Our Verdict
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX is a 14.00″ hybrid mattress made of latex foam, memory foam, and poly foam. It has a pocketed coil core and a support foam base. The LX is the latex version of the ThermoBalance hybrid and is positioned one tier below the ThermoBalance LX Elite (a higher-priced alternative).
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX is available in three firmness levels — soft, medium-firm, and firm. We tested the Medium version, which has a medium-firm feel, 6 out of 10 in our firmness tests.
This mattress has deep sinkage and high levels of bounce. It has a balanced contour, which makes this mattress an attractive choice for a wider range of sleeper preferences.
In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 9.32, ranking the mattress in the top 4% of all mattresses tested to date.
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX is $1,899 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 26% more expensive than the average hybrid mattress. Although the price is high, the performance is significantly higher than average as well. For a high-profile hybrid that comes in multiple firmnesses, the ThermoBalance LX is a great option.

How is Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX Different?
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX is a 14.00″ hybrid mattress with an overall performance level that is significantly higher than the average and a price that is also a bit higher than average as well.
Advantages
The ThermoBalance LX has many advantages, including better cooling, faster material responsiveness, better edge support, and 10/10 pressure relief. The LX is 14″ thick and has a 5.25″ comfort layer, which contributes to its fantastic pressure relief.
Off-gassing is faster as well, fully off-gassing in only 4 days, 3 days faster than the 7-day average. Lastly, sex performance is above average, largely due to higher levels of bounce, which helps to keep intimacy active.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has deep sinkage and high bounce. Both bounce and sinkage are generally considered neutral factors since different sleepers may have different preferences in these areas.

But generally speaking, the ThermoBalance LX is going to be a more engaging mattress than average, given these feel factors.
Disadvantages
The biggest disadvantage of the ThermoBalance LX is higher levels of motion transfer, which is 11% more than the average mattress. If you are a sensitive sleeper or wake up easily, this could be an issue, but not all sleepers will be bothered by this.
Cooling Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX has outstanding cooling. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of heat retention around my body.
Baseline Temp.
78.5° F
Max. Temp.
89.7° F
Ending Temp.
81.9° F
This mattress is equipped with multiple cooling materials and design elements that help to improve cooling.
First up, the cooling cover that’s infused with cooling fibers. The cooling cover had a notable cool-to-the-touch feel and maintained the cooler feel for the duration of our cooling tests.
Max. Temp.

Ending Temp.

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
In addition, the topmost quilted foam within the cover is infused with phase change materials (PCMs). PCMs are tuned to maintain an ideal cooler temperature.
Lastly, we have high-quality foams (including a layer of Talalay latex) that all seem to breathe well and a hybrid design, which brings ample airflow into the mattress. These collective material and design choices are all working together to deliver fantastic cooling performance.
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 89.7° F. This is 0.5° cooler than the average of 90.2° F, based on all of our tests to date.
After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 4.2 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 0.6 degrees less cool than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.8 degrees.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is outstanding.
Sinkage Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX has deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.44″.
This is 0.19″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.25″, based on all of our tests to date.
Sinkage Depth
2.44″
Sinkage Feel
Deep
Body Contour
Balanced
The mattress creates a balanced body contouring hug. The ThermoBalance LX is equipped with an array of foam and material types, including Talalay latex, memory foam, poly foam, coils, and a pillow top.
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

This combination creates a more balanced, even, and non-polarizing type of feel that many different sleepers can enjoy.
The mix of different material types means that no one material creates an overpowering feel. While latex is the top layer, it doesn’t feel like a latex mattress.
While memory foam is used in the core, you don’t have an excessive memory foam hug. The different materials work together to create a more even and balanced feel.
Motion Transfer Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX has a moderate level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 9.78 m/s². This is 11% more motion transfer than the average of 8.79 m/s².
Accel. Range
9.78 m/s²
Motion Duration
1.21 seconds
This mattress is equipped with a pocketed coil unit, Talalay latex foam near the top, and other highly responsive poly foam layers.
These materials are all highly resilient and spring back to shape quickly. The result is more bounce, which creates more motion transfer. While the quilted foams and memory foam layer are helping to reduce that motion transfer, they aren’t impactful enough to keep motion below average.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.25 seconds.
Motion declines thereafter, but we also measure a secondary energy spike from 0.5 to 0.6 seconds. By 1.21 seconds, we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy, which is 0.32 seconds longer than the average motion duration of 0.89 seconds.
Motion Transfer Over Time

Both motion intensity and motion duration are slightly worse than average and as a result, the total motion transfer experience is also worse than average.
Response Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX has an extremely fast mostly recovered response time and a very fast fully recovered response time.
Mostly Recovered
0.2 sec.
Fully Recovered
0.6 sec.
In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.2 seconds, which is 0.22 seconds faster than the average of 0.42 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.
In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.6 seconds, which is 0.42 seconds faster than the average of 1.02 seconds.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
Most of the materials within this mattress spring back to shape effectively instantly, including the Talalay latex, poly foam, and pocketed coil unit.
However, the memory foam layer takes a moment to fully recover back to its original shape after it has been decompressed.
While the fully recovered speeds are a touch slower than instant, they are still more than fast enough to facilitate great ease of movement and prevent any type of “stuck” feeling on the mattress.
Bounce Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX has a high level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 10.04″. This is 1.34″ more bounce than the average of 8.71″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Depth
6.04″
Max. Rebound
4.00″
Total Bounce
10.04″
That extra bounce is the product of the hybrid design, Talalay latex, and a highly responsive poly foam layer. Each of these layers is highly resilient and delivers notable bounce.
That said, this mattress also uses memory foam and quilted foam, which have a suppressive effect on total bounce. Nevertheless, the mattress still has more bounce than average.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max. Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
That extra bounce helps to facilitate ease of movement and improve sex performance. However, more bounce is also the reason that motion transfer earned a worse score than average.
As a result, you should consider what’s most important to you: low motion transfer or better ease of movement and sex?
Edge Support Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX has excellent sitting edge support and outstanding lying edge support.
Max. Sinkage
3.25″
Lying Support
Outstanding
Reinforced Edge
Yes
In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.25″. This is 0.60″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 3.85″, based on all of our tests to date.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was outstanding in all sleeping positions.
This mattress is equipped with reinforced edge support coils that run along the left and right sides of the mattress. These extra supportive coils have a notable effect on edge support for both sitting and lying.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

That said, while we have reinforced edge coils along the sides of the mattress, they don’t extend along the foot or head of the mattress.
This is most likely a choice to help reduce the costs, though ideally, I’d prefer to see full perimeter reinforcing edge support. Nevertheless, overall edge support performance is fantastic and I expect most sleepers will find this level of support more than sufficient.
Sex Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX has excellent sex performance. On the positive side, noise is minimal and both pressure relief and cooling are outstanding.

Edge support earned an excellent score with just 3.25” of sitting edge sinkage. This is significantly better than average. An extra supportive edge extends the usable surface area of the mattress and is beneficial for sex.
Lastly, we have bounce, which we measured at 10.04”. This is more than average and it’s enough to help make sex less tiring, less strenuous, and more fun.
| Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bounce | 65% | 8.8 | High |
| Edge Support | 20% | 9.7 | Excellent |
| Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
| Pressure Relief | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |
| Cooling | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |
Fortunately, there are no major weaknesses for sex on this mattress. Sure, bounce could be higher and edge support ever so slightly better, but outside of that, there’s just not much to wish for on the ThermoBalance LX for sex.
Pressure Relief Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX has an outstanding level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant pressure points on my body. Overall, I found the mattress to be incredibly comfortable.
Comfort Layer
5.25″
Support Layer
8.75″
The mattress is equipped with 5.25″ of comfort material, which is 0.95″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.3″, based on all of our tests to date.
This mattress uses a mix of different foam types, including Talalay latex, poly foam, and memory foam, along with a hybrid design.
The result is that no one layer feels overpowering. Instead, they work together to create a blended, mixed, and even feel that many different types of sleepers will enjoy.

In addition, this mattress uses a thick pillow top cover. Notably, Brooklyn Bedding doesn’t call it a pillow top on their product page, but given the design, materials, and thickness, it feels more like a pillow top than any other type of cover, in my view.
In any case, the combination of the pillow top cover, mix of foam types, and pocketed coil unit works together to deliver an incredibly comfortable feel and fantastic pressure relief.

In our objective pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 0.56, which is well within the 1.0 PSI threshold I ideally want to see.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Side Sleepers | 0.09 | 0.52 |
Pressure Map – Back Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Back Sleepers | 0.05 | 0.56 |
Pressure Map – Stomach Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Stomach Sleepers | 0.06 | 0.27 |
When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be outstanding.
Off-Gassing Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 4 days. This is 3.4 days shorter than the average smell duration of 7.4 days.
Initial Smell Strength

Off-Gassing Period

Company
Brooklyn Bedding mattresses come with a 120-night trial period and a lifetime warranty. Shipping is free. Returns are $99.
| Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
|---|---|---|---|
| Returns | 40% | 7.0 | $99 |
| Trial Period | 30% | 8.0 | 120 nights |
| Warranty | 20% | 10 | Lifetime |
| Shipping | 10% | 10 | $0 |
| Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
Comparing 114+ brands tested to date, the average trial period is 190 nights, 70 nights more than Brooklyn Bedding offers. It is also backed by a lifetime warranty, a benefit only offered by 40% of the mattresses that we test.

The biggest disadvantage here is the $99 return fee. Considering all that I’ve tested to date, 77% of mattresses offer free returns, which has become a perk that many sleepers have come to expect.
How firm is Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX?
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX is available in three different firmness options—Soft, Medium, and Firm.
Soft Version
We did not test the Soft version, but we estimate it would have a 4 out of 10 rating, where 10 is the most firm.

Medium Version
We tested the Medium version for this review and found it had a medium-firm feel that comes in at a 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale.

Firm Version
We also haven’t tested the Firm version, but we estimate that it would come in at an 8 out of 10 on the firmness scale.

Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX is outstanding. During our tests, I felt well supported in all sleeping positions.
The mattress is equipped with an 8.75″ support layer. This is 0.79″ thicker than the average support layer thickness of 7.96″, based on all of our tests to date.
For a mattress to create ideal support, it must support the body, maintaining a neutral spinal alignment, while also creating sufficient comfort and pressure relief.
The ThermoBalance LX meets and exceeds both of those requirements without issue.
| Support Factor | Data |
|---|---|
| Comfort Layer | 5.25″ |
| Support Layer | 8.75″ |
| Firmness | Soft, Medium-Firm, and Firm |
| Body Contour | Balanced |
| Zoned Support | Yes |
| Reinforced Edge | Yes |
This mattress is available in 3 firmnesses: soft, medium, and firm. We tested the medium, which we rated at a 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale, where 10 is the most firm.
This is the ideal and best choice for the vast majority of sleepers. If you’re an exclusive side sleeper or lighter weighted, then the soft version could also work.

Likewise, if you’re an exclusive back or stomach sleeper or heavier weighted, then the firm version could work.
That said, the vast majority of sleepers should go with the medium.
Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.
Soft Version
| Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleeper | Side Sleeper | Back Sleeper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 150 lbs. | Maybe | Yes | Maybe |
| 150-250 lbs. | Maybe | Yes | Maybe |
| 250-300 lbs. | Maybe | Yes | Maybe |
Medium Version

| 250-300 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Firm Version
| Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleeper | Side Sleeper | Back Sleeper |

| Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Maybe | Yes |
| 150-250 lbs. | Yes | Maybe | Yes |
| 250-300 lbs. | Yes | Maybe | Yes |
In addition, this mattress uses zoned support via the coil unit, meaning it has a more supportive set of coils in the center third of the mattress.
This helps improve support and reduce sagging in the middle of the mattress. Lastly, the coil unit uses 1,032 coils. A higher coil count (up to a point) helps body weight to be spread more evenly, improving both support and pressure relief.
Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident that most sleepers will find support on the Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX to be outstanding.
Design
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX is a 14.00″ hybrid mattress that comes in three firmness options—Soft, Medium, and Firm. The LX series was added to the ThermoBalance collection for an option with Talalay latex and a slightly shorter profile (14″) than what we measured on the LX Elite (16″).
| Design Factor | Data |
|---|---|
| Type | Hybrid |
| Thickness | 14.00″ |
| Cover Type | Pillow Top |
| Weight | 115 lbs. |
| Has Handles | Yes |
| Fiberglass-Free | Yes |
| Ships in a Box | Yes |
The mattress has a pillow top cover and a luxury feel. There is vertical stitching along the sides of the mattress and an accentuated pillow top design with corded accents separating the pillow top and the base of the mattress.
There are also handles on the sides of the mattress, which can make it easier to move, setup, and rotate the mattress.

The Cover
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX has a 2.25″ pillow top cover. The pillow top includes a layer of foam infused with temperature-regulating Phase Change Material (PCM) to improve cooling performance.

The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer is 5.25″ thick, which includes the pillow top cover as well as three additional foam layers. Directly below the pillow top cover is a 1.0″ latex (pale yellow foam), followed by a 1.0″ memory foam (gray foam), and lastly, there is a 1.0″ poly foam (pink foam).

Combining thinner layers of different types of foams can help a mattress to have a more balanced feel, as opposed to having all of one type of foam.
The Support Layer
The support layer is 8.75″ thick and made of 8.0″ pocketed coils followed by a 0.75″ support foam base. For a hybrid mattress, this is a very common support layer.

Product Evolution
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX is a part of a larger ThermoBalance collection, new to the brand in 2026. Among the ThermoBalance collection are 4 different hybrids, all aimed at exceptional cooling performance.
Models include:
- Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance
- Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance Elite
- Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX (this review)
- Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX Elite
The “LX” distinction means that the mattress contains latex foam. Within this collection, there are two models with latex foam and two models without.
The “Elite” distinction means that the mattress is 16″ thick and aimed at a more luxury-level tier and performance.
