Our Verdict

Between Casper and Helix, both brands are well-known in the mattress market and launched in 2014 and 2015, respectively.

Over time, the Helix lineup has expanded greatly while Casper’s collection remains smaller. Both companies offer hybrid mattresses. Casper also has memory foam hybrids and foam mattresses. Helix focuses on hybrids, plus-sized hybrids and thinner kids’ hybrids as well.

Regarding firmness, Casper has a range of 4.5 (soft) to 6 (medium-firm), while Helix’s range is quite a bit wider—4 (soft) to 8 (firm). If you want something soft or medium-firm, either brand could be well-suited, but for a firmer mattress, Helix is the better option.

Both brands have a similar average price, but Casper technically offers the lower sticker price. The average Casper mattress is $1,771 and the average Helix mattress is $1,893, a difference of only $122 between the two brands. Casper has pricing that’s more varied by model, while Helix mattresses are divided into three price tiers (Standard—$999, Luxe—$1,899, and Elite—$2,999).

Casper has an average performance score of 8.49 and Helix has an average score of 9.02. Helix earned a notably better average score across our battery of objective and data-driven tests.

When we consider Helix’s broad firmness range and 3 price tiers, it’s easy to see what makes Helix attractive to sleepers of all price points, sleeping positions, and firmness preferences. While Casper has a few wins, overall, the collection isn’t as all-encompassing as Helix.

Read Review

Both the Casper Dream Max and Helix Midnight Luxe are mattresses I would recommend as high-quality hybrids, but they have very different feels. These two mattresses represent the best of the best from both Casper and Helix, but Casper’s does come in at a higher price point.

When we compare the mattresses side by side, there are a few notable differences. The biggest difference is firmness—Casper Dream Max has a soft feel (4.5 out of 10) while the Helix Midnight Luxe has a medium-firm feel (6 out of 10).

The Dream Max has deeper sinkage and significantly higher bounce as well.

Casper’s softer feel and deeper sinkage make it a good choice for exclusive side sleepers, while the Helix Midnight Luxe is a better choice all-around due to the medium-firm feel.

Looking at performance, the Midnight Luxe beats Casper in terms of cooling, motion transfer, edge support, pressure relief, and smell. However, Casper does take the edge for material response time and sex.

For most sleepers, Helix is the better choice. But if you prefer a softer feel the Casper can also be a good pick.

Not sure which firmness you need? Your ideal mattress firmness depends on two major factors—sleeping position and body weight. With the right firmness, your body and spine will maintain proper alignment when sleeping.

What Firmness Is Right For You2

Lightweight sleepers or those who sleep on their side tend to need a softer mattress. By comparison, heavier sleepers or those who sleep on their back or stomach tend to need more support and a firmer feel.

Cooling Test

Cooling performance for both brands is great; however, Helix has the higher average score (9.7). Casper’s average of 9.0 was brought down by the good, but not great, performance of the Casper One.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding cooling.

  • Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
  • Ending Temperature (after 5 minutes) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

Below, you can watch a video of how the heat dissipates on each mattress during our cooling test. For this test, we lie on the mattress for 15 minutes, get off the mattress, and then take periodic surface-level temperature measurements.

Casper One

Helix Midnight

Casper Dream

Helix Midnight Luxe

Casper Snow Hybrid

Helix Midnight Elite

The average cooling score across all mattresses tested to date is 9.0.

The Casper Snow, Helix Midnight Luxe, and Midnight Elite are all mattresses that earned a 10/10 score for cooling performance. They are each hybrid mattresses with pocketed coils and a foam comfort layer.

All three mattresses use a phase change cover, which offers a cool-to-the-touch feel. The phase change cover is an optional upgrade on the Helix Midnight Luxe, and the version we tested included the cover.

Casper Snow Hybrid 2024 Cover Close
Casper Snow Hybrid Cover Close

Each of these mattresses offers additional cooling benefits, like phase change spray in the case of the Casper Snow, or optional cooling ribbons in the case of the Helix Midnight Luxe and Elite (Casper Snow also has cooling ribbons).

All that said, these three mattresses all offer exceptional cooling.

Among all 6 mattresses compared, the Casper One offered the worst cooling performance. Due to its all-foam design and lack of cooling upgrades, lower performance for cooling isn’t a big surprise. All-foam mattresses tend to retain more heat and dissipate it more slowly.

Sinkage Test

For sinkage, Casper offers less sinkage on average (2.0″ of sinkage) compared to Helix’s deeper sinkage of 2.3″. Casper sinkage levels are either minimal or deep and Helix sinkage levels are moderate or deep.

If you are looking for deep sinkage, both brands have options available. That said, if you prefer minimal sinkage, Casper is the better choice. For moderate sinkage levels, Helix will better match that feel.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding sinkage.

Helix Midnight Elite

Helix Midnight Elite 2025 Sinkage Test

The average sinkage depth across all mattresses tested to date is 2.19″.

Back and stomach sleepers usually prefer less sinkage, which better maintains proper alignment of the spine. The Helix Midnight Luxe (2.03″), Casper Dream (1.89″), and Casper One (1.77″) all have less sinkage than average and are also a good value (a balance of price and performance).

Generally, side sleepers enjoy a deeper level of sinkage, as that typically translates to better pressure relief and contour. For deeper sinkage, opt for the Helix Midnight (2.2″), Casper Snow Hybrid (2.36″), or Helix Midnight Elite (2.57″).

Motion Transfer Test

Motion transfer is a closer race, but Helix takes the win over Casper. While they aren’t perfect, Helix has a higher average motion transfer score (9.1) than Casper (8.2).

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding motion transfer.

The average motion transfer score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.2.

The mattress with the lowest motion transfer across all 6 is the Helix Midnight Luxe, with a score of 9.7 out of 10. From there, the Helix Midnight Elite, Casper Snow Hybrid, and Helix Midnight all had lower motion transfer than average.

Both the Casper Dream and Casper One had worse scores than average, though not by much. Both of these mattresses have minimal sinkage, which can create excess motion.

Response Test

Response time is a factor where Casper takes the lead over Helix, though neither brand’s average beats the average across all mattresses tested to date.

For reference, Casper’s average response score is an 8.3, whereas the average response score for Helix is a 7.8.

Two mattresses in this comparison boast better-than-average response times. These include the Casper One and Casper Dream, both of which scored a 9.9 out of 10. They both took 0.2 seconds to mostly recover and 0.4 seconds for a full recovery.

Casper One Squeezing Materials
Casper One Squeezing Materials

While Casper offers the best, it also offers the worst of the 6 in this comparison. The Casper Snow had significantly longer response times than average, taking 2.8 seconds to mostly recover and 5.1 seconds to fully recover.

None of the other mattresses beat our testing average. That said, the best Helix performance came from the Midnight Luxe, with a score of 8.4.

Bounce Test

Bounce, being a preferential factor, can still be important for sleepers and there are differences between Casper and Helix.

Casper mattresses have either moderate or high bounce. On the other hand, Helix mattresses offer low or moderate bounce.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding bounce.

The level of bounce for each mattress is documented in the videos below.

Casper One

Helix Midnight

Casper Dream

Casper Snow Hybrid

Helix Midnight Elite

The average bounce across all mattresses tested to date is 8.99″.

Mattresses with more bounce than average include the Casper Dream (10.73″) and Casper Snow Hybrid (9.54″).

Mattresses with less bounce than average include the Casper One (8.77″), Helix Midnight (8.21″), Helix Midnight Luxe (6.74″), and Helix Midnight Elite (6.86″).

Mattresses with more bounce are better for ease of movement and increased sex performance. However, higher bounce also typically creates a higher level of motion transfer. So there are pros and cons when it comes to bounce.

Edge Support Test

Concerning edge support, Helix mattresses offer better-than-average performance, with an average score of 9.5.

Casper’s brand average also beats our testing average with a score of 8.8. That said, it offers mattresses that perform worse than average as well.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding edge support.

Across all 6 mattresses compared, the Helix Midnight Luxe is the only mattress with a perfect score. With only 2.75″ of sinkage while sitting and outstanding support while lying, it’s hard to beat the Midnight Luxe.

Helix Midnight Luxe 2025 Edge Support Sitting
Helix Midnight Luxe 2025 Edge Support Sitting

The highest-scoring mattress for Casper is the Snow Hybrid with a score of 9.4. It offers excellent support whether sitting or lying. This level of performance is comparable to the Helix Midnight (9.5), but falls short of the Midnight Luxe.

The Casper Dream is the worst-performing mattress when it comes to sitting edge sinkage. At 4.00″ of sinkage, it has the most in this comparison. That said, the Casper One lacks support while lying at the edge, giving it the lowest score in this comparison, an 8.2.

Sex Test

Sex performance is another category where Casper takes the win. Casper’s average sex score is 8.8 and Helix’s average sex score is 8.0.

This score is generated by analyzing 5 different factors—bounce, edge support, cooling, pressure relief, and noise.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding sex.

Helix Midnight Elite7.76.89.1101010

The average sex score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.2.

Most mattresses have better-than-average performance. The Casper Dream, Casper Snow, Casper One, and Helix Midnight all have scores that beat the average.

The Casper Dream has a score of 9.1 and is the top performer of this comparison. It has high bounce and solid edge support, both of which are critically important for sex.

The Helix Midnight Luxe and Midnight Elite both had lower-than-average scores, largely due to the lack of bounce. While low bounce often facilitates lower motion transfer, it does no favors for sex performance.

Pressure Relief Test

Pressure relief can be one of the most important factors to consider, especially for side sleepers. The clear winner for this category is Helix.

Helix mattresses have an average pressure relief score of 9.7, with two mattresses having perfect scores. Casper had an average pressure relief score of 7.7.

The mattresses with the best pressure relief are the Helix Midnight Luxe and Midnight Elite, both earning 10/10 scores.

While it isn’t always true, pressure relief has a strong correlation to the thickness of the comfort layer. A mattress with a thicker comfort layer and sufficient support layer is one of the most effective ways to see improved pressure relief.

Helix Midnight Elite 2025 Sitting
Helix Midnight Elite 2025 Sitting

We can see this in effect with the Helix Midnight Luxe and Midnight Elite, both of which have comfort layers at 5.0″ or more.

On the other side, the Casper One has only 3.0″ of comfort material and a 7.0″ support layer. With less total material than every other mattress in this comparison, your body creates more significant contact with the support foam, which is quite hard.

Off-Gassing Test

The off-gassing experience is notably different between brands. Helix earned an average off-gassing score of 8.4, with smells lasting between 4-7 days.

Casper, on the other hand, had a score of 6.3 with the smell lasting anywhere from 8-20 days, significantly longer than Helix.

If you are sensitive to strong odors, Helix will be the better option as the off-gassing process is faster.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding off-gassing.

The only mattress with a shorter-than-average off-gassing period was the Helix Midnight Elite. That said, the Helix Midnight Luxe, Helix Midnight, and Casper Dream weren’t far from the average.

Casper Dream Open Cover

The Helix Midnight Luxe is a notable exception for having a moderate smell upon initial unboxing, compared to the strong smell from every other mattress.

The Casper Snow had the longest off-gassing period, being 3 times longer than the average and 5 times longer than the Helix Midnight Elite.

Both brands offer company policies that favor consumers, although Helix’s policies are slightly better.
