Our Verdict

When considering Helix vs. Dreamcloud, there are some notable pros and cons to consider for each mattress brand. While both brands design hybrid mattresses, their feel, and performance are quite different.

Helix offers a wider range of mattresses, in terms of firmness and materials. Helix mattresses are avaialble in a range of firmnesses from very soft to very firm, and everything in between. The have higher a response, a more restrained contouring hug, and good all around performance.

Dreamcloud offers a collection about 1/4 of the size of Helix, limiting firmness options. DreamCloud mattresses are only available in medium / medium-firm feel. Their feel focuses more on deeper sinkage with memory foam on top. This creates a more noted contouring body hug.

Helix vs. Dreamcloud: Who Is the Winner?

The table below shows which of these mattresses is the winner in each scoring category we test for.

Best Pressure ReliefHelix Dusk Luxe, Helix Midnight Luxe10
Least Off-GassingDreamcloud (all)Minor, 1 days

Among these models, here are the categories where each mattress excelled.

  • BEST COOLING: Helix takes the win over DreamCloud in all instances. While both of these brands make hybrids, the DreamCloud hybrids just struggled more in this area, compared to Helix.
  • MOST / LEAST SINKAGE: The Helix Sunset recorded the most sinkage (also the softest feel) and the mattress with the least sinkage is the Helix Plus. The Plus is designed for plus-sized sleepers so it makes sense that sinkage is more limited. Dreamcloud fell in between these two mattresses, offering a moderate sinkage.
  • LOWEST MOTION TRANSFER: In this category, DreamCloud Premier Rest takes the win. This mattress offers 4.0″ of comfort material and a 2.0″ thick plush, pillowtop. All of these layers help to deaden energy and limit motion transfer.
  • FASTEST RESPONSE TIME: The Helix Plus has the fastest performance, with a 0.2-second response. This is tied with the fastest we’ve tested to date.
  • MOST / LEAST BOUNCE: With the most bounce, the Helix Moonlight tops out at 17.15″ while the Helix Midnight Luxe has the least amount of bounce with only 7.47″.
  • BEST EDGE SUPPORT: The Helix Dusk Luxe and Helix Midnight Luxe had the best edge support with a max sinkage of only 3.0″.
  • BEST FOR SEX: Regarding sex, the Dreamcloud Premier was the leader, striking a fantastic balance between bounce, edge support, cooling, pressure relief, and noise.
  • BEST PRESSURE RELIEF: The Helix Dusk Luxe and Helix Midnight Luxe were both tied for best pressure relief. These Luxe mattresses offer great pressure relief thanks in part to their thicker profile and pillow-top cover layer.
  • LEAST OFF-GASSING: The Dreamcloud takes the win here with only a minor smell out of the box and a single day of off-gassing.

So with these honorable mentions in mind, let’s get rolling and dive into the details of these mattresses.

Cooling Test

The cooling performances of the Helix mattresses definitely outperformed the performance of the Dreamcloud mattresses.

  • Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
  • Ending Temperature (after 5 minutes) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

Both Helix and Dreamcloud are hybrid mattresses, which typically offer better cooling performance than foam mattresses, for example. But as we can see here, not all hybrids are created equally.

Videos below show exactly how the heat dissipates off of the mattress during our tests.

The average amount of motion transfer is 5.83 m/s² (based on all of our tests to date).

Based on this average, the Dreamcloud Premier Rest and Helix Midnight Luxe have significantly less motion transfer than average.

The Dreamcloud original and Dreamcloud Premier are about average.

The Helix Midnight and Helix Plus have more motion transfer than average.

The level of motion transfer is documented in the video below. The graphs that follow each video show a quantifiable version of motion transfer based on accelerometer data.

Helix Midnight Motion Transfer Test

Helix Midnight motion transfer test

The Helix Midnight had the highest level of motion transfer, as you can see in the graphic above. Motion translated across the mattress well past 1 full second.

Helix Midnight Luxe Motion Transfer Test

Helix Midnight Luxe motion transfer chart

The Helix Midnight Luxe had great motion transfer, about 1/2 the amount of motion from the initial drop compared to the Helix Midnight, and that energy dissipated quicker as well.

Helix Plus Motion Transfer Test

Helix Plus motion transfer graph

The Helix Plus mattress had slightly more motion transfer than average with a relatively fast energy absorption rate.

Dreamcloud Motion Transfer Test

The Dreamcloud Premier Rest has significantly less motion transfer than the other Dreamcloud mattresses, as well as all of the Helix models.

The same ball drop as the other tests only generated about 1/3 of the energy on the Premier Rest compared to the Premier or Dreamcloud original hybrid. Furthermore, the energy was absorbed by 0.73 seconds.

Response Test

The response time on the Helix mattresses largely outperforms the response on most of the Dreamcloud mattresses.

The average response time across all mattresses that we’ve tested to date is 0.56 seconds to be mostly recovered and 0.94 seconds to be fully recovered.

The Helix Midnight Luxe and Helix Plus are the only two mattresses to actually perform better than average.

The Helix Midnight and Dreamcloud Premier followed closely behind and were just slightly beyond the average.

But the Dreamcloud Original and Dreamcloud Premier Rest were significantly slower than average. In fact, these two mattresses are the slowest mattresses we’ve tested to date (among over 130 mattresses that we’ve reviewed).

Sex Test

Our sex rating formula looks at 5 different factors weighted based on their importance.

sex percent chart

All factors are not equal in terms of significance, but each plays an important role.

Through our tests, we subjectively assigned the following percentages to each category within the overall sex score:

  • Bounce: 60%
  • Edge Support: 20%
  • Noise: 10%
  • Pressure Relief: 5%
  • Cooling: 5%

Using this method, we generated the following scores below:

The sex performance of all of these mattresses is fantastic for most of these mattresses.

Top-performing mattresses include the Dreamcloud Original hybrid, Dreamcloud Premier, and the Helix Midnight with scores in the upper 9’s.

The Helix Plus followed closely behind with a score of 9.6—the biggest disadvantage of this mattress being the noise from the springs.

DreamCloud Premier Rest mattress side
DreamCloud Premier Rest mattress side

The Dreamcloud Premier Rest and Helix Midnight Luxe had the lowest performance in this category with scores in the lower 9’s. Considering that both of these mattresses have lower bounce levels as well as pillow-top cover layer, these results were not that surprising.

Pressure Relief Test

Pressure relief on Dreamcloud was good (not great) and the Helix mattresses outperformed in this category.

Pressure Relief TestScoreComfort LayerSupport Layer
Dreamcloud9.05.5″8.5″
Dreamcloud Premier9.05.5″8.5″
Dreamcloud Premier Rest9.06.5″9.5″
Helix Midnight9.53.0″9.0″
Helix Midnight Luxe105.0″9.0″
Helix Plus9.55.0″8.0″

All of the Helix mattresses had scores between 9.5-10, but the Dreamcloud scores were 9.0. This is interesting in one way because the Dreamcloud mattresses actually have thicker comfort layers than Helix.

Helix Midnight Luxe Back Sleeping Contour

In many cases, thick comfort layers can be good indicators of better pressure relief since your body can engage more deeply without feeling pushback from deeper layer support.

But comparing Helix vs. Dreamcloud, Helix had better pressure relief, despite having thinner comfort layers than Dreamcloud.

Off-Gassing Test

Moving right along, let’s talk about off-gassing. Off-gassing isn’t a huge problem for the Helix or Dreamcloud mattresses.

Foam layers on the Helix Sunset

On average, most mattresses take around 3.5 days to off-gas. Every mattress that we tested here was faster than that.

If you’re looking for a mattress that is likely to be enjoyed by the widest range of sleepers, you may want to consider something in the 6 out of 10 firmness range.

This would include Dreamcloud Premier Rest, Helix Dusk, Helix Dusk Luxe, Helix Midnight, and the Helix Midnight Luxe.

firmness - 6 out of 10 - medium

7 out of 10

If you’re looking for something that is a little firmer consider the Dreamcloud Original, Dreamcloud Premier or the Helix Plus. Both the Premier and the Plus are good picks for lightweight to moderate-weighted back or stomach sleepers.

firmness - 7 out of 10 - medium firm

The Helix Plus is specifically designed to support heavier-weighted sleepers.

FOR KIDS: If you’re shopping for a child, you can also consider the Helix Kids—a flippable mattress with one side being 7 out of 10 and the other side slightly firmer at 8 out of 10. But one note—this mattress is designed for kids 12 and under.

8 out of 10

The Helix Dawn, Helix Dawn Luxe, Helix Twilight, and Helix Twilight Luxe all have a firmness of 8 out of 10.

An 8 out of 10 would be a more ideal firmness for heavier back or stomach sleepers.

Which Mattress Should You Buy?

Comparing Helix vs. Dreamcloud, there are advantages and disadvantages to both brands. Ultimately, your individual sleeper preferences and needs will determine which is the better option for you.

DreamCloud Premier mattress materials
DreamCloud Premier mattress materials

Should You Buy the Helix Midnight?

I would recommend the Helix Midnight if you’re looking for:

  • Lower price point. The Helix Midnight is a more budget-friendly version of the Helix Midnight Luxe and is a great value.
  • Balanced feel. This mattress has a balanced feel with a respectable score (9.43 overall).

Click here to learn more or to check the price of the Helix Midnight mattress.

Should You Buy the Helix Midnight Luxe?

I would recommend the Helix Midnight Luxe if you’re looking for:

  • Low motion transfer. The Midnight Luxe has the lowest motion transfer among all mattresses tested in this comparison. If you are easily disturbed by your partner (or yourself), low motion transfer can be an important issue.
  • Fantastic pressure relief. This mattress has a thick pillow top cover, thick layer of comfort foams, and a supportive coil base. These separate factors combined provide excellent pressure relief for all sleeping positions, but would be especially beneficial for side sleepers.

Click here to learn more or to check the price of the Helix Midnight Luxe mattress.

Should You Buy the Helix Plus?

I would recommend the Helix Plus if you’re looking for:

  • Support for heavier sleepers. The Helix Plus has a 13″ thick profile, thicker comfort layers, and tied for the best edge support. These factors combined with the firmer feel make this mattress a good option for heavier sleepers (especially 300+ pounds).
  • Fast response. This mattress also has the least amount of sinkage and the fastest response time among all mattresses tested in this review.

Click here to learn more or to check the price of the Helix Plus mattress.

Should You Buy the Dreamcloud?

I would recommend the Dreamcloud Original Hybrid if you’re looking for:

  • Classic memory foam. This mattress has a slower response time and could be more closely compared to the feel of classic memory foam, offering more hug and a deeper level of sinkage.
  • Budget price. If you need a mattress under $1000 for a queen, the Dreamcloud is still a solid option. Although performance may not match that or Helix, it is still a solid mattress if you’re on a budget and like the feel.

Click here to learn more or to check the price of the Dreamcloud mattress.

Should You Buy the Dreamcloud Premier?

I would recommend the Dreamcloud Premier if you’re looking for:

  • Low levels of motion transfer. The Dreamcloud Premier offers low levels of motion transfer, which can be great for sensitive sleepers.
  • Higher levels of bounce. Despite the limited motion transfer, this mattress still has higher levels of bounce, compared to the other hybrids in this comparison—a total of 11.03″.

Click here to learn more or to check the price of the Dreamcloud Premier mattress.

Should You Buy the Dreamcloud Premier Rest?

I would recommend the Dreamcloud Premier Rest if you’re looking for:

  • Lowest levels of motion transfer. The Dreamcloud Premier Rest has the lowest levels of motion transfer, among all mattresses tested in this comparison.
  • Pillow-top cover. The Premier Rest offers a 2.0″ pillow-top cover which can be advantageous to sleepers looking for that plush top feel.
