How is Sleep Cult Different?

The Sleep Cult is a 12.50″ hybrid mattress with an overall performance level that is higher than average and a price that is also slightly higher than the average hybrid as well.

Advantages

Specific advantages of the Sleep Cult mattress include improved cooling performance, better motion isolation, and a fast material response time. Edge support, sex, and pressure relief are notably better than average as well.

Even off-gassing is one day faster than average, rounding out the above-average performance across the board.

Neutral Factors

This mattress has moderate sinkage and bounce, which contributes to the balanced feel. While sinkage and bounce are neutral factors, this type of a feel like will be appealing to a wide range of sleepers.

Disadvantages

The only real disadvantage is being slightly more expensive than average, as well as the additional fees for US orders ($200 extra). If you are located in Canada, this mattress has virtually no disadvantages and incredible performance.

The Sleep Cult has excellent cooling. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of heat retention around my body.

This mattress is equipped with multiple material and design choices that are helping to improve cooling. First up, we have phase change material within the cover. Those PCMs create a notable cool-to-the-touch feel on the surface of the mattress.

Even while lying in the same position on the mattress for an extended period of time the cover maintained much of the cooler feel.

• Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
• Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
• Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

In addition to the cooling cover, this mattress uses a gel-infused poly foam within the 2nd foam layer and has a more open-cell structure poly foam as the topmost foam layer.

The gel pulls heat away from the sleeper’s body, while the open-cell foam improves breathability. Lastly, we have the hybrid design itself, which brings more airflow into the mattress and aids in breathability.

In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 90.2° F. This is 0.1° cooler than the average of 90.3° F, based on all of our tests to date.

After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 5.2 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 0.4 degrees cooler than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.8 degrees.

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is excellent.

The Sleep Cult has moderate sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.26″. This is 0.01″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.25″, based on all of our tests to date.

The mattress creates a balanced body-contouring hug. The moderate sinkage depth allows the body to sink down, providing comfort and pressure relief. However, we see the coil unit pushing back with strong support. As a result, sinkage is neither too deep nor too shallow.

The coil unit is zoned, meaning it creates greater support in the middle of the mattress (where most of the weight will be located on the mattress). Overall, I found the sinkage dynamic to be balanced, even, and non-polarizing. It’s the type of feel that all sleeping positions and most sleepers will find comfortable.

The Sleep Cult has an extremely low level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 4.64 m/s². This is 47% less motion transfer than the average of 8.80 m/s².

This mattress is equipped with the incredibly high-performance Leggett and Plat quantum edge coil unit. We’ve tested this particular coil unit on other mattresses as well and always found it offers incredibly strong overall performance, including for low motion transfer.

Certainly, the thicker-than-average comfort layer is helping to dissipate motion and energy on the mattress. That said, in my view, the coil unit does most of the heavy lifting when it comes to lowering motion transfer.

These particular coils seem to do an amazing job at allowing for bounce, but isolating that bounce and motion to a small area on the mattress.

In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.25 seconds. Motion drops off notably thereafter.

By 0.94 seconds, we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy, which is 0.03 seconds longer than the average motion duration of 0.91 seconds. While motion duration was about average, motion intensity was significantly better than average.

When we look at the complete picture of motion transfer data, I’m extremely pleased with what we see, and I expect most sleepers will find this level of motion to be more than satisfactory.

The Sleep Cult has an extremely fast mostly recovered response time and a very fast fully recovered response time.

In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.2 seconds, which is 0.22 seconds faster than the average of 0.42 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.

In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.5 seconds, which is 0.53 seconds faster than the average of 1.03 seconds. These recovery speeds are very nearly instant.

Most of the material used within the Sleep Cult mattress springs back to shape incredibly quickly. The faster material recovery speed helps to ensure this mattress is easy to move around on.

In addition, you’ll never feel stuck, have trouble changing positions, or getting in / out of bed. Based on our tests and data, I expect most sleepers will find the material recovery speed to be more than satisfactory.

The Sleep Cult has a moderate level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 9.94″. This is 1.29″ more bounce than the average of 8.65″, based on all of our tests to date. There are two big reasons for the higher bounce.

First, this mattress uses an all poly foam comfort layer. Or, put another way, there is no memory foam or other foam layers that highly absorb and disperse energy. The foams are all resilient and spring back to shape quickly.

Second, this mattress is equipped with the Leggett and Platt Quantum Edge Coil unit. The Quantum Edge is a coil unit we’ve tested several times before and have always been impressed with its performance. This high-performance pocketed coil unit delivers incredible support, resiliency, and also, bounce.

The higher bounce makes ease of movement excellent. It also greatly improves sex. Oftentimes, higher bounce also means motion transfer is worse. However, that wasn’t the case here. The coil unit does a nice job at creating more bounce, while also localizing the bounce to a smaller area, reducing motion transfer.

Overall, I’m pleased with this level of bounce, especially as it relates to ease of movement, sex, and motion transfer.

The Sleep Cult has outstanding sitting edge support and excellent lying edge support.

In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.00″. This is 0.85″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 3.85″, based on all of our tests to date.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was excellent in all sleeping positions. The Sleep Cult mattress is equipped with reinforced coils running along the entire perimeter of the mattress.

These coils, the moderate sinkage depth, and general high quality materials of the mattress are able to deliver excellent edge support.

In our coil thickness test, we measured a notably higher gauge for the edge coils. The edge coils measured 13.75 gauge, while the inner coils were 14.50 gauge in the center and 15.50 gauge for the head / foot. Lower gauge wires are thicker and having a thicker 13.75 gauge coil along the edge is beneficial for performance.

The Sleep Cult has excellent sex performance. First up, let’s start with the perfect scores where we measured minimal noise and 10/10 edge support.

In our sitting sinkage tests at the edge, we measured just 3.00” of sitting sinkage compression. That’s considerably better than average and enough to earn the Sleep Cult a perfect edge score. Having more supportive edges increases the usable surface area for amorous activities.

Moving on, we also measured excellent performance for pressure relief and cooling. The strong performance there helps to ensure the mattress is comfortable.

Lastly, we have bounce, which earned a good score, though one that didn’t rise to the excellent or outstanding level. In the world of sex, more bounce is better. Sleep Cult has an above-average level of bounce.

That above-average bounce combined with the other excellent and outstanding performance areas earned the mattress an excellent sex score that’s considerably better than average.

The Sleep Cult has an excellent level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant pressure points on my body.

The mattress is equipped with 5.0″ of comfort material, which is 0.62″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.38″, based on all of our tests to date.

Sleep Cult uses all poly foam comfort layers and no memory foam. As a result, the comfort dynamic has a more modest body-contouring hug. The feel is balanced, even, highly responsive, highly supportive, and non-polarizing. It’s a feeling that many different types of sleepers can enjoy.

That said, if you do want and prefer a strong memory foam hug around the body, you should know that that is not what this mattress feels like.

In our pressure mapping tests, all PSI levels were where I hoped to see them, and we did not see any notable pressure spikes on the map. The mattress does a nice job at evenly distributing the body’s weight and avoiding undue pressure buildup.

When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be excellent.

The Sleep Cult had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 7 days. This is 0.6 days shorter than the average smell duration of 7.6 days.

Comparing 121+ brands tested to date, the average trial period is 195 nights, 180 nights less than Sleep Cult offers. The average warranty is 13 years. Given that Sleep Cult is backed by a 15-year warranty, these terms look pretty attractive. Granted, this excludes the 43% of mattresses that offer lifetime warranties.

The Sleep Cult mattress is available in three firmness options—Plush, Medium-Firm, and Firm.

Plush Version

We did not test the plush version , but I would estimate it at a 4 out of 10 where 10 is the most firm. This is based on my analysis of its design and experience from testing over 500 mattresses to date.

Medium Firm Version

We tested the Medium-Firm version for this review, and I agree it has a medium-firm feel, which is a 6 out of 10.

Firm Version

Finally, I estimate that the Firm version would have an 8 rating, which I classify as having a firm feel.

Support on the Sleep Cult is outstanding. During our tests, I felt well supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress is equipped with a 7.5″ support layer. This is 0.48″ thinner than the average support layer thickness of 7.98″, based on all of our tests to date.

Mattresses that create the best support meet two big requirements. First, they create a neutral spinal alignment for the body. Second, they create plenty of comfort and pressure relief. Sleep Cult met both of these requirements without any issues.

This mattress is available in 3 firmness levels, including plush, medium-firm, and firm. We tested the medium-firm, which has a 6 out of 10 firmness. The medium-firm is the best choice for most sleepers and is a good fit for all sleeping positions.

If you sleep exclusively on your side, are light-weighted, and/or you just love a soft feel, then the plush version could work. If you sleep exclusively on your back and stomach, are heavier-weighted, and/or you just love a firm feel, then the firm version could work. That being said, the vast majority of sleepers will be best supported by the medium-firm version.

In all mattress tests, we make it a point to cut the mattress open to examine the material quality. In doing so, I’m pleased with what we found. The poly foam layers ranged from a 1.97 PCF to a 3.14 PCF. The 1.97 PCF is a good density level, while the 3.14 PCF is outstanding.

Higher density foams typically last longer, perform better, and sag less. I’m also really pleased that the stated density levels provided by the manufacturer were essentially exactly the same as we measured in our densimeter tests.

Typically, mattress brands don’t like to provide the foam density levels, as often it’s not something for them to be proud of.

In this case, Sleep Cult did, and for good reason. These material specs, including the coil gauge specs, are quite impressive (especially at this price).

In our digital caliper tests, we measured coil gauges ranging from 13.75 to 15.50. The edge coils are using the thicker 13.75 gauge and then we see zoned coils with a 14.50 gauge in the center and a 15.50 gauge coil at the head / foot.

The zoned support creates more pushback where the body carries more weight, which helps to improve support and reduce sagging.

Lastly, this mattress uses 884 coils in the Queen size. Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident most sleepers will find the support on the Sleep Cult to be outstanding.

The Sleep Cult mattress has a 1.5″ quilted cover that is finished with a phase-change material, according to the manufacturer.

It is quilted with a tufted look, giving the mattress a luxurious aesthetic and a consistent color on the top and sides. There is a pillowtop design that gives some visual separation between the comfort layer and the support layer.

And then support handles are stitched into the support layer of the mattress. This makes it easier to transport the mattress or simply rotate it for more even wear and longevity.

The comfort layer is 5.00″ thick, including the 1.5″ quilted cover. Beneath the cover is a 1.75″ poly foam (green foam) followed by a secondary 1.75″ poly foam (pale yellow foam).

The topmost poly foam is a denser foam, 3.14 PCF and the secondary poly foam is less dense (only 1.97 PCF).

A 0.25″ layer of fiber batting provides separation between the comfort materials and the support materials.

The support layer is 7.50″ thick and made of a 7.50″ pocketed coil unit. These coils are zoned, as I mentioned above, and range in thickness from 13.75 gauge to 15.50 gauge.

Sleep Cult is a newer brand, having just launched in Summer 2026. But it enters the mattress industry as a seasoned player with over a decade of experience. Sleep Cult was founded by Nathan Nielson; the same person is the co-founder of Hamuq, a Canadian mattress brand that launched in 2016.
