Updated

4/15/2025 Update – Helix has re-designed their entire mattress line, including the Dusk Luxe. The new line launched on 4/1 and our tests and photos below are based on the newest Helix Dusk Luxe version.

Best For

  • Great cooling, especially the cover, which has a cool-to-the-touch feel
  • Fantastic pressure relief, but best suited for back or stomach sleepers
  • Excellent edge support when sitting or lying at or near the edge

Considerations

  • Slower material response time
  • Has more of a floating feel, which can be a bit polarizing for some sleepers
  • Shorter 100-night trial period is 76 nights shorter than average

Our Verdict

The Helix Dusk Luxe is a 13.5″ hybrid mattress made of a memory foam quilted cover, poly foam comfort layer, and a zoned pocketed coil base. It is topped with a quilted Tencel cover (standard) or you can upgrade to the GlacioTex cooling cover for $199 extra. The version we tested used the cooling cover.

The Helix Dusk Luxe is available in a single firmness level — slightly firm, 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale. One note: Earlier versions of the Dusk Luxe, dated pre-2025, had a medium-firm feel (6 out of 10) compared to the present-day version, which is a bit firmer..

This mattress has moderate sinkage and moderate levels of bounce. The Dusk Luxe has more of a “floating feel”, where you lie more “on” the mattress as opposed to “in” the mattress. This is neither good nor bad, but it’s something to consider when thinking about the type of feel you want in a mattress.

In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 9.35, ranking the mattress in the top 4% of all mattresses tested to date.

The Helix Dusk Luxe is $1,899 for a queen sized mattress, which is 31% more than the average hybrid. But, given the higher performance, the Dusk Luxe is a fantastic pick for sleepers looking for this type of feel in a mattress.

How is Helix Dusk Luxe Different?

The Helix Dusk Luxe is a 13.5″ hybrid mattress with an overall performance level that is significantly better than average and a price tag that is also slightly more expensive than the average hybrid—31% more for a difference of about $450.

Helix Dusk Luxe 2025 Sitting
Helix Dusk Luxe Sitting

Advantages

The Dusk Luxe has exceptional cooling performance and very low levels of motion transfer, 48% less than the average mattress. Edge support also impresses when sitting or lying at or near the edge of the mattress.

It has a 4.75″ comfort layer and a total thickness of 13.5″, which both contribute to the fantastic pressure relief. Lastly, the Dusk Luxe is backed by a lifetime warranty.

Neutral Factors

This mattress has moderate levels of sinkage and moderate levels of bounce as well. These “feel factors” give the mattress a balanced feel that doesn’t lean strongly towards any one class of sleeper preferences.

It does have a floating feel though, so if you’re looking for a mattress to hug or cradle you as your sleep, the Dusk Luxe won’t be the best option for you.

Disadvantages

Besides the initial extra cost investment, the only other real disadvantage is the slower material response time. Although the time it takes for the mattresses to be “mostly recovered” is at the average level, the “fully recovered” time is 0.7 seconds slower than average.

The shorter 100-night trial period may also be a disadvantage for some sleepers looking for a longer time to test out the mattress.

10

Cooling Test

The Helix Dusk Luxe has outstanding cooling. During our tests, I felt no significant level of heat retention around my body. The mattress breathes well due to high performance memory and poly foams.

In addition, we have a pocketed coil base bringing plenty of air into the mattress. Last and arguably most importantly, the mattress is available with an optional cooling cover.

Baseline Temp.

Ending Temp.

80.9° F

Our mattress included the cover and it very clearly makes a big impact on cooling performance. The cover creates a cool-to-the-touch feel. Even after lying on it for the duration of our cooling test, it still remained notably cool on the skin.

  • Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
  • Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 89.5° F. This is 0.3° cooler than the average of 89.8° F, based on all of our tests to date.

After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 5.0° from minutes 0 to 1, which is 0.4° cooler than the average 0 to 1-minute decline of 4.6 °.

Heat Dissipation Over Time

Helix Dusk Luxe 2025 Heat Dissipation Chart

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is outstanding.

Sinkage Test

The Helix Dusk Luxe has moderate sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.08″. This is 0.09″ less sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.17″, based on all of our tests to date. The mattress creates a bit of a mixed feel on the body.

Sinkage Depth

2.08″

Sinkage Feel

Moderate

The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

Helix Dusk Luxe 2025 Sinkage Test
Helix Dusk Luxe Sinkage Test

Heavier parts of my body do sink down to more of a moderate level, but the lighter parts of my body, namely head, arms, legs, and feet feel like they are floating more on top of the mattress as opposed to sinking down “in” the mattress. Even so, I would describe the feel as more balanced than not.

Nevertheless, it is a notably different dynamic compared to the Helix Midnight Luxe, which is a less polarizing, more balanced, and more even feel that, in my view, is more appropriate to the needs of most sleepers.

To be comfortable on the Dusk Luxe you’ll need to prefer a little less sinkage, a little more floating feel, and a slightly firm feel.

10

Motion Transfer Test

The Helix Dusk Luxe has an extremely low level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 4.60 m/s². This is 47% less motion transfer than the average of 8.70 m/s².

Max. Acceleration

2.21 m/s²

Min. Acceleration

-2.39 m/s²

Accel. Range

The newly formulated 3.5 PCF poly foam is having a big impact at reducing motion transfer. This foam layer absorbs a ton of energy and is aided by the combined 4.75” comfort layer and below-average level of bounce.

The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.

These performance attributes and denser poly foam work together to notably reduce motion transfer.

In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.15 seconds. Motion intensity drops off dramatically thereafter, but remains spiky until returning to near zero levels by 1.08 seconds.

Helix Dusk Luxe 2025 Motion Transfer Chart

Certainly, the motion duration is not ideal. This increase in duration is most likely the result of the slightly firm feel. Typically, firmer mattresses can struggle to return to near-zero levels of energy, even in cases where motion intensity is relatively low, as it is here with the Dusk Luxe.

All things considered, motion transfer is extremely low and I expect it will be a non-issue for most sleepers.

7.9

Response Test

The Helix Dusk Luxe is a mixed bag for material responsiveness, with a fast mostly recovered response time and a very slow fully recovered response time.

In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.4 seconds, which is 0.03 seconds faster than the average of 0.43 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.

Mostly Recovered

0.4 sec.

Fully Recovered

1.7 sec.

In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 1.7 seconds, which is 0.71 seconds slower than the average of 0.99 seconds. As with so many other Helix Luxe mattresses we’ve tested, the newly formulated dense poly foam is having a big impact on material responsiveness.

The 1.0” poly foam has a density of 3.5 PCF. Higher-density foams are great for comfort, durability, and pressure relief, but they also take longer to return to their original shapes after being compressed.

While other foams and coils within the Dusk Luxe return to shape quickly, the denser poly foam has a slower response and slows the total responsiveness speed on the mattress.

The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.

The slower response does have a negative impact on ease of movement. However, given the relatively modest sinkage depth and slightly firm feel, ease of movement is still more than adequate and should be a non-issue for most sleepers.

The fast response ensures ease of movement will be a non-issue for most sleepers.

Bounce Test

The Helix Dusk Luxe has a moderate level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 8.74″. This is 0.48″ less bounce than the average of 9.22″, based on all of our tests to date.

Max. Depth

4.99″

Max. Rebound

As was the case with motion transfer and response, the 1.0” poly foam within the core of the mattress has the biggest impact on bounce performance.

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.

That denser 3.5 PCF foam absorbs a ton of energy, which reduces bounce rebound. Even so, this isn’t a shallow level of bounce.

It’s a bit below average and yet, still sufficient to facilitate ease of movement and create reasonably good sex performance. All that to say, I don’t expect bounce will be an issue for most sleepers.

10

Edge Support Test

The Helix Dusk Luxe has outstanding sitting edge support and outstanding lying edge support.

Max. Sinkage

3.00″

Lying Support

Outstanding

In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.00″. This is 1.02″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 4.02″, based on all of our tests to date.

Even while sitting directly on the edge, the mattress maintains robust support and there is no collapse of materials.

The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

Lying edge support is equally as impressive. While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was outstanding in all sleeping positions.

The Dusk Luxe, like all Luxe and Elite mattresses, is equipped with 2 rows of reinforced coils that run along the entire perimeter of the mattress.

The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.

These coils are a significant driver of the improved edge support performance. In addition, the total 13.5” profile height, high-quality materials, slightly firm feel, and super dense 3.5 PCF poly foam are all helping to further reinforce and improve edge support performance.

Overall, I’m extremely pleased with the edge support and I don’t expect it will be an issue for most sleepers.

8.6

Sex Test

The Helix Dusk Luxe has good sex performance. On the positive side, we saw minimal noise and perfect performance from both cooling and edge support.

Helix Dusk Luxe 2025 Edge Support Sitting
Helix Dusk Luxe Edge Support Sitting

With just 3.00” of sitting edge sinkage, the edge of the mattress is robust and usable for amorous activities.

In addition, the mattress has excellent pressure relief, which creates plenty of comfort for partners on the mattress. The one area where sex isn’t so great is bounce, which we measured at 8.74”.

Sex FactorFactor WeightScoreRating
Bounce65%7.9Moderate
Edge Support20%10Outstanding
Noise5%10Minimal
Pressure Relief5%9.0Excellent
Cooling5%10Outstanding

The below-average level of bounce suppresses sex performance and makes the mattress a bit more strenuous to have sex on. At this level, it’s not bad by any stretch.

Nevertheless, the overall sex score is notably better than average and should be perfectly satisfactory for most couples.

9.0

Pressure Relief Test

The Helix Dusk Luxe has an excellent level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no notable pressure points on my body.

The mattress is equipped with 4.75″ of comfort material, which is 0.58″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.17″, based on all of our tests to date.

Comfort Layer

4.75″

Support Layer

8.75″

The Dusk Luxe uses high-performance foams at every level. We have 1.5-1.8 PCF in the comfort layers, but the real star of the show is the 3.5 PCF poly foam layer.

This foam is notably denser than what we typically see and it feels fantastic on the body and in hand. Higher density foams create amazing pressure relief, contour, and last longer.

Helix Dusk Luxe 2025 Back Sleeping
Helix Dusk Luxe Back Sleeping

All that said, this mattress will have a little more of a polarizing feel since the mattress does create less sinkage than average, has a slightly firm feel, and has more of a floating feel.

Those attributes aren’t bad, but they do create a specific feel, one you’ll need to prefer in order to feel like the mattress is creating the right comfort dynamic and therefore alleviating pressure points.

In general, this mattress comfort dynamic feels best suited to back and stomach sleepers and is less than great for side sleepers.

In our objective pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 0.64, which is well below the 2.0 PSI threshold, which indicates a high-pressure level that we want to avoid.

When I consider our objective pressure maps, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be excellent.

How firm is Helix Dusk Luxe?

The Helix Dusk Luxe has a slightly firm feel and is a 7 out of 10 on the firmenss scale, where 10 is the most firm.

Firmness Chart 7

Back or stomach sleepers especially would likely benefit from the firmness of this mattress. However, many side sleepers will find this is a bit too firm.

Support & Sleeping Positions

Support on the Helix Dusk Luxe is excellent. During our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress is equipped with a 8.75″ support layer.

This is 0.83″ thicker than the average support layer thickness of 7.92″, based on all of our tests to date.

Helix Dusk Luxe 2025 Stomach Sleeping
Helix Dusk Luxe Stomach Sleeping

The Dusk Luxe uses a zoned pocketed coil unit, which creates more support in the middle of the mattress, delivering a more neutral spinal alignment and helping to resist sagging in the middle of the mattress.

In addition, the mattress has a robust 4.75” comfort material with impressive foam quality, especially the poly foam in the core with its 3.5 PCF. This comfort layer ensures you can lie comfortably in the same position without pressure points. All that said, this support dynamic isn’t ideal for all sleepers.

Helix Dusk Luxe 2025 Layers
Helix Dusk Luxe Layers

The slightly firm feel and below-average sinkage level are best suited to the needs of stomach and back sleepers.

Lighter weighted side sleepers especially should avoid this mattress, and instead opt for the Helix Midnight Luxe (or another mattress with a medium or medium-firm feel).

Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.

Sleeper WeightStomach SleeperSide SleeperBack Sleeper
Under 150 lbs.YesNoYes
150-250 lbs.YesMaybeYes
250-300 lbs.YesYesYes

This comfort dynamic doesn’t make the mattress good or bad, but it is a specific feel. You’ll really need to like the feeling of a bit less sinkage, a bit more body float, and a less restrained body contouring hug in order to be comfortable and feel well-supported.

Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident most sleepers will find support on the Helix Dusk Luxe is excellent.

The Cover

The Helix Dusk Luxe has a standard cover made of Tencel with a soft and breathable feel. This mattress comes with reinforced sides with 4 carrying handles.

Helix Dusk Luxe 2025 Cover Feel
Helix Dusk Luxe Cover Feel

Sleepers also have the option to upgrade to the GlacioTex cooling cover. The cooling cover contains cooling fibers that help regulate body temperature when you’re lying on the mattress. Regardless of mattress size, upgrading to the cooling cover costs $199.

The Dusk Luxe mattress we tested had the GlacioTex cooling cover, but did not have the graphite cooling ribbons (aka: CoolForce). These ribbons are only available if you also upgrade to the GlacioTex cooling cover, which we discussed above.

The addition of the cooling cover and cooling ribbons would add an additional $299 to the total mattress cost.

The Comfort Layer

The comfort layer is 4.75″ thick and contains the quilted cover followed by three foam layers. On top, we see a 1.0” poly foam (gray foam) with a rating of 3.5 PCF, which is the highest quality foam used within the comfort layer.

This foam is designed for comfort and durability. Beneath the poly foam are two more layers of poly foam, each 1.0″ thick. These two layers provide transitional support to help ease sleepers into the coil layer below.

Helix Dusk Luxe 2025 Quilted Cover
Helix Dusk Luxe Quilted Cover

Helix also offers an optional support layer that you can add, the ErgoAlign support layer. This layer is designed to support spinal alignment, especially along the midsection.

Helix Ergo Align Support Layer
Helix Ergo Align Support Layer

This layer sits directly below the cover and is designed as a supportive foam that helps to reinforce support along the mid-section, thereby allowing less sinkage in the middle of the mattress.

I will say, this layer is quite firm and will not be right for all sleepers. We’ve already heard from some of our readers / viewers who purchased this optional foam upgrade that it made their mattress way too firm, creating an uncomfortable support dynamic.

However, if you really struggle with back pain caused by too much sinkage in the middle of your mattress, then adding this layer can help.

This optional layer costs an additional $199 and is available in the Core and Luxe models. On the mattresses within the Elite collection, this layer comes standard.

The Support Layer

The support layer is 8.75″ thick and made of an 8.0″ zoned pocketed coil base. Each of these coils are designed to move independently of each other, with targeted zones that place stronger coils in areas where there is stronger pressure (ie: midsection).

Helix Dusk Luxe 2025 Support Layer

Beneath the coils is a 0.75″ high-density support foam base. This layer acts as the strong support that all other layers rely on.

Product Evolution

The Helix Dusk Luxe has undergone a series of changes over the years, but NapLab has been around for multiple iterations, continuing to test the newest version of this mattress.

Despite material changes, the Dusk Luxe maintains a consistent feel across the different interactions.
