Nectar

Type: Memory Foam

Leesa

Type: Combo Foam or Hybrid

Our Verdict

In the case of Nectar vs. Leesa, both of these brands offer high-performing mattresses. Leesa offers combo foam or hybrid mattresses, while Nectar sticks to memory foam blends.

This gives Nectar the feeling of more traditional memory foam (slower response and less bounce) and gives Leesa a little more of an active sleeping surface (more bounce and faster response time). The contouring hug is also more dramatic on Nectar mattresses compared to Leesa.

Firmness levels between these brands fall between 5.0 – 6.5 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm.

At a high level here’s how I break them down.

Need the coolest mattress? Go with Leesa’s Sapira Hybrid. It was the coolest across our tests. It was the best scoring Leesa mattress we tested.

The most budget-friendly option? Go with the original Nectar or Leesa Studio. Nectar has a more traditional memory foam feel, while Leesa’s Studio is more responsive.

Want memory foam hug? Go with Nectar Premier or Nectar Premier Copper. They have a classic memory foam feel, but still manage fast response and good cooling. For my money, I’d go with the Premier Copper, it was the best scoring Nectar we tested.

Need a balanced feel? Go with the original Leesa. It has good performance with a more balanced feel across most many categories.

Want a softer feel? Go with the Leesa Legend or Nectar Premier Copper. They are the softest options available from Leesa and Nectar, making them great for side sleepers and lighter weight sleepers (150 pounds or less).

Performance Tests

At NapLab, we put each mattress to the test.

We score 10 different factors that impact the comfort, feel, and value of the mattress. Testing categories include:

In addition to these 8 factors, we also look at sinkage levels and bounce. Because these are often preferential factors and not necessarily good or bad, these two factors do not have a numerical score listed above.

The table below shows the data we generated to determine the scores for these mattresses. Sinkage and bounce are also noted below.

The Leesa Sapira Hybrid scored best overall, as well as having the best cooling, most bounce, tying for best edge support and best sex, and best pressure relief.

The Leesa Legend had the least amount of sinkage, fastest response time, and tying for best for sex.

Although exact prices aren’t listed here, the Leesa Studio would be considered the best budgets, for having the lowest price tag among all mattresses in this comparison. Check the current price here.

The Nectar Original performed most like traditional memory foam with the slowest response time and the least amount of bounce.

The Nectar Premier had the most sinkage and the Nectar Premier Copper earned a badge for the least amount of motion transfer.

All Nectar mattresses had a better company score than Leesa, boasting a longer trial period (365 nights) and longer warranty (lifetime).

Cooling Test

The cooling performances of Leesa and Nectar had some range in performance.

  • Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
  • Ending Temperature (after 5 minutes) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

The mattress with the best cooling is the Leesa Sapira Hybrid, which uses a blend of foam types as well as a pocketed coils base. These materials are known for better cooling performance, over 100% foam mattresses (especially memory foams).

The other Leesas, as well as the Nectar Premier and Premier Copper, had slightly lower cooling performance scores, but were still very good.

Again, the combination of mixed foams really helps Leesa. In addition, the Leesa Legend is actually a hybrid so the mattress has coils working in its favor with the cooler foams.

The Nectar Original has a more classic memory foam approach, which makes it a little warmer than the other options.

Edge Support Test

Edge support was an area of struggle for all of these mattresses.

Nectar Premier Copper8.46.25″Excellent

The average level of sinkage (when sitting right at the edge of the mattress) is 4.67″.

Every mattress in this lineup had more sinkage than average. Poorer edge support isn’t always that uncommon for foam-based mattresses, but we usually like to see improved performance from hybrids (ie: Leesa Sapira Hybrid and Leesa Legend).

Despite the worse support while sitting directly at the edge, the lying support was still excellent on most of these mattresses.

The only mattress that really struggled with both sitting and lying support was the Nectar Original mattress.

Sex Test

Here’s a look at our sex formula:

Sex Score Formula = (Bounce * 0.5) + (Edge Support * 0.2) + (Noise * 0.2) + (Sinkage * 0.05) + (Cooling * 0.05)

We use the following scores, plugged into the formula, to derive a sex score for each mattress.

Sex TestSex ScoreBounceEdge SupportNoisePressure ReliefCooling
Leesa Sapira Hybrid9.6108.49.01010
Leesa Legend9.6108.89.09.59.5
Leesa Original9.49.58.8109.59.5
Leesa Studio9.09.18.1109.59.5
Nectar8.88.78.4109.59.0
Nectar Premier9.19.37.9109.59.5
Nectar Premier Copper8.98.88.4109.59.5

Nectar vs. Leesa—which mattress is best for sex? According to our performance tests, the best option would be Leesa. The Leesa Sapira Hybrid, Leesa Legend, and Leesa Original performed all three Nectar mattresses.

Nectar wasn’t particularly bad for sex, but Leesa delivered higher levels of bounce, better edge support in some cases, and better cooling as well. The Nectar mattresses definitely have a more memory-foam feel, which is oftentimes marked by a slower response time, lower levels of bounce, and more hug / contour.

Pressure Relief Test

Talking about pressure relief, the Leesa Sapira Hybrid takes the win here. This mattress has a thick comfort layer, fantastic support coils, and a nice balanced feel.

Pressure Relief TestScoreComfort LayerSupport Layer
Leesa Sapira Hybrid104.0″7.0″
Leesa Legend9.54.5″7.0″

Leesa Studio9.53.0″7.0″
Nectar9.55.0″7.0″
Nectar Premier9.56.0″7.0″
Nectar Premier Copper9.55.0″9.0″

That being said, the other Leesa models, as well as all of the Nectar mattresses were not that far behind in score. All of these mattresses really excelled in pressure relief and offered fantastic performance.

Off-Gassing Test

Moving along, let’s talk about off-gassing. All of these mattresses had moderate to strong smells right out of the box. The time it took for each smell to dissipate varied—ranging from 3-6 days.

Off-Gassing TestScoreInitial SmellOff-Gassing Period
Leesa Sapira Hybrid9.5Strong6 days
Leesa Legend9.7Strong4 days
Leesa Original9.8Strong3 days
Leesa Studio9.7Strong4 days
Nectar9.7Moderate4 days
Nectar Premier9.7Strong4 days
Nectar Premier Copper9.8Strong3 days

This time frame is slightly longer than average. The average time for off-gassing is 2.8 days. Off-gassing may be more of an issue for sensitive sleepers, but in most cases, once a mattress has completed off-gassing, it’s not a problem.

To speed up off-gassing, unbox the mattress and immediately put it in a well-ventilated space with a fan or air purifier running in the room. Leave the mattress uncovered (without any bedding) for the fastest results.

Your new mattress will be ready to enjoy in just a couple of days.

Company

Comparing Nectar vs. Leesa at a company level, Nectar is the clear winner. Nectar offers a longer trial (over 3X as long) and a lifetime warranty. Leesa only offers a 10-year warranty.

Which Mattress Should You Buy?

So you’ve made it to the end—still stumped about which mattress is right for you? Check out the quick summaries below:

Should You Buy the Leesa Sapira Hybrid?

I would recommend the Leesa Sapira Hybrid if you’re looking for:

  • Fantastic cooling. The cooling performance on the Leesa Sapira Hybrid was notably the best. The mixture of different foam types as well as the coil base really keep this mattress cool and comfortable.
  • Most bounce. This mattress also generated the most bounce, which also improved sex performance and pressure relief as well.

Click here to learn more or to check the price of the Leesa Sapira Hybrid mattress.

Should You Buy the Leesa Legend?

I would recommend the Leesa Legend if you’re looking for:

  • Least sinkage. The Legend has the least amount of sinkage, despite having the softest feel.
  • Fastest response time. This mattress also has the fastest response time, which is nice if you’re looking for a mattress that quickly moves with you and avoids any type of “stuck” feeling.

Click here to learn more or to check the price of the Leesa Legend mattress.

Should You Buy the Leesa Original?

I would recommend the Leesa Original if you’re looking for:

  • Good value. The Leesa Original was the first mattress from Leesa and remains as their flagship model, so to speak. For well-rounded performance and good value, the Original is a solid pick.

Click here to learn more or to check the price of the Leesa Original mattress.

Should You Buy the Leesa Studio?

I would recommend the Leesa Studio if you’re looking for:

  • Best for budgets. The Leesa Studio is very similar to the Leesa Original, but with 1.0″ less comfort foam. That being said if you want performance like the original, but at a lower price, the Leesa Studio can be a good option to consider.
  • Lower profile. Both the Leesa Original and Leesa Studio have only a 10″ profile.

Click here to learn more or to check the price of the Leesa Studio mattress.

Should You Buy the Nectar Original?

I would recommend the Nectar Original if you’re looking for:

  • Slower response. The response time of the Nectar Original is the slowest of all mattresses tested here. If you like a mattress to have more hug and deeper contour, the Nectar could accomplish that.
  • Least bounce. Because of the properties of the memory foam, the Nectar Original also has the least amount of bounce.

Click here to learn more or to check the price of the Nectar Original mattress.

Should You Buy the Nectar Premier?

I would recommend the Nectar Premier if you’re looking for:

  • Most sinkage. The Nectar Premier has the most sinkage but still retained good cooling performance. If you like sinking into a mattress more, the Premier could be a good pick for you.
  • Higher profile. The Nectar Premier also has a thicker profile than that of the Nectar Original or Leesa foam mattresses. If you don’t want coils, but want a thicker look, the Nectar Premier checks the box.

Click here to learn more or to check the price of the Nectar Premier mattress.

Should You Buy the Nectar Premier Copper?

I would recommend the Nectar Premier Copper if you’re looking for:

  • Less motion transfer. The Premier Copper had the least amount of motion transfer, among all mattresses tested in this comparison.
  • Higher profile. Similar to the Nectar Premier, the Premier Copper also has a higher profile than the Leesa mattresses.

FAQ

What mattress is similar to Leesa?

Other top-performing foam mattresses similar to Leesa include: GhostBed Classic, Nest Bedding Quail, Douglas, Nolah Original, or the Zoma Start.

What is comparable to Nectar?

Nectar produces memory foam mattresses or hybrid mattresses. Similar alternatives include: GhostBed Luxe, Loom & Leaf, Ashley Gruve, or Amerisleep AS3.

Can I sleep on my mattress right away?

With any compressed and rolled mattress, it is best to allow 1-2 days for the mattress to fully expand before sleeping on it. This rule would apply to both Nectar and Leesa. Because of the support from coils, you can usually sleep on hybrid mattresses sooner.
