How is FORM Prime Different?

The FORM Prime is a 14.50″ specialty mattress with an overall performance level that is better than average and a price that is higher as well, $288 more than average for a queen-sized specialty mattress.

Advantages

Advantages of the FORM Prime include better cooling performance, faster material response time, and better edge support as well. The sex score is better than average as well, largely due to higher levels of bounce.

Neutral Factors

This mattress has minimal sinkage and high levels of bounce. Both bounce and sinkage are preferential factors, but if you enjoy an active feel and want to sleep “on the mattress”, the FORM Prime could be a good fit.

Disadvantages

Disadvantages of the FORM Prime include higher levels of motion transfer and below-average pressure relief. If you are looking for more contour and want to sleep “in the mattress,” then the minimal sinkage and slight contour of this mattress will be disadvantages.

The FORM Prime has excellent cooling. During our tests, I did not experience any significant heat retention around my body.

The cooling performance of this mattress benefits from both the design and the sinkage depth. First up, the top gel layer is doing some heavy lifting. The grid design creates a layer filled with air pockets.

• Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
• Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
• Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

This design helps resist heat retention and create additional airflow. In addition, the thin, non-quilted cover breathes well, allowing air to flow in and out of the mattress. Moving on to the hybrid design itself, which also helps to facilitate additional airflow.

Lastly, the sinkage depth, which was very restrained, is also helping. Having less sinkage means the body floats more “on” the mattress instead of sinking down “in” the mattress. This means there is less material around the body, which further assists in the cooling performance of the mattress.

In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 90.6° F. This is 0.3° warmer than the average of 90.3° F, based on all of our tests to date.

After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 3.5 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 1.3 degrees less cool than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.8 degrees.

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is excellent.

The FORM Prime has minimal sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 1.80″.

This is 0.45″ less sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.25″, based on all of our tests to date. The mattress creates only a slight body contouring hug. Instead of a hug, we have a dramatic floating feel where the body lies “on” the mattress as opposed to sinking down “in” the mattress.

I was really surprised at the sinkage depth (or lack thereof), in addition to the firm feel. This mattress has an 8 out of 10 firm feel. The feeling is incredibly buoyant with minimal sinkage and a ton of pushback.

This feel isn’t good or bad, but it is a more polarizing feel. You’ll really need to prefer more firmness, less sinkage, and a more buoyant, floating feel to enjoy this mattress.

The FORM Prime has a moderate level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 9.58 m/s². This is 9% more motion transfer than the average of 8.76 m/s².

When we consider the design and feel of this mattress, the higher motion isn’t especially surprising. First, we have less sinkage and a firm feel. These attributes mean there is a greater level of pushback and resiliency when people are moving around on the mattress.

In addition, the support layer of coils creates a foundation of strong bounce, which we measured at 11.64”. That’s considerably more bounce than average and further sets the stage for more motion transfer.

In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.2 seconds.

Motion declines thereafter, but we do still see motion continue with strength until well after 1 second. At 1.60 seconds, we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy, which is 0.70 seconds longer than the average motion duration of 0.90 seconds.

When we consider the complete motion transfer picture, it’s just not great. Both motion intensity and motion duration are worse than average.

The FORM Prime has an extremely fast material response. In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.2 seconds, which is 0.22 seconds faster than the average of 0.42 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.

In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.3 seconds, which is 0.73 seconds faster than the average of 1.03 seconds. This is effectively an instant material recovery speed.

The extremely fast response time is a product of the gel pad, pocketed coils, minimal sinkage, and firm feel.

Those material and design attributes prevent excess sinkage and ensure the materials rebound quickly. In addition, it’s tied for 1st as the fastest responsiveness we’ve tested to date.

This rapid recovery speed ensures the mattress is incredibly easy to move around on and will never create any type of “stuck” feeling in the mattress.

The FORM Prime has a high level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 11.64″. This is 3.00″ more bounce than the average of 8.64″, based on all of our tests to date.

This significantly higher-than-average level of bounce is resulting from the hybrid design, gel pad, minimal sinkage, and firm feel. The firm feel and minimal sinkage create a more resilient and springy surface.

In addition, the gel pad layer and pocketed coil unit are highly responsive and highly resilient materials. Together, these material and design choices work together to create high bounce.

The high bounce makes this mattress easy to move around on and improves sex performance. However, it does so at the cost of motion transfer, which is worse than average.

The FORM Prime has excellent sitting edge support and outstanding lying edge support.

In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.75″. This is 0.11″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 3.86″, based on all of our tests to date.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was outstanding in all sleeping positions. This mattress is equipped with a reinforced support foam that runs along the entire perimeter of the mattress. This foam is 3.5” wide and 8” tall.

The combination of the reinforced perimeter support foam, minimal sinkage, and firm feel creates the right material and design conditions to deliver incredibly robust edge support for both sitting and lying.

The level of edge support performance is significantly better than average, and I expect most sleepers will find it more than satisfactory.

The FORM Prime has excellent sex performance. When it comes to sex performance, the FORM Prime really doesn’t have any notable weak spots.

That said, it is fair to say that pressure relief and noise were only good, but not great. Something about the gel pad seems to create a bit more noise than we see from most other mattresses we’ve tested (this is something we also experienced with the FORM Core and FORM Core Hybrid mattresses we tested).

Cooling, bounce, and edge support all earned excellent scores. FORM Prime has significantly more bounce than average and a more robust sitting edge support than average.

These attributes create a mattress surface that’s quite springy, easy to move around on, and supportive, which are all beneficial for sex performance.

The FORM Prime has a good level of pressure relief.

During our tests, I felt a slight level of pressure on my body, but in general, I found the mattress to be comfortable. That being said, it’s also fair to say that this level of pressure relief performance did not rise to the excellent or outstanding level.

The mattress is equipped with 5.25″ of comfort material, which is 0.89″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.36″, based on all of our tests to date.

While I’m pleased to see a thicker-than-average comfort layer, the quality of the poly foams left something to be desired (though the gel pad layer does look and feel higher performance).

Ultimately, it’s the feel of the mattress that limits pressure relief performance, in my view. This mattress has a more polarizing floating feel where the body lies more “on” the mattress as opposed to sinking down “in” the mattress. This more buoyant feel means there just isn’t very much body contouring or hugging sensation.

Instead, we have a highly supportive and firm feel. This feel isn’t necessarily bad, but it’s also a feel that isn’t right for a majority of sleepers. Side sleepers especially will not be well served by this feel.

In my view, this mattress is better for exclusive stomach and back sleepers, and even then, only for those who prefer a firm feel. All other sleepers are likely to find the pressure relief dynamic simply isn’t great.

In our objective pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 0.54, which is within the 1.0 PSI threshold I ideally want to see.

When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be good.

Comparing 121+ brands tested to date, the average trial period is 194 nights, 171 nights less than FORM offers. The FORM Prime is also backed by a lifetime warranty.

The FORM Prime is available in single firmness, 8 out of 10, giving the mattress a firm feel.

A mattress with this firmness is generally going to have more pushback, a feel more often preferred by back or stomach sleepers. The firm feel of this mattress is not well suited to the needs of most side sleepers.

Support on the FORM Prime is excellent. During our tests, I felt well supported on my stomach and back, but I felt improperly supported on my side.

The firm feel of this mattress simply isn’t great for side sleepers, as it doesn’t allow the hips to sink down into the mattress, allowing the body to achieve a neutral spinal alignment.

The mattress is equipped with a 9.25″ support layer. This is 1.29″ thicker than the average support layer thickness of 7.96″, based on all of our tests to date. For a mattress to create ideal support, it needs to create a neutral spinal alignment for the body, while also delivering ample comfort. This mattress is able to create neutral spinal alignment for back and stomach sleepers, but not for side sleepers.

In addition, while I found pressure relief and comfort to be good, it’s also fair to say the performance was far from amazing.

This mattress is available in a single firmness, which has a firm feel, 8 out of 10 on our firmness scale. This firmness can work for some back and stomach sleepers, but is generally going to be too firm for most side sleepers. Side sleepers simply need more sinkage and a medium to medium-firm feel in order to create an ideal support dynamic.

In all mattress tests, we make it a point to cut the mattress open to examine the material layers. On the positive side, the gel pad looks and feels like a high-quality layer. In addition, the pocketed coil unit has a 14.5 gauge, which is on the thicker side.

That being said, I’m less impressed with the poly foam layers, which mostly ranged from 1.56 PCF to 1.71 PCF.

This is on the lower end of the foam density spectrum and not exactly what we hope to see. We did measure one poly foam layer at 2.71 PCF, but it was only 0.25”. Given the relative thinness, its higher density isn’t going to be as impactful as the other thicker poly foam layers.

Lastly, this mattress uses zoned support. Zoned support creates targeted support for different parts of the body and typically improves support, longevity, and reduces sagging.

Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident most sleepers will find support on the FORM Prime is excellent.

The FORM Prime has a thin cover that is designed with integrated “cool-on-contact” material. This is the same cover that is used on the FORM Core and FORM Core Hybrid mattresses.

The comfort layer is 5.25″ thick, which includes a 1.75″ gel pad followed by three layers of poly foam. Directly below the gel pad is a 0.25″ poly foam, a 1.25″ poly foam, and a 1.75″ poly foam.

These foams combine to create a dynamic and supportive comfort layer beneath the gel grid.

The support layer is 9.25″ thick and made of an 8.0″ pocketed coil base followed by a 1.25″ support foam layer. Each coil is individually encased in a thin fabric, which allows the coils to move independently.

The perimeter of the mattress is also reinforced with edge support foam. This thick layer of foam protects the coils and improves edge support for sitting or lying at or near the edge.

Product Evolution

FORM is a newer mattress brand that has developed a line of specialty mattresses that use a polymer gel grid (similar to the material Purple uses for their mattresses). FORM is the sister brand of Amerisleep, which has a longer history, having been founded in 2010.

FORM launched their brand in 2026 with four mattresses—the Core, Core Hybrid, Prime (this review), and Prime X Hybrid.
