Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Pro Hybrid

Type: Memory Foam Hybrid
Firmness: Medium-Firm (6)
The Brooklyn Bedding CopperFlex Pro Hybrid is a 14.5″ thick hybrid that earns the spot for best value pick. This mattress is made of poly foam, memory foam, pocketed coils, and support foam, with a cooling cover. It has fantastic performance all-around, with its only real disadvantage being worse sex performance (due to lower levels of bounce). This hybrid comes in at $999 for a queen mattress.
Best Hybrid Mattress
Hybrid mattresses typically contain multiple layers of foam on top of a tall coil unit. The balanced feel that hybrids create makes them a strong best mattress contender for combination sleepers, couples, and any sleeper who simply wants a great all-around mattress.
Hybrids with more memory foam typically have deeper contour and better pressure relief while hybrids with more latex foam typically have more bounce and better cooling. Hybrids that use a combination of foam types or poly foam tend to have a more balanced feel.
The best hybrid mattresses have exceptional performance with a supportive coil base and a fantastic foam comfort layer, although the exact feel of each hybrid will vary from one model to the next.
#1 Pick

Type: Hybrid
Firmness: Medium-Firm (6)

#2 Pick
Winkbed

As an added advantage, the Winkbed is also available in three firmness levels—Soft (4), Medium-Firm (6), and Slightly Firm (7). Most sleepers will be best served by the luxury firm version (which is a medium-firm feel). For a high-profile hybrid with deep sinkage and contour, the Winkbed is a solid option to consider.

Best Mattress for Side Sleepers
When thinking about the best mattress for side sleepers, we’re looking for mattresses that have a firmness between 4-6 out of 10 (where 10 is the most firm). This provides a soft to medium-firm feel, which is ideal for most side sleepers.
Mattresses with plush euro-covers or quilted covers are also good options as they provide that extra layer of contour and pressure relief to better hug the spine, hips, shoulders, and neck.
#1 Pick
Saatva Classic

Type: Coil
Firmness: Soft (4), Medium-Firm (6), Firm (8)
The Saatva Classic is our best mattress for side sleepers. It is technically a coil mattress, but contains a layer of foam-encased coils and is topped with a plush euro-style pillow-top cover. The Saatva has deep sinkage with good contour and extremely high levels of bounce (which greatly enhances sex). The plush cover provides hug for side sleepers and critical support to maintain spinal alignment. It comes in three firmness levels, making it a well-rounded top-rated mattress for a variety of body types.
#2 Pick
Winkbed

Type: Hybrid
Firmness: Soft (4), Medium-Firm (6), Slightly Firm (7)
The Winkbed is our overall winner, but also a top pick for side sleepers because of its robust 5.0″ comfort layer and exceptional performance. The deep sinkage helps contour side sleepers and maintain proper spinal alignment. It also scores a 10/10 for cooling, so the deeper sinkage doesn’t negatively affect sleep quality. As mentioned above, the Winkbed is a fantastic value with a price that is slightly above average, but a performance that is the highest we’ve tested to date among all mattresses tested.
#1 Value
Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid

Type: Hybrid
Firmness: Soft (4), Medium-Firm (6), Slightly Firm (7)
The Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid is a 12″ hybrid mattress that costs less than $1000 for a queen, making it our top-rated bed for best mattress for side sleepers by value. It comes in three firmness levels—soft (4), medium-firm (6), or firm (8). For side sleepers, the soft would be best for lighter-weighted sleepers and the medium-firm would be the better pick for other body types. This mattress has high bounce and minimal sinkage. It’s not going to have that deep contour like Saatva or Winkbed, but still maintains great pressure relief and spinal alignment for side sleepers.
Regarding latex mattresses – Although their performance is strong, we skipped over latex foam and latex hybrid mattresses for the best mattress for side sleeper category. These types of mattresses have a very polarizing feel and, in our view, don’t provide the best support and comfort experience for side sleepers compared to other mattress types.
That said, if you know you prefer the feel of latex please check out our best latex mattress guide here, which focuses exclusively on latex and latex hybrid mattresses.
See our guide here for more of the best mattresses for side sleepers.
Best Memory Foam Mattress
Memory foam mattresses utilize one or more layers of memory foam. These layers create a more dramatic body contouring hug around the unique shape of each sleeper. Memory foam mattresses can be the best mattress type for you if you prioritize low motion transfer, pressure relief, and body contouring hug.
There are two main types of memory foam mattresses—memory foam hybrids and all-foam memory foam mattresses.

Memory foam hybrids use one or more layers of memory foam on top of a layer of metal coils. By combining memory foam with coils these mattresses create a more balanced feel that is less polarizing than many all-foam memory foam mattresses. A memory foam hybrid can be the best mattress selection for you if you want the body-hugging contour of memory foam but also want better cooling, faster material responsiveness, and improved edge support.
Memory foam hybrids have an average performance score of 8.72 and an average price of $1,548. By comparison, an all-foam memory foam mattress has an average performance score of 8.18, but also a lower average price tag of only $1,178.
As memory foam hybrids outperform all-foam memory foam mattresses we prioritized our picks around memory foam hybrids. In our view, a memory foam hybrid gives sleepers everything they love about memory foam, but with fewer draw backs.
#1 Pick
Glacier Apex

Type: Memory Foam Hybrid
Firmness: Medium-Firm (6)
The Glacier Apex is the #1 best memory foam mattress we’ve tested to date. It is 14.25″ thick and has a robust 6.25″ comfort layer made of two layers of memory foam as well as a transitional poly foam layer above the pocketed coils. It’s a fantastic pick for sleepers looking for unmatched edge support and pressure relief. In addition, it has a medium-firm feel with exceptional cooling performance. For a memory foam feel without the heat retention, but with a below-average price tag, the Glacier Apex is the mattress to beat.
#2 Pick
Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid

Type: Memory Foam Hybrid
Firmness: Medium (5)
The Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid is the #2 best memory foam mattress we’ve tested to date. It has a medium feel (5 out of 10 firmness) and has above-average performance in 6 out of 8 scoring categories. It does have a slightly slower material response time and stronger off-gassing, but both of these are pretty typical downsides for most memory foam mattresses. The trade-off is the get deeper contour and lower levels of motion transfer. Overall, the AS3 is great mattress for those who want a more modern memory foam feel.
#1 Value
Nectar Classic

Type: Memory Foam
Firmness: Medium-Firm (6)
The Nectar Classic is the top pick for best memory foam mattress by value. It has a medium-firm feel and is 11.5″ thick. It does struggle with slower material response time and may not have enough pressure relief for heavier bodies, but for most sleepers, it should be sufficient. And the biggest advantage of the Nectar Classic has got to be the low price. Priced at only $649 for a queen, the Nectar Classic is priced 44% less than the average memory foam mattress. If you prefer the hybrid design, the Nectar Hybrid (review) is available for $150 more and offers slightly better performance compared to the all-foam Nectar Classic.
If you know you prefer an all-foam memory foam mattress, as opposed to a memory foam hybrid, we’ve got you covered. Below we’ve listed the all-foam best memory foam mattresses we’ve tested to date by score. You can find our complete list of all memory foam mattresses our experts tested here.

Best Mattress For Back Pain
For the best mattresses for back pain we’re looking for medium-firm or a slightly firm feel, exceptional pressure relief, and great or better edge support.
What causes back pain? Although back pain can come from many places, one of the most common causes is improper spinal alignment while sleeping. When your spine is not well supported due to a sagging mattress or too much sinkage this can cause and exacerbate back pain.
In addition, mattresses that fail to deliver adequate pressure relief can cause back pain simply due to a lack of comfort through insufficient comfort materials.
A proper mattress can help solve back pain issues by ensuring that your body achieves a neutral spinal alignment and the mattress doesn’t create pressure points.
#1 Pick
Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe

Type: Hybrid
Firmness: Soft (4), Medium-Firm (6), and Firm (8)
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe is a 13.25″ hybrid mattress and our top pick for best mattress for back pain. The Aurora Luxe has a poly foam comfort layer and a pocketed coil base. It’s available in three firmness levels—Soft (4), Medium-Firm (6), and Firm (8). Considering performance, this mattress ranks within the top 10% of all mattresses tested to date and within the top 5 hybrids. The medium-firm version is suitable for all sleeping positions, while the firm can be better for heavier weighted bodies, especially for back and stomach sleepers.
#2 Pick
Saatva Latex Hybrid

Type: Latex Hybrid
Firmness: Medium-Firm (6.5)
The Saatva Latex Hybrid is another highly rated mattress if you’re concerned about back pain. This mattress certainly has a higher price tag than the average latex hybrid (33% more than average, costing an extra $518 for a queen mattress). But it also offers performance that is well above average. It has a 3.0″ latex foam layer. If you’re looking for a mattress with less contour, but still great support, the Saatva Latex Hybrid is a great option to consider (especially for back or stomach sleepers).
#1 Value
Glacier Original

Type: Hybrid
Firmness: Medium-Firm (6)
The Glacier Original is a 12” hybrid that earns the title of Best Value Mattress for Back Pain. This mattress uses a combination of gel memory foam, poly foam, and pocketed coils, with a 1.0” quilted cover. It has a medium-firm feel and the materials are high quality to provide the right amount of push-back for sleepers struggling with back pain. This mattress is only $799, which is 41% less expensive than the average hybrid for a savings of over $500 on a queen-sized mattress.

Best Mattress for Heavy People
Plus-sized mattresses are designed to meet the needs of heavier-weighted bodies. The best mattresses for heavy people are equipped with thicker coils, higher-density foams, and more material for a taller total height.
The material and design features of plus-sized (sometimes called HD) mattresses enable better support and longevity tuned to the needs of heavy people.
If you are over 250 pounds and/or if have experienced more frequent sagging and body impressions that impact your comfort on other mattresses then you may benefit from a mattress for heavy people. The average plus-sized mattress costs $1,665, which is certainly on the highest-end of prices, but you’re also getting a better quality mattress (on average).
The ideal firmness for heavy people tends to be between 6-7 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm. This creates a nice balance comfort and support for sleepers over 250 lbs. without creating pressure points or sagging areas.

Priced at only $1,399 for a queen, the Big Fig is 13% less than the average plus-sized mattress, while still performing within the top 8% of all mattresses tested to date. This mattress also has a weight capacity of 550 lbs per side, for a total support weight of 1,100 lbs. Big Fig earns perfect scores for low levels of motion transfer and exceptional edge support.
If you’d like to see additional highly rated beds for bigger bodies, see our best mattress for heavy people list.
Best Natural & Organic Mattress
The best natural mattresses are usually built from one or more layers of natural latex. These mattresses are often organic, utilizing wool, cashmere, cotton, and other natural fibers within a quilted cover.
Latex has a polarizing feel. Some sleepers love it, and others not so much. Natural, organic, and latex can be the best mattress type for you if you prioritize natural materials, improved durability (due to the latex), a generalized body contouring hug, and you don’t mind the higher price.

For reference, we’ve included the average price of these mattress types (based on all of our tests):
Mattress Type | Average Price |
---|---|
Latex Hybrid | $1,577 |
All-Foam Latex | $1,740 |
All Mattress Types Combined | $1,363 |
In choosing the best natural and organic mattress, we prioritized latex hybrids over all-foam latex and other natural mattress types in our mattress rankings.
Latex hybrids are equipped with one or more layers of natural latex on top of a layer of metal coils. Latex hybrids combine the best attributes of latex foam within a hybrid configuration. Latex hybrids typically aren’t as heavy as an all-foam latex mattress can be.

In addition, they provide a far less polarizing feel compared to all-foam latex. A latex hybrid can be the best mattress type for you if you want the durability, responsiveness, and generalized body contour of latex, but you also want something less polarizing, less heavy, and less expensive compared to all-foam latex.
#1 Pick
Saatva Latex Hybrid

Type: Latex Hybrid
Firmness: Medium-Firm (6.5)
The Saatva Latex Hybrid is our top ranking mattress for the best natural mattress. The mattress is 12″ latex hybrid available in a single firmness—6.5 out of 10, with a medium-firm feel. For back or stomach sleepers, this is an ideal level of pushback. This mattress has a more generalized contour compared to many other hybrid mattresses and has minimal sinkage (1.85″). It ships uncompressed and with free white-glove delivery. In our performance tests, the Saatva ranks well across the board and has a price tag 28% more than the average latex hybrid we’ve tested.
#2 Pick
Birch

Type: Latex Hybrid
Firmness: Slightly Firm (7)
The Birch mattress is an 11″ latex hybrid made of organic latex and a pocketed coil base. This mattress is our #2 pick for best natural mattress. The high mattress performance of the Birch mattress lands it a spot within the top 2% of all mattresses tested to date. In addition, the mattress is also 5% less expensive than the average latex hybrid ($596 less than the Saatva Latex Hybrid). For natural and organic materials at a reasonable price point, the Birch is a solid pick.
#1 Value
Awara

Type: Latex Hybrid
Firmness: Medium-Firm (6)
The Awara is an 11.5″ budget latex hybrid. With a price tag of only $949, this mattress is 37% less than the average latex hybrid (a savings of $578 on a queen mattress). In our performance tests, the Awara was well-rounded with green scores in 7 out of 8 performance test categories. It’s only real disadvantage is higher levels of motion transfer (15% more than average), where it earned a score of 7.7 (lower than the average of 8.1). But I’ll also note that higher levels of motion transfer are also fairly common of natural and organic mattresses.
For additional top performing natural and organic mattresses see our best organic mattress winners here.
Best Cooling Mattress
The best cooling mattress has low levels of heat retention, breathes well with plenty of airflow, and typically has a cool-to-the-touch feel on the cover.
Some of the most popular ways to improve mattress cooling include:
- Hybrid design to bring in plenty of airflow
- Phase change materials or thermo-reactive fibers in the cover (this creates the cool-to-the-touch feel)
- Cooling infused materials within the foams (gel, copper, graphite, etc.)
- Higher quality foams that allow for better airflow
Foams can also be hole-punched, perforated, or channel-cut (aka convoluted) to allow for extra breathability.
In the short video clip below you can see how we test cooling using a thermal camera and precise temperature measurements. You can read more about our mattress cooling tests here.
Lastly, let’s talk about coil and spring layers. Among the 25 mattresses that scored a 10/10 for cooling performance, only 3 mattresses didn’t use a pocketed coil base. Coils provide great breathability, are a layer that isn’t able to easily retain heat, and are a physical space for hot air to escape.
#1 Pick
Bear Elite Hybrid

Type: Memory Foam Hybrid
Firmness: Soft (4.5), Medium-Firm (6), Slightly Firm (7.5)
There are many mattresses that could have earned this spot as #1 best cooling mattress, but the Bear Elite Hybrid is the top ranking mattress here. This mattress has a 5.0″ comfort layer and 9.0″ support. It is available in three different firmness levels—Soft (4.5), Medium-Firm (6), Slightly Firm (7.5), making it a great pick for sleepers of many body weights as well as all sleeping positions. The Elite Hybrid is a memory foam hybrid, which means amazing body hug and contour.
#2 Pick
Saatva Classic

Type: Coil
Firmness: Soft (4), Medium-Firm (6), Firm (8)
The Saatva Classic is our #2 best-rated mattress tested to date and our #2 pick for best mattress for cooling. Being a coil-on-coil mattress, the Saatva Classic contains a layer of foam-encased coils followed by a 7.0″ base of support coils. Coils provide increased breathability, while the Euro-style pillow topper gives the Saatva good pressure relief. The Saatva also simply has less foam compared to many other mattresses, which means there is less material that is able to easily retain heat. It comes in three firmness levels—Soft (4), Medium-Firm (6), Firm (8).
#1 Value
Leesa Oasis Chill

Type: Hybrid
Firmness: Soft (4) or Medium-Firm (6)
The Leesa Oasis Chill is a value-packed hybrid with solid, above-average performance. The mattress has an overall thickness of 13.5″ and a 4.8″ comfort layer. This mattress excels in cooling performance with a copper-infused memory foam and quilted cooling cover. If you’re looking for a memory foam feel, but don’t want the heat retention that comes with traditional memory foam, the Oasis Chill is a great option. It comes in two different firmnesses (soft or medium-firm) and is suitable for a wide range of sleepers.
Of the 320+ mattresses tested to date, only 10% of those mattresses earned that perfect cooling score (10/10). While exceptionally good cooling is rare, there are still many mattresses we’ve tested that are worthy of consideration.
Different mattresses may be better for different sleepers depending on personal preference, budget, and the feel you’re looking for. Check the table below for all mattresses that earned a perfect 10/10 performance score for cooling.

Best Foam Mattress
Foam mattresses can be good options for budget sleepers or those who don’t have complicated sleep needs. Foam mattresses tend to have a thinner profile (between 8-12″ thick) and a lower price tag.
The average foam mattress costs $1,113 and has an average performance score of 8.47 (based on all of our tests to date). For reference, hybrids have an average cost of $1,335, plus-sized is $1,665, and latex mattresses are $1,846, based on all of our mattress rankings and tests to date.
The best foam mattresses have less sinkage than average (foam mattress average is 1.91″) and they also have less bounce (8.14″ average total bounce). If you’re looking for a mattress with a balanced feel and want to stay under $1,200, foam mattresses are great option to consider.
#1 Pick
Leesa Original

Type: Foam
Firmness: Medium-Firm (6)
The Leesa mattress is our #1 pick for the best foam mattress. It has an overall score of 9.01, ranking in the top 20% of all mattresses tested to date. In addition, it is also 7% less expensive than the average foam mattress, striking a great balance between price and performance. The Leesa comes in a single firmness (6 out of 10) and has a medium-firm feel. With moderate sinkage and low levels of bounce, the Leesa would be a suitable option for any sleeping position or sleeper under 250 lbs.
#2 Pick
Nolah Signature

Type: Foam
Firmness: Medium (5)
The Nolah Signature is a 12″ foam mattress (2.0″ thicker than the Leesa mentioned above) with a poly foam comfort layer and support foam base. This mattress has good performance overall, with a very fast material response time, great cooling, and exceptional pressure relief. The only two disadvantages to the Nolah would be worse edge support and worse sex performance (due to the lower bounce level + worse edge support). But if these factors aren’t critical, the Nolah can be a great foam mattress pick.
#1 Value
Siena

Type: Foam
Firmness: Medium Firm (6)
The Siena is a 10″ foam mattress with a 2.5″ memory foam comfort layer, convoluted transitional poly foam, and a support foam base. This model is our top-rated bed for best foam mattress in the value category, costing only $399 for a queen mattress. This is 64% less than the average foam mattress for a savings of $680. It has deep sinkage and low levels of bounce for a traditional memory foam feel. While performance isn’t perfect on this mattress, the price makes it worth considering for sleepers on a tight budget.
Check out our best foam mattress guide for additional high performing mattresses and beds.
Best Mattress for Stomach & Back Sleepers
The best mattress for stomach sleepers and the best mattress for back sleepers has a medium-firm to slightly firm feel, which is a 6-7 out of 10 on our firmness scale (where 10 is the most firm).
Stomach or back sleepers need less sinkage, a less plush cover, and a firmness that fully supports the spine (especially in the middle of the mattress). This type of comfort and support dynamic ensures the body is well supported. Too much sinkage or too much softness can result in the spine dipping in the middle, which may lead to pressure points and pains for many stomach and back sleepers.
Heavier weighted sleepers (especially 250+ pounds) should opt for a firmness closer to 7 out of 10 (slightly firm), while moderate and lighter weighted sleepers should go with a firmness of 6 out of 10 (medium-firm).
#1 Pick
Birch

Type: Latex Hybrid
Firmness: Slightly Firm (7)
The Birch mattress is an 11″ latex hybrid made of natural organic latex and a pocketed coil base. This mattress is our #1 mattress ranking as the best mattress for back or stomach sleepers. The overall score of 9.44 is within the top 2% of all mattresses tested to date. In addition, the mattress is also 5% less expensive than the average latex hybrid. Stomach and back sleepers may also really benefit from the slightly firmer feel, which provides more pushback than softer mattresses. Overall, Birch is a great option to consider.
#2 Pick
Leesa Sapira

Type: Hybrid
Firmness: Medium-Firm (6)
The Leesa Sapira is a mattress we mentioned above, but a mattress that is also our #2 rated choice for best mattresses for stomach or back sleepers. The medium-firm feel (6 out of 10) and moderate sinkage provide great support and a restrained feel. This mattress comes in under $1500 for a queen, just slightly higher than the price for the average hybrid. But you’re getting significantly better performance. This mattress earns perfect 10s for cooling, motion transfer, and pressure relief, making it a great pick for many sleepers.
#1 Value
Helix Midnight

Type: Hybrid
Firmness: Soft (4), Medium-Firm (6), Slightly Firm (7)
The Helix Midnight is a 12″ hybrid mattress that uses gel memory foam, poly foam, and a pocketed coil support system. It has a solid overall performance score (8.93) and is a fantastic value with a cost that sticks close to $1,000, making it an easy top ranking for the #2 pick in this category. It is available in 3 firmness options— Soft (4), Medium-Firm (6), and Slightly Firm (7). This mattress also comes with a standard cover or upgraded cooling for an additional $199. For a flexible mattress, designed to support back and stomach sleepers, the Helix Midnight is a great option to consider.
Best Firm Mattress
Firm mattresses are great options for sleepers who sleep on their back or stomachs, for heavier weighted sleepers (especially over 300 pounds), and those who simply prefer the feel of extra support. A firm mattress would be anywhere between a 7 to a 9 on the firmness scale (where 10 is the most firm). A mattress with a firmness rating of 7 would have a slightly firm feel, 8 is firm, and 9 is extra firm.
These mattresses can be foam, hybrids, or even coil. Many times, they have a thinner, firm comfort layer that helps limit sinkage and provide that firm feel.
Firm mattresses are rarely a good choice for side sleepers as they tend to create too much pushback and not enough contour and pressure relief around the hip, spine, or shoulders.
#1 Pick
Plank

Type: Foam
Firmness: Firm (8) and Extra Firm (9)
The Plank mattress is a flippable foam mattress that is 10″ thick and offers two different firmness levels, Firm (8) and Extra Firm (9), one on each side of the mattress. This bed is our top mattress for value with a price tag under $1000, 31% less expensive than the average mattress. For good cooling, a balanced feel, and good pressure relief, the Plank can be a great option for sleepers looking for a firm or extra firm feel. It is also one of the only mattresses we’ve tested that has an Extra Firm feel.
#2 Pick
Saatva Classic

Type: Coil
Firmness: Soft (4), Medium-Firm (6), Firm (8)
The Saatva Classic is our #2 pick for the best firm mattress. This mattress is featured in several other categories due to its strong all-around performance. It excels in all performance tests and is the #2 best mattress we’ve tested to date, considering over 330+ mattresses. Naturally, the higher performance does come at a higher price —31% more than the average mattress we’ve tested. But if you’re looking for a firm mattress that still has deep sinkage and great pressure relief, the Saatva Classic is it.
#1 Value
Novosbed

Type: Memory Foam
Firmness: Soft (4), Medium-Firm (6), or Firm (8)
The Novosbed is an 11″ memory foam mattress with a 5.0″ comfort layer, minimal sinkage, and low levels of bounce. This mattress makes the list as our value pick for best firm mattress. It is available in three firmness levels—Soft (4), Medium-Firm (6), or Firm (8). It has great performance and a price below average, under $1000 for a queen mattress. For a value memory foam mattress with a traditional feel, the Novosbed is a solid pick to consider.
For more top mattress picks, see our best firm mattress list.
Best Soft Mattress
Soft mattresses tend to be a better choice for people who sleep on their side or those who weigh less (especially those less than 130 pounds).
A soft mattress is anything between 3 to 4 on the firmness scale (where 10 is the most firm). A 3 out of 10 would be considered “extra soft” and a 4 out of 10 is “soft”.
Like firm mattresses, soft mattresses can be foam, a hybrid, or even coils. Many of the best soft mattresses have plush covers or top layers of soft, body-contouring foams. In addition, soft mattresses are typically thicker and have a thicker total comfort layer.
In order to create the softer feel and avoid pressure points, it requires more foam. This also means that the best soft mattresses are more expensive, as there is simply more material needed to create them, compared to firmer mattresses.
#1 Pick
Nolah Evolution

Type: Hybrid
Firmness: Soft (4), Medium (5.5), or Firm (8)
The Nolah Evolution is our top pick for the best soft mattress. It has a 4.0″ comfort layer made of poly foam and memory foam with deep sinkage and moderate bounce. The Evolution has exceptional pressure relief and despite the soft feel, it still has great edge support as well. The overall performance of this mattress ranks in the top 7%, but bear in mind, it is also 19% more expensive than the average mattress tested to date. But if you’re looking for deep sinkage and a soft feel, without sacrificing support, the Evolution is a great pick.
#2 Pick
Winkbed

Type: Hybrid
Firmness: Soft (4), Medium-Firm (6), Slightly Firm (7)
It would be unjust to exclude the Winkbed from the “best soft mattresses” list, as it offers higher performance and a lower price compared to the Evolution. The soft version of Winkbed comes in at a 4 out of 10 and has a 5.0″ comfort layer. The plush cover gives the mattress deeper sinkage and great contour. Priced at $1499 for a queen, the Winkbed offers a bit of savings compared to the Evolution. This mattress would be a solid pick for many sleepers, especially lighter-weighted side sleepers looking for a plush, soft feel.
#1 Value
Brooklyn Bedding Signature Hybrid

Type: Hybrid
Firmness: Soft (4), Medium-Firm (6), Slightly Firm (7)

This mattress has fantastic cooling, fast response, and excellent pressure relief. In addition to top notch performance, the price is only $999 for a queen mattress. This is 25% less than the average hybrid mattress (a savings of $1342 for a queen sized mattress).

How we selected the winners
It’s important to note that each category may have several mattresses that could have earned the best mattress title, the second place pick, or the value pick. When selecting winners we’re looking at overall performance score, price, and individual scoring and testing factors (as they are relevant to the respective category).

For example, we wanted only minimal and moderate sinkage mattresses for stomach and back sleepers, which doesn’t correlate to any scoring category, but is critically important for those stomach and back sleepers to get the right support dynamic.
You can see our framework that guides our decisions on how we choose best mattress winners here.
To avoid duplication and provide the widest range of suitable options, we make our best effort to avoid featuring the same mattress brand as #1 best mattress within multiple categories.

For example, Winkbed earns the title of Best Overall Performance, but would also be appropriate as Best For Side Sleepers, Best Hybrid, Best Soft Mattress (in the soft version), or even Best for Stomach or Back Sleepers (in the firm version).
The same could be said of Saatva Classic, Leesa Sapira, Helix Plus Elite, Saatva Latex Hybrid, and Birch, all of which earned incredibly good scores and could have earned best mattress spots on multiple other mattress ranking categories.

We test mattresses using a battery of tests we’ve developed in-house. These tests are designed to show how the mattress performs in the categories that are important to most sleepers.

Our tests analyze performance across 8 critical factors, including cooling, motion transfer, response time, edge support, sex, pressure relief, off-gassing, and company. In addition, we also test sinkage and bounce (though these are not scoring factors).
Our tests include objective and quantifiable data whenever possible. In addition, we use subjective assessment supported by data to round out our testing process.
Our scores are based on mathematical formulas and equations that utilize inputs from our data-driven testing.
In choosing the best mattresses for 2025 we looked at the totality of all of our tests, scores, data, and reviews to date. We analyzed this data alongside our established best mattress framework here.
This list represents the best mattress within each respective mattress type.
When selecting the best mattress, we’re looking at a combination of overall scoring performance, firmness, price, and US availability. In addition, for certain categories we look at specific performance criteria, materials, category scores, testing data, and other factors that are specifically relevant for those categories.
These additional factors help ensure we select mattresses that meet the specific needs and preferences of sleepers within each of our major best mattress categories.

Best Mattress Overall – Winkbed

Best For
- Exceptional cooling performance
- Fantastic edge support with only 2.25″ sinkage when seated
- 5.0″ comfort layer provides outstanding pressure relief
Considerations
- Returns are free, but exchanges cost $49
- 14″ profile may not be great for a low-profile aesthetic
- Deep sinkage of 2.38″
Our Verdict
The Winkbed is a 14″ hybrid that has a pocketed coil support layer, transitional poly foam, and a top layer of gel foam that gives the mattress deep sinkage and great cooling
It offers a balanced feel with deep sinkage (8% deeper than average) and moderate bounce (2% more bounce than average). The mattress has a balanced feel, despite the deep sinkage, and maintains limited heat retention with a very fast response time with an active feel.
The feel of lying on the Winkbed is a balance between deep sinkage (10% more than average) and semi-dramatic contour around the body. Furthermore, it offers a moderate level of bounce that is within my ideal range to provide great ease of movement while not overly trampoline-like.
The Winkbed is available in three different firmnesses—softer (4), luxury firm (6), and firmer (7), where 10 is the most firm. Alternatively, they have a firm option that is also designed specifically for heavier-weighted bodies over 250 lbs. called the Winkbed Plus.
The Winkbed has the highest performance score received by any mattress tested at Naplab to date. With a score of 9.82, it is within the top 1% of not only hybrids, but all mattress types that we test.
As for price, you can get a queen-size Winkbed for $1,499, which is only slightly higher (10%) than the cost of the average mattress. Frankly, with a performance score this high, this is an amazing value and our top recommendation for anyone who can afford it.

Best Hybrid Mattress – Leesa Sapira

Best For
- Exceptional pressure relief, especially for an 11″ mattress
- Low levels of motion transfer, 47% less than average
- Outstanding cooling performance
Considerations
- Sitting edge support is lacking, 6.25″ of sinkage
- Very high levels of bounce is great for sex, but may not be ideal for all sleepers
- Priced 20% more than the average hybrid
Our Verdict
The Leesa Sapira is a complex layering of poly foam, memory foam, transition foam, and a pocketed coil support unit. These elements combine to make one of the most comfortable, breathable, and overall best hybrid mattresses for 2025.
The Sapira offers deep levels of sinkage. With the poly foam layer on top, it doesn’t excessively conform to your body’s shape. Instead, it provides a generalized contour and high bounce to make it easy to move around. Furthermore, motion transfer is practically non-existent.
There is only one firmness option on the Sapira and that is a 6 out of 10, which gives it a medium-firm feel.
With an overall performance score of 9.50, it ranks in the top 1% of hybrids and the top 2% of all mattress types. The only performance weakness is its edge support, which lacks reinforced edge material.
The price of a queen-size Sapira is $1,599. This is 17% more than the average mattress and is certainly a little higher than some recommendations on this list. However, with the rare combination of cooling, pressure relief, and motion transfer categories scoring so highly, that price is more than justified.

- Ships uncompressed, includes in-home delivery, setup, & old mattress removal
Considerations
- Coils naturally have more bounce
- Costlier option compared to foam-based mattresses
- Higher profile may be too thick for some aesthetics
Our Verdict
The Saatva Classic has a thickness of 11.5″ or 14.5″, depending on personal preference (price is the same for both thicknesses), and a coil-on-coil construction. The cover is a plush Euro-top cover followed by a small amount of comfort foam and two layers of coils.
Saatva has a more traditional coil feel and less foam than a more typical hybrid mattress. This combination of materials gives the mattress deep sinkage and extremely high bounce while retaining low levels of motion transfer (something other coil mattresses tend to struggle with).
The Saatva is available in three firmness levels—Plush Soft (4), Luxury Firm (6), or Firm (8), where 10 is the most firm.
This mattress has a fantastic performance score of 9.74 overall, which ranks it as the #1 coil mattress, as well as within the top 1% among all mattress types we’ve tested to date.
For a Saatva Classic, a queen costs $1,795. This is 79% more than the average coil mattress—a difference of $793, compared to other coil mattresses we’ve tested to date.
While the price is more expensive, the performance is fantastic. I would recommend the Saatva Classic for sleepers who enjoy a more traditional coil-based mattress feel.

Best Memory Foam Mattress – Glacier Apex

Best For
- Low levels of motion transfer (
5.77 m/s²) - Fantastic edge support, only 3.25″ of sinkage when seated
- Great value, 9% less than the average memory foam hybrid
Considerations
- Low bounce may not be great for couples looking for good sex performance
- 14.25″ thickness may not be great for low-profile aesthetics
Our Verdict
The Glacier Apex is the highest-performing memory foam hybrid tested to date. It is a 14.25″ mattress with a pocketed coil support system, transitional poly foam, and a comfort layer of copper memory foam.
This mattress has low levels of bounce and moderate levels of sinkage. It has a balanced level of contour and a good degree of hug. If you like the feel of traditional memory foam hug, the Apex is a great option.
It is available in a single firmness, 6 out of 10, with a medium-firm feel.
In our performance tests, the Glacier Apex earned an overall score of 9.27 making it the best memory foam hybrid tested to date. This score also earns the Apex a spot in the top 8% of all mattress types tested to date.
The Apex is $1399 (for a queen mattress). This price is 9% less than the average memory foam hybrid, giving sleepers a savings of $133 for a queen mattress. The Glacier Apex has significantly above average performance with a price that is below average, making it a fantastic value.

Best Mattress for Back Pain – Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe

Best For
- 13.5″ thick and exceptional pressure relief
- Fantastic cooling, perfect score of 10 out of 10
- Fast material response time
Considerations
- Motion transfer levels are just slightly more than average
- 23% higher price tag than the average hybrid (but also higher performance)
Our Verdict
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe is a 13.25” hybrid made up of poly foam, pocketed coils, and a thin support foam base topped with a plush quilted cover.
It achieves a balanced feel with its moderate sinkage and bounce and no polarizing latex or memory foam in the comfort layer. Therefore, it will have a generalized contour and hug around your body with little risk of feeling overly enveloped or stuck by the material.
The Aurora Luxe is available in 3 firmness options—soft (4), medium-firm (6), and firm (8).
The mattress has a performance score of 9.33, which ranks it among the top 5% of all mattresses tested to date.
As for price, a queen Aurora Luxe is $1,699, which is 25% more than the average mattress. Looking at hybrids specifically, it is 28% more than average. Like so many mattresses on our list, while it is more expensive than average, the performance is also significantly better than average as well.

Best Mattress For Heavy People – Helix Plus Elite

Best For
- Low levels of motion transfer
- Good cooling with a thicker profile
- Zoned pocketed coils provide fantastic pressure relief and support
Considerations
- High price point—$2,999 for a queen mattress
- High bounce may not be ideal for all sleepers, but it is great for sex performance
- 16″ thickness is 33% thicker than the average mattress
Our Verdict
The Helix Plus Elite has one of the thickest (16”), most complex mattress designs we have tested to date. Its layers include support foam, poly foams, micro coils, a pocketed support base, and a plush quilted cover. The result is one of the most comfortable, supportive, and best mattresses for heavy people we’ve tested to date.
The Plus Elite has slightly higher levels of both sinkage and bounce. The feel it offers is incredibly balanced with no risk of cratering or any sort of stuck feeling.
On a somewhat rare note, this is a plus-sized mattress with a medium-firm firmness rating of 6 out of 10. Usually, mattresses for heavier sleepers tend to rely on firmer designs, but the Plus Elite can give fantastic support and pushback while still offering a medium-firm feel.
And when it comes to performance, it leaves little room for improvement. With a performance score of 9.60, it is the 3rd best mattress we’ve ever tested. The biggest drawback here is its price.
A queen-size Helix Plus Elite costs $3K, which is more than double the average mattress price. Plus-size models can run a little higher, but this is still 80% more than the average plus-size mattress. However, for those who can afford this price, it is undoubtedly one of, if not the best mattress for heavier people.

Best Natural Mattress – Saatva Latex Hybrid

Best For
- Extremely low levels of motion transfer, 3.13 m/s² acceleration
- Higher bounce and great edge support mean fantastic sex performance
- More natural and organic materials
Considerations
- Minimal sinkage may not provide adequate contour for all side sleepers (depending on personal preference)
- Priced 19% higher than the average latex hybrid
Our Verdict
The Saatva Latex Hybrid is the brand’s more natural model and our top pick for the best natural mattress. It is a 12” latex hybrid made up of 3” of natural latex sitting atop an 8” pocketed coil unit finished with an organic cotton quilted cover.
Saatva themselves repeatedly describe the feel of this mattress as “buoyant” and that matches our experience exactly. The Latex Hybrid offers a definitively floating sensation with a much more restrained level of sinkage than most mattresses. However, the coil unit and latex comfort layer bring a more active feel with high bounce and a super fast material response.
The firmness level is just slightly more firm than average with a rating of 6 out of 10. This is the only firmness option available. Both the latex foam layer and coil unit are designed with 5 different zones offering more or less pushback based on the part of the body it supports (head versus hips, for example).
Across all our performance categories, the Saatva Latex Hybrid never scored lower than 9.0. With an overall score of 9.48, it is within the top 2% of all mattresses tested to date as well as the best latex hybrid we’ve tested so far.
On the flip side, it comes a more expensive price tag. A queen-size Saatva Latex Hybrid costs $2,095, which is $728 (or 53%) more than the average mattress. Overall, the mattress is exceptional in many performance categories and a great choice if natural and organic materials are important to you.

Best Cooling Mattress – Bear Elite Hybrid

Best For
- Exceptional cooling performance thanks to the phase change cover
- Great pressure relief for all sleeper types
- Very low levels of motion transfer (3.74 m/s²), 57% less than average
Considerations
- Slower material response time, 1.7 seconds for full recovery
- Shorter 120-night trial period (average is 177 nights)
- 14″ thick, 2″ thicker than average
Our Verdict
The Bear Elite Hybrid is a thick 14” hybrid that uses copper-infused memory foam and a plush quilted cover to provide great comfort and exceptional cooling.
The feel of the Bear Elite is that of modern memory foam, where it has keeps the traditional dramatic contour while offering higher bounce, better cooling, and reasonable fast response. It keeps sinkage at a moderate level so there is little risk of feeling overly enveloped.
The mattress comes in three different firmness level—soft (4.5), medium-firm (6), and slightly firm 7.5).
The 9.24 performance score for the Bear Elite Hybrid puts it among the top 9% of all mattresses tested to date and in the top 8% of memory foam hybrids.
Concerning its price, the Bear Elite is $1,624 for a queen and this is $250 (18%) more expensive than the average mattress. Even for memory foam hybrids, it’s 5% more expensive. Overall, this is an excellent mattress, especially for those prioritizing cooling and low-motion transfer.

Best Foam Mattress – Leesa Original

Best For
- Extremely low motion transfer, 2.06 m/s²
- Less bounce than average (5.91″ total)
- A balanced feel with fast response time
Considerations
- Edge support while sitting is mediocre
- Only available in one firmness, medium firm
- Only 10″ thick, may not be suitable for all heavier people
Our Verdict
The Leesa Original has an all-foam design with an overall thinner profile at 10”. It uses poly foam, memory foam, and support foam to create not only one of the best foam mattresses on the market but one of the best budget-friendly ones as well.
It offers moderate sinkage and low bounce to create a much less lively feel than other mattresses on this list. It will feel more relaxed but with a fast response, you will never feel stuck or overwhelmed by the material. This is great for couples who don’t want to disturb each other during the night.
The Leesa Original comes in just the one firmness option of 6 out of 10, which is a medium firm feel and is designed to appeal to the widest range of sleepers.
The performance score of 9.03 puts the Leesa Original in the top 17% of all mattresses tested to date and in the top 9% of all foam mattresses.
Where the Leesa shines is its price. At $1,059 for a queen, it is 22% less expensive than the average mattress. For sleepers whose budget is around $1K and who love an all-foam feel, the Leesa Original is one of the strongest options out there.

Best Mattress for Back or Stomach Sleepers – Birch

Best For
- Outstanding cooling performance with 2.0″ hole-punched latex
- Very fast material response time
- Fantastic sex performance score, great for couples
Considerations
- A slightly firm feel isn’t ideal for most side sleepers
- Extremely high levels of bounce, 56% higher than average
- 4.5″ sinkage when seated at the edge
Our Verdict
For another more sustainable option, the Birch is one of our favorites. At only 11” tall, its design includes an 8” pocketed coil base, 2” of hole-punched latex, and a 1” quilted cover made of organic cotton.
With these materials, it’s no surprise that the mattress offers extremely high bounce (56% higher than average). This is great for overall ease of movement and greatly improves amorous activities. Its sinkage is moderate, which makes for a comfortable yet overall lively feel.
The Birch only has a single firmness option, which is a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale, where 10 is the most firm. If you like the Birch but want a softer feel, consider the Birch Luxe, which has a firmness of 6 out of 10.
As for its performance, the Birch’s score of 9.44 puts it within the top 3% of all mattresses tested to date. For latex hybrids specifically, which tend to score well, it is within the top 4%. But what solidifies the Birch on this list is its price.
The Birch costs $1,499 for a queen, and that is 5% less than the average latex hybrid mattress. Remember the previous latex hybrid recommendation was $2,095. So if you’re looking for the best value, the Birch is hard to beat in this category.

Best Firm Mattress – Plank

Best For
- Lower levels of motion transfer, only 6.80 m/s²
- Flippable firmness for firm (8) or extra firm (9) feel
- Priced significantly below average
- Fantastic cooling performance
Considerations
- Extra firm side may be too firm for side sleepers or those who struggle with pressure relief issues
- Moderately slow material response time
- Below-average sex performance
Our Verdict
The Plank is a flippable foam mattress with an overall thickness of 10″. It is made of a latex-like poly foam and support foam.
Plank has moderate sinkage and moderate levels of bounce (both slightly less than average). It doesn’t have deep levels of contour or hug, but is a solid pick if you’re looking for incredible support and pushback.
The Plank is a flippable mattress with one side having a firm feel (8 out of 10) and the opposite side having an extra firm feel (9 out of 10).
The Plank has an overall performance score of 8.87, which puts it in the top 28% of all mattresses tested to date. And if we look exclusively at 100% foam mattresses, that rank jumps up to the top 23%.
One of the biggest advantages of the Plank is the low price, less than $1000 for a queen mattress. This is 16% less than the average foam mattress and can make the Plank an attractive option if you’re looking for that extra firm feel.

Best Soft Mattress – Nolah Evolution 15

Best For
- Exceptional pressure relief thanks to a 6.0″ comfort layer
- Only 3.25″ of sinkage provides great edge support
- Fantastic cooling performance
Considerations
- Deep sinkage may not be ideal for all back or stomach sleepers
- Priced 22% more than the average hybrid
- Higher levels of motion transfer (11.10 m/s²)
Our Verdict
For a softer mattress, the Nolah Evolution 15 is a thick 15” hybrid with a plush quilted cover. It uses 4” of poly foam and a 9” support base to achieve a balance of comfort and support.
The Evolution offers deep sinkage and maintains a moderately high level of bounce. This gives it a plush, enveloping feel with a semi-dramatic hug around one’s body while staying lively and fast to respond.
This mattress also comes in three firmness options, a soft (4), medium (5.5), or firm (8). This range of options helps provide a good option for all sleeper types.
The Nolah Evolution 15 earned an overall performance score of 9.28, which puts it in the top 7% of all mattresses tested to date. When it comes to just hybrids, it is within the top 6%.
As for price, the Evolution 15 is just a bit more expensive than your average mattress at $1,624. This is 19% higher than the average mattress. Overall, this is a fantastic hybrid at a fair price. We like it for our best soft mattress recommendation due to its plush cover and deep sinkage.

How We Test Mattresses
All mattresses that enter the NapLab are put through a rigorous testing process that scores each mattress across 8 different categories. Each scoring category is given a weighted importance and the 8 scoring factors are then combined into a single overall score.
Performance scores range from 9.82 (Winkbed) at the highest to 6.23 (Sealy Cocoon Chill) at the lowest. Considering over 320+ mattresses tested to date, the average performance score is 8.55.

Our tests analyze performance across 8 critical factors including cooling, motion transfer, response time, edge support, sex, pressure relief, off-gassing, and company.
You can see our complete testing and scoring process here.
How We Pick the Winners
In choosing the best mattresses for 2025, we looked at the totality of all of our tests, scores, data, and reviews to date. We analyzed this data alongside our established best mattress framework here.
Below are the high-level factors we considered when selecting the best mattress for each category:
- The highest overall score, while meeting all other criteria of the respective category (ex. materials, firmness, sinkage)
- A level of firmness that was appropriate to the category
- Specific performance criteria that are highly relevant to certain best mattress categories (ex. stomach and back sleepers want to avoid deep sinkage, so we only picked mattresses with moderate and minimal sinkage).
- Available within the US
- Long-standing brand trust and dependability
In addition, we try to avoid duplicate mentions of the same mattress across multiple mattress categories.

Mattress Testing Data
Our unique data set is what sets NapLab apart from other sites that review mattresses. We believe in comprehensive data analysis across a wide range of performance categories.

What Mattress Should I Buy?
From the list of mattress types available, it can be hard to know which type is best for you. Important factors to consider include:
- Sleeping Position
- Body Weight
- Mattress Price
1. Sleeping Position
The position you prefer to sleep in plays a big role in what mattress you should buy. According to a Naplab survey of over 27,000 sleepers, 86% of people sleep on their side, 41% are back sleepers, and 25% call themselves stomach sleepers.

Side sleepers benefit from a bit more contour and hug around their hips, shoulders, and neck. Maintaining spinal alignment is the #1 priority for side sleepers and the best mattress for side sleepers provides that extra level of contour.
Back and stomach sleepers do better with a slightly firmer feel, typically between 6-7 out of 10 on the firmness scale for a medium-firm to slightly firm feel. This firmness maintains spinal alignment but at a different level than what side sleepers experience. For back and stomach sleepers, the body weight is more evenly distributed along the entire surface of their back or stomach.
2. Body Weight
Body weight is a big factor in selecting the best mattresses for your needs and also determines how you perceive the firmness of any given mattress.
The table below shows our recommended firmness based on a sleeper’s body weight. There is a little wiggle room for personal preference, but firmnesses that fall within these recommended ranges have the best chance of providing ideal support and limiting pressure points.

Lighter-weighted sleepers tend to do better with mattresses between 4-6 out of 10 on the firmness scale. These mattresses are soft enough so that their lighter weights can still engage with the materials and not simply float on the top of the mattress.
Heavier-weighted sleepers benefit from a firmer feel, typically 6-8 out of 10 on the firmness scale. This degree of firmness helps heavier sleepers from sinking too deeply into plush materials, which could lead to back pain.
3. Mattress Price
Below is a rundown of the average price and average performance score of each mattress type. The explanations below the table describe what type of sleepers may be best suited for each mattress type.
This list is ordered by which mattresses have the lowest price to the highest price. You can also see the correlation between mattress price and mattress performance, as the lower prices also tend to earn the lowest average performance scores.

Cons
- May have slightly higher levels of motion transfer than average
- Higher price tag than coil, foam, or memory foam mattresses
Hybrid mattresses are mattresses that contain one or more layers of comfort foam and a supportive coil base. The exact type of foam and or design of the coil base may vary.
Memory foam, latex foam, or poly foam blends are some of the most popular materials for comfort layers. The support base will be a type of spring coil unit.
Pocketed coils are the most common in modern hybrids as they include hundreds of individual coils, each individually encased in a thin fabric around a single coil. Pocketed coil systems help to limit noise and motion transfer, as well as provide great pressure relief since all coils move independently.

Average Score
Pros
- Deeper hug and contour of memory foam is great for side sleepers
- Lower levels of motion transfer, fantastic for couples
- Lower price than the average mattress
Cons
- More likely to have heat retention issues than hybrids or coil-based mattresses
- Worse sex performance on average, due to lower bounce levels
- Slower material response time
Memory foam mattresses contain a comfort layer that is primary made of memory foam with a support foam base. Memory foam has high viscoelasticity, meaning that it retains the shape and contour of objects longer than poly foams or latex foam.
The downsides of traditional memory foam include higher levels of heat retention, slower material response time, and low levels of bounce. These won’t necessarily be disadvantages to all sleepers, but depending on what you’re looking for, memory foam might not be the right pick for you.

- Pressure relief may struggle depending on mattress thickness and material quality
- Lower sex performance on average, especially when compared to coil-based mattresses
Foam mattresses are mattresses that contain 100% foam layers. These mattresses do not contain any coil support layers, micro-coils, or alternative materials like air chambers or gel pads. Foam mattresses are great for sleepers on a budget, as they are offered at a lower price point average.
Typically, foam mattresses are compromised of a support foam layer topped with one or more layers of comfort foam.
Foam mattresses are also generally thinner mattresses than many coil or hybrid mattresses. The average thickness of a foam mattress is 10.65” thick, 1.35” thinner than the 12.0” average across all mattresses tested to date. Thicker mattresses tend to provide better pressure relief and support for heavier sleepers. As a result, if you do weigh more you may want to consider a different mattress type.

Pros
- Incredibly fast material response time
- Fantastic cooling performance
- Natural materials are healthier, more eco-friendly, and more sustainable
- Less off-gassing / smell
Cons
- Higher levels of motion transfer than average
- Less edge support than what you’ll get with a coil-based mattress

Latex foam mattresses use 100% foam for both the comfort layer as well as the support layer. These mattresses are advantageous to sleepers concerned with sustainability as they are more eco-friendly options, using materials sourced naturally.
Latex mattresses are oftentimes backed by many certifications, touting their organic materials or sustainable fabrication processes.
Compared to latex hybrids, 100% latex foam mattresses have a higher price, worse edge support, and higher levels of motion transfer. The advantages of a latex foam mattress would be lower levels of bounce, faster material response time, and slightly better pressure relief.

Average Score
Pros
- Higher than average overall performance
- Fantastic cooling performance
- Adjustable firmness gives sleepers lots of flexibility
Cons
- High average price tag
- More motion transfer than the average mattress
- Many companies are less well-known, in many cases, and may not have as much brand trust among consumers
Adjustable mattresses are designed to have a varying firmness that gives the sleeper more flexibility and freedom to change the firmness nightly. These mattresses can also be a good choice for couples as each side of the mattress can be set to a different firmness, in many cases.
Some mattresses with adjustable firmness also have the option to adjust position, allowing sleepers to easily raise the head / foot of the mattress. For people who enjoy reading or watching tv in bed, the adjustable positions can be advantageous. It is also a nice feature for older sleepers who may need help getting in or out of bed as well as people with chronic pain in their back, legs, or other joints.
The downsides to adjustable mattresses is that they tend to be very expensive. Adjustable mattresses usually need to be located directly next to a power source and may have a power console or other housing unit that sits next to / under the bed.
