Best For

  • Extremely fast response time
  • Fantastic edge support
  • Good pressure relief with zoned support and 3.0″ of natural latex

Considerations

  • High levels of motion transfer
  • Long off-gassing period (14 days)
  • High bounce may not be right for all sleepers

Our Verdict

The EcoSleep Luxe mattress is an upgraded version of the EcoSleep latex hybrid mattress. It has a 3.0″ latex comfort layer and good performance across the board. The only area where it struggles is high levels of motion transfer.

While motion transfer does raise concerns, the real benefit of this mattress is the 3.0″ of comfort material and lower price point, a savings of 27% compared to the average latex hybrid mattress. $1.3K for a Queen sized latex hybrid is a fantastic value no matter what way you slice it.

How is EcoSleep Luxe Different?

The EcoSleep Luxe has a performance score that is slightly below average, but a price tag that is also 27% less expensive than average as well—a savings of $462 on a queen mattress.

Advantages

Beyond the price, other advantages to the EcoSleep Luxe include better cooling performance, edge support, and sex performance (thanks, in large part, to the high levels of bounce).

Neutral Factors

This mattress has 20% less sinkage than average as well as 40% more bounce than average. These factors are considered “neutral” since they are neither good nor bad, but rather based on personal preference.

If you want a mattress that has deeper contour and hug, the EcoSleep Luxe is not the right pick for you.

Disadvantages

Motion transfer is arguably the biggest disadvantage of the EcoSleep Luxe mattress, where motion transfer levels were 73% higher than average levels.

This mattress is also 0.5″ thinner than average and has a thinner comfort layer as well (only 3.25″ compared to the 4.2″ average comfort layer thickness).

Cooling Test

The EcoSleep Luxe has excellent cooling performance. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of heat retention around my body.

Baseline Temp.

76.2° F

Max Temp.

90.5° F

Ending Temp.

81.4° F

The mattress has a pretty standard performance on par with other latex hybrid mattresses we’ve tested. The natural latex itself doesn’t retain much heat (especially compared to many memory and poly foams), while the coils provide airflow and an air gap.

  • Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
  • Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
  • Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 90.5° F. After getting off the mattress we measured a temperature decline from minutes 0 to 1 of 4.8°, which is 0.28° cooler than after.

From minutes to 0 to 5 the temperature declined by 9.1°, which is 2.15° cooler than average. Overall, I expect most sleepers will find the level of cooling performance to be more than sufficient.

Sinkage Test

The EcoSleep Luxe has a minimal level of pressure point sinkage. In our tests, we measured a sinkage depth of 1.74”. This is 0.43” less sinkage than the average of 2.17”.

Sinkage Feel

The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The mattress creates more of a floating feel (as opposed to sinking down “in” the mattress), especially for lighter parts of my body. However, my butt and midsection sink down to a more moderate level.

The level of body contouring hug is quite restrained. Like most latex hybrids, it creates a more generalized depression around the body, as opposed to memory and many poly foams, which create a more exacting and dramatic body contouring hug.

7.6

Motion Transfer Test

The EcoSleep Luxe has a very high level of motion transfer. In our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 14.63 m/s². This is 73.5% more motion than the average of 8.43 m/s².

Max. Acceleration

6.12 m/s²

Min. Acceleration

-8.51 m/s²

Accel. Range

The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.

It’s not uncommon for latex and latex hybrid mattresses to have a higher level of motion transfer. EcoSleep Luxe is #11 out of 182 for the highest motion transfer we’ve tested to date.

That said, it does have notably lower motion compared to the less expensive EcoSleep mattress, which had 17.16 m/s² of acceleration.

In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion from 0 to 0.63 seconds. By 1.34 seconds we return to near-zero energy levels.

Ecosleep Luxe 2023 Motion Transfer Chart
Ecosleep Luxe Motion Transfer Chart

When we consider the motion duration and motion spikes one thing is abundantly clear, the EcoSleep Luxe has a very high level of motion transfer.

10

Response Test

The EcoSleep Luxe has an extremely fast material response. In our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 0.2 seconds to mostly recover and 0.3 seconds to fully recover. This is effectively an instant responsiveness.

Mostly Recovered

0.2 sec.

Complete Recovery

0.3 sec.

The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.

The mattress is tied for 1st with a number of other highly responsive mattresses. The super fast response ensures it’s easy to move around on and prevents any type of a stuck feeling.

Bounce Test

The EcoSleep Luxe has a very high level of bounce. In our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 13.50”. This is 3.84” more bounce than the average of 9.66”, based on all of our tests to date.

Max. Depth

5.78″

Max. Rebound

7.72″

Total Bounce

The combination of a slightly firm coil unit and natural latex comfort layer unsurprisingly creates a high degree of bounce. Both of these materials by themselves are highly responsive and springy.

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.

When you stack them together they are able to rebound a significant level of bounce. The high bounce is the primary reason we see such a high level of motion transfer.

However, the higher bounce also greatly benefits sex performance. So there are pros and cons.

10

Edge Support Test

The EcoSleep Luxe has exceptionally good sitting edge support and excellent lying edge support. In our sitting edge support tests, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 2.75”. This is 1.37” less sitting sinkage than the average of 4.12”.

Max Sinkage

Sitting, 200 lbs.

Any compression of 4.0” or less is great and the EcoSleep Luxe easily surpassed that milestone. Lying edge support was nearly as impressive. I felt well supported in all sleeping positions even when lying directly on the edge of the mattress.

The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.

The overall level of edge support is somewhat surprising given that we don’t have any reinforced edge support coils or edge support foam. The coil unit itself feels fairly firm, which is likely having a significant impact on the overall strong edge support.

10

Sex Test

The best mattresses for sex have high bounce, good edge support, quiet materials, and good pressure relief and cooling.

These 5 factors make up the NapLab sex performance score.

Sex FactorFactor WeightScoreRating
Bounce60%10Very High
Edge Support20%10Exceptional
Noise10%10Minimal
Pressure Relief5%9.5Excellent
Cooling5%9.5Excellent

For the EcoSleep Luxe, these individual factors generated a sex score of 10 out of 10.

Sex performance on the EcoSleep Luxe is practically the best you can get. Bounce levels are high and edge support is exceptional. These two factors alone makeup 80% of the sex score and really are the driving force behind the good score.

Ecosleep Luxe 2023 Edge Sitting
Ecosleep Luxe Edge Sitting

While high levels of bounce may not be the right choice for all sleepers, as it negatively affects motion transfer, it greatly enhances the sex score here.

9.5

Pressure Relief Test

The EcoSleep Luxe has excellent pressure relief. In our tests, I did not feel any significant level of pressure point build-up.

Comfort Layer

3.5″

Support Layer

8.0″

The mattress uses a robust 3.0” natural latex comfort layer. While this is a little south of the average 4.2” comfort layer (based on all of our tests to date), given the fact that it’s natural latex, it still creates plenty of comfort.

Ecosleep Luxe 2023 Relaxing
Ecosleep Luxe Relaxing

The 3.0” natural latex layer rests on a fairly firm 8.0” coil unit. That firmer coil unit creates a medium-firm to slightly firm feel that could be off-putting for some lighter-weight sleepers, especially lighter side sleepers.

However, excluding these sleepers, I am confident most will find the pressure relief dynamic on the EcoSleep Luxe is excellent.

8.9

Off-Gassing Test

Off-gassing on the EcoSleep Luxe is strong out of the box. The odor lasted for 14 days before fully dissipating. Compared to the 5-day average, the EcoSleep Luxe is well beyond the average.

For EcoSleep, these individual terms and conditions generated a company score of 9.8.

This mattress comes with a 120-night trial period and a 10-year warranty. The trial period is 42 nights shorter than the average trial period (162-night average trial).

The warranty is also shorter than average, only 10 years whereas the average warranty is 14 years (or 26% of mattresses have a lifetime warranty).

Shipping and returns are both free on the EcoSleep Luxe mattress.

How firm is EcoSleep Luxe?

The EcoSleep Luxe has a firmness of 6.5 out of 10 on our firmness scale, which gives it a medium-firm feel.

Firmness Chart 65

Support & Sleeping Positions

The EcoSleep Luxe has excellent support. During our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress uses an 8.0” pocketed coil unit with 3 different support zones.

Ecosleep Luxe 2023 Corner
Ecosleep Luxe 2023 Corner

Zoned support mattresses are able to create more support where your body needs it. The coil unit is fairly firm but well balanced by the 3.0” latex comfort layer. Lighter-weight sleepers may find the support pushes back a little too much. This is in part a product of natural latex itself and in part a product of the firmer coil unit.

I expect most moderate and heavier-weight sleepers will find the support dynamic to be perfectly sufficient. However, some lighter-weight sleepers could find it’s a bit much.

It is designed to be an upgraded version of the EcoSleep Original, having a thicker comfort layer (3.0″ of latex instead of only 2″) and also better performance. In our tests, it did score notably better, earning an overall score of 9.48 compared to 9.32 on the EcoSleep Original.

Materials

The EcoSleep Luxe contains two layers of foam and a support coil base. In detail, here are the exact thicknesses of each layer, from top to bottom:

  • 3.0″ latex foam
  • 8.0″ pocketed coils
  • 0.25″ base material

The Cover

The cover of the EcoSleep Luxe mattress is 100% cotton, GOTS certified, and sustainably sourced. It has a EuroTop design, is breathable, and also helps wick moisture away.

The Comfort Layer

The comfort layer contains 3″ of natural Talalay latex (divided into a 2.0″ slab and a 1.0″ slab). This is 1″ thicker than the latex layer on the original EcoSleep latex hybrid and helps enhance the overall comfort and pressure relief of the Luxe hybrid.

The Support Layer

The support layer is an 8″ high pocketed coil system with a 0.25″ support base. Coils are divided up into a three-zoned system, where there are more supportive coils at the middle of the mattress (where there is more weight), and lighter coils at the head and foot of the mattress.

Pocketed coils are highly effective at limiting motion transfer and noise, while also improving pressure relief and support.

Product Evolution

The EcoSleep Luxe launched in 2021. EcoSleep Luxe was originally called EcoSleep Luxe Hybrid. However, in 2022 Brooklyn Bedding changed the name to simply be EcoSleep Luxe.

The original design of the EcoSleep was a 3.0″ layer of latex on top of an 8.0″ coil unit.

EcoSleep Luxe flippable latex layer
EcoSleep Luxe flippable latex layer – 2022 version of EcoSleep Luxe

The most significant difference is the 3.0″ latex layer was flippable, with one side being softer and the other firmer. This allowed sleepers to increase / decrease the firmness of the total mattress. In addition, it allowed sleepers to replace said latex layer down the road as it degraded.

In 2023, Brooklyn Bedding redesigned the EcoSleep, replacing the flippable / removable latex layer with a standard non-flippable 3.0″ layer of latex.

Ecosleep Hybrid Luxe Mattress Material Layers

In addition, it appears that the coil unit was changed to a slightly more supportive unit. However, that change is unconfirmed and my assumption of change is based on our testing experiences with both the 2022 and 2023 versions of EcoSleep Luxe.

EcoSleep vs. EcoSleep Luxe

Here is a quick side-by-side comparison between the original EcoSleep vs. EcoSleep Luxe. The EcoSleep original is a great pick for budget sleepers, while the Luxe offers better performance overall.

For Motion Transfer

Avocado Eco Material Layers

Avocado Eco

9.67 Overall Score

The Avocado Eco has a softer feel (5.5 out of 10) compared to the EcoSleep Luxe (6.5 out of 10). It also has lower levels of motion transfer, which may be better suited for couples or otherwise sensitive sleepers. The scores are well-balanced across the board and there is less than a $100 difference in the prices between EcoSleep Luxe and Avocado Eco.
