Our Verdict
The Helix Plus Luxe mattress is a 13.5″ plus-sized mattress made of poly foam, gel memory foam, and a pocketed coil support layer. It has a plush pillow top with a gel memory foam quilted into the cover. The mattress we tested had a Tencel cover, but the Plus Luxe is also available with a GlacioTex cooling cover.
The Helix Plus Luxe is available in a single firmness level — slightly firm.
This mattress has deep sinkage and moderate levels of bounce. For heavier sleepers who like to sleep on their side, this can provide the ideal balance of support and pressure relief.
In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 9.17, ranking the mattress in the top 13% of all mattresses tested to date.
The Helix Plus Luxe is $1,899 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 9% more than the average. This equates to only $162 more than the average plus-sized mattress, yet getting a performance that is significantly above average. If you’re in the market for a high-performing plus-sized option, the Helix Plus Luxe is a great option to consider.

How is Helix Plus Luxe Different?
The Helix Plus Luxe is a 13.5″ plus-sized mattress with an overall performance level that is higher than average and a price that is also slightly higher, but the margin is relatively slim—a difference of $163 more than the average queen-sized plus-sized mattress.
Advantages
Specific advantages of the Helix Plus Luxe include better cooling performance, faster material responsiveness, and better edge support as well. Sitting at the edge of the mattress generates a sitting sinkage of only 2.25″, where the average level is 4.0″. Lying support is outstanding as well.
The sex score is also well above average (8.8), combined with lower levels of motion transfer, making the Helix Plus Luxe an attractive option for heavier couples.
The Plus Luxe is a 13.5″ thick mattress with a 4.75″ comfort layer. For reference, the average comfort layer is 4.1″ thick, so the Plus Luxe provides an additional 0.7″ of material.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has deep sinkage and moderate levels of bounce. Some heavier sleepers will not enjoy the deeper sinkage (especially stomach or back sleepers), but side sleepers are more likely to prefer this feel.

Disadvantages
The price of the Plus Luxe is 9% more than the average plus-sized mattress and it has a shorter trial as well. After comparing over 320+ mattresses tested to date, we measured the average trial period to be 174 nights, over 2 months longer than the 100-night trial of the Helis Plus Luxe.
Cooling Test
The Helix Plus Luxe has excellent cooling. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of heat retention around my body.
Baseline Temp.
78.7° F
Max. Temp.
90.2° F
Ending Temp.
80.9° F
The Plus Luxe, like all Helix Luxe mattresses, uses a proven material design. The hybrid configuration brings plenty of airflow into the mattress.
In addition, we have high performance foams at every level that do a good job at resisting heat retention and breathing well.
Notably, the version we tested did not have the cooling cover (aka GlacioTex) or cooling ribbons (aka CoolForce). If you were to add the optional cooling cover it will notably improve cooling performance.
Max. Temp.

Ending Temp.

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
We’ve tested that Glaciotex cover on other Helix Luxe mattresses and felt a notable difference with a cool-to-the-touch feel on the cover.
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 90.2° F. This is 0.4° warmer than the average of 89.8° F, based on all of our tests to date.
After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 5.3° from minutes 0 to 1, which is 0.7° cooler than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.6°.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is excellent.
Sinkage Test
The Helix Plus Luxe has deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.35″. This is 0.18″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.17″, based on all of our tests to date.
Sinkage Depth
2.35″
Sinkage Feel
Deep
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The mattress creates a more of a floating feel, especially on my stomach and back. The floating feel means you like more “on” the mattress as opposed to sinking down “in” the mattress.
However, it is more balanced while lying on my side. Notably, I did experience a little more sinkage for the heavier parts of my body, which I think bodes well for heavier-weighted sleepers in general.
As the mattress should create a more balanced and even feel for the heavier people that it’s designed and tuned for.
Lastly, the Plus Luxe primarily uses poly foam for comfort, with only a 0.75” memory foam layer. This limited use of memory foam means the mattress doesn’t create a dramatic body contouring hug.
Motion Transfer Test
The Helix Plus Luxe has a very low level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 6.04 m/s². This is 30% less motion transfer than the average of 8.68 m/s². I was quite surprised at the low level of motion transfer.
Max. Acceleration
2.36 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-3.68 m/s²
Accel. Range
6.04 m/s²
Typically, mattresses designed for heavier people have higher motion, as the materials, firmness, and design elements that are required to support heavier bodies also typically create more bounce and motion.
Nevertheless, that wasn’t what we measured on the Plus Luxe. The thicker-than-average 4.75” comfort layer did a fantastic job at reducing and eliminating motion, even while bounce maintained a moderate level.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.21 seconds. Motion declines thereafter, but we do still see a notably secondary motion spike from 0.50 to 0.65 seconds.

Again, motion declines thereafter, but it’s not until 1.51 seconds that we return to near-zero levels of energy. Certainly, I’m very pleased with the low motion transfer peaks. These are better than average.
Even so, the secondary energy spike and considerably longer than average motion duration are both less than ideal. This type of motion transfer duration and secondary motion spike is more typical of what I expect from a plus-sized mattress.
All of that said, when we consider the complete picture of motion transfer data, I’m pleased with what I see. The motion intensity is well below average, and in my view, that is the most critical data point. I expect most sleepers will find this level of motion transfer is a non-issue.
Response Test
The Helix Plus Luxe is a mixed bag for material responsiveness, with a very fast mostly recovered response time and a moderate fully recovered response time.
Mostly Recovered
0.3 sec.
Fully Recovered
1.0 sec.
In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.3 seconds, which is 0.12 seconds faster than the average of 0.42 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.
In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 1.0 seconds, which is 0.01 seconds slower than the average of 0.99 seconds.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
While these responsiveness speeds aren’t quite instant, they aren’t slow by any stretch either. This mattress is primarily built from poly foam and coils, both of which have a fast response time.
There is 0.75” of memory foam within the quilted cover. That memory foam layer slows down the responsiveness slightly, but the total response picture is still quite fast. As a result, ease of movement is also good.
Bounce Test
The Helix Plus Luxe has a moderate level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 9.24″. This is 0.06″ more bounce than the average of 9.18″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Depth
4.75″
Max. Rebound
4.49″
Total Bounce
9.24″
A higher-than-average level of bounce is typical for a plus-sized mattress. Plus-sized mattresses are generally a little firmer, more supportive, and use more robust comfort layers.
This combination of factors is able to create higher levels of bounce. Bounce at this range is more than enough to facilitate ease of movement and better sex performance.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max. Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
Overall, I’m pleased with what we measured and don’t expect bounce will be an issue for most sleepers.
Edge Support Test
The Helix Plus Luxe has outstanding sitting edge support and outstanding lying edge support.
Max. Sinkage
2.25″
Lying Support
Outstanding
In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 2.25″. This is 1.75″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 4.00″, based on all of our tests to date. Lying support was equally as impressive.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was outstanding in all sleeping positions. The Plus Luxe benefits from design and material choices that are tuned to create better support for heavier people.
The mattress is equipped with two rows of reinforced edge support coils. In addition, the coil unit is more robust, using thicker coils than what other Helix Luxe mattresses are equipped with.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

When you combine these material choices alongside the thicker-than-average 13.5” total profile and a comfort layer with 3.0” of 2.5 PCF poly foam we have all the right conditions to deliver outstanding edge support.
Sex Test
The Helix Plus Luxe has good sex performance. On the positive side, noise is low, pressure relief is outstanding, and cooling is excellent. Edge support is also outstanding, with just 2.25” of sitting edge sinkage.

A more robust edge extends the usable surface area of the mattress. Moving on, we have bounce, which earned a good score, though it’s certainly not amazing. At 9.24” of bounce, the bounce level is slightly better than average. When it comes to sex, more bounce is almost always better than less.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 8.3 | High |
Edge Support | 20% | 10 | Outstanding |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
Cooling | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
Needless to say, the Plus Luxe amorous activity performance would have benefited from more bounce. Even so, bounce at this level should be good enough for most couples.
Pressure Relief Test
The Helix Plus Luxe has an excellent level of pressure relief. During our tests, I did not feel any significant pressure points anywhere on my body.
Comfort Layer
4.75″
Support Layer
8.75″
The mattress is equipped with 4.75″ of comfort material, which is 0.61″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.14″, based on all of our tests to date. The comfort layer is a mix of memory foam and poly foam.
That said, the poly foam is the primary comfort material, with 3.0” of poly foam with a density of 2.5 PCF. PCF stands for pounds per cubic feet.
Higher density foams better resist body impressions, sagging, and are typically more durable. In our pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 0.99. This is a little higher than we like to see ideally, but nothing I’m overly alarmed by.

Slightly higher pressure maps for heavier weighted bodies are not unexpected, as plus-sized mattresses are designed to create more robust support and pushback, which can lead to higher pressure for lighter weighted sleepers.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Side Sleepers | 0.13 | 0.52 |
Pressure Map – Back Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Back Sleepers | 0.09 | 0.99 |
Pressure Map – Stomach Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Stomach Sleepers | 0.08 | 0.77 |
When I consider the material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be outstanding.
Off-Gassing Test
The Helix Plus Luxe had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 8 days. This is 1.5 days longer than the average smell duration of 6.5 days.

Company
Helix has an excellent company score with consumer-friendly terms and conditions. The mattress includes a 100-night trial period and a lifetime warranty. Shipping and returns are both free as well.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|
Trial Period | 15% | 8.0 | 100 nights |
Warranty | 10% | 10 | Lifetime |
Shipping | 5% | 10 | $0 |
Returns | 20% | 10 | $0 |
Trust | 50% | 10 | Outstanding |
Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
Comparing 98+ brands tested to date, the average trial period is 176 nights, 76 nights more than Helix offers. Helix also offers a lifetime warranty, an advantage only offered by 39% of all mattresses we test.

Helix has been around since 2015, and based on my experiences with them and feedback from my readers over the years, they are a brand that I have a high degree of trust with.
All Helix mattresses are made in the US.
How firm is Helix Plus Luxe?
The Helix Plus Luxe is available in a single firmness, 7 out of 10, which gives the mattress a slightly firm feel.

This firmness has a bit more pushback than we typically see, as medium-firm mattresses are the most common firmness among all mattresses we test.
A mattress with a slightly firm feel (like the Plus Luxe) can be a great option for heavier sleepers as well as back or stomach sleepers.
Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Helix Plus Luxe is excellent. During our tests, I felt well supported in all sleeping positions. The mattress is equipped with an 8.75″ support layer.
This is 0.83″ thicker than the average support layer thickness of 7.92″, based on all of our tests to date.

For a mattress to create ideal support, it needs to provide full support, keep the spine in alignment, and alleviate pressure points. The Helix Plus Luxe archives all of these requirements.
The thicker-than-average 4.75” comfort layer includes a mix of memory foam and poly foam and is able to create excellent pressure relief and comfort. The pocketed coil unit is incredibly robust and is zoned, meaning there is more support in the middle of the mattress where most sleepers carry most of their weight.
In addition, the medium-firm to slightly firm feel makes it a good choice for many types of sleepers, including lighter-weighted sleepers that need / want more support and/or those who sleep with a heavier-weighted partner who needs the additional support.

Lastly, the total profile height is 13.5”, which is notably thicker than the average height of 12.0”. This combination of design and material choices creates more than sufficient support for even the heaviest-weighted sleepers.
Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.
Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleeper | Side Sleeper | Back Sleeper |
---|---|---|---|
Under 150 lbs. | Yes | No | Yes |
150-250 lbs. | Yes | Maybe | Yes |
250-300 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident that most sleepers will find support on the Helix Plus Luxe to be excellent.

Helix divides its mattress collection into three tiers—Core (Standard), Luxe, and Elite. As you’d expect, higher tiers also have a higher price tag.
The Plus is the most budget-friendly, the Plus Luxe (this review) is a balance of great performance and still a reasonable price, and the Plus Elite is the most expensive and highest-tier model.

The Luxe is designed to strike a balance between performance and price, making it the most popular model that Helix offers.
Materials
The Helix Plus Luxe is 13.5″ thick and contains a plush, quilted cover, poly foam comfort layer, pocketed coil support layer, and a thin high-density foam base. From top to bottom, here is a full list of the materials used in this mattress:
- 1.75” quilted cover
- 1.00” poly foam
- 2.00” poly foam
- 8.00” pocketed coils
- 0.75” support foam

The table below shows a more detailed look at the exact specifications of the materials used in the Midnight Luxe, according to the manufacturer.

The Cover
The Helix Plus Luxe comes with a standard cover made of Tencel with a soft and breathable feel. There are four side handles for rotating or transporting the mattress, as needed.
The mattress we tested used the standard Tencel cover, but the Plus Luxe also has the option to upgrade to a more advanced cooling cover. The cooling cover uses GlacioTex material and contains cooling fibers that help regulate body temperature when you’re lying on the mattress. Regardless of mattress size, upgrading to the cooling cover costs $199.

Although the mattress we tested did not have them, the Helix Luxe series also has the option to include graphite cooling ribbons (aka: CoolForce), designed to pull heat away from the body. These ribbons are only available if you also upgrade to the GlacioTex cooling cover, which we discussed above.
The addition of the cooling cover and cooling ribbons would add an additional $299 to the total mattress cost. For reference, the Helix Plus Luxe mattress we tested did not have the GlacioTex cooling cover or graphite cooling ribbons and earned a cooling score of 9/10.
Other Helix Luxe mattresses (ie: Helix Midnight Luxe or Helix Dusk Luxe) did have the GlacioTex cooling cover and earned a cooling score of 10/10.
We would expect the Plus Luxe to earn a 10/10 cooling if it also had the GlacioTex cooling cover.
The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer is 4.75″ thick and made of two poly foam layers. The top is a 1.0″ poly foam (teal), and the second layer is a 2.0″ poly foam (off-white). Both of these foams have the same 2.5 PCF and a similar feel.
Together, they provide a 3.0″ comfort layer, not including the 1.0″ pillow top and 0.75″ gel memory foam in the pillow top layer.

Helix also offers an optional support layer that you can add, the ErgoAlign support layer. This layer is designed to support spinal alignment, especially along the midsection.

This layer sits directly below the cover and is designed as a supportive foam that helps to reinforce support along the mid-section, thereby allowing less sinkage in the middle of the mattress.
I will say, this layer is quite firm and will not be right for all sleepers. We’ve already heard from some of our readers / viewers who purchased this optional foam upgrade that it made their mattress way too firm, creating an uncomfortable support dynamic.
However, if you really struggle with discomfort caused by too much sinkage in the middle of your mattress then adding this layer can help.
This optional layer costs an additional $199 and is available in the Core and Luxe models. On the mattresses within the Elite collection, this layer comes standard.
The Support Layer
The support layer is 8.75″ thick and made primarily of an 8.0″ pocketed coil base with coils that are fully reinforced for maximum support for heavier bodies.

Beneath the coils is a 0.75″ support foam layer at the base of the mattress for stability and structure.
Product Evolution
Helix, as a brand, launched in 2015 with a handful of mattresses. The Helix Plus Luxe launched in 2024.
Our first test of the Helix Plus Luxe was in 2024 and then retested in 2025 after Helix made a major round of design and material changes (which went live April 2025). The table below shows how the two models compare.
2024 Version

2025 Version

Specs | 2024 Version | 2025 Version |
---|---|---|
Overall Score | 9.24 | 9.17 |
Thickness | 13.5″ | 13.5″ |
Firmness | Medium-Firm (6) | Slightly Firm (7) |
Cover | Thin Cover or Cooling Cover | Thin Cover or Cooling Cover |

Support Layer | 8.0” Pocketed Coils 0.5″ Support Foam | 8.0″ Pocketed Coils 0.75″ Support Foam |
The 2025 changes resulted in a slight score decrease, but the Helix Plus Luxe still continues to be a strong-performing option, scoring in the top 23% of all mattresses tested to date.
Both versions of this mattress have a robust comfort layer with quality materials, strong support materials, and a plush quilted cover.
