) are the most critical factors, accounting for 85% of the weighted sex score.

Bounce Test

Edge Support Test

Nolah Evolution 15 edge support

If a mattress has a high level of bounce and great edge support it will almost certainly perform fantastically well for sex.

You can read more about our sex scoring and testing processes here.

How We Test for Overall Performance

The best mattresses for sex maintain an overall performance score of 9.20 or higher and include a range of prices, mattress types, firmnesses, and feels. This overall score is developed using a series of 8 performance tests.

Performance Categories

Our tests analyze performance across 8 critical factors—cooling, motion transfer, response time, edge support, sex, pressure relief, off-gassing, and company. In addition, we also test sinkage and bounce (though these are not scoring factors as they tend to be preferential “feel factors”).

Our tests include objective and quantifiable data whenever possible. In addition, we use subjective assessment supported by data to round out our testing process.

Our scores are based on mathematical formulas and equations that utilize inputs from our data-driven testing.

You can see our complete testing and scoring process here.

In choosing the best mattresses for sex, we looked at the totality of all of our tests, scores, data, and reviews to date. We analyzed this data alongside our established best mattress framework here.

In addition to achieving a high-performance score (9.70 or higher), all mattresses on this list had to have a fantastic sex performance score. We rate mattresses for sex using a weighted scale with 5 different factors. You can see the specifics on our sex tests and sex scoring here.

To be included on this list the mattresses needed to meet the following criteria:

  • Mattress must have a sex score equal to or higher than 9.1
  • Mattress must have an overall performance score at or above 9.20
  • Mattress must be available for purchase within the USA

Our Verdict

The WinkBed is a 13.5″ hybrid mattress that has a plush, Euro cover, poly foam comfort material, and a pocketed coil base.

It offers a balanced feel with deep sinkage (8% deeper than average) and moderate bounce (2% more bounce than average). The mattress has a balanced feel, despite the deep sinkage, and maintains limited heat retention with a very fast response time with an active feel.

This mattress is great for sex due to its 9.91″ bounce level and exceptional edge support (just 2.25″ of sitting sinkage compression while sitting on the edge). The 13.5″ profile and 5″ of comfort material also give it fantastic pressure relief that is supportive without adding too much contour. Winkbed earned a 9.9 / 10 in our sex score.

The Winkbed is available in three different firmnesses—softer (4), luxury firm (6), and firmer (7), where 10 is the most firm. There is also the Winkbed Plus, which has a slightly firm (7) feel, ideal for heavier-weighted sleepers over 250 lbs.

Winkbed has an exceptional performance score of 9.82 overall, which ranks it as the #1 hybrid, as well as within the top 1% among all mattress types we’ve tested to date.

The Winkbed in queen size is $1,499, 15% higher than the average hybrid mattress. Still, given its performance advantages, the value is fantastic on the Winkbed.

Our Verdict

The Saatva Classic has a thickness of 11.5″ or 14.5″, depending on personal preference (price is the same for both thicknesses), and a coil-on-coil construction. The cover is a plush Euro-top cover followed by a small amount of comfort foam and two layers of coils.

Saatva has a more traditional coil feel and less foam than a more typical hybrid mattress. This combination of materials gives the mattress deep sinkage and extremely high bounce while retaining low levels of motion transfer (something other coil mattresses tend to struggle with).

This mattress is great for sex largely because of its extremely high bounce levels—14.67″ total bounce. Saatva Classic also has exceptional edge support, with only 3.0″ of sinkage when seated directly at the edge of the mattress. It has an 11.5″ profile (or 14.5″ thick depending on your preference) which adds to the luxury feel. Saatva earned a 9.9 / 10 in our sex score.

The Saatva is available in three firmness levels—Plush Soft (4), Luxury Firm (6), or Firm (8), where 10 is the most firm.

This mattress has a fantastic performance score of 9.74 overall, which ranks it as the #1 coil mattress, as well as within the top 1% among all mattress types we’ve tested to date.

For a Saatva Classic, in queen size, it costs $1,696. This is 10% less than average coil mattress—a savings of $182, compared to other coil mattresses we’ve tested to date.

I would recommend the Saatva Classic for sleepers who enjoy a more traditional coil-based mattress feel.

Our Verdict

The Leesa Sapira is an 11″ hybrid that uses poly foam, memory foam, support foam, and a pocketed coil base. This dynamic use of different materials gives the Sapira a balanced feel.

This mattress has moderate levels of sinkage and very high levels of bounce.

What makes the Sapira great for sex is the very high bounce. Compared to average, the Sapira offers 30% more bounce. If you really enjoy an active feel, while still maintaining extremely low levels of motion transfer, the Sapira may be a good pick for you.

The Sapira Hybrid comes in a single firmness, medium-firm, ranking 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale. For more firmness options you may also want to check out the Sapira Chill, an evolution of the Sapira designed for cooling. The Sapira Chill comes in three firmness levels— soft (4), medium-firm (6), or firm (8).

The Sapira Hybrid has a performance score of 9.48 overall, which ranks it among the top 2% of all mattresses tested to date.

The Sapira Hybrid costs 25% more than the average hybrid mattress, $1,699 for a queen. But you’re getting a higher-performing mattress than average as well.

Our Verdict

The Nolah Natural has an overall thickness of 11″ and an organic hybrid design—including an organic cotton cover, natural latex comfort layers, and a pocketed coil base.

This mattress has a deep amount of sinkage and high levels of bounce.

The Nolah’s high sex performance is largely a by-product of the latex composition. Being a latex hybrid, the Nolah also has a more generalized contour, compared to the exacting contour of traditional memory foam. So even though the sinkage is deep, this mattress does not generate that “stuck” feeling. This type of contour can be great for sex.

This mattress is available in a single firmness—5 out of 10 with a medium feel.

The Nolah Natural has a performance score of 9.42, which ranks it in the top 4% of all mattresses tested to date.

In addition to higher performance, it also has a price tag that is below average, 5% less than the average latex hybrid (a savings of $78 for a queen size). Overall, the Nolah Natural is an outstanding value for a latex hybrid.

Our Verdict

The Birch Original mattress is an 11″ thick latex hybrid mattress with a blend of pocketed coils and Talalay latex. The natural latex comfort layer is 2.0″ thick with an organic cotton cover with wool liner.

It has moderate sinkage and extremely high bounce. The Birch offers deeper contour, while still having a firmer feel overall.

This mattress is great for sex thanks to its high bounce, latex materials, generalized contour, and good edge support.

The Birch Original comes in a single firmness—7 out of 10 with a slightly firm feel. For a softer feel, check out the Birch Luxe, which shares many similarities but has a thicker softer cover for a medium-firm feel (6 out of 10).

This mattress has an overall score of 9.44, making it the #2 top-rated latex hybrid and placing it in the top 3% of all mattresses tested to date.

Birch costs $1499 for a queen, 20% less than the average latex hybrid, making it a great value, especially for heavier side sleepers who benefit from both the firmer feel and the extra contour of Birch.

Why It’s Best

The Nest Bedding Sparrow is a 12″ hybrid that includes a mix of pocketed coils, poly foam comfort layers, and a quilted cover.

It has very deep sinkage and higher-than-average levels of bounce, creating a mattress that is engaging and with deep contour.

This mattress is great for sex because of the high bounce, 10.64″ total, as well as the great edge support, with 4.0″ of sinkage when seated directly at the edge of the mattress. It is 12.0″ thick, with 6.0″ of that being reserved for the comfort layer. This gives the mattress exceptional pressure relief and a very comfortable mattress for sex. The Nest Bedding Sparrow earned a 9.9 / 10 in our sex score.

There are three firmnesses available on the Sparrow—plush (3.5), medium (5), or firm (8). You can also opt for split firmness on the Sparrow, choosing a different firmness for each side of the mattress.

The Sparrow mattress has a performance score of 9.20 overall, which ranks it in the top 13% of all mattresses we’ve tested to date.

This mattress costs 35% more than the average hybrid mattress, $1,812 for a queen. But considering the performance benefits, the Sparrow is a fantastic option.

Our Verdict

The Awara natural luxury hybrid is a 10″ thick organic hybrid mattress made of natural Dunlop latex foam and pocketed coils.

It has very deep sinkage and very high levels of bounce. Despite the deeper sinkage, this mattress maintains a generalized level of contour, as is typical for many latex mattresses.

This mattress is fantastic for sex largely because of its extremely high bounce levels—15.79″ total, which is also the highest bounce level of any mattress featured in this guide. That being said, the Awara is a latex hybrid and has a very distinct feel. The same materials that make it great for sex may not be the right feel for all sleepers’ preferences. The Awara earned a 9.8 / 10 in our sex score.

The Awara has a medium-firm feel, around 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale (where 10 is the most firm).

In our performance tests, Awara scores a 9.26, which is above the average mattress score and also ranks it in the top 10% of all mattresses we’ve tested to date.

Beyond performance alone, this mattress is only $1,099, 38% less than the average latex hybrid, also making it cheaper than 90% of all other latex hybrids. Price and performance combined, the Awara is a fantastic choice for a natural mattress that is great for sex.

Our Verdict

The Avocado Eco is another 10″ thick latex hybrid option made with latex foam and pocketed coils.

Like the Awara, the Avocado Eco also has deep levels of sinkage and very high levels of bounce (actually 30% more bounce than the Awara). This is one of the highest levels of bounce we’ve tested of any mattress to date.

As you might expect, the bounce is a huge factor in the high sex performance, as bounce is worth 65% of the score.

This mattress comes in a single firmness (6 out of 10) with a medium-firm feel.

In our performance test, the Avocado Eco has an overall score of 9.26, exactly the same score as the Awara listed above.

The Avocado loses some points for value since it offers the same score as the Awara, but at a higher price point ($1,299 for a queen-size mattress). But if you’re looking for more bounce than Awara, the Avocado Eco may be the better pick.
