Is The Tempurpedic Mattress Toxic?

Derek Hales

Updated

No, Tempurpedic mattresses are not toxic. The company only uses CertiPUR-US-certified foams, which contain no harmful chemicals.

TEMPUR-Material and other foams in these mattresses are free of heavy metals, formaldehyde, phthalates, ozone depleters, and “Tris” flame retardants. Additionally, they’re low in VOCs (volatile organic compounds) and meet the highest safety standards.

In our smell tests, the four Tempurpedic mattresses all had a strong smell upon their unboxing, and the mattresses took an average of 19 days to fully off-gas. The average off-gassing period of over 400+ mattresses tested to date is 7.13 days.
