The Verdict

WinkBeds is one of the most-awarded companies, known for its plush luxury pillowtop designs, including hybrids, latex hybrids, memory foam (all-foam), and plus-sized models. DreamCloud, on the other hand, is more of a value brand that makes hybrids, memory foam, and memory foam hybrids.

WinkBeds has a much wider range of firmness options, from soft (4) to firm (8 out of 10). Conversely, DreamCloud mattresses have a narrow firmness range of medium (5) to medium-firm (6 out of 10).

When it comes to price, WinkBeds have an average price of $1,899, based on 5 mattresses that range from $1,799 to $1,999. DreamCloud has an average mattress price of $1,387, with 4 tiers of all-foam and hybrid options starting at $699 up to $2,199.

The average WinkBeds mattress performance is 9.15, and the average DreamCloud mattress performance trails behind at 8.71. For reference, the average mattress performance score is 8.53, so both brands are solidly above-average.

DreamCloud is a much more affordable brand, with options priced 1/3 of WinkBeds models. However, while WinkBeds may not offer the full gamut of price levels, they successfully deliver on their luxury mattress promise and have a wider range of firmness options to choose from.

Which Mattress Should You Buy?

The mattresses earning the title for “best overall” from each brand have the highest overall performance. Overall performance is determined by scores from 8 different categories including cooling, motion transfer, response time, edge support, sex performance, pressure relief, off-gassing, and company.

Sinkage and bounce are also taken into consideration, but they are not direct scoring factors.

Between WinkBeds and DreamCloud, the two top recommendations are Winkbed and DreamCloud Premier Hybrid.

It’s priced at $1,099, which is roughly $400 less expensive than average. It performed exceptionally well in motion transfer, response time, and company policies, making it a great mattress for sleepers of all sleeping positions.

Read Review

The WinkBed and DreamCloud Premier Hybrid are both bed-in-the-box hybrid mattresses, yet they exist in two different pricing tiers. At $1,099, the Premier Hybrid is $600 less expensive than the WinkBed. This makes it more accessible to more sleepers.

With that extra money, WinkBed more than justifies its price through top-tier performance and an all-around luxurious feel. The WinkBed is currently the highest-scoring mattress we’ve tested to date. While not quite on this level, the DreamCloud Premier Hybrid is solidly above-average in the top 17% tested.

This means WinkBed has the advantage in most categories, except that the Premier Hybrid is slightly better in motion transfer. One of the biggest luxury features of the WinkBed is its cover, which is thick and filled with gel foam. The DreamCloud cover is good, but it doesn’t quite make it to the luxurious level.

In the end, the WinkBed has the DreamCloud Premier Hybrid beat in nearly every area, except for price. If $1,799 is within your budget, the WinkBed is your best bet. If you can’t stretch it too far beyond $1,000, DreamCloud is still a fantastic choice.

Firmness

Looking at all available mattresses we’ve tested, WinkBeds range in firmness from 4 to 8 out of 10, and DreamCloud mattresses range from 5 to 6 out of 10.

WinkBeds makes two mattresses with the soft, medium-firm, and firm options. DreamCloud has a few models with a medium (5) rating, which is a little softer than the standard medium-firm (6). But if you want a particularly soft or firm feel, choose the WinkBed or WinkBed GravityLux.

Not sure which firmness you need? Your ideal mattress firmness depends on two major factors—sleeping position and body weight. With the right firmness, your body and spine will maintain proper alignment when sleeping.

What Firmness Is Right For You2

Lightweight sleepers or those who sleep on their side tend to need a softer mattress. By comparison, heavier sleepers or those who sleep on their back or stomach tend to need more support and a firmer feel.

Cooling Test

Cooling is one of the most important factors for sleepers, as overheating is a common complaint about mattresses, which prevents a good night’s sleep. Between WinkBeds and DreamCloud, WinkBeds is the better brand in terms of cooling.

Our tests yielded an average cooling score for WinkBeds at 9.7, with scores ranging from 9.0 to 10.

Among the three DreamCloud mattresses in this comparison, they earned an average cooling score of 8.7, with scores ranging from 8.0 to 9.0.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding cooling.

  • Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
  • Ending Temperature (after 5 minutes) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

Below, you can watch a video of how the heat dissipates on each mattress during our cooling test. For this test, we lie on the mattress for 15 minutes, get off the mattress, and then take periodic surface-level temperature measurements.

WinkBed

WinkBed Plus

DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid

WinkBed EcoCloud

DreamCloud Premier Hybrid

The average cooling score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.6. Based on this, only the DreamCloud Hybrid performed at a below-average level.

The WinkBed and WinkBed Plus had the highest cooling performance, each earning a 10/10. DreamCloud’s best models were the DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid and the Premier Hybrid, which only reached the 9.0 level.

Ultimately, WinkBeds makes a better mattress for cooling, but the value from the more affordable DreamCloud options is hard to deny.

Sinkage Test

Sinkage is a preferential factor; some sleepers prefer more, others less. Our measurements inform the type of feel one can expect on a mattress. Both WinkBeds and DreamCloud offer deep sinkage relative to the average mattress.

The WinkBeds have an average sinkage depth of 2.38″, with their mattresses ranging from 2.35 to 2.50″.

The DreamCloud models have an average sinkage depth of 2.28″, with a range of 2.10 to 2.48.

The average sinkage depth across all mattresses tested to date is 2.23″.

Back and stomach sleepers usually prefer less sinkage, which better maintains proper alignment of their spine. The Dreamcloud Luxe Hybrid (2.10″) is the only mattress with less sinkage than average.

Generally, side sleepers enjoy a deeper level of sinkage, as that typically translates to better pressure relief and contour. For deeper sinkage, opt for the WinkBed (2.38″), WinkBed Plus (2.5″), WinkBed EcoCloud (2.35″), Dreamcloud Hybrid (2.48″), or Dreamcloud Premier Hybrid (2.24″).

Are you over 300 lbs.? Heavier sleepers generally need a mattress with a firmer feel to maintain optimal support. The WinkBed Plus is the only model truly designed for heavier people in terms of the balance between comfort and support. However, the DreamCloud Ultra Hybrid may also be a decent option as well, though it’s not specifically designed for heavier-weighted bodies.

Motion Transfer Test

When it comes to motion transfer, DreamCloud beats WinkBeds. The three DreamCloud mattresses averaged a motion transfer score of 7.7, with a range of 9.2 to 9.8. WinkBeds averaged a 7.7, with a far greater range of 5.5 to 9.6.

Dreamcloud Luxe Hybrid Lounging 3
Dreamcloud Luxe Hybrid Lounging

WinkBeds best mattress is the WinkBed, with an exceptional score of 9.6. The WinKBed Plus was worse than average at a 7.9, and the WinkBed EcoCloud managed a horrendous 5.5.

High motion transfer is often seen on latex hybrid models, like the EcoCloud, because both the latex foam and coil unit are especially bouncy.

If you’re looking for the absolute lowest chance of disturbing your partner with getting in and out of bed during the night, the WinkBed or DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid will be your best bet. The EcoCloud may be best suited for solo sleepers.

Response Test

For response time, we use a weighted ball to act as a stand-in for the human body and measure the time it takes the mattress to reform back to its original shape after removing it. Here, the WinkBeds have the advantage over DreamCloud.

In our tests for these three WinkBed models, they earned an average response time score of 9.8, which is nearly perfect.

For DreamCloud, their models earned an average response time score of 9.2, with a range from 8.9 to 9.3.

The average response score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.8.

So while DreamCloud may not be quite as fast as WinkBeds, it’s still faster than average. The DreamCloud Hybrid and DreamCloud Premier Hybrid are the fastest, with 9.3 scores each.

WinkBeds has two mattresses that tie with the fastest speeds we’re able to measure. The WinkBed and WinkBed EcoCloud are both among the most lively, responsive mattresses tested to date. The EcoCloud uses latex foam, which is naturally one of the fastest materials used in mattresses.

Undoubtedly, both of these brands consistently make quickly responding mattresses that will avoid creating any sort of stuck feeling. However, if you need the most lively feeling surface, go with WinkBed.

Bounce Test

Now let’s talk about bounce. Similar to response, bounce is more of a preferential factor, but it can inform how lively a mattress feels for larger movements. Here, WinkBeds is the bouncier mattress brand over DreamCloud.

The WinkBeds mattress averaged an average bounce height of 10.43″, with a range from low at 6.75″ to extremely high at 14.58″.

DreamCloud mattresses averaged a bounce height of 7.07″, with a bounce range from 4.90″ to 9.05″.

WinkBed

DreamCloud Hybrid

WinkBed Plus

DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid

WinkBed EcoCloud

DreamCloud Premier Hybrid

The average bounce across all mattresses tested to date is 8.77″.

Mattresses with more bounce than average include the WinkBed (9.91″), WinkBed EcoCloud (14.58″), and DreamCloud Hybrid (9.05″).

Mattresses with less bounce than average include the WinkBed Plus (6.75″), DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid (4.90″), and DreamCloud Premier Hybrid (7.26″).

Mattresses with more bounce are better for ease of movement and increase sex performance. However, higher bounce also typically creates a higher level of motion transfer. So there are pros and cons when it comes to bounce.

Edge Support Test

For edge support, we measure the sitting edge compression and assess the support while lying at the edge in the 3 major sleeping positions. WinkBeds mattresses have much better edge support than DreamCloud mattresses.

Among the three WinkBeds models, the brand averaged an edge support score of 10 out of 10. Its scores range from 9.9 to 10.

The three DreamCloud models earned an edge support score of 8.7, with a range of scores between 8.2 and 9.1.

Dreamcloud Premier Hybrid Edge Support Test

The average edge support score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.7.

By this measure, only the DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid had below-average edge support. The DreamCloud Premier Hybrid and DreamCloud Hybrid both did slightly better than average, but each had room for improvement. All DreamCloud models have reinforced edge coils that are stronger than the coils used in the middle.

WinkBed Plus back sleeping

The WinkBed mattresses were nearly perfect, with 9.9 – 10 scores. They also all use a stronger coil at the perimeter of the mattress, seemingly to better effect. The thick latex layers in the EcoCloud compressed a bit worse than the other two, but all WinkBeds models had outstanding lying edge support.

Being able to trust the edge of your mattress allows you to maximize its surface area, as less supportive edges mean you’ll have to sleep closer in the middle. When you and your partner are having an unconscious border war, you’ll be glad for every inch. Speaking of, supportive edges are beneficial for amorous activities as well.

Sex Test

When it comes to our sex scores, we use a weighted formula that factors in 5 categories that impact sex performance. Here, WinkBeds beats out DreamCloud once again.

The three WinkBed models earned an average sex score of 8.9, with a range of scores from 7.8 to 9.8. The three DreamCloud models earned a much lower average sex score of 7.7, ranging from 6.7 to 8.5.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding sex.

DreamCloud Premier Hybrid7.87.09.1109.09.0

The average sex score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.2.

The only DreamCloud mattress to perform higher than this is the DreamCloud Hybrid with an 8.5. We can see the pattern with the more comfort material added to the DreamClouds, the worse sex score they receive.

Dreamcloud Premier Hybrid Edge Support
Dreamcloud Premier Hybrid Edge Support

This is an inherent problem with a heavy foam design, as the foam hinders bounce, which makes up 60% of the sex score.

WinkBeds models do not have this problem, at least not to a large degree. The WinkBed Plus suffers relative to the other models because of the heavy foams used to accommodate heavier bodies. On average, the WinkBeds design is far bouncier, has a stronger edge, and is ultimately best for sex.

Pressure Relief Test

Pressure relief is arguably the most important performance category, as it’s a review of comfort, support, and the likelihood of pressure points creating soreness while you sleep. Here, WinkBeds is better than DreamCloud.

The WinkBeds mattresses earned an average pressure relief score of 9.7, with scores ranging from 9.0 to 10. DreamCloud mattresses earned an average pressure relief score of 8.7, with scores ranging from 8.0 to 9.0.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding pressure relief.

DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid9.05.00″9.00″
DreamCloud Premier Hybrid9.04.50″9.00″

The average pressure relief score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.6.

The DreamCloud Hybrid is the cheapest in this 3v3 comparison, as well as the one with the least amount of comfort material. A score of 8.0 is still good and won’t create many problems for the average sleeper. But there’s room for improvement.

The DreamCloud Premier Hybrid adds more comfort material to the base model, and the DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid adds a bit more after that. However, their performance stays at the 9.0 level.

The materials included in each mattress are documented in the images below.

Each WinkBed model uses zoned support in the coil unit to add or lessen support where the body needs it. Only the DreamCloud Luxe has zoned support.

The WinkBed EcoCloud also earned a 9.0, with 4.0″ of latex foam. Latex can be polarizing for some sleepers, and without something to balance out its intense, unique feel, it stayed at a 9.0 (excellent) level.

The WinkBed and WinkBed Plus both earned perfect pressure relief scores. So if you want top-tier pressure relief, WinkBeds is the brand for you, but you’ll need to spend at least $1,799 to get it.

Off-Gassing Test

Off-gassing is a measure of how long a mattress takes to rid itself of noticeable material odors once it’s unboxed and the initial intensity of its smell. Once again, WinkBed comes out on top of DreamCloud.

WinkBeds models earned an average smell score of 9.4, with scores ranging from 8.6 to 10 and smell intensity ratings from none to strong.

The three DreamCloud models were entirely consistent, with each earning an 8.1 score and a strong initial smell.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding off-gassing.

WinkBed Plus9.7Moderate1 day
WinkBed EcoCloud8.6Strong5 days
Dreamcloud Hybrid8.1Strong7 days
Dreamcloud Luxe Hybrid8.1Strong7 days
Dreamcloud Premier Hybrid8.1Strong7 days

The average smell duration across all mattresses tested to date is 7.13 days.

We measured the DreamCloud Hybrid, DreamCloud Premier Hybrid, and DreamCloud Luxe Hybrid at 7 days each, which is exactly average. That’s not to say a week to dissipate odors is ideal, but it’s reasonable based on our data.

It’s not surprising that the EcoCloud was the lowest score for WinkBeds, as latex can be intense. However, it doesn’t omit a synthetic smell that many people struggle to breathe in. Rather, it’s a more natural rubbery odor (still intense though).

Winkbed Ecocloud Squeezing Top Layers
WinkBed Ecocloud Squeezing Top Layers

Despite being compressed in a box like the others, the WinkBed had zero initial smell and, therefore, a 0-day smell duration. The WinkBed Plus was similar, but just a little worse at 1 day, no doubt from the extra material added for heavy people.

Ultimately, WinkBeds and DreamCloud mattresses are both no worse than average. But if you really can’t handle the smell of polyurethane, the WinkBeds models are the way to go.

Finally, let’s discuss the broad company policies that may affect one’s preference towards one brand or another. In our assessment, DreamCloud is slightly better than WinkBeds in terms of consumer-friendly policies.

WinkBeds offers sleepers a 120-night trial period, a lifetime warranty, free shipping, and free returns.

DreamCloud offers the exact same except their trial period is a full 365-night duration—not just longer than WinkBeds, but longer than the average across all mattresses tested.

To date, we have tested 391+ mattresses from 103 different brands. The average trial length is 175 nights and the average warranty is 14 years, excluding 42% of mattresses that offer lifetime warranties.

While DreamCloud takes the win by having a longer trial period, both WinkBeds and DreamCloud are shining examples of modern, consumer-friendly company policies.
