Saatva Classic

10 Cooling
9.8 Motion Transfer
10 Response Time
10 Edge Support

9.8 Company

Best For

  • Options—3 firmness levels and 2 mattress height options
  • Fast response time with coil-on-coil design
  • Fantastic cooling performance

Considerations

  • High levels of bounce with 14.67″ in our tests
  • Primarily coils construction compared to hybrid or foam mattresses

Our Verdict

The Saatva Classic mattress is available in three firmness levels (soft, medium, and firm) as well as two thicknesses (11.5″ or 14.5″). The coil-on-coil design provides excellent cooling and breathability while retaining a moderate level of sinkage and contour.

Motion transfer levels are low and edge support is excellent. Overall, the Saatva is a luxury mattress for sleepers looking for that balanced feel and high-quality materials. It is tied with Winkbed as the best-scoring mattress we’ve tested to date.

Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid

10 Response Time
9.6 Edge Support
9.7 Sex
10 Pressure Relief
9.4 Off-Gassing
9.8 Company

Best For

  • Low level of motion transfer
  • Fantastic pressure relief
  • A balanced feel—hug and contour from memory foam, but support and response from hybrid coil base

Considerations

  • Slightly longer off-gassing period than average (8 days)
  • Deeper sinkage than average for more contour
  • Only 100-night trial compared to 165-night average

Our Verdict

The Amerisleep AS3 is available as an all-foam mattress or a hybrid. In our performance tests, the Hybrid scored 9.77, and the foam AS3 scored 9.64.

Comparing the two, the AS3 hybrid had better edge support, slightly deeper sinkage, slightly more motion transfer, and higher levels of bounce. It also has a higher price tag than the foam AS3.

While the foam AS3 does struggle a bit with edge support, all of the other categories are exceptional.

Nolah Evolution 15

10 Cooling
8.5 Motion Transfer
10 Response Time
9.9 Edge Support
9.8 Sex
10 Pressure Relief
9.8 Off-Gassing
9.5 Company

Best For

  • Exceptional cooling
  • Excellent edge support, only 3.25″ when sitting at the edge
  • Deep sinkage and contour, great for side sleepers

Considerations

  • Higher levels of motion transfer—11.10 m/s² compared to the average of 8.34 m/s²
  • 15″ profile may be too high for personal preference

Our Verdict

The Nolah Evolution 15 is a high-profile hybrid with a quilted euro top cover, poly foam comfort layer, and pocketed coil support system. This mattress is 15″ thick, which is one of the thickest mattresses we’ve tested to date. In our tests, this extra thickness helped provide exceptional pressure relief and edge support.

The cooling was also exceptionally good. The thicker comfort layer does provide a deep level of sinkage but also retains a fast material response time. Overall, this is a balanced mattress that provides a great value. And the value is even better if you can take advantage of the Black Friday sale.

9.5 Cooling
10 Motion Transfer
10 Response Time
9.5 Edge Support
9.4 Sex
10 Pressure Relief
9.8 Off-Gassing
9.8 Company

Best For

  • Excellent pressure relief
  • Low levels of motion transfer with a thicker 14″ profile
  • Good edge support

Considerations

  • Priced 46% higher than the average hybrid
  • Faster response time could mean less contour for some sleepers

Our Verdict

The Helix Midnight Luxe mattress has a 14” thick profile, 2” thicker than the standard Helix mattresses. This extra thickness contributes to lower levels of motion transfer, better pressure relief, and moderate levels of sinkage.

In our performance tests, the Midnight Luxe scored in the top 7% of all mattresses tested to date.

For comparison, the standard Helix Midnight scored in the top 66% of all mattresses tested to date. The Helix Midnight Elite, the top-level Helix scored in the top 4% of all mattresses.

Bear Elite Hybrid

9.72 Overall Score

10 Cooling
10 Motion Transfer
10 Response Time
9.1 Edge Support
9.8 Sex
9.5 Pressure Relief
9.8 Off-Gassing
9.8 Company

Best For

  • Cooling performance is fantastic, notably better heat dissipation than average
  • Low motion transfer, especially for a hybrid

Considerations

  • Edge support while sitting is good, just not amazing
  • Most of the materials respond quickly, but the top layers of foam do take longer to fully recover (1.7 seconds for full recovery)

Our Verdict

The Bear Elite Hybrid mattress offers an extra-plush quilted cover, a thicker 14″ profile, and phase change material for improved cooling over the original Bear Star Hybrid.

During our performance tests, the Elite Hybrid had exceptionally good cooling, moderate sinkage, very low motion transfer, fast response time, moderate bounce height, good (but not great) edge support, and excellent pressure relief.

The Bear Elite Hybrid is one of the best mattresses we’ve tested to date. The high-performance foams, phase change fabric, and hybrid design create exceptionally good cooling.

The low motion transfer, fast response, and moderate levels of sinkage and bounce check all the right boxes as well. Edge support is the only notable area that lacks, even so, it only lacks sitting edge support. Edge support while lying is solid. Overall, a fantastic hybrid mattress and the best we’ve seen from Bear.

Best For

  • Budgets under $1000
  • Good cooling with coil and foam materials
  • Excellent edge support

Considerations

  • Only 2.5″ comfort layer may not be suitable for sleepers over 250 lbs.
  • High bounce (9.99″ total)

Our Verdict

The Brooklyn Bedding Signature mattress is an 11” hybrid mattress with widespread appeal, a balanced feel, and is affordably priced at only $999 for a queen. This mattress strikes the balance of performance and price, making it a strong choice for sleepers looking for a budget hybrid.

In our performance tests, the Signature Hybrid had good cooling, very fast response, exceptional edge support, and great pressure relief.

Motion transfer is the only area where it struggled, measuring 10.23 m/s² max acceleration range. For comparison, the average level is 8.34 m/s².

  • Medium-firm feel with a more restrained contouring hug

Our Verdict

The Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper is a 14” hybrid mattress that has a copper-infused cover, memory foam, poly foam, and pocketed coils.

Our performance tests measured fast response time, great cooling, excellent edge support, and excellent pressure relief.

For a high-quality, cool hybrid the Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper is the top-of-the-line from Nectar.

GhostBed Classic

9.0 Cooling
10 Motion Transfer
10 Response Time
9.3 Edge Support
9.5 Sex
9.5 Pressure Relief
9.8 Off-Gassing
9.8 Company

Best For

  • Low levels of motion transfer
  • Moderate levels of total bounce (8.08″), slightly less bounce than average (9.62″)
  • Budgets under $1000

Considerations

  • Higher levels of heat retention compared to others (especially hybrids)
  • Dense support foams may not be ideal for petite sleepers (110 pounds or less)

Our Verdict

The GhostBed Classic mattress is an 11” high foam mattress that uses a combination of latex foam, gel memory foam, and support foam. It is designed to have a balanced feel and it is a good pick for a well-rounded mattress that would appeal to a wide range of sleeper needs / preferences.

In our performance tests, the mattress has extremely low motion transfer, fast response time, and good pressure relief.

Cooling and edge support are both pretty good, but not as good as the GhostBed Flex—a hybrid design that combines foam and coils. Still, the GhostBed Classic provides a fantastic value, especially on sale for Black Friday.

8.5 Cooling
9.8 Motion Transfer
9.6 Response Time
9.6 Edge Support
9.8 Sex
9.0 Pressure Relief
9.9 Off-Gassing
10 Company

Best For

  • Excellent edge support, 3.75″ of sinkage when seated directly on the edge
  • Low levels of motion transfer
  • Very little off-gassing / smell

Considerations

  • Cooling leaves something to be desired
  • Slower material response time
  • Higher levels of bounce

Our Verdict

The DreamCloud Premier is a luxury hybrid mattress with 8.0″ of pocketed coils and 4.5″ of foam on top. It comes from the same parent company as the Nectar mattress, but the two mattresses are far from twins.

This mattress offers good, but not great cooling, a fast response time, and moderate pressure relief. Sinkage was about average, with low motion transfer, high bounce, and excellent edge support as well.

Among the entire DreamCloud line, the Premier was by far the best-performing model we tested. It seems to strike a material and design balance better than the other DreamCloud mattresses. It’s not a perfect hybrid, but at this price point, it’s still a solid buy for many sleepers.
