Our Verdict
The Winkbed EcoCloud mattress is a natural latex hybrid that contains 100% natural Talalay latex, pocketed coils, and an organic cotton cover. It has a 12″ profile and comes in a single firmness—medium, 5 out of 10 on the firmness scale.
It has deep sinkage and a super high bounce. This is going to make for a combination that is both extra comfortable while being easy to move around on.
The Winkbed EcoCloud has an overall performance score of 8.80, which ranks it among the top 36% of mattresses. Specifically looking at latex hybrids, it is ranked in the top 50% (basically average).
The mattress costs $1,699 for a queen-size model, which is $328 or 24% more expensive than your average mattress. For latex hybrids it is $120 or 8% more than average. Between relative performance and price, the EcoCloud is a good value, but we’ve seen better.
Whether this mattress is the best choice for you will come down to how much you prioritize its high motion transfer, Winkbed’s excellent company policies, and your preference for natural latex.

How is the EcoCloud Different?
The Winkbed EcoCloud mattress is the only latex hybrid offered by Winkbed. Its score is 8.80, which is both notably higher than the average performance score across all mattresses and much lower than the average Winkbed model score of 9.20.
The price of the EcoCloud is about on par for the average Latex Hybrid, if not slightly higher. Currently, it is $120 or 8% more than the average latex Hybrid.
Advantages
There are many areas that the EcoCloud outperforms the standard mattress. It has a slightly higher performance for Cooling, Off-G,assing and Pressure Relief, but it has a much higher performance for Response Time, Sex, and Company.

Neutral Factors
Regarding preferential categories like Sinkage and Bounce, the EcoCloud has both deeper and higher levels. Its sinkage was measured 9.3% higher than average while bounce measured a whopping 53.1% higher.
Disadvantages
The only drawbacks one could say about the Winkbed EcoCloud are its very high motion transfer levels and its price which is 24% higher than the average mattress.
Special Features
50% off Lifetime Replacement Guarantee – Winkbeds offers this special program that allows you to exchange your mattress for a new one (equal exchange, swap it for a different firmness, or opt for a different Winkbed entirely). This exchange costs you just 50% of the current price. If you are concerned with replacement or warranty issues, this program may settle some fears.

Natural Latex – The EcoCloud mattress is made of natural materials including Talalay latex and an organic cotton cover. It skips additives like synthetic foams, fibers, fillers, glues, or dyes.
Cooling Test
Cooling performance on the Winkbed EcoCloud is excellent. During our tests, I felt no significant heat retention around my body. The EcoCloud uses a proven design and proven materials.
Baseline Temp.
75.4° F
Max Temp.
86.2° F
Ending Temp.
78.0° F
Latex hybrids similar to the EcoCloud are used widely across the industry due to their excellent cooling performance, durability, and pressure relief. The latex itself does not retain heat, while the pocketed coil base creates plenty of airflow, cycling air in and out of the mattress.
Max Temp.

Ending Temp

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
Our objective tests measured a maximum surface level temperature of 86.2° F. From minutes 0 to 1 the EcoCloud was able to reduce the temperature by 4.7°.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

From minutes 0 to 5 that temperature reduction was 8.2°. When we consider our objective data, my subjective experience, and the material components, I am confident in my assessment that the Winkbed EcoCloud has excellent cooling.
Sinkage Test
The Winkbed EcoCloud has a deep level of sinkage. In our tests, we measured 2.35” of pressure point sinkage. Technically, this puts it in the “deep” sinkage level, but only by 0.05”. The latex hybrid design creates a more generalized contour around the body.
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

While the sinkage is in the moderate to deep range (for our pressure point tests with the medicine ball), the heavier parts of my body (especially butt / midsection) sink fairly dramatically into the mattress. The mattress creates excellent pressure relief through this more noted sinkage depth.
Motion Transfer Test
The Winkbed EcoCloud has a very high level of motion transfer. In our tests, we measured 14.92 m/s² of acceleration range.
This is 70% higher than the average of 8.80 m/s² (based on all of our tests to date). While motion transfer is high, it is not unexpected.
The level of motion transfer is documented in the video below.
Based on all of our tests to date, the average motion transfer for latex and latex hybrid mattresses is 8.84 m/s². As material classes, both latex and pocketed coils create more motion and bounce compared to many other material types.
As a result, if you want a latex hybrid you should be prepared to deal with greater motion.
Max. Acceleration
7.48 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-7.44 m/s²
Accel. Range
14.92 m/s²
Looking at our motion transfer chart the picture isn’t pretty. The EcoCloud has an initial spike with motion remaining high until 1.13 seconds. It begins to drop by 1.13, but it isn’t until 1.70 seconds that motion returns to near zero levels.

Motion duration and motion intensity are significantly worse than the average. As a result, if you do sleep with a partner who is easily disturbed you should carefully consider whether this is a deal breaker for you.
Response Test
Response time on the Winkbed EcoCloud is extremely fast. In our tests, we measured 0.2 seconds to mostly recover and 0.3 seconds to fully recover. This makes the EcoCloud mattress tied with several other mattresses as the fastest-responding mattress we’ve tested to date.
Mostly Recovered
0.2 sec.
Complete Recovery
0.3 sec.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
Latex and pocketed coils create an effective instant response. I wasn’t surprised to see such a rapid response here. The faster response ensures the mattress moves with you as you move during the night, avoiding any type of a stuck feeling.
Additionally, it also improves sex (more on that later). When it comes to response, faster is always better. I have no issues with the response on the EcoCloud.
Bounce Test
The Winkbed EcoCloud has an extremely high level of bounce. In our tests, we measured 14.58” of total bounce height. This is 5.06” more bounce than the average of 9.52”.
Max. Depth
6.30″
Max. Rebound
8.28″
Total Bounce
14.58″
As with many performance areas, the latex hybrid design drives much of the performance we’re seeing. Both latex and pocketed coils create a high level of bounce, together even more so.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
More bounce helps make it easier to move around on the mattress and can improve sex.
In general, I like to see 8-12” of total bounce height. It’s a sort of sweet spot that maximizes benefits while minimizing negatives.
At 14.58” the EcoCloud is well beyond my ideal threshold. As a result, we’re seeing notably higher motion transfer. Despite the high motion generated by the high bounce, the higher bounce also creates best-in-class sex performance.
Edge Support Test
The Winkbed EcoCloud has excellent edge support for both sitting and lying. In our sitting edge support tests, we measured 3.25” of sitting edge sinkage. This is 0.80” less sinkage than the average of 4.05” (based on all of our tests to date).
Max Sinkage
3.25″
Lying Support
Outstanding
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
With respect to sitting sinkage, I like to 4.0” of compression or less. The EcoCloud easily exceeds that mark. Even when sitting directly on the edge of the mattress I felt fully supported.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

Lying edge support was equally as impressive. When lying directly on the edge of the mattress I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

I am confident that the vast majority of sleepers will feel well supported for both sitting and lying at the edge of the mattress.
Sex Test
The Winkbed EcoCloud has outstanding sex performance.
We use the scores from the below factors, weighted by importance, to derive a sex score for each mattress.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 10 | Extremely High |
Edge Support | 20% | 9.7 | Excellent |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
Cooling | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
This mattress has very high levels of bounce. For sleeping, this may not always be a good thing, but for getting down and dirty, bounce is best.

This higher level of bounce is coupled by exceptional edge support. In our sex test, these two factors alone make up 80% of the sex score so it’s no surprise that the EcoCloud put up big numbers in this category.
This mattress is very comfortable and in terms of performance, it’s a near-perfect combination of materials.
Pressure Relief Test
Pressure relief on the Winkbed EcoCloud is excellent. The mattress uses 4.0” of comfort material. In general, I like to see at least 3.0” of comfort material and ideally 4.0” or more.
Comfort Layer
4.0″
Support Layer
8.0″
The 4.0” all-latex comfort layer creates a more generalized body contouring with fast response.
This helps to prevent any type of a stuck feeling while keeping pressure relief more balanced and even across the body.

The EcoCloud has the standard latex comfort feel.
For those who are familiar with this feel, I am confident you’ll love the EcoCloud as much as any high-performance latex and latex hybrid.
For sleepers who have never experienced latex, I would encourage you to try latex in person first. While many sleepers love the feel, it is a more unique feel and not well suited to all preferences. All that said, I don’t have any major issues when it comes to pressure relief.
Off-Gassing Test
Off-gassing on the EcoCloud mattress was strong right out of the box. That being said, the strong smell is not chemical-based. Rather, the odor is the smell of natural textiles and latex.
Initial Smell Strength
Strong
Off-Gassing Period
5 days
It’s not the same type of overpowering and offensive smell that off-gasses from memory and poly foam mattresses. Even so, it does still take 5 days before the smell goes away.
Company
Winkbed mattresses have a long 120-night trial period with free shipping and a lifetime warranty. The warranty is a full replacement program that will send you a new mattress if yours fails to perform at an acceptable level.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|

How firm is the Winkbed EcoCloud?
The Winkbed EcoCloud has a firmness of 5 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm. This falls at the medium level of firmness, a level suitable for a wide range of sleepers.

Support & Sleeping Positions
The Winkbed EcoCloud has excellent support. The mattress uses proven material types and a layered design. At 12” thick it’s sufficiently thick enough to support sleepers up to 300 pounds.
Likewise, the 4” thick comfort layer is able to create enough pressure relief for both light and heavier-weighted bodies. During our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions. I don’t foresee any support issues on the EcoCloud mattress.
The table below shows the wide range of sleeper profiles who would be well-suited for the Winkbed EcoCloud.

The EcoCloud is designed for sleepers who want a mattress with more natural materials.
The feel is distinctly latex and when you add the coils, it results in higher levels of bounce, deeper sinkage, high lotion transfer, and extremely fast response times.
Materials
The EcoCloud has three main material layers. From top to bottom, these layers include:
- 2.0″ latex
- 2.0″ latex
- 8.0″ pocketed coils

The Cover
The EcoCloud mattress has an organic cotton cover for a natural feel and simple design aesthetic.

The Comfort Layer
Under the cotton cover is the first layer of latex. This top layer is a convoluted, perforated Talalay latex.
- Convoluted foams have an egg-crate shape which allows for more airflow and better cooling performance.
- Perforated foams also have better cooling performance due to holes of foam being cut and removed from the material.
With the EcoCloud, the comfort layer utilizes both of these techniques and it really shows in the performance of this mattress.

Below the top latex, is a second layer of Talalay latex which is also perforated for enhanced performance. The second layer acts as a transitional layer between the comfort material and the support coils below.

The Support Layer
The support layer is an 8.0″ high layer of pocketed coils. These coils are individually encased in fabric that allows them to move independently of each other for improved pressure relief and limiting noise.

Pocketed coils also usually have less motion transfer than other coil-based mattresses, but in the case of the EcoCloud, the top layers of bouncy latex kind of negate the benefit of pocketing the springs.
Product Evolution
The Winkbed EcoCloud was launched in 2019, around the same time as the Winkbed GravityLux. Since its launch, there have been no major design changes made to the mattress.
