Our Verdict
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX Elite is a 16.00″ hybrid mattress made of multiple foam types, pocketed coils, and a support foam base. The thicker profile gives the LX an extremely robust comfort layer and a truly luxurious feel.
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX Elite is available in three firmness levels — soft, medium, and firm. We tested the medium version and found the mattress to have a medium-firm feel (6 out of 10 on our firmness tests).
This mattress has extremely deep sinkage and moderate levels of bounce. This deeper sinkage creates more hug and is especially beneficial for side sleepers. That said, some back and stomach sleepers may find it a bit too much.
In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 8.95, ranking the mattress in the top 23% of all mattresses tested to date.
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX Elite is $2,399 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 61% more expensive than average. While the price is expensive, performance is considerably better than average. The LX Elite earned perfect 10/10 scores in cooling and pressure relief, making it an incredibly comfortable mattress.

How is Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX Elite Different?
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX Elite is a 16.00″ hybrid mattress with an overall performance level that is above-average and a price tag that is also above average, an extra expense of over $900 above average for a queen mattress.
Advantages
Specific advantages of the LX Elite include better cooling performance, better edge support, and exceptional pressure relief.
The mattress has a 6.25″ comfort layer, which is nearly 2″ thicker than the average comfort layer (4.31″). This also makes the overall thickness deeper as well, 16″ total thickness. This is 3.77″ thicker than the average mattress.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has extremely deep sinkage and moderate bounce. Both sinkage and bounce are considered neutral factors since different sleepers will have different preferences in this area.

To enjoy the feel of the ThermoBalance, you’ll need to prefer sleeping “in the mattress” vs. “on top of the mattress”.
Disadvantages
The ThermoBalance LX Elite struggles with higher levels of motion transfer, a slower material response time, and a notably higher price.
Cooling Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX Elite has outstanding cooling. During our tests, I felt no significant level of heat retention around my body.
Baseline Temp.
76.6° F
Max. Temp.
89.7° F
Ending Temp.
82.1° F
During our tests, I found the cover had a notable cool-to-the-touch feel, and it maintained that cool feel throughout the cooling tests.
Max. Temp.

Ending Temp.

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
The mattress did a fantastic job at remaining cool for the duration of the cooling tests. It has multiple design attributes and materials that help to improve cooling.
First up, were cooling fibers in the cover. In addition, the topmost layer of poly foam is infused with phase change materials (PCM). PCMs are tuned to maintain a consistent cooler temperature.
Moving down the comfort layer stack, we have high-performance, high-quality foams at every level, which seem to do well resisting heat retention and allowing for airflow.
Lastly, we have a pocketed coil unit, which brings more airflow into the mattress.
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 89.7° F. This is 0.5° cooler than the average of 90.2° F, based on all of our tests to date.
After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 4.2 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 0.6 degrees less cool than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.8 degrees.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is outstanding.
Sinkage Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX Elite has extremely deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.96″.
Sinkage Depth
2.96″
Sinkage Feel
Extremely Deep
Body Contour
Balanced
This is 0.71″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.25″, based on all of our tests to date. The mattress creates a balanced body contouring hug.
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

This mattress uses a mix of varied foam types, including poly foam, latex foam, memory foam, and a thick pillow top cover. All of these foams sit atop a high-performance pocketed coil unit.
This combination of materials creates a balanced, even, non-polarizing feel that many different types of sleepers will enjoy.
That said, the sinkage depth is notably deeper than average, making it more ideally suited to the needs of side sleepers.
Motion Transfer Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX Elite has a moderate level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 9.87 m/s². This is 12% more motion transfer than the average of 8.80 m/s².
Accel. Range
9.87 m/s²
Motion Duration
0.92 seconds
The higher motion transfer is a product of deeper sinkage and a hybrid design. The deeper sinkage allows sleepers to more deeply engage with the mattress, bringing the body into greater contact with the coil unit.
That greater contact with the coil unit returns more energy, which transfers across the mattress as motion transfer.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.25 seconds. Motion drops off significantly immediately thereafter.
By 0.92 seconds, we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy, which is 0.03 seconds longer than the average motion duration of 0.89 seconds.
Motion Transfer Over Time

While the motion duration is essentially average, the motion transfer is slightly more than average. Overall, the motion transfer picture isn’t bad, but it’s also far from great.
Response Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX Elite has a fast mostly recovered response time and a moderate fully recovered response time.
Mostly Recovered
0.5 sec.
Fully Recovered
1.3 sec.
In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.5 seconds, which is 0.08 seconds slower than the average of 0.42 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.
In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 1.3 seconds, which is 0.28 seconds slower than the average of 1.02 seconds.
This mattress uses many different types of foams and materials, including poly foam, latex foam, memory foam, quilted foams (within the pillow top cover), and a coil unit.
Most of these materials spring back to shape incredibly quickly, including the poly foam, coil unit, and latex foam.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
However, the memory foam in particular is a slower recovery foam. It takes a moment or so to fully reform back to its original shape after it has been decompressed.
This layer is slowing down the total material recovery speed of the mattress at large.
Even so, at a full responsiveness of 1.3 seconds, the LX Elite isn’t slow, but it’s not quite the fastest either. All that to say, I never felt “stuck” or had any difficulty moving around on the mattress.
Bounce Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX Elite has a moderate level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 8.35″. This is 0.35″ less bounce than the average of 8.70″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Depth
5.71″
Max. Rebound
2.64″
Total Bounce
8.35″
The lower level of bounce is a product of the significantly thicker-than-average comfort layer. At 6.25” of comfort materials, this mattress is absolutely packed with high-performance foams.
While all of those foams are beneficial for pressure relief, comfort, and support, at least with respect to bounce, they have a suppressive effect.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max. Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
The lower-than-average level of bounce does have a negative impact on sex performance. However, it’s also the reason that motion transfer was kept to a reasonably low level.
Edge Support Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX Elite has good sitting edge support and outstanding lying edge support.
Max. Sinkage
4.00″
Lying Support
Outstanding
Reinforced Edge
No
In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 4.00″. This is 0.13″ more sitting sinkage than the average of 3.87″, based on all of our tests to date.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was outstanding in all sleeping positions. Certainly, sitting edge support is far from perfect. That said, I was more thoroughly impressed by the lying edge support.
Notably, this mattress does not use reinforced coils along the perimeter. Instead, it is equipped with reinforced coils for the entire pocketed coil unit. The coils are a 13.5 gauge, which is a thicker wire.
The thicker wire creates better durability and support for the mattress at large, including along the edges.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

Certainly that thicker wire is required to support such a thick and heavy comfort layer.
All that to say, the combination of high-performance foams, a thick 13.5-gauge coil unit, and a thicker-than-average total mattress height is working together to deliver solid edge support.
Sex Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX Elite has good sex performance. On the positive side, the mattress has minimal noise with outstanding cooling and pressure relief.

Edge support earned a good score with 4.00″ of sitting edge sinkage. This sitting sinkage depth is far from perfect, but it’s still robust enough to create strong support along the edge, extending the usable surface.
Where the mattress didn’t do so well was bounce, which we measured at 8.35″. This is slightly less bounce than average. When it comes to amorous activities, we want bounce to be as high as possible.
| Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bounce | 65% | 7.7 | Moderate |
| Edge Support | 20% | 8.8 | Good |
| Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
| Pressure Relief | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |
| Cooling | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |
The lower bounce makes the mattress a bit less active feeling and can be more strenuous and tiring to have sex on as a result. To be fair, this level of bounce isn’t bad, and yet, it’s still the most significant negative factor holding down the sex score.
Pressure Relief Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX Elite has an outstanding level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant pressure points on my body. Instead, I found the mattress to be incredibly comfortable.
Comfort Layer
6.25″
Support Layer
9.75″
The mattress is equipped with 6.25″ of comfort material, which is 1.93″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.32″, based on all of our tests to date.
All of that extra material does a wonderful job at gently cradling the body, alleviating pressure, and remaining comfortable to lie in the same position even for extended periods of time.
In all mattress tests, we make it a point to cut the mattress open and examine the material quality. In doing so, I found the foam layers all look and feel high quality, both on the body and in-hand.
Our foam density tests provided additional evidence to show their quality (denser foams are typically higher quality, last longer, and sag less).

Moving on, this mattress is equipped with a cover that I would describe as a pillow top. However, Brooklyn Bedding doesn’t call it a pillow top or quilted cover anywhere on the product page (though they do say it uses quilted foam).
Even so, in my view, this is a high-performance pillow top cover and is a major factor in the fantastic pressure relief.
In many ways, it reminds me of the pillow top covers used by Winkbed and Saatva Classic, which puts the Thermobalance LX Elite in very good company (both of those brands are among the best we’ve tested to date).

Lastly, this mattress also looks and feels similar to the Helix Elite design. We have materials, layers, and design that are all similar, including the zippable insert comfort layer stack (that zipper cover even included a Helix law tag on it).
That said, while it’s very similar, it’s also about $600 less expensive, making this model a fantastic value.
One final note, in our objective pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 0.43, which is well within the 1.0 PSI threshold I ideally want to see.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Side Sleepers | 0.08 | 0.27 |
Pressure Map – Back Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Back Sleepers | 0.06 | 0.43 |
Pressure Map – Stomach Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Stomach Sleepers | 0.07 | 0.31 |
When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be outstanding.
Off-Gassing Test
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX Elite had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 7 days. This is 0.3 days shorter than the average smell duration of 7.3 days.

How firm is Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX Elite?
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX Elite is available in three different firmness options—Soft, Medium, and Firm.
Soft Version
We did not test the Soft version, but we estimate it would have a 4 out of 10 rating, where 10 is the most firm.

Medium Version
We tested the Medium version for this review and found it had a medium-firm feel that comes in at a 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale.

Firm Version
We also haven’t tested the Firm version, but we estimate that it would come in at an 8 out of 10 on the firmness scale.

Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX Elite is outstanding. During our tests, I felt well supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress is equipped with a 9.75″ support layer.
This is 1.84″ thicker than the average support layer thickness of 7.91″, based on all of our tests to date.
For a mattress to create ideal support, it needs to both support the body, creating a neutral spinal alignment, while also creating ample pressure relief and comfort.
| Support Factor | Data |
|---|---|
| Comfort Layer | 6.25″ |
| Support Layer | 9.75″ |
| Firmness | Soft, Medium-Firm, and Firm |
| Body Contour | Balanced |
| Zoned Support | Yes |
| Reinforced Edge | No |
The ThermoBalance LX Elite easily cleared both of those requirements. This mattress is available in 3 firmness levels, including soft, medium, and firm.
We tested the medium version, which we found had a medium-firm feel, 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale. The medium version will be the best choice for the vast majority of sleepers.
That said, if you weigh less than 120 pounds, sleep exclusively on your side, and/or simply love the plush feel, then the soft version is an option.

Likewise, if you weigh more than 280 pounds, sleep exclusively on your stomach or back, and/or simply love the firm feel, then the firm version is an option.
In our assessment of the material quality, I’m pleased with what we experienced, saw, and measured. Foams are high-quality, high-density, and the comfort layer is considerably thicker than average.
Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.
Soft Version
| Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleeper | Side Sleeper | Back Sleeper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 150 lbs. | Maybe | Yes | Maybe |
| 150-250 lbs. | Maybe | Yes | Maybe |
| 250-300 lbs. | Maybe | Yes | Maybe |
Medium Version
| Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleeper | Side Sleeper | Back Sleeper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| 150-250 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| 250-300 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Firm Version
| Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleeper | Side Sleeper | Back Sleeper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Maybe | Yes |
| 150-250 lbs. | Yes | Maybe | Yes |
| 250-300 lbs. | Yes | Maybe | Yes |
These foams at this price point are impressive and really only achievable due to the fact that 3Z (which owns Brooklyn Bedding and Helix, among other brands) owns their own factory and pours their own foams. You simply will not see this level of material quality and design at this price in many other places.

In addition, this mattress uses zoned support via an extra supportive layer of foam in the lumbar region just above the coil unit. Ideally, I prefer to see zoned support via a coil unit, but it’s also better to have zoned foam than no zoning at all. Zoned support helps to improve support, reduce sagging, and extend the life of the mattress.
Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident that most sleepers will find support on the Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX Elite to be outstanding.

The Cover
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance LX Elite has a 2.25″ plush pillow top cover.

The pillow top includes a layer of foam infused with temperature-regulating Phase Change Material (PCM) that is designed for better cooling performance.
The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer is 6.25″ thick and made of three distinct layers of foam. Directly below the pillow top is a 1.0″ memory foam (gray foam) followed by a 1.0″ poly foam (teal foam), and lastly a 1.5″ latex foam (off-white foam).

By using different types of foam within this comfort layer, LX Elite provides a balanced feel with deep sinkage, but not an overly enveloping contour.
The Support Layer
The support layer is 9.75″ thick and made of 8.0″ pocketed coils sandwiched between two layers of foam. Right below the comfort layer is a 0.75″ poly foam (teal foam) followed by the coils.
Within the coil unit, each coil is pocketed individually, which improves pressure relief and limits motion as well.

Below the coils is a 1.0″ support foam. This helps provide support at the base of the mattress.
Product Evolution
The Brooklyn Bedding ThermoBalance collection is new to Brooklyn Bedding, having recently been added in 2026.
Among the ThermoBalance collection are 4 different hybrids, all aimed at exceptional cooling performance.
