Our Verdict

In today’s comparison of DreamCloud vs. Saatva, we’re looking at the top three DreamCloud’s compared to the Saatva Classic and Memory Foam Hybrid.

DreamCloud offers a luxury hybrid design with foam and coils, while the Saatva Classic has the choice between a traditional coil-on-coil mattress or a hybrid with coil and memory foam.

Both of these companies have good quality mattresses, but the Saatva is certainly a bit more high-end. It offers better cooling, a faster response time, and excellent pressure relief.

DreamCloud comes in at a lower price tag, but has a few setbacks like poorer edge support and slower response time overall.

Performance Tests

To assess the performance test of each mattress, we look at nine different factors. A mix of objective and subjective data helps to score and rank each mattress.

Testing categories include:

  1. Cooling
  2. Sinkage
  3. Motion Transfer
  4. Response
  5. Bounce
  6. Edge Support
  7. Sex
  8. Pressure Relief
  9. Off-Gassing

Cooling Test

For cooling, the Saatva Classic takes the win. You can see a full assessment of all cooling data in the table below.

Cooling TestScoreBaselineMax TempEnding Temp

Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid1078.0°89.4°-8.1°
  • Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
  • Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
  • Ending Temperature (after 5 minutes) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

When we’re talking about cooling, it’s important to consider data outside of just the temperatures in the table above.

For example…

While the max temp of the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid is technically lower, the cooling performance of the Saatva Classic and Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid are both better than Dreamcloud, in my view.

This takes the subjective analysis of each mattress into consideration. When lying on the Saatvas, they both seem to breathe significantly better than the Dreamcloud mattresses.

The coil-on-coil construction allows maximum airflow and helps to keep the surface comfortable. By the same token, the foam Saatva is breathable and ultra-responsive so heat retention just isn’t a problem here.

During our tests of the Dreamcloud, I had a sensation of greater warming and heat retention. The top layers of foam simply feel denser and feel warmer over time.

Compare the Models

Below, you can watch a video of how the heat dissipates on each mattress during our cooling test. For this test, we lie on the mattress for 15 minutes, get off the mattress, and then take periodic surface-level temperature measurements.

Sinkage Test

The level of sinkage for each mattress is documented in the images and table below.

The sinkage levels between the DreamCloud and the Saatva mattress are all fairly similar (excluding DreamCloud original).

However, the Dreamcloud Luxury Hybrid is by far the deepest sinkage at 3.02″. It is among the most deep sinkage we’ve tested to date.

The mattress with the most amount of sinkage in this lineup is the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid at 3.02″.

With the least amount of sinkage, comes the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid, with 1.88″ of sinkage and the DreamCloud Premier at 1.94″. This is a little more than 1.0″ less sinkage than the original DreamCloud.

The Saatva Classic falls somewhere in the middle of this range at 2.40″ sinkage depth.

For reference, I would describe moderate sinkage to be between 2.0 to 2.3″.

For the most part, all of these mattresses are right around those sinkage depths. The DreamCloud original pushes it quite a bit further at 3.02″. It is the only mattress here that I would say you really need to like a deeper level of sinkage.

All of the other mattresses are within the moderate range or very near it so they shouldn’t be problematic for most sleepers.

Motion Transfer Test

Motion transfer is an important testing category to consider, especially for couples. You can see the full chart below of how the comparison went between DreamCloud vs. Saatva.

Motion Transfer TestScoreAcc. Range
Dreamcloud9.95.60 m/s²
Dreamcloud Premier9.85.67 m/s²
Dreamcloud Premier Rest102.62 m/s²
Saatva Classic9.85.86 m/s²
Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid8.710.11 m/s²

Overall, both DreamCloud and Saatva had good scores. All scores fell between 9.7 and a perfect 10 with the one exception being the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid.

The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid had 10.11 m/s² of motion, which is about 2X all of the other mattresses.

Furthermore, I have to highlight the motion transfer of the DreamCloud Premier Rest. On the Premier Rest, Motion transfer is 2.62 m/s² which is about half the levels of any of the other three mattresses we tested—75% less than the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid.

The average amount of motion transfer we typically see (average across all mattresses tested to date) is 6.02 m/s².

All of the mattresses tested here have less motion transfer than average, excluding the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid.

The full videos of the motion transfer are included below:

The graphs below show a quantifiable version of motion transfer based on accelerometer data.

Saatva motion transfer graph

As you can see in the graph, the DreamCloud and Saatva Classic have pretty similar levels of motion detected initially, but the mattress’s response to the motion is where the difference really comes into play.

Despite being coil, the Saatva really does a fantastic job of absorbing the motion and for the most part, it is gone by 0.3 seconds.

For comparison, motion transfer on the DreamCloud continues until a little past 0.7 seconds, when it sharply drops off.

Response Test

Considering the response times, there is a pretty big range between DreamCloud and Saatva. You can see the full detail set in the table below.

Response TestScoreMostly RecoveredCompletely Recovered
Dreamcloud5.55.0 seconds6.0 seconds
Dreamcloud Premier9.60.9 seconds1.5 seconds
Dreamcloud Premier Rest6.83.7 seconds4.5 seconds
Saatva Classic100.4 seconds0.8 seconds
Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid100.3 seconds1.0 seconds

The mattress with the slowest response time is the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid at 6.0 seconds for complete recovery.

At the opposite end of the spectrum is Saatva. Both the Saatva Classic and Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid were mostly recovered between 0.3-0.4 seconds and fully recovered by 0.8-1.0 seconds.

Our average response time across all mattresses tested to date is 0.94 seconds for complete recovery.

Both Saatva mattresses have average response and all DreamCloud mattresses respond slower than average.

A slower response can result in sleepers feeling “stuck” or “entrapped” by the foams. In contrast, a faster response adapts more quickly to changes in sleeping position. It also makes the mattress easier to move around.

A closer visual of the level of responsiveness for each mattress is documented in the videos below.

Bounce Test

Looking at bounce is a bit of a preferential factor, but the data below does help to show a good picture of the performance of each mattress.

When dropping the same weighted medicine ball onto the mattress, the DreamCloud Premier Rest has the lowest level of bounce at 7.88″.

Both the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid and the DreamCloud Premier had a bit more, but not by a drastic margin. Both of those mattresses were right around 11″, about 25% more than the former mattresses listed.

Both Saatvas, the Saatva Classic and the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid, have extremely high bounce.

Edge Support Test

When considering edge support, a coil-based mattress is usually going to perform better than most foam-based mattresses.

Check out the table below for a sinkage summary of all DreamCloud vs. Saatva mattresses that we’ve tested to date:

The level of edge support on the original DreamCloud vs. Saatva Classic is documented in the images below.

Saatva – Sitting

Saatva edge support

As you can see, the sinkage from the Saatva Classic was much better than the DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid. The Saatva is able to support my core and legs, keeping shape and limiting excessive contour.

For comparison, the sinkage on the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid was pretty consistent with the performance of the Saatva Classic. It sank down slightly more to 3.5″ at the edge and had exceptional lying support.

In the images above, you can see how the support varies between the DreamCloud Premier and the Premier Rest. Between the two, the Premier is the clear winner as the Premier Rest allows for 46% more sinkage than on the Premier.

The 5″ of point sinkage when sitting on the edge of the Premier Rest is more than I’d generally like to see. It just makes the edge of the mattress feel unsupportive and not great for sitting for long periods of time.

Sex Test

Our sex rating formula looks at 5 different factors weighted based on their importance.

sex percent chart

All factors are not equal in terms of significance, but each plays an important role.

Through our tests, we subjectively assigned the following percentages to each category within the overall sex score:

  • Bounce: 60%
  • Edge Support: 20%
  • Noise: 10%
  • Pressure Relief: 5%
  • Cooling: 5%
Sex TestSex ScoreBounceEdge SupportNoisePressure ReliefCooling

Dreamcloud Premier Rest9.39.58.8109.08.5
Saatva Classic9.910109.01010
Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid9.8109.89.09.510

Overall, the Saatva Classic (9.9) ranks #1 for the best mattress for sex with the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid (9.8) and DreamCloud Premier (9.8) following close behind.

All of these mattresses have great bounce, cooling, good edge support, and fantastic pressure relief.

The DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid (9.7) is a close runner-up behind Saatva with slightly worse cooling and poorer edge support.

Last, in this lineup, we’ve got the DreamCloud Premier Rest, coming in around 9.3. The main struggles here were poorer edge support, poorer cooling, and less bounce than the other mattresses tested here.

Pressure Relief Test

The next category on our list is pressure relief. Pressure relief is the ability of a mattress to fully support the body and effectively relieve pressure. Especially along the spine, hips, shoulder, and neck, pressure relief is hugely important.

Poor pressure relief can lead to painful spots along these sensitive areas.

Saatva - sinkage (body weight)
Saatva – sinkage (body weight)

When we’re evaluating pressure relief, we’re considering a number of factors, but two of the most important include the thickness of the comfort layer and the thickness of the overall mattress.

Generally, we want to see at least 3.0″ of comfort material and at least 9-10″ of mattress thickness (for adults).

Here is a quick look at the pressure relief of the DreamCloud vs. Saatva.

Pressure Relief TestScoreComfort LayerSupport Layer

Dreamcloud Premier Rest9.06.5″9.5″
Saatva Classic104.5″7.0″
Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid9.52.5″9.0″

Pressure relief between these two brands is interesting. Technically, DreamCloud offers a thicker comfort layer and a thicker profile, but subjectively it’s just not as good as Saatva, in my opinion.

DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid

DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid material layers

Saatva Classic

I think it’s a combination of material quality, compression, and coil resistance that all combine to create the full pressure relief experience.

While DreamCloud is good, Saatva is great. And this remains true for both the Saatva Classic as well as the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid.

Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid material layers
Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid material layers

On the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid, there is only 2.5″ of comfort materials, but the pressrue relief is still superior to DreamCloud in my opinion.

Off-Gassing Test

Both the Saatva and DreamCloud mattresses have low odor out of the box. As expected, the minor smell on the DreamCloud doesn’t last long at all.

DesignType

Saatva ClassicCoil
Saatva Memory Foam HybridHybrid

The Saatva Classic uses a dual-layer coil-on-coil construction with a plush Euro cover on top.

By comparison, the DreamCloud mattresses as well as the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid are hybrids that combine foams with pocketed coils for a balanced feel. They offer many pros of foam, but without the cons since they include a coil base.

The advantages of foam mattresses include: great pressure relief, quieter for sex, and in this case more bounce. This is not always the case with foam compared to coils… in fact, it’s a bit of an anomaly.

DreamCloud vs. Saatva: Which Should You Buy?

So you’ve made it this far—still not sure which mattress is best for you: DreamCloud vs. Saatva? Here are some quick summaries to help decide which mattress is best.

Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid cover photo

The original Saatva Classic mattress is best for just about any type of sleeper. It’s available in 3 firmnesses, so there are plenty of options for all preferences. It’s also available in regular and HD, which makes it good for weights up to 500 pounds. In terms of performance, it just nails it across the board. Saatva scored perfect 10s in 5 out of 8 categories and is the highest-rated mattress out of all mattresses we’ve tested to date.

Read our full Saatva mattress review.

Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid foam cutout

The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid mattress is best for sleepers who want a minimal sinkage with an extremely fast response time, an dhigh bounce. It has exceptional cooling, excellent edge support, and excellent pressure relief.

Motion transfer is moderate, but overall this memory foam hybrid is a win for many cateogries.

DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid cover photo

The DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid mattress is best for sleepers who want a budget-friendly hybrid. For the most part, the original DreamCloud mattress scored well. It’s most significant weak spot is the incredibly slow response time. As long as you don’t mind the slow response time, performance in the other categories was pretty solid, especially at this price point.

Read our full DreamCloud Luxury Hybrid mattress review.

DreamCloud Premier mattress

The DreamCloud Premier mattress is best for for sleepers who want a budget-friendly hybrid, with better performance than the original Dreamcloud. The DreamCloud Premier is slightly weaker when it comes to cooling and motion transfer compared to the original DreamCloud. However, it’s got a massively faster response time, better edge support, and it’s better for sex.

DreamCloud Premier Rest mattress side

The DreamCloud Premier Rest mattress is best for …honestly, I’m not sure. The DreamCloud Premier Rest scored worse than the DreamCloud Premier in 3 out of 8 categories. It scored the same in 4 out of 8 categories and was only better in 1 out of 8 categories. In my view, the DreamCloud Premier is the better overall mattress. For the vast majority of sleepers, I would recommend it over the DreamCloud Premier Rest.

FAQ

Who is DreamCloud owned by?

DreamCloud is owned by the parent company, Resident. Resident is the same company that owns the sister brand, Nectar.

Do Saatva mattresses sag over time?

Any mattress is capable of sagging over time, but the high quality of Saatva materials and the use of foam + coils both help to limit any sagging.

For even better performance, try the Saatva HD which has a firmer feel and is more resistant to sagging.

Is DreamCloud soft or firm?

All DreamCloud mattresses that we have tested fall between 6 – 7 on the firmness scale, which is a medium to medium firm mattress.
