Our Verdict
The Helix Plus Luxe is a 13.5″ hybrid mattress specifically designed for plus-sized sleepers. It is made of poly foam, pocketed coils, and a support foam base.
It has moderate sinkage and high levels of bounce. If you’re looking for an engaging mattress, the Helix Plus Luxe is a great option.
This mattress is available in a single firmness—7 out of 10 on the firmness scale and with a slightly firm feel.
In our performance tests, the Helix Plus Luxe had an overall score of 9.24, ranking it in the top 12% of all mattresses tested to date. Specifically looking at plus-sized mattresses, the Plus Elite is the #6 top-scoring plus-sized hybrid tested to date. For reference, the Helix Plus Elite is our #1 hybrid for heavy sleepers.
The price is also pretty reasonable—for a queen-sized mattress, the Plus Luxe is $1,999. This is 20% more than the average plus-sized hybrid, but still a good value given the high performance.

How is Helix Plus Luxe Different?
The Helix Plus Luxe has significantly better performance than the average mattress and a price tag that is also a bit higher than average—20% more than the average plus-sized mattress.
Advantages
Advantages of the Helix Plus Luxe include better cooling performance, lower motion transfer levels, and better edge support as well.
The high levels of bounce give this mattress a great sex score and the thick 13.5″ profile gives the mattress good pressure relief. It off-gasses faster than average and is manufactured by a well-trusted brand. Overall, there’s not much to dislike about this mattress.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has moderate sinkage and high levels of bounce. Material response time is also about average, making it a bit of a neutral factor.
Disadvantages
The thicker profile may make it harder for some sleepers to get in and out of bed, especially those who pair the mattress with a traditional high-profile foundation.
This mattress also only has a 100-night trial, which is shorter than average, but still gives you over 3 months to decide if you like the mattress.

Cooling Test
The Helix Plus Luxe has excellent cooling performance. During our tests, I felt no significant level of heat retention around my body. The mattress remained comfortably cool during our tests.
Baseline Temp.
70.4° F
Max Temp.
89.0° F
Ending Temp.
77.9° F
Max Temp.

Ending Temp

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
The combination of hybrid design bringing additional airflow, high quality foams resisting heat retention, and Tencel cover work well together to create a cooler mattress.
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 89.0°, which is 0.6° cooler than the average of 89.6°.
After getting off the mattress the temperature declined by 7.2 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 2.5° cooler than the average 0 to 1 minute decline.
When we consider the objective data, our subjective experience, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident most sleepers will find the mattress sufficiently cool.
That said, if you are an especially hot sleeper you can opt for Helix’s optional cooling cover, which can be added to the mattress for $199. We’ve tested this cooling cover on other mattresses and found it increases cooling performance by a full 1 point on our scale.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

Sinkage Test
The Helix Plus Luxe has a moderate level of sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.09”. This is 0.03” less sinkage than the average of 2.12”.
Sinkage Depth
2.09″
Sinkage Feel
Moderate
The mattress creates a feeling that sits between a floating feel and a balanced level of body contouring hug. However, it likely feels more like that to me as I am a lighter-weight sleeper. Heavier-weighted bodies will likely feel a more balanced level of body contouring hug.
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The Helix Plus (standard version) has a significantly higher firmness rating and also has a significant floating feel. The quilted Tencel cover on the Helix Plus Luxe creates a more balanced feel that many body types can feel comfortable on.
Motion Transfer Test
The Helix Plus Luxe has an extremely low level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured an acceleration range of 3.90 m/s². This is 55% less motion transfer than the average of 8.71 m/s².
Max. Acceleration
2.06 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-1.84 m/s²
Accel. Range
3.90 m/s²
With 5.0” of comfort foam the mattress has ample material that is able to absorb, disperse, and reduce motion.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion from 0 to 0.14 seconds. Motion remains spiky, but well within the “extremely low” motion range.
My only slight concern is the level of motion duration. It took 1.30 seconds before we returned to near-zero levels of energy. This is considerably longer than the average.

Even so, the motion levels are well below average even at their highest points. I expect most sleepers will find the level of motion to be excellent.
Response Test
The Helix Plus Luxe has a very fast material responsiveness. In our mostly recovered test, we measured 0.3 seconds for the mattress to mostly recover. This is 0.11 seconds slower than the average of 0.41 seconds.
Mostly Recovered
0.3 sec.
Complete Recovery
0.9 sec.
In our fully recovered test, we measured 0.9 seconds for the mattress to fully recover back to shape. This is 0.01 seconds slower than the average of 0.89 seconds.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
While these responsiveness speeds are absolutely not instant, they aren’t slow by any measure. The fast material recovery ensures sleepers won’t feel stuck on the mattress. Most sleepers will find the responsiveness to be perfectly acceptable.
Bounce Test
The Helix Plus Luxe has a high level of bounce. During our tests, we measured 11.26” of total bounce height. This is 1.59” more bounce than the average of 9.67”.
Max. Depth
4.87″
Max. Rebound
6.39″
Total Bounce
11.26″
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
A higher level of bounce helps facilitate ease of movement and positively impacts sex performance. However, a higher bounce also typically increases motion transfer, but that’s not what we measured.
In my view, these motion and bounce performance levels speak to the impressive material quality and thicker-than-average comfort layer the Plus Luxe is equipped with. Overall, I expect most sleepers will find bounce to be perfectly fine.
Edge Support Test
The Helix Plus Luxe has excellent sitting edge support and good lying edge support. During our tests, we measured 3.25” of sitting edge compression. This is 0.77” less sitting sinkage than the average of 4.02”.
Ideally, I want to see 4.0” or less of sitting sinkage and the Plus Luxe easily exceeded that mark. Even while sitting directly on the edge of the mattress it has ample support.
Max Sinkage
3.25″
Lying Support
Good
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

Lying edge support is good, but also not quite incredible. I felt well supported on my side. However, on my back and stomach, I felt that the support wasn’t as good.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

The softer quilted cover creates something of an “angled” sleeping position when lying directly on the edge of the mattress on my stomach and back. This makes edge support less-than-great.
The Plus Luxe uses reinforced coils along the entire perimeter of the mattress, including the head / foot (which notably the Helix Plus doesn’t do). These coils have a positive impact on edge support for both sitting and lying.
Sex Test
The Helix Plus Luxe has excellent sex performance. The mattress earned perfect 10/10 scores for bounce and noise. Edge support for amorous activities wasn’t quite perfect, but it wasn’t far off at a 9.7.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 9.5 | Very High |
Edge Support | 20% | 9.7 | Excellent |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
Cooling | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
The Plus Luxe lost a few points with pressure relief and cooling, but nothing drastic. The mattress can deliver ample bounce with plenty of support and comfort that help facilitate amorous activities.

All together, we have an incredibly well-rounded dance without pants performance and an excellent sex score.
Pressure Relief Test
The Helix Plus Luxe has excellent pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant level of pressure point build-up. Even as a lighter-weight body, the mattress creates ample comfort.
Comfort Layer
5.0″
Support Layer
8.5″
The Plus Luxe is equipped with a 5.0” comfort layer. This is 0.9” thicker than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.1”, based on all of our tests to date.

A thicker comfort layer puts more material between sleepers and the harder support foams, which greatly improves pressure relief.
The thicker comfort layer is beneficial to all body types, but especially for heavier-weighted bodies. On more typical mattresses you’ll see a comfort layer of between 3-4”.
As the Helix Plus Luxe is tuned to the needs of heavier-weighted sleepers it’s equipped with 5” of comfort foam, which ensures that heavier bodies are also getting what they need to feel comfortable.

Off-Gassing Test
Off-gassing on the Helix Plus Luxe is strong out of the box and it took 4 days for the odor to dissipate.
Initial Smell Strength

Off-Gassing Period
4 days
This is 2 days shorter than the average 6 day off-gassing period, based on all of our tests to date.

Company
Helix has been around since 2015 and their company terms and policies feel pretty fair and favorable to consumers. They include a 100-night trial period and a 10-year warranty.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|
Trial Period | 15% | 8.0 | 100 nights |
Warranty | 10% | 8.0 | 10 years |
Shipping | 5% | 10 | $0 |
Returns | 20% | 10 | $0 |
Trust | 50% | 10 | Outstanding |
Country of Origin | 0% | USA |

Comparing all trials and warranties tested to date (240+ mattresses tested to date), Helix’s trial is 42% shorter than average and the warranty is 23% shorter than average. This excludes the 24% of mattresses that offer lifetime warranties.
How firm is Helix Plus Luxe?
The Helix Plus Luxe has an overall firmness of 7 out of 10, giving the mattress a slightly firm feel.

This is slightly firmer than average but does a great job of providing comfort and spinal alignment for heavier sleepers who need extra support.
Support & Sleeping Positions
The Helix Plus Luxe has excellent support. During our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress includes 8.5” of support materials, including a zoned 8.0” pocketed coil unit and 0.5” of support foam on the base.

This is a good bit thicker than the average 7.9” support layer thickness, based on all of our tests to date.
Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.
Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleepers | Side Sleepers | Back Sleepers |
---|---|---|---|
Under 150 lbs. | Maybe | No | Maybe |
150-250 lbs. | Yes | Maybe | Yes |
250-300 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
The zoned pocketed coil unit creates more support where your body needs it, namely in the center of the mattress. This helps resist sagging and better keeps the spine in a neutral alignment.
Lastly, the mattress has a slightly firm feel (7 out of 10 on the firmness scale), making it an ideal choice for heavier-weighted bodies. Overall, I’m pleased with the support dynamic and I expect most sleepers will find it more than sufficient.

These two layers work together to provide comfort and transitional support as sleepers ease into the support layer below.
