Our Verdict

Both Casper and Saatva offer good performance and value, depending on what exactly you’re looking for.

Casper has 7 different mattresses, a blend of all-foam and hybrid options while Saatva has only 5 different options (with with a wider range of mattress types offered). Saatva is also the parent brand behind the Loom & Leaf, a luxury memory foam mattress, as well as Zenhaven’s latex mattress.

For the best average performance, Saatva takes the win with an average performance score of 9.77. But the average price per mattress is also 23% more than the average Casper cost.

For an all-foam or balanced hybrid Casper has some good options, but for a luxury feel, latex hybrid, or memory foam hybrid Saatva takes the win here.

This guide highlights the most important factors in determining if Casper or Saatva offers the right mattress for you.

For the highest levels of bounce, opt for the Saatva Classic or Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid, both of which have significantly higher levels of bounce than average.

Sex Test

This part of our scoring looks at the expected sex performance based on a number of performance factors.

The best mattresses for sex have high bounce, good edge support, quiet materials, and good pressure relief and cooling.

These 5 factors make up the NapLab sex performance score and from these factors, we can generate a sex score for each mattress.

Casper Original Hybrid Edge Sitting
Casper Original Hybrid Edge Sitting

The table below shows how sex performance varies between Casper and Saatva mattresses.

Sex TestSex ScoreBounceEdge SupportNoisePressure ReliefCooling

Saatva Classic9.910109.01010
Saatva Latex Hybrid101010109.59.5
Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid9.8109.89.09.510

Looking at this data, we can see that all mattresses tested within this comparison perform better than average regarding sex.

For the absolute best performance, you can’t beat the Saatva Latex Hybrid mattress, which earned a 10 out of 10. This mattress has high levels of bounce paired with exceptional edge support as well. These two factors alone make up 80% of the sex score.

Saatva Latex Hybrid Sitting

Pressure Relief Test

Pressure relief is an important part of how a sleeper engages with a mattress. Comparing Casper and Saatva, we found both brands to have good performance in this area, but technically Saatva is the better performer.

The pressure relief average for Casper is 9.33 and the Saatva average is 9.66 out of 10.

Pressure Relief TestScoreComfort LayerSupport Layer
Casper Original9.03.5″7.0″
Casper Original Hybrid9.53.5″7.0″
Casper Snow9.53.0″9.0″
Saatva Classic104.5″7.0″
Saatva Latex Hybrid9.54.0″8.0″
Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid9.52.5″9.0″

Again, we do see one outlier, the Casper Original, which only has a pressure relief score of 9.0 despite having the same thickness of comfort materials as many other mattresses featured here.

The Saatva Classic scored a perfect 10 out of 10 for pressure relief.

For comparison, the average level of comfort material across all mattresses tested to date is 4.19″.

The Saatva Classic is the only mattress that offers more comfort material than average, but the other mattresses still maintained good scores in this category.

Off-Gassing Test

Off-gassing is strong on Casper mattresses, and non-existent on Saatva mattresses.

Off-Gassing TestScoreInitial SmellOff-Gassing Period
Casper Original8.8Strong15 days
Casper Original Hybrid8.8Strong15 days
Casper Snow9.4Strong7 days
Saatva Classic10None0 days
Saatva Latex Hybrid10None0 days
Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid10None0 days

The big difference-maker here is that Saatva mattresses are shipped uncompressed. Casper mattresses are compressed and vacuum-rolled before shipping.

During the shipping process, gases from the mattress can build up and take a little time to fully dissipate once you unbox the mattress at its final destination.

The average off-gassing period is 5 days. Casper mattresses take between 7 – 15 days to fully off-gas.

If you’re sensitive to strong odors, Saatva would certainly be the best choice in this category.

Company

Saatva has a longer trial and longer warranty than Casper.

CompanyCasperSaatva

For comparison, the average trial length is 165 nights. Regarding the warranty, only 27% of the mattresses we’ve tested (over 192+ tested to date) have lifetime warranties. The average of the other 73% is 14 years.

Casper Snow Logo

Again, this gives Saatva the advantage for this category as well.

Firmness

Looking at all available mattresses, Casper ranges in firmness from 4.5 to 6.5 out of 10 (if we include all available Casper models). Saatva mattresses range from 4 to 8 out of 10.

Support & Sleeping Positions

Considering support, both Casper and Saatva make supportive mattresses. They use high-quality materials, offering a variety of supportive mattress types with varying feels.

If you’re looking for something softer, the Casper Nova Hybrid or the Saatva Classic (soft) would be the best options to achieve that softer feel. These mattresses would be good picks for lightweight sleepers or those who sleep on their side and enjoy a bit more contour.

Both brands offer a wide range of options within the medium to medium firm feel including the Casper, Casper Original, Casper Original Hybrid, Casper Snow, and Casper Wave Hybrid. From Saatva we have the Saatva Classic (luxury firm), Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid, and Saatva RX.

For a slightly firmer feel, the Casper Select or Saatva Latex Hybrid may be solid options, both of which have a firmness of 6.5 out of 10. Either of these picks would be good for moderate-weighted sleepers who prefer to sleep on their back or stomach.

The Saatva Classic (firm version) is the sole mattress from either brand with a firm 8 out of 10 firmness (where 10 is the most firm). It’s best for back and stomach sleepers, but not side sleepers.

Heavyweight sleepers could also consider the Saatva HD, a mattress specifically designed for sleepers over 300 lbs.

Not sure which firmness is right for you?

Use the table below to better determine the firmness range that may be best suited for you, based on your personal weight and preferred sleeping position.
