Our Verdict
The WinkBed is a 13.50″ hybrid mattress made of poly foam, Serene foam (a type of branded poly foam), pocketed coils, and a pillow top cover. It has a 4.50″ foam comfort layer and a support foam base. This mattress has an optional cooling cover you can add (Frost cover). The version we tested included the cooling cover.
The WinkBed is available in three firmness levels — softer, luxury firm, and firmer. There is also a version for plus-sized sleepers. We have tested all four versions of the WinkBed. This review is of the Luxury Firm version, which had a medium-firm feel, 6 out of 10 in our tests. The Softer version has a soft feel (4 out of 10) and the Firmer version has a firm feel (8 out of 10). The Winkebd Plus has a firmness rating of 6 out of 10, with a medium-firm feel.
This Luxury Firm version of this mattress has very deep sinkage and low levels of bounce. The WinkBed has a balanced contour, which makes this mattress a great option for a wide range of sleeper preferences.
In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 9.49, ranking the mattress in the top 1% of all mattresses tested to date. Winkbed is the #1 ranked mattress we have tested to date.
The WinkBed is $1,799 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 19% more expensive than the average hybrid we’ve tested. While the price is higher than average, if you’re in the market for a top-performing mattress, the WinkBed is an incredible option that suits a wide variety of sleepers.

How is WinkBed Different?
The WinkBed is a 13.50″ hybrid mattress with an overall performance level that is significantly higher than average and a price tag that is higher than average as well (19% more than the average hybrid mattress).
Advantages
The WinkBed mattress performs better than average in all 8 of our testing categories, including cooling, motion transfer, response time, edge support, sex, pressure relief, off-gassing, and company policies.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has very deep sinkage and low levels of bounce. Both sinkage and bounce are considered neutral factors since different sleepers may have different preferences.

That said, if you prefer to sleep “on a mattress”, the deeper sinkage of the WinkBed could be off-putting. In a similar vein, if you prefer a mattress with high bounce, the lower bounce may not be the best fit.
Disadvantages
Since the WinkBed performs above-average in all 8 of our performance tests, there are no real performance disadvantages to this mattress.
Price is the only real sticking point, as the WinkBed is priced 19% above average, costing sleepers an extra $292 for a queen mattress (over the cost of the average mattress). That said, when we consider the incredible overall performance of the WinkBed, the price feels more than fair.
Winkbed Softer vs. Luxury Firm vs. Firmer vs. Plus
We’ve tested all 4 firmness versions of Winkbed. You can see how the 4 versions perform relative to each other below:
| Factor | Softer | Luxury Firm | Firmer | Plus |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Firmness | 4 out of 10 | 6 out of 10 | 8 out of 10 | 6 out of 10 |
| Motion Transfer – Acceleration | 4.84 m/s² | 8.39 m/s² | 8.35 m/s² | 8.42 m/s² |

| Edge Support – Sitting | 3.75” | 3.00″ | 4.25″ | 2.00″ |
Cooling Test
The WinkBed has outstanding cooling. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of heat retention around my body. Quite the opposite. The mattress maintained a notable cool feel for the duration of our tests.
Baseline Temp.
74.9° F
Max. Temp.
87.8° F
Ending Temp.
78.5° F
This mattress is equipped with multiple design choices and materials that help to improve cooling.
First up, and arguably the biggest impact, WinkBed is available with an optional cooling fabric cover. The WinkBed we tested did include the optional cooling cover (Frost cover). The cover is woven with cooling fibers and they create a notable cool-to-touch feel.
That cooler feel was maintained throughout our cooling tests and made a significant impact on cooling performance.
Max. Temp.

Ending Temp.

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
In addition, the mattress uses a gel-infused foam that appears to breathe well and avoid heat retention. Lastly, we have the base layer of pocketed coils, which brings plenty of airflow into the mattress and further enhances breathability.
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 87.8° F. This is 2.4° cooler than the average of 90.2° F, based on all of our tests to date.
After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 3.8 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 1.0 degrees less cool than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.8 degrees.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is outstanding.
Sinkage Test
The WinkBed has very deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.70″. This is 0.45″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.25″, based on all of our tests to date.
Sinkage Depth
2.70″
Sinkage Feel
Very Deep
Body Contour
Balanced
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The mattress creates a balanced body contouring hug. While the sinkage depth is deeper than average, I never felt overly enveloped or trapped within the mattress. The foams within the mattress are all highly responsive.
This allows them to quickly return to their original shapes, improving ease of movement.
The WinkBed uses a mix of euro-style pillow top, Serene foam, poly foam, and pocketed coils to create a more balanced, even, and non-polarizing type of feel that many types of sleepers will enjoy.
Motion Transfer Test
The WinkBed has a low level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 8.39 m/s². This is 5% less motion transfer than the average of 8.79 m/s².
Accel. Range
8.39 m/s²
Motion Duration
0.94 seconds
WinkBed’s combination of 4.50” comfort layer, 2.0” Serene foam layer, and notably lower than average level of bounce are all working together to deliver a lower level of motion transfer.
The foam comfort layers, but especially the Serene foam, greatly absorb and reduce bounce. When there is less bounce, there is less energy to be dispersed, which helps to minimize motion transfer.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.25 seconds. Motion continues a gradual decline thereafter.
By 0.94 seconds, we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy, which is 0.05 seconds longer than the average motion duration of 0.89 seconds.
Motion Transfer Over Time

While motion duration is slightly longer than average, motion intensity is slightly less than average. As a result, the total motion transfer experience feels excellent. I expect most sleepers will find this level of motion transfer to be satisfactory.
Response Test
The WinkBed has an extremely fast mostly recovered response time and a fast fully recovered response time.
Mostly Recovered
0.2 sec.
Fully Recovered
0.7 sec.
In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.2 seconds, which is 0.22 seconds faster than the average of 0.42 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.
In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.7 seconds, which is 0.33 seconds faster than the average of 1.03 seconds.
While the fully recovered responsiveness speed isn’t quite instant, it’s still notably faster than average and plenty fast enough to avoid any type of stuck feeling on the mattress.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
The slightly slower recovery speed is the result of the 2.0” Serene foam layer, which takes a moment or so to fully recover to its original shape after it has been compressed.
The coils, pillow top, and poly foam layer are all rebounding back to shape effectively instantly.
Overall, I’m pleased with this level of response time. It’s more than fast enough to facilitate good ease of movement on the mattress.
Bounce Test
The WinkBed has a low level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 7.92″. This is 0.78″ less bounce than the average of 8.70″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Depth
5.77″
Max. Rebound
2.15″
Total Bounce
7.92″
The lower-than-average bounce is a product of the thick 4.50” comfort layer, but especially the 2.0” layer of Serene foam. The foams greatly absorb, disperse, and minimize energy transfer.
As a result, there is less energy that is available to deliver more bounce. To be fair, this is only slightly less bounce than average.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max. Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
Even so, the lower-than-average bounce is also helping to create a lower level of motion transfer. But that lower bounce also means sex performance is good, but not amazing (we’ll talk more about the sex performance further down the page).
Edge Support Test
The WinkBed has outstanding sitting edge support and outstanding lying edge support.
Max. Sinkage
3.00″
Lying Support
Outstanding
Reinforced Edge
Yes
In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.00″. This is 0.85″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 3.85″, based on all of our tests to date.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was outstanding in all sleeping positions.
The WinkBed mattress is equipped with 2 rows of reinforced support coils running along the entire perimeter of the mattress. The edge coils use a thick 13.75-gauge steel coil.
This is notably thicker than many others we’ve tested, and that extra coil thickness is certainly a major reason for the strong performance.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

That said, even WinkBed’s interior coil is a 14.75-gauge, which is on the thicker side as well. These coils work in concert with the thicker-than-average total profile, high-quality materials, and proven hybrid design to deliver fantastic edge support performance.
Overall edge support is fantastic, and I expect most sleepers will find it more than satisfactory.
Sex Test
The WinkBed has good sex performance. WinkBed has an unusual sex performance score, as 4 of the 5 sex testing categories earned perfect 10 out of 10 scores. This includes minimal noise and outstanding pressure relief, cooling, and edge support.

Edge support measured just 3.00” of sitting edge sinkage, which is significantly better than average. The more supportive edge extends the usable surface area of the mattress, which is beneficial for amorous activities.
While 4 of the 5 categories were fantastic, the last one, bounce, simply isn’t great. We measured bounce at 7.92”. This is notably less bounce than average. When it comes to amorous activities, we want to see bounce as high as possible.
| Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bounce | 65% | 7.4 | Moderate |
| Edge Support | 20% | 10 | Outstanding |
| Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
| Pressure Relief | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |
| Cooling | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |
WinkBed’s more restrained bounce is beneficial for motion transfer, but is certainly a detriment to sex performance. As a result, the total sex score on the mattress is good, but clearly has room for improvement.
Pressure Relief Test
The WinkBed has an outstanding level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant pressure points on my body. Instead, I found the WinkBed to be incredibly comfortable, even while lying in the same positions for extended periods of time.
Comfort Layer
4.50″
Support Layer
9.00″
The mattress is equipped with 4.50″ of comfort material, which is 0.06″ less comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.31″, based on all of our tests to date. This mattress uses a Euro-style pillow top (aka euro top).

This pillow top provides a balanced and even hug that creates excellent comfort, without excessively hugging or contouring the body.
Notably, this mattress does have a deeper sinkage level than average. That extra sinkage is especially beneficial for side sleepers, as it helps to bring the hips into a more neutral alignment with the rest of the body.

Overall, I found the feel to be one of balance. The mix of pillow top, Serene foam, poly foam, and coils works well together to deliver fantastic pressure relief with a feel that most sleepers will enjoy.
Lastly, in our objective pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 0.43, which is well within the 1.0 PSI max threshold that I ideally want to see.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Side Sleepers | 0.10 | 0.25 |
Pressure Map – Back Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Back Sleepers | 0.06 | 0.43 |
Pressure Map – Stomach Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Stomach Sleepers | 0.07 | 0.41 |
When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be outstanding.
Off-Gassing Test
The WinkBed had a moderate smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 1 day. This is 6.4 days shorter than the average smell duration of 7.4 days.

Company
WinkBeds mattresses come with a 120-night trial period and a lifetime warranty. Shipping and returns are both free.
If you decide to exchange the mattress for a different firmness (or a different WinkBed mattress), there will be a $49 exchange fee. This fee includes the removal of the old address, shipping of the new one, and any local recycling costs.
| Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
|---|---|---|---|
| Returns | 40% | 10 | $0 |
| Trial Period | 30% | 8.0 | 120 nights |
| Warranty | 20% | 10 | Lifetime |
| Shipping | 10% | 10 | $0 |
| Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
Comparing 115+ brands tested to date, the average trial period is 190 nights, 70 nights more than WinkBeds offers. While the trial is a little shorter on the WinkBed, 120 nights is still 4 months to decide if the mattress is right for you.

How firm is WinkBed?
The WinkBed comes in four different firmness options—Softer, Luxury Firm, Plus (designed for heavy people), and Firmer. We have tested all 4 versions of the Winkbed.
Softer
The Softer version comes in with a rating of 4 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm, which gives it a soft feel.

Luxury Firm
The Luxury Firm version has a 6 out of 10 rating, which gives it a medium-firm feel. This is the model used for this review, and it is the one I recommend for the vast majority of sleepers.

Firmer
Next up, the Firmer version has a 8 out of 10 firmness rating with a firm feel.

WinkBed Plus
Finally, the WinkBed Plus has a 6 out of 10 firmness rating. That said, it also has a material design tuned to the needs of heavier weighted sleepers. If you weigh more than 250 pounds the Winkbed Plus is a good choice.

Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the WinkBed is outstanding. During our tests, I felt well supported in all sleeping positions.
The mattress is equipped with a 9.0″ support layer. This is 1.03″ thicker than the average support layer thickness of 7.97″, based on all of our tests to date.
For a mattress to create ideal support, it must both fully support the body, creating a neutral spinal alignment, while also delivering sufficient comfort and pressure relief. WinkBed easily cleared both of these requirements.
| Support Factor | Data |
|---|---|
| Comfort Layer | 4.50″ |
| Support Layer | 9.00″ |
| Firmness | Soft, Medium-Firm, and Firm |
| Body Contour | Balanced |
| Zoned Support | Yes |
| Reinforced Edge | Yes |
WinkBed is available in 4 firmness levels, including softer (4), luxury firm (6), firmer (8), and plus (6).
We’ve tested all 4 versions, but the majority of our testing data in this review is based on the luxury firm model. The vast majority of sleepers will be best served by the luxury firm version.
In all NapLab mattress tests, we make a point to cut the mattress open to assess the material quality. In doing so, I’m pleased with what we saw and measured. The foams all look and feel high quality, both on the body and in-hand.

In addition, we also measured the density of the foams and gauge of the coils. I am extremely pleased with the coil gauges, which are thicker than what we typically see from other mattresses.
The foam densities aren’t the absolute best we’ve tested, but they are reasonable given the types of foam (euro top, poly foam, and a specialized type of poly foam called Serene foam).
Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.

Moving on, this mattress uses zoned support with 3 zones, including an extra supportive zoned layer in the center third of the mattress. Zoned support helps to improve support and reduce sagging.
Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident that most sleepers will find support on the WinkBed is outstanding.
Design

The Cover
The WinkBed has a 2.0″ thick pillow top cover. It is plush and provides a deeper level of sinkage.

For extra cooling performance, you can also opt for the Frost cooling cover. This costs sleepers an extra $125, regardless of mattress size. As a reminder, the WinkBed we tested did have the Frost cooling cover.
The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer is 4.50″ thick, including the 2.0″ pillow top cover. Directly below the cover, there is a 2.0″ poly foam (green foam) followed by a 0.50″ poly foam.

These elements work together to provide a robust comfort layer that allows the Winkbed to deliver pressure relief.
The Support Layer
The support layer is 9.00″ thick and made of an 8.0″ pocketed coil base followed by a 1.0″ support foam.

The coils are zoned at different locations. This creates more / less support where your body needs it, which improves pressure relief and comfort.
For example, coils at the mid-section provide increased support and are stronger than coils at the head or foot of the mattress.
Product Evolution
The WinkBed has been around since 2015 and has made a few changes to the initial design since its launch.
Two small changes that WinkBed has made since its initial launch include:
- SupportCell Foam. WinkBed replaced the 2″ micro-coil layer with a 2″ layer of a new type of high-performance poly foam call SupportCell foam.
- Higher coil count. WinkBed also increased the coil count by making each coil slightly smaller than earlier versions. More coils mean that the pressure of sleepers is distributed more evenly. In addition, it helped to further reduce motion transfer.
- Optional Frost cooling cover. In 2025, WinkBed came out with an optional cooling cover designed to limit heat retention and improve overall cooling. Adding the cooling cover costs $125, regardless of mattress size.
We tested the WinkBed in 2021 and again in 2026. There have been minimal differences made to the inside of the mattress, besides the aesthetics. You can compare the options side-by-side below:
WinkBed – 2021 Version

WinkBed – 2026 Version

The biggest difference between the 2021 model and the 2026 models include:
- Thinner Comfort Layer – The 2026 version has a 0.5″ foam directly above the coils, but in 2021, that foam was 1.0″ thick, a difference of 0.5″. That said, there were no negative effects on pressure relief, given the slightly thinner comfort layer.
- Deeper Sinkage – The 2026 version measured deeper sinkage than the 2021 version (sinkage varies for different firmness levels).
- Higher Levels of Motion Transfer – The 2026 version also has higher levels of motion transfer, although still less motion than the average mattress.
- Faster Response Time – Lastly, the 2026 version has a faster material response time than what we measured on the 2021 WinkBed.
