Best Mattress Canada: We Test 105+ Mattresses Available In Canada

Derek Hales

Written by: Derek Hales

Updated On:

While Canada does share a border with the US, shopping for a Canadian mattress is not always the same as shopping for a mattress in the US. Duties, customs, and territorial regulations can make it hard to know where to find the best mattress in Canada.

Best Mattress

In this guide, we hope to clear up some of the confusion, as we highlight the 8 best mattresses in Canada. All of the mattresses we’re recommending are made in Canada, so there will be no issues with importing, currency conversion, or shipping.

Our Testing & Selection Process

Data Points Tested

Tested Mattresses Made In Canada

Each best list is put through a customized performance analysis with specialized consideration given to our objective & data-driven performance tests. In addition, we consider mattress type, design, materials, value, price, and more.

Performance Categories

For our Best Canada Mattress list, we based our selections on the mattresses made in Canada with the highest scores, according to our battery of testing and formulaic driven scoring.

These tests analyze performance across 8 critical factors, including cooling, motion transfer, response time, edge support, sex, pressure relief, off-gassing, and company. In addition, we also test sinkage and bounce (though these are not scoring factors).

Our tests include objective and quantifiable data whenever possible. In addition, we use subjective assessment supported by data to round out our testing process.

Our scores are based on mathematical formulas and equations that utilize inputs from our data-driven testing.

You can see our complete testing and scoring process here.

In choosing the best Canadian mattresses we looked at the totality of all of our tests, scores, data, and reviews to date. We analyzed this data alongside our established best mattress framework here.

Mattresses that are featured in this list were made in Canada and had a performance score cut-off of 8.62 or higher.

A few mattresses with a performance score above this threshold were still excluded from this list. Although these mattresses did surpass the performance cut-off, they were excluded based on brand alone, as all of these mattresses already have a different mattress from the same brand that performed better.

There are over 100 mattresses currently tested to date that are available in Canada, but manufactured in the USA. For this list, these mattresses have been excluded as we wanted to focus our recommendations on the mattresses made in Canada (or imported by the brand and sold through a Canadian company) to reduce headaches with shipping, importing, and currency conversion.

You can see the full list of all mattresses we’ve tested that are available in Canada here (sorted by score).

Our Verdict

The Douglas Summit is an all-foam mattress with a 12″ thickness and foam layers of gel foam, poly foam, and support foam.

It has minimal sinkage and low levels of bounce, which also contributes to the very low levels of motion transfer.

This mattress is available in a single firmness with a medium-firm feel (6 out of 10). It is well-suited for a wide range of sleeper preferences.

In our performance test, the Douglas Summit excelled in all categories making it an all-around fantastic mattress. In our tests, it earned a score of 9.35 which makes it the highest-performing foam mattress that we’ve tested to date (for both US and Canada).

The Douglas Summit is priced at C$1299 for a queen, which is notably less than the average price for mattresses available in Canada that we’ve tested (C$1,802). Overall, this is a solid option for a balanced feel and high-scoring performance.

#4 Top-Scoring Foam Mattress

The Douglas Original is a budget-friendly alternative to the Douglas Summit and is among the best-performing foam mattresses.

The Douglas Original is only C$799 for a queen, a savings of C$500 from the Douglas Summit.

You give up 1″ of comfort material, as the Douglas Original is only 10″ high, but performance is still exceptional.

While this may not be suitable for heavier sleepers, it’s a good option worth considering for many.

Why It’s Best

The Ghostbed Luxe is an all-foam mattress with a 13″ profile, combining memory foam, poly foam, and a support foam base.

It has extremely deep levels of sinkage and moderate levels of bounce. For a side sleeper, this level of contour can be beneficial for excellent pressure relief and comfort, but it may not be ideal for all sleepers.

The GhostBed Luxe is only available in a single firmness with a medium-firm feel, 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale.

This mattress has a performance score of 9.19 overall, which ranks it in the top 14% among all mattresses we’ve tested to date. Specifically looking at memory foam mattresses, the GhostBed Luxe is the #1 top performing memory foam mattress tested to date.

The Ghostbed Flex mattress is 23% more than the average hybrid, $1,598 for a queen. That being said, like the others featured on this list, performance is also higher than average so you’re getting a higher-quality mattress.

Our Verdict

The Endy is a 10″ foam mattress that uses poly foam for comfort and support.

It has very minimal sinkage and very high levels of bounce. In addition, it creates a floating feel when lying on the mattress, as opposed to sinking down “in” the mattress.

Endy comes in a single firmness with a (7 out of 10) with a slightly firm feel. It has a moderate level of pushback and may not be right for sleepers looking for a deeper level of contour or hug.

But for more moderate-weighted bodies, especially back and stomach sleepers, the 10″ profile and slightly firm feel are ideal.

In our performance tests, Endy had an overall score of 8.98, ranking it in the top 25% of all mattresses tested to date. For a queen, the Endy only costs C$895 making it a fantastic value pick.

Our Verdict

The Simba Hybrid 2500 mattress is another great hybrid pick, made with poly foam, microcooils, a transitional poly foam, and a support foam base.

This mattress has a balanced feel with minimal sinkage and high levels of bounce, paired with extremely fast response time and extremely low levels of motion transfer.

It is available in a single firmness with a medium-firm feel (6 out of 10 on the firmness scale).

In our performance tests, the Simba Hybrid scored an 8.98 overall, which is in the top 25% of all mattresses tested to date. Priced at C$2,049 for a queen, it is modestly more expensive than the average (C$1,802).

The only real disadvantage to the Simba is the extremely limited return policy. With the Simba mattress, returns are not allowed, only exchanges, and all exchanges come with a $50 fee.

Considerations

  • Sex is excellent, but doesn’t rise to the “exceptional” level due to lower bounce

Our Verdict

The Octave Horizon is a 14″ all-foam mattress made with memory foam, latex foam, transitional gel foam, and a convoluted support foam base.

This mattress has moderate sinkage and low levels of bounce, much like the Douglas Summit featured above. It has a bit higher levels of motion transfer, but still retains a balanced feel.

This mattress has a medium feel (5 out of 10) and is available in a single firmness.

With a score of 8.95, the Horizon is the highest-performing Octave mattress based on our tests, scoring in the top 26% of all mattresses tested to date.

This mattress also has a price that is slightly less expensive than the average Canadian foam mattress—$1,499 for a queen-sized mattress.

Our Verdict

The Logan and Cove Choice mattress is a 12″ hybrid with well-rounded performance, 3″ of comfort foam, and 9″ of zoned support coils below.

It has a deep level of sinkage and high bounce, giving the mattress a very engaging and active feel. Motion transfer levels are moderate and materials have an extremely fast response time.

The Logan and Gove Choice comes in a single firmness with a medium-firm feel (6 out of 10), making it a good option for a wide range of sleepers.

This mattress has an overall performance score of 9.62, which puts it in the top 27% of all mattresses tested to date. Concerning price, it is only C$999 for a queen, making it nearly half the price of the average Canadian mattress we’ve tested (C$1,802).

Sleepers over 250 lbs. may want to use caution as it only has 3″ of comfort material and may cause pressure relief issues for sleepers beyond this weight. But for many other sleepers, the Logan and Cove is a fantastic value mattress.

16% Less Bounce

The Logan & Cove Frontier mattress has similar performance to the Choice, but also with notable differences.

It has lower levels of bounce and less sinkage when sitting on the mattress.

The Frontier uses a 1.0″ layer of microcoils within the comfort layer, which helps improve pressure relief.

In total, the Frontier has 4.5″ of comfort material and the Choice has only 3.0″.

This mattress is C$1299 compared to C$999 for the Choice, but if you want better pressure relief and more bounce, it can be a great pick.

26% Deeper Sinkage

The Polysleep Aura mattress is an alternative foam mattress you may want to consider alongside the Zephyr.

Compared to the Zephyr, the Aura has deeper surface sinkage as well as slightly higher levels of bounce (1.20″ more).

It’s a thinner mattress (11″ thick), which does lend itself to higher levels of motion transfer compared to the Zephyr. But bear in mind, the Aura also has a lower price tag.

Considering the cash saved, these disadvantages may be easier to overlook.

Our Verdict

The Casper Snow mattress is a 12″ hybrid that uses a combination of poly foam, memory foam feel, and pocketed coils for comfort and support.

This mattress was introduced as a high-performing hybrid with a focus on excellent cooling performance, integrating a phase-change cover as well as Casper’s Heat Delete bands, designed to limit heat retention.

It is a touch softer than many other mattresses in this list, with a medium feel (5 out of 10). This feel would be suitable for lighter sleepers, side sleepers, or those just looking for a slightly softer feel without sacrificing support.

In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 8.72, placing it in the top 47% of all mattresses tested to date.

For a queen-size mattress, the Snow costs C$2,999, which is considerably more than the average, but if you’re looking for excellent cooling and a slightly softer feel, the advantages could be worth the higher cost.

Our Verdict

The Silk and Snow mattress is a 12″ hybrid made of 2.0″ memory foam, pocketed coils, and a thin support foam base, and topped by a 1.0″ quilted cover.

This mattress has deep sinkage and moderate levels of bounce. Given its thinner comfort layer and deep sinkage, it is best suited for lighter to moderate-weight sleepers, as the thinner profile may not be supportive enough for heavier sleepers.

It is available in one firmness with a medium-firm feel (6 out of 10 on the firmness scale).

The overall performance is 8.43, ranking the Silk and Snow Hybrid in the top 72% of all mattresses tested to date. A queen is only C$900, well below the average, so where this mattress doesn’t shine for performance, it compensates with the value price.

Silk and Snow is far from a perfect mattress. Cooling left something to be desired and off-gassing was quite strong. Even so, when we consider the price point it really is a fantastic value for the money.
