How is Airweave Nagomi 1.1 Different?

The Airweave Nagomi 1.1 is a 9.50″ specialty mattress with an overall performance level that is slightly below average and a price that is significantly above average.

Advantages

Advantages of the Airweave mattress include better cooling performance, extremely fast material response time, and fantastic edge support. Sex performance is also significantly better than average, largely due to higher levels of bounce.

The nature of the polyethylene fiber core gives this mattress zero off-gassing. If you are sensitive to strong odors and prefer an extra firm feel, this mattress could be checking all of the right boxes for you.

Neutral Factors

The Nagomi 1.1 mattress has a moderate level of sinkage and very high bounce. These two factors are considered neutral since different sleepers may have different preferences in this area.

Disadvantages

Some disadvantages of the Airweave include higher levels of motion transfer and good, but not great pressure relief.

Aside from mattress performance, the more concerning elements of the Airweave is the price and return policy. This mattress is 93% more expensive than the average specialty mattress and nearly 3X the cost of the average mattress (considering all mattresses we’ve tested to date).

And furthermore, if you end up not enjoying the mattress and you want to return it, the return fee is astronomically high—over $800 for a Queen mattress.

Airweave offers a partial refund, assuming that you contact their team between day 14 and day 60 of your mattress being delivered. The high return fee for sending back an Airweave covers a $199 transportation fee and a 15% recycling fee ($674 for a queen mattress).

The Airweave Nagomi 1.1 has excellent cooling. During our tests, I did not experience any significant level of heat retention on my body.

This mattress has one of the most unique and novel material designs I’ve ever seen. 7.0” out of the 9.5” total design is polyethylene fibers formed into rectangular blocks. These blocks of interwoven fibers have numerous air pockets woven within.

• Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
• Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
• Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

In addition, their very nature as a more solid material means they aren’t able to retain heat easily, especially compared to most types of foam. Lastly, this mattress simply has a fairly thin comfort layer and those comfort materials aren’t solid foam layers.

This combination of polyethylene fiber blocks and a limited comfort layer sets the stage for great cooling.

In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 90.9° F. This is 0.6° warmer than the average of 90.3° F, based on all of our tests to date.

After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 4.9 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 0.1 degrees cooler than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.8 degrees.

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is excellent.

The Airweave Nagomi 1.1 has moderate sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.06″. This is 0.19″ less sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.25″, based on all of our tests to date.

The mattress creates only the slightest amount of body-contouring hug. Instead of foam layers wrapping around and contouring the body, this mattress creates more of a buoyant, floating feel.

The body lies more “on” the mattress as opposed to sinking down “in” the mattress. It has an incredibly unique and incredibly polarizing feel. Some sleepers will love this feel, but others may find it’s simply too extreme.

The extra firm feel creates a high degree of support and pushback. However, it does so at the cost of pressure relief. The sleeper who will enjoy the Airweave Nagomi will need to strongly prefer a firm feel with a floating, buoyant feel and a ton of pushback.

The Airweave Nagomi 1.1 has a moderate level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 11.08 m/s². This is 26% more motion transfer than the average of 8.80 m/s².

The high degree of motion transfer is a product of the high bounce. The Airweave measured one of the highest levels of bounce we’ve ever tested on a mattress (13.38”).

All of that extra bounce means there is a ton of extra energy on the mattress that needs to be dissipated. Airweave’s polyethylene support blocks just aren’t able to disperse or absorb that energy quickly. As a result, we see motion notably worse than average.

The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.

In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.2 seconds. Motion drops off briefly before we see a notable secondary energy spike from 0.6 to 0.7 seconds.

After which, we see motion declining between the medicine ball’s subsequent bounces before measuring a notable tertiary acceleration spike from 1.0 to 1.1 seconds. Motion further declines and begins to stabilize thereafter.

At 1.94 seconds, we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy, which is 1.03 seconds longer than the average motion duration of 0.91 seconds. When we look at the complete picture of motion transfer data, it’s just not good.

We measured higher-than-average motion intensity and longer-than-average motion duration. Overall, motion transfer on this mattress is considerably worse than average and, as a result, could be problematic for those who share a bed.

The Airweave Nagomi 1.1 has an extremely fast material response.

In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.2 seconds, which is 0.22 seconds faster than the average of 0.42 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.

In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.3 seconds, which is 0.73 seconds faster than the average of 1.03 seconds.

These material recovery speeds are effectively instant and tied for 1st with a number of other mattresses we’ve tested as the fastest responsiveness tests we’ve measured so far.

The combination of no foam, limited sinkage, and incredibly resilient polyethylene fiber blocks creates the right material conditions for fast responsiveness. The faster material recovery speed means this mattress is incredibly easy to move around on, change positions, and get in / out of bed.

The Airweave Nagomi 1.1 has a very high level of bounce.

During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 13.38″. This is 4.72″ more bounce than the average of 8.66″, based on all of our tests to date. The high degree of bounce is a product of the polyethylene fiber blocks and the extra firm feel.

The support blocks are incredibly resilient, springy, and supportive. Those material attributes mean that they are able to return a high degree of bounce when you come into contact with them.

The higher bounce is incredibly beneficial for ease of movement and sex performance. However, it’s also making motion transfer significantly worse.

It may be helpful to consider what’s most important to; a mattress with better sex performance and better ease of movement (the Airweave)? Or a mattress with lower motion transfer (something other than Airweave)?

The Airweave Nagomi 1.1 has outstanding sitting edge support and outstanding lying edge support.

In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 1.50″. This is 2.35″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 3.85″, based on all of our tests to date.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was outstanding in all sleeping positions. Notably, this mattress does not use any type of reinforced support material. Even so, it clearly does not need it.

The Airweave mattress has an extra firm feel and incredibly resilient and supportive materials, delivering a high degree of pushback. This material feel also extends to the edge of the mattress, where we see an incredibly robust edge support for both sitting and lying.

In fact, Airweave has the most supportive sitting edge support we’ve ever tested, ranking #1 with just 1.50” of sitting edge sinkage (out of 460 other tests). When it comes to edge support, it just doesn’t get any better than this.

The Airweave Nagomi 1.1 has excellent sex performance. First up, let’s talk through the biggest positives. Bounce is extremely high, measuring in at 13.38”. That is significantly more bounce than average.

When it comes to bounce, more is almost always better as it helps make sex easier, less strenuous, and less tiring.

In addition, we measured incredibly robust sitting edge sinkage at just 1.50” of sitting sinkage compression. This more robust edge support extends the usable surface area of the mattress.

Moving on, noise also earned a perfect 10/10 score as the mattress creates only a minimal amount of noise. With an excellent, but not quite perfect score, we have cooling.

And lastly, we have pressure relief, which earned a good, but not great score. Pressure relief is the only notable area where it’s fair to say the lack of performance will be noticeable.

All that being said, and all factors considered, the Airweave Nagomi is an incredibly strong performer for sex, earning among the very best scores we’ve ever seen.

The Airweave Nagomi 1.1 has a good level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt a slight amount of pressure point buildup. While it’s clear the pressure relief performance doesn’t rise to the excellent or outstanding level, the Airweave still has reasonably good comfort.

The mattress is equipped with 2.5″ of comfort material, which is 1.88″ less comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.38″, based on all of our tests to date. The 2.5” comfort layer does a nice job of creating some immediate comfort for the body.

The 1.5” quilted cover in particular is doing much of the heavy lifting when it comes to comfort. Even so, the limited thickness of the comfort layer means the body engages with and notably feels the support materials below, which are incredibly hard, buoyant, and bouncy.

In some ways, this mattress feels a bit like a taller version of a Japanese-style futon. You have the comfort layers sitting atop a 7.0” support layer that’s extra supportive and extra firm.

That being said, the comfort dynamic on this mattress is not going to be well liked by all sleepers. This mattress has both a highly unique and highly polarizing feel. The extra firm feel is such that it effectively requires you to sleep on your stomach or back.

In addition, the mattress creates more of a buoyant and floating feel where your body will lie more “on” the mattress as opposed to sinking down “in” the mattress. You’ll need to strongly prefer these feel and comfort parameters in order to find the pressure relief acceptable on this mattress.

When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be good.

The Airweave Nagomi 1.1 had no smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 0 days. This is 7.6 days shorter than the average smell duration of 7.6 days.

While this mattress does ship in 2 large boxes, it is not compressed or rolled like many other mattresses. Instead, the individual components are shipped full-sized and you’ll need to assemble the various components of the mattress.

Airweave mattresses come with a 60-night trial period and a 10-year warranty. Shipping is free. Returns are $873 (for a Queen size), which include a $199 transportation service fee and 15% recycling fee.

Airweave has the most expensive return fee we have seen to date.

Comparing 120+ brands tested to date, the average trial period is 196 nights, 125 nights more than Airweave offers.

The average warranty is 13 years, which is 3 years more than the Airweave warranty. Additionally, this excludes the 42% of mattresses that offer lifetime warranties.

The Airweave Nagomi 1.1 is only available in a single firmness option—extra firm. This is a firmness rating of 9 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm. Both Airweave and I agree on this rating.

This makes the Nagomi 1.1 among the most firm mattresses we’ve tested to date, as we have not yet rated any at a 10/10.

Support on the Airweave Nagomi 1.1 is excellent. During our tests, I felt well supported on my stomach and back. That said, I found the mattress far too firm to sleep on my side.

The mattress is equipped with a 7.0″ support layer. This is 0.98″ thinner than the average support layer thickness of 7.98″, based on all of our tests to date. Mattresses that create the best support meet two major requirements.

First, they create a neutral spinal alignment. And second, they create sufficient comfort and pressure relief. With respect to neutral spinal alignment, this mattress is only able to achieve that for back and stomach sleepers. While lying on my side, I found the mattress simply created excessive pushback, preventing proper alignment.

Moving on to pressure relief, I found the mattress created good, but not amazing, comfort. That being said, given the extra firm feel, a more limited pressure relief dynamic is about what we expect. For sleepers who love a super firm feel, I expect this comfort dynamic will be acceptable.

Speaking of which, this mattress is available in a single firmness, which we found to be extra firm, a 9 out of 10 on our firmness scale. This firmness is only appropriate for back and stomach sleepers, and even then, you’ll need to be someone who really wants and needs a super firm feel to find this mattress comfortable.

In all mattress tests, we make it a point to cut the mattress open to assess material quality. In doing so, I’m generally pleased with what we found. The polyethylene fiber support blocks look and feel high quality and are certainly highly supportive.

I have strong confidence in the durability and longevity of this mattress, especially given the incredibly firm feel. Sagging is one of the most common durability issues we see, and I don’t expect to see any significant sagging on this mattress.

Lastly, this mattress does not utilize zoned support. Instead, we have a consistent firmness from head to foot. Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident most sleepers will find support on the Airweave Nagomi 1.1 to be excellent.

Within the Airweave collection, the Nagomi is one of their most popular mattresses and is a step up in quality and design from their signature original Airweave mattress.

While the Nagomi collection does not offer the customizable firmness of the Takumi collection, it is significantly lower in price, making it a more attractive option for budget-conscious sleepers.

The Airweave Nagomi 1.1 is 9.50″ thick and contains a combination of fibers (both polyester and polyethylene) as well as a quilted cover. From top to bottom, here is a full list of the materials used in this mattress:

The Airweave Nagomi 1.1 has a 1.5″ quilted cover. Grid-line quilted patterns keep the cover material uniform and supportive.

The comfort layer is 2.50″ thick, including the quilted cover. Beneath the cover is a 1.0″ polyester fiber pad. This provides a bit more comfort, but is still relatively thin.

For better pressure relief, I would have liked to have seen a thicker comfort layer, but given the targeted extra-firm feel of the Nagomi 1.1, I’m not too surprised by this design and thickness.

The support layer is 7.00″ thick and made of two base layers of Airfiber blocks (polyethylene fiber). These layers feel a bit like hard, rigid fishing line and are extruded in such a way that they provide an open-grid support system that is cool, responsive, and extra firm.

Product Evolution

Airweave launched the original Nagomi 1.0 in October 2024, as part of the new Yume collection. The 1.0 Nagomi was designed for sleepers looking for a basic design and extra firm feel.

In February 2025, the Nagomi 1.1 was introduced with a few changes.

• Two layers of polyethylene fibers (only one layer on the 1.0)
• Adding thicker quilted cover
• Changes to fiber barrier (details listed below)

One particularly interesting note between the Airweave Nagomi 1.0 mattress and the 1.1 version is the use of fiberglass.

The 1.0 version originally contained a separate inner fire-retardant cover that contained glass fiber.

The 1.1 version has an integrated flame-retardant design that uses carbon-based materials directly on the outer cover (a combination of 78% polyester, 14% rayon, and 8% sulfar). This eliminates the need for an extra fire-retardant cover.
