Each best list is put through a customized performance analysis with specialized consideration given to our objective & data-driven performance tests. In addition, we consider mattress type, design, materials, value, price, and more.

Performance Testing Factors

For our Best Mattress for Seniors list, we based our selections on the best-scoring mattresses, according to our battery of testing and formulaic-driven scoring.

Our tests analyze performance across 8 critical factors, including cooling, motion transfer, response time, edge support, sex, pressure relief, off-gassing, and company. In addition, we also test sinkage and bounce (though these are not scoring factors).

Our tests include objective and quantifiable data whenever possible. In addition, we use subjective assessment supported by data to round out our testing process.

Our scores are based on mathematical formulas and equations that utilize inputs from our data-driven testing.

You can see our complete testing and scoring process here.

In choosing the best mattress for seniors, we looked at the totality of all of our tests, scores, data, and reviews to date. We analyzed this data alongside our established best mattress framework here.

When selecting the best mattress for seniors, we’re looking at a combination of overall scoring performance, firmness, height, specific performance criteria, and US availability.

To be included within this list all mattresses:

  • Had to have a firmness of 6 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm (this is a medium-firm feel)
  • Had to have a pressure relief score of 9.0 or higher
  • Had to have a edge support score of 9.0 or higher
  • Had to have a cooling score of 9.0 or higher
  • Had to have an 11″ thick profile or thicker
  • Had to have a performance score of 8.88 or higher
  • Had to to be available for purchase within the USA
  • Latex and latex hybrid mattresses were limited to the top 2 picks by score. Latex has a polarizing feel that some love and some hate. It’s a far more polarizing feel than poly foam or memory foam. See our best latex mattresses list for more.

Best For

  • Exceptional cooling performance, optional cooling cover
  • Deep-contouring pillow top, while maintaining support
  • Sleepers of all body types and sleeper weights (up to 300 lbs.)

Considerations

  • Returns are free, but exchanges cost $49
  • Sex performance is about average
  • Very deep sinkage may not be ideal for all sleepers

Our Verdict

The WinkBed is a 13.50″ hybrid mattress that has a pillow top cover, poly foam comfort material, and a pocketed coil base. You can choose the standard cover or the frost cooling cover for better cooling performance (additional $125).

The WinkBed is available in three different firmnesses—Softer, Luxury Firm, and Firmer. We have tested all three firmness levels and found the following: the WinkBed Softer had a soft feel (4 out of 10), the WinkBed Luxury Firm had a medium-firm feel (6 out of 10), and the WinkBed Firmer had a firm feel (8 out of 10). There is also the Winkbed Plus, which has a medium-firm (6) feel, ideal for heavier-weighted sleepers over 250 lbs.

In our tests, the WinkBed Luxury Firm had very deep sinkage and low levels of bounce. The body contour is balanced on this mattress and is a good option for sleepers who want to sleep “in” the mattress.

For seniors
, I like this mattress because of its thick comfort layer (4.5″ thick), supportive edges, and exceptional cooling performance. The optional cooling cover is a nice upgrade for sleepers who struggle with heat retention. Winkbed also has a fast material responsive, making it easier to get in and out of bed.

WinkBed has an exceptional performance score of 9.55 overall, which ranks it as the #1 mattresses we’ve tested to date.

The WinkBed in queen size is $1,799, which is 19% more expensive than the average hybrid mattress we’ve tested. If you want fantastic performance at a price that is still sub-2K, the WinkBed is a phenomenal value mattress.

  • Fast material response time despite having deeper levels of sinkage
  • Exceptional pressure relief for all sleeping positions

Considerations

  • Higher levels of motion transfer
  • Deep sinkage may not be right for all sleeper preferences
  • Higher price—27% more expensive than the average hybrid mattress

Our Verdict

The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX mattress is a 14.00″ hybrid mattress made of a combination of cooling pillow top cover, multiple foam types, and a pocketed coil + support foam base.

The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX is available in three firmness levels — Soft, Medium, and Firm. We tested the Medium version and found it to have a medium-firm feel—6 out of 10 on our firmness scale.

This mattress has deep sinkage and high levels of bounce. It has a balanced level of contour and hug, making it a good match for a wide range of sleeper preferences.

For seniors, I like the ThermoBalance LX because the hybrid design provides exceptional edge support, making it easier to get on and off the bed. It has a 5.25″ comfort layer, which helps with pressure relief as well. In addition, the fast material recovery speed helps make the mattress easy to move around on.

In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 9.50, ranking the LX in the top 1% of all mattresses tested to date.

The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX is $1,899 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 27% more expensive than the average hybrid mattress we’ve tested. The price is higher, but if you want exceptional performance, a 365-night trial period, and a lifetime warranty, the LX is the mattress to beat.

Best For

  • Incredible cooling performance with optional cooling pillow top
  • Thick, quality memory foam creates fantastic pressure relief
  • Edge support is extremely robust

Considerations

  • Memory foam feel creates low bounce and more average material resposiveness
  • Lackluster sex performance
  • Price tag is higher than average by 31%

Our Verdict

The Helix Midnight Luxe mattress is a 14.00″ hybrid mattress comprised of a pillow top cover, memory foam, poly foam, pocketed coils, and support foam. The standard cover is Tencel, or you can upgrade to the GlacioTex cooling cover for an additional $199, which our tests show offers better cooling performance.

The Helix Midnight Luxe is available in a single firmness level — medium-firm with a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale, where 10 is the most firm. Helix offers a wide range of other firmness levels in the Luxe collection. You can see a full list here.

This mattress has moderate sinkage and low levels of bounce. This creates a stable surface that provides a balanced level of body contour for sleepers of all positions.

For seniors, I like the Midnight Luxe because of its high-profile design, supportive edges, and exceptional pressure relief. The cooling cover is also an attractive upgrade if you struggle with night sweats or other issues with heat retention.

In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 9.49, ranking the mattress in the top 1% of all mattresses tested to date.

The Helix Midnight Luxe costs $1,899 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 31% more than average. For most sleepers, especially those who sleep on their side and like the feel of memory foam, this $445 difference is well worth it.

Best For

  • Pillow-top cover with moderate levels of sinkage
  • Coil construction provides a responsive feel and excellent edge support
  • Free white glove delivery, setup, and removal of the old mattress

Considerations

  • More motion transfer than the average mattress
  • $99 return fee
  • Costs more than the average coil mattress (but also has better performance)

Our Verdict

The Saatva Classic has a thickness of 11.5″ or 14.5″, depending on personal preference, and a coil-on-coil construction. The cover features a pillow top, followed by a small amount of comfort foam and two coil layers.

The Saatva is available in three firmness levels—Plush Soft, Luxury Firm, or Firm. We have tested all three versions of this mattress. The Plush Soft had a soft feel (4 out of 10), the Luxury Firm had a medium-firm feel (6 out of 10), and the Firm version had a firm feel (8 out of 10).

The Saatva Classic has a more traditional coil feel and less foam than a more typical hybrid mattress. This combination of materials gives the mattress moderate sinkage and very high bounce.

For seniors, the traditional feel of a coil mattress can be an attractive option. The coil design provides good edge support and is extremely responsive. The higher levels of bounce also make it easier to move around and prevent any type of “stuck” feeling. Beyond the strong performance, the white-glove delivery is hard to ignore. Saatva includes free mattress setup, disposal of packing materials, and haul-away of an old mattress.

This mattress has a fantastic performance score of 9.47 overall, which ranks it as the #1 coil mattress, as well as within the top 1% among all mattress types we’ve tested to date.

A Saatva Classic costs $1,853 for a queen-sized mattress. This is nearly 2X the average coil mattress price we’ve tested. That said, when we compare the Saatva Classic to other non-coil options with similar performance, its price is more in line with what we’ve seen.

I would recommend the Saatva Classic for older sleepers who enjoy a more traditional coil-based mattress feel. It’s also a good choice for those who want full-service delivery and removal of an old mattress (included for free).

  • Excellent pressure relief for all sleeping positions

Considerations

  • Extremely deep sinkage may not suit all sleepers’ preferences
  • Off-gassing duration of 7 days
  • Sex performance is good, but far from great

Our Verdict

The Leesa Sapira Chill mattress is a 13.50″ hybrid mattress with a cool-to-the-touch pillow top cover, a poly foam comfort layer, pocketed coil support, and a support foam base.

The Leesa Sapira Chill is available in three firmness levels — Plush, Medium-Firm, and Firm. We have tested the medium-firm version and found it to have a medium-firm feel, a 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale.

This mattress has extremely deep sinkage and low levels of bounce. Body contour is balanced on this mattress, despite the extremely deep levels of sinkage.

For seniors, this mattress can still be a good match because of its exceptional cooling performance and pressure relief score. Edge support isn’t the best we’ve seen among other mattresses in this guide, but it is still better than average.

In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 9.34, ranking the mattress in the top 4% of all mattresses tested to date.

The Leesa Sapira Chill costs $1,679 for a queen-sized mattress, 8% more than the average hybrid mattress we’ve tested. With its significantly higher overall score, the Sapira Chill offers strong value for older sleepers who want to sleep “in” the mattress.

  • Fantastic pressure relief with a 5.00″ comfort layer

Considerations

  • Higher levels of motion transfer, 12% more than average
  • Material responsiveness is slightly worse than average
  • Priced 22% more expensive than the average hybrid

Our Verdict

The Bear Elite Ultra Hybrid is a 14.00″ hybrid mattress made of memory foam, microcoils, poly foam, pocketed coils, and a support foam base. One note: in the version that we originally tested of this mattress, the pillow top was 1.25″ thick. But this mattress was recently redesigned in September 2026, and now the pillow top cover is only 1.00″ thick.

The Bear Elite Ultra Hybrid is available in three firmness levels — Soft, Medium, and Firm. In our tests, the Medium version had a medium-firm feel, 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale, where 10 is the most firm.

The Medium version of this mattress also has deep sinkage and moderate levels of bounce. It has a balanced level of contour, making it an attractive option for many sleepers.

For seniors, I really like this mattress because of its thick profile, great cooling, and exceptional pressure relief. The 10/10 edge support is also attractive if you prefer to sleep closer to the edge of the mattress.

In our performance tests, the Bear Elite Ultra earned an overall score of 9.32, ranking the mattress in the top 3% of all mattresses tested to date.

The Bear Elite Ultra Hybrid is $1,856 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 22% more than the average hybrid. The price is high, but so is the performance. For seniors who are looking for a mattress that will last and / or want multiple firmness options, or the Bear Elite Ultra is a great option.

  • Budget-friendly price for a memory foam hybrid
  • #1 ranked memory foam hybrid we’ve tested to date
  • Outstanding pressure relief and edge support performance

Considerations

  • Limited bounce hurts sex performance
  • Memory foam creates slower responsiveness
  • Memory foam body-contouring hug isn’t ideal for all sleepers

Our Verdict

The Glacier Apex mattress is a 14.25″ memory foam hybrid mattress made up of a plush quilted cover, copper-infused memory foam, gel-infused memory foam, poly foam, and a pocketed coil unit.

The Glacier Apex is available in three firmness levels — Soft, Medium, or Firm. We tested the Medium version and found it to have a medium-firm feel, 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale, where 10 is the most firm.

The Medium version of this mattress has moderate sinkage and low levels of bounce. It offers a high degree of contour without overly enveloping your body with material.

For seniors, I like the Apex because of its 5.0″ comfort layer, dramatic contour for more hug, and excellent cooling. Many times, if you want a memory foam feel, the cooling tends to struggle. But that’s not the case on the Glacier Apex. In addition, this mattress has incredibly strong edge support.

In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 9.27, ranking the mattress in the top 6% of all mattresses tested to date. For memory foam hybrids, the Apex is the top-scoring mattress that we’ve tested to date.

The Glacier Apex is $1,599 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 17% lower than average. For such a top-tier mattress, especially for those looking for a memory foam feel, this mattress has incredible value.

  • Great pressure relief for all sleeping positions

Considerations

  • Worse sex performance, largely due to low levels of bounce
  • 7-day off-gassing duration
  • Dramatic body-contour may not be right for all sleeper preferences

Our Verdict

The Dreamcloud Premier Hybrid mattress is a 13.50″ hybrid mattress made of memory foam, poly foam, and a pocketed coil and support foam base.

The Dreamcloud Premier Hybrid is available in a single firmness level — medium-firm. This is a 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale.

This mattress has moderate sinkage and low levels of bounce. The upper memory foam layers give this mattress a dramatic contour and lots of hug.

For seniors, this dramatic contour can be great for pressure relief and soothing sore joints, hips, or back. It also has solid cooling, low motion transfer, and fast material response time. The material responsiveness is especially impressive given its dramatic contour and memory foam feel. Faster responsiveness improves ease of movement.

In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 9.08, ranking the mattress in the top 20% of all mattresses tested to date.

The Dreamcloud Premier Hybrid is $1,099 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 30% less expensive than the average hybrid. Based on this list of mattresses for seniors, the Dreamcloud Premier Hybrid is the most affordable mattress in this guide.
