Best For

  • Fast material response time
  • Low price, only $600 for a queen-size mattress.
  • Lower motion transfer than the average mattress

Considerations

  • Lacking edge support for sitting and lying
  • Below-average sex score, thanks to low levels of bounce.
  • Not available in smaller sizes (King or Queen only)

Our Verdict

The SweetNight CoolNest Pro is a 13.75″ memory foam mattress made of poly foam, memory foam, and a support foam base.

The SweetNight CoolNest Pro is available in a single firmness level — medium-firm. On our firmness scale, this is a 6 out of 10 where 10 is the most firm. A medium-firm feel works well for all sleeping positions and most sleepers.

This mattress has very deep sinkage and low levels of bounce. It offers dramatic body-contouring and a more exacting hug, which can be good for sleepers who like to engage more deeply with a mattress.

In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 8.27, ranking the mattress in the bottom 27% of all mattresses tested to date. But what this mattress lacks in performance, it may make up for with its low price tag.

The SweetNight CoolNest Pro is $600 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 47% less expensive than the average memory foam hybrid. If you’re looking for an exacting memory foam feel on a budget, the CoolNest Pro is a good option to consider.

How is SweetNight CoolNest Pro Different?

The SweetNight CoolNest Pro is a 13.75″ memory foam mattress with an overall performance level that is below average but paired with a price that is also significantly below average. Compared to the average memory foam mattress ($1,139), the CoolNest Pro saves $539 on a queen mattress.

Advantages

Beyond the ultra-low price, the CoolNest Pro also offers lower motion transfer and faster material response time. The performance isn’t exceptional, but if you are looking for a budget mattress, then the SweetNight can be a solid value.

Neutral Factors

Neutral factors include very deep levels of sinkage and low levels of bounce. Both sinkage and bounce are neither good nor bad, as different sleepers will have different preferences in these areas.

Sweetnight Coolnest Pro Relaxing
SweetNight CoolNest Pro Relaxing

The mattress’s company score is also considered a neutral factor since it scored right on par with the average.

Disadvantages

Given its low price, the SweetNight CoolNest Pro does have a few performance disadvantages that are worth considering. Cooling performance is worse than average and edge support struggles as well.

When sitting at the edge of the mattress, we measured 5 inches of sinkage, which is significantly deeper than the 3.82″ average.

The sex score and off-gassing score are significantly below the average level as well. We’re not expecting perfect performance at this price point, but if these factors are deal breakers for you, it’s important to consider all disadvantages.

8.0

Cooling Test

The SweetNight CoolNest Pro has good cooling. During our tests, I felt a slight level of heat retention around my body, but it was nothing I’d describe as “hot”.

Baseline Temp.

77.4° F

Max. Temp.

91.1° F

Ending Temp.

80.3° F

The good, but not amazing, cooling performance is a product of the design and materials. This is an all-foam mattress with a primarily memory foam comfort layer.

The all-foam design isn’t ideal for breathability. In addition, the memory foam seems to be absorbing and retaining more heat. That being said, that mattress does have some materials that are helping.

Max. Temp.

Sweetnight Coolnest Pro Before Cooling Test
SweetNight CoolNest Pro Before Cooling Test

Ending Temp.

Sweetnight Coolnest Pro After Cooling Test
SweetNight CoolNest Pro After Cooling Test
  • Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
  • Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
  • Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

First, we have the thin, non-quilted cover, which has a slightly cool-to-the-touch feel. That cover is fairly breathable and is a bit cooler when you first get into bed. Notably, it does lose its cooling feeling after lying in the same position for a few minutes.

In addition, the mattress also has phase change materials in the top foam layer and gel infused within the 2nd foam comfort layer. Both of these are certainly helping with the cooling and yet, they aren’t enough to overcome the all-foam memory foam design.

In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 91.1° F. This is 0.8° warmer than the average of 90.3° F, based on all of our tests to date.

After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 6.1 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 1.3 degrees cooler than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.8 degrees.

Heat Dissipation Over Time

Sweetnight Coolnest Pro Heat Dissipation Chart

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is good.

Sinkage Test

The SweetNight CoolNest Pro has very deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.75″. This is 0.49″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.26″, based on all of our tests to date.

Sinkage Feel

Body Contour

Dramatic

The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

Sweetnight Coolnest Pro Sinkage Test
SweetNight CoolNest Pro Sinkage Test

The mattress creates a dramatic hug around the body. That feel is what we expect from a memory foam mattress. The thin, non-quilted cover creates a more immediate and pronounced hugging sensation.

That said, the foams are also a bit more responsive than many other memory foams we’ve tested. The faster responsiveness helps to avoid any type of excessive hug or restrictive feel. Nevertheless, this mattress still has a distinctly memory foam feel with lots of hug and lots of body contouring.

9.1

Motion Transfer Test

The SweetNight CoolNest Pro has a very low level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 7.06 m/s². This is 20% less motion transfer than the average of 8.82 m/s².

Accel. Range

7.06 m/s²

Motion Duration

0.61 seconds

The lower motion transfer is a product of the all-foam design and thick memory foam comfort layer. Foam, especially memory foam, greatly absorbs and disperses energy. The foam material is simply less resilient than coils and as a result, doesn’t create much bounce.

The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.

In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.2 seconds. Motion drops off significantly immediately thereafter. By 0.61 seconds, we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy, which is 0.31 seconds shorter than the average motion duration of 0.92 seconds.

Motion Transfer Over Time

Sweetnight Coolnest Pro Motion Transfer Chart

When we look at the complete picture of motion transfer data, we see both the motion intensity and motion duration are better than average. Overall, the mattress does a fantastic job at reducing and mitigating motion, creating incredibly low motion transfer for sleepers.

9.5

Response Test

The SweetNight CoolNest Pro has an extremely fast mostly recovered response time and a fast fully recovered response time.

Mostly Recovered

0.2 sec.

Fully Recovered

0.9 sec.

In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.2 seconds, which is 0.22 seconds faster than the average of 0.42 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.

In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.9 seconds, which is 0.12 seconds faster than the average of 1.02 seconds. While the full material recovery speed is about average, the recovery speed is notably better than average.

The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.

I was quite surprised at the responsiveness speed, as memory foam mattresses typically are slow to reform back to their original shapes. The faster material recovery speeds help make the mattress easier to move around on and avoid creating any type of “stuck” or reactive feeling.

Bounce Test

The SweetNight CoolNest Pro has a low level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 7.05″. This is 1.56″ less bounce than the average of 8.61″, based on all of our tests to date.

Max. Depth

5.99″

Max. Rebound

1.06″

Total Bounce

7.05″

The lower level of a bounce is a product of the all-foam design and thick memory foam comfort layer. Foam greatly absorbs and disperses energy, which means there is less energy to return to the surface as bounce. That lower level of bounce is a major reason why motion transfer is considerably better than average.

Max. Sinkage Depth

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.

That said, sex performance struggles, as the lower bounce makes sex more strenuous and tiring. As a result, it’s worth considering what is most important to you: lower motion transfer? Or better sex performance?

7.8

Edge Support Test

The SweetNight CoolNest Pro has fair sitting edge support and good lying edge support.

Max. Sinkage

5.00″

Lying Support

Good

Reinforced Edge

No

In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 5.00″. This is 1.18″ more sitting sinkage than the average of 3.82″, based on all of our tests to date.

The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.

Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sweetnight Coolnest Pro Edge Support Test
SweetNight CoolNest Pro Edge Support Test

Sitting, 200 lbs.

Sweetnight Coolnest Pro Edge Support Test With Vest
SweetNight CoolNest Pro Edge Support Test With Vest

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was good in all sleeping positions. Notably, the CoolNest Pro does not use any type of reinforced edge support foam. That design choice, in addition to the very deep sinkage and memory foam comfort layer, set the stage for worse edge support.

Along the edge of the mattress, the body-contouring nature of memory foam creates a weakening of support. This is because the memory foam is sinking down and contouring to the shape of the body, but there isn’t enough material along the far edge to fully contour and support the body.

The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.

Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

As a result, I can feel the supportive feel weaken along the edge, as there just isn’t enough material there. To be fair, this isn’t a problem with SweetNight specifically, but rather a challenge that most memory foam mattresses share.

7.3

Sex Test

The SweetNight CoolNest Pro has fair sex performance. The biggest bright spot is the minimal noise. So if nothing else, the mattress is quiet.

With a middling performance, we have pressure relief and cooling, which both earned good, but not great scores. While there is plenty of room for improvement, both pressure relief and cooling should be good enough for most sleepers.

Sweetnight Coolnest Pro Edge Support
SweetNight CoolNest Pro Edge Support

Where the mattress struggles the most is edge support and bounce. In our edge tests, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 5.00″. This is considerably worse than average and that means the edge just isn’t a functional or usable part of the mattress for amorous activities.

Sex FactorFactor WeightScoreRating
Bounce65%6.9Low
Edge Support20%7.5Fair
Noise5%10Minimal
Pressure Relief5%8.0Good
Cooling5%8.0Good

In addition, bounce is also worse than average. We measured 7.05” of bounce. When it comes to sex, more bounce is almost always better than less. The lower level of bounce makes sex more strenuous, more tiring, and less fun. Overall sex performance on the CoolNest Pro leaves much to be desired.

8.0

Pressure Relief Test

The SweetNight CoolNest Pro has a good level of pressure relief.

Comfort Layer

7.25″

Support Layer

6.50″

During our tests, I felt no significant pressure points on my body, and yet, it was also clear from the feeling that pressure relief didn’t rise to the excellent or outstanding level. The mattress is equipped with 7.25″ of comfort material, which is 2.89″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.36″, based on all of our tests to date.

Sweetnight Coolnest Pro Back Sleeping
SweetNight CoolNest Pro Back Sleeping

The CoolNest Pro uses a thin, non-quilted cover. This cover type allows the body to come into more immediate and pronounced contact with the foam layers, allowing you to feel the memory foam more significantly around the body.

Moreover, this mattress has deeper sinkage, which many side sleepers will find beneficial for comfort and pressure relief. That said, some back and most stomach sleepers may find the sinkage too deep, creating pressure points.

When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be good.

6.9

Off-Gassing Test

The SweetNight CoolNest Pro had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 11 days. This is 3.4 days longer than the average smell duration of 7.6 days.

How firm is SweetNight CoolNest Pro?

The SweetNight CoolNest Pro is only available in a single firmness option, which they call “Medium.”

It is also available in three different height options – 12”, 14”, and 16”, with more foam material being used in those thicker versions. For that reason, it’s quite likely that each height variant will have a slightly different feel.

Firmness Chart

We tested the 14” version for this review, which we rate as a medium-firm feel. This is a rating of 6 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm. This firmness level is suitable for a wide range of sleepers and sleeping positions.

Support & Sleeping Positions

Support on the SweetNight CoolNest Pro is good. During our tests, I felt well supported on my side and back. That said, when I lay on my stomach, the sinkage felt too deep, creating improper spinal alignment.

The mattress is equipped with a 6.5″ support layer. This is 1.48″ thinner than the average support layer thickness of 7.98″, based on all of our tests to date.

Support FactorData
Comfort Layer 7.25″
Support Layer 6.50″
Firmness Medium-Firm
Body Contour Dramatic
Zoned Support Yes
Reinforced Edge No

Mattresses that create the best support are able to do two big things. First up, they fully support the body, creating a neutral spinal alignment. And second, they create ample comfort and pressure relief. In terms of body support, the CoolNest Pro did a nice job while on my side and back.

However, when I lay on my stomach, the sinkage was too deep, creating a curve in my spine. In addition, pressure relief on the mattress was sufficient. There’s certainly room for improvement, but at this price point, it’s hard to complain too much.

Sweetnight Coolnest Pro Side Sleeping
SweetNight CoolNest Pro Side Sleeping

This mattress is available in a single firmness level that we rated a medium-firm feel. That’s a 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale, where 10 is the most firm. This firmness works well for most sleepers.

Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.

Sleeper WeightStomach SleeperSide SleeperBack Sleeper

150-250 lbs.NoYesYes

In all mattress tests, we make it a point to cut the mattress open to assess the material quality. In doing so, we see the poly foam measured from 1.89 to 3.07 PCF (pounds per cubic foot). The 1.89 PCF is well below what we ideally want to see, which is all the more concerning given that it’s 3.75” of total thickness.

That said, the 3.07 PCF poly foam at the top of the comfort layer stack is an excellent density. Denser foams typically perform better, last longer, and sag less. When we measured the memory foam, we saw a 1.91 PCF. Memory foam requires a greater density to perform well and last a long time, with a 4.0 PCF or higher being ideal.

Sweetnight Coolnest Pro Foam Samples
SweetNight CoolNest Pro Foam Samples

Suffice to say, a 1.91 PCF memory foam is far from what we want to see. In my view, it’s fair to say these density levels are far from great. And yet, given the $599 price point for the 14” version, it’s what I expect to see.

Last but not least, this mattress does use zoned support. Zoned support creates more support for heavier parts of your body, which helps improve support and reduce sagging in those areas. That being said, this type of zoning is through channel cuts in the support foam.

Sweetnight Coolnest Pro Pressing On Foams
SweetNight CoolNest Pro Pressing On Foams

While it’s better than nothing, in my view, this is the least impactful type of zoned support. Specially cut and placed foam layers or zoned coil units offer superior performance, in my view.

Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident most sleepers will find support on the SweetNight CoolNest Pro is good.

Design

The SweetNight CoolNest Pro is a 13.75″ memory foam mattress that comes in a single firmness option—Medium-Firm. We tested the 14-inch version but this mattress is also available in a 12-inch or 16-inch version.

The Cover

The SweetNight CoolNest Pro has a 0.5″ thin cover that is designed to be cool to the touch. SweetNight calls this cover their “gradient cooling ice silk cover”.

This is the same cover as the one we tested on the CoolNest Ultra memory foam mattress.

Sweetnight Coolnest Pro Cover Feel
SweetNight CoolNest Pro Cover Feel

There are no handles on the sides of this mattress, but at this price point that’s not really a feature that I would expect to see.

The Comfort Layer

The comfort layer is 7.25″ thick, which includes the cover, and is made of three different layers of foam.

Beneath the cover is a 1.0″ poly foam (white + blue speckled foam) followed by a 2.0″ memory foam layer (blue foam).

Sweetnight Coolnest Pro Comfort Layer
SweetNight CoolNest Pro Comfort Layer

The thickest foam within the comfort layer is a 3.75″ poly foam (gray foam).

These three different foam layers work together to provide a balanced feel. It maintains a modern memory foam feel with a dramatic level of contour while also being paired with fast material response time.

The Support Layer

The support layer is 6.50″ thick and made of a Single layer of support foam with a convoluted top. The upper ridges in this foam help to improve cooling and also improve the material responsiveness.
