The Winkbed Original Hybrid scored top mattress overall, earning the highest marks for best cooling, fastest response time, most bounce, best edge support, best for sex, best pressure relief, and the least off-gassing.

The Winkbed Plus (hybrid) tied with the Winkbed Original for best cooling and best pressure relief. The Plus also has the most sinkage among all 5 mattresses compared here.

The Nectar Original earned honors for the least amount of sinkage and the least bounce. Not quite a positive aspect, but it also had the slowest response time of all mattresses in this comparison. This is due to its more traditional memory foam feel.

The Nectar Premier Copper had the best score for the lowest motion transfer levels.

The sinkage levels of Winkbed vs. Nectar show moderate to deep sinkage, depending on which mattress you’re looking at.

The Nectar Premier and Nectar Premier Copper are about equal to the average.

Concerning motion transfer, Nectar had a perfect score of 10 across the board. The Winkbed Original was not far behind, but the Winkbed Plus struggled in this area.

The average amount of motion transfer is 8.68 m/s², based on all of our mattress tests to date.

All of the Nectar mattresses have less motion transfer than average. The Winkbed Original is just below the average, but the Winkbed Plus is notably higher than average.

If you’re sensitive to motion transfer on a mattress, you may want to consider this before opting for the Winkbed Plus.

The level of motion transfer is documented in the video below. The graphs that follow each video show a quantifiable version of motion transfer based on accelerometer data.

Winkbed Original Motion Transfer

The Winkbed Original had a peak motion of around 2.5 m/s² and that energy continued for slightly beyond 1 full second. This performance was about average, compared to all mattresses we’ve tested.

Winkbed Plus Motion Transfer

On the Winkbed Plus, motion transfer peaked at around ±4.5 m/s² and continued for about 1 full second. This is notably higher than the average among all mattresses that we’ve tested to date.

Nectar Original Motion Transfer

The Nectar Original has very controlled motion transfer, with energy maxing out at around +2 m/s² at its peak. This energy was absorbed by 0.5 seconds.

Nectar Premier Motion Transfer

The Nectar Premier had even less motion than the Nectar Original, maxing out at less than ±1.5 m/s². On this mattress, all motion was absorbed by 0.4 seconds, which is significantly faster than the average.

Nectar Premier Copper Motion Transfer

The Nectar Premier Copper had peak motion at less than ±1 m/s². The energy continued across the surface of the mattress for about 0.8 seconds, which is longer than the other Nectars but still better than the average.

Looking at response times, all of these mattresses have a fast response with the one exception being the Nectar Original, which was quite slow.

The average response time across all mattresses that we’ve tested to date is 0.4 seconds to be mostly recovered and 0.9 seconds to be fully recovered.

The Winkbed Original and Winkbed Plus were the fastest, completely recovered by 0.3 – 0.4 seconds. The Nectar Premier Copper was slightly behind these two with a complete recovery by 0.5 seconds.

On the Nectar Premier, complete recovery took 0.8 seconds, but that is still faster than the average.

The only mattress in this comparison with a slower response time than average is the Nectar Original. This mattress took 3.0 seconds to mostly recover and a full 5.0 seconds for complete recovery.

The level of bounce between these mattresses varies from very low to moderate. In most cases, foam-based mattresses will have less bounce than hybrid (foam + coil) mattresses. But as we see below, that’s not always the case (see Nectar Premier all-foam vs. Winkbed Plus hybrid).

The average level of bounce across all mattresses tested to date is 9.35″. With this number in mind, all of the mattresses in this comparison have less bounce than average, excluding the Winkbed Original, which is slightly beyond the average.

The Nectar Original had the least amount of bounce closely followed by the Nectar Premier Copper.

The Winkbed Plus had about 30% less bounce than average at 6.75″ and the Nectar Premier was next at 7.10″. Both of these mattresses would be considered to be a low level of bounce.

With the most bounce in this comparison, we have the Winkbed Original hybrid. This mattress had a moderate level of bounce with 9.91″. As mentioned above, this is slightly more bounce than average.

Concerning edge support, Winkbed took the win here against Nectar.

The average level of sinkage (when sitting right at the edge of the mattress) is 4.05″.

Both the Winkbed Original and Winkbed Plus have exceptional sitting and lying edge support, with sinkage levels at nearly half the level of the average.

All three of the Nectar mattresses in this comparison had worse edge support than average. The Nectar Premier had the deepest level of edge sinkage at 7.25″, but still maintained very good lying edge support. The Nectar Original had 1.0″ less sinkage sitting at the edge, but significantly worse edge lying support.

The Winkbed Original (9.1) ranks best for sex, with the Winkbed Plus (7.8) follows as runner-up.

Nectar just doesn’t have the level of bounce that Winkbed has, likely due to its lack of coils. The Nectar Premier (9.1) was the best among all foam-based Nectar mattresses here. The Nectar Original and Nectar Premier Copper struggled more, noting lower bounce and poorer edge support.

Pressure relief on Winkbed and Nectar mattresses is good, albeit slightly better on Winkbed. Both of these brands offer thick comfort layers and sufficiently thick support layers.

For the absolute best performance in this category, go with the Winkbed Original or Winkbed Plus, which both scored a 10 out of 10. The Nectar Original, Nectar Premier, and Nectar Premier Copper, all have a pressure relief score of 9 out of 10.

Moving right along, let’s talk about off-gassing. Most of these mattresses had solid performance here with off-gassing. Although the smell right out of the box may be strong, off-gassing happens within a couple of days.

If you’re sensitive to strong smells, the Winkbed Original had zero smell out of the box.

The Winkbed Plus had a moderate smell, but that smell dissipated after only 1 day.

The Nectar lineup had a moderate to strong smell which took 3-4 days to fully dissipate.

Winkbed mattresses only have a 120-night trial period, but they do have a lifetime warranty, like Nectar

The Nectar Premier Copper is the softest Nectar in this comparison—5 out of 10 on the firmness scale.

The Nectar Premier mattress is just slightly firmer at 5.5 out of 10. This would still be considered a medium feel and suitable for a wide range of sleeper body weights and preferences.

The Winkbed Plus is available in a 7 out of 10 on the firmness scale, the same firmness as the Winkbed Original Firm.

I would recommend the Winkbed Original Hybrid if you’re looking for:

• Best overall. If you’re looking for a well-rounded mattress that has a fantastic score in every category we test for, the Winkbed is it. I would recommend the Winkbed Plus for the following:

• Heavier sleepers. Sleepers over 250 lbs. can greatly benefit from the thicker profile of the Winkbed Plus. In addition, the firmer feel can help provide better support for heavier sleepers.
• Firm feel. Regardless of your body weight, if you simply want a firm feel, the Winkbed Plus is a good choice. Heavier bodies and some back / stomach sleepers may enjoy the firm feel of the Winkbed Plus.

Should You Buy the Nectar Original?

I would recommend the Nectar Original for the following:

• Low bounce. Being a memory foam mattress, the Nectar Original has the lowest level of bounce among all mattresses in this comparison.
• Don’t mind a slow response. This mattress also has a slow response time, one of the slowest we’ve tested to date among all NapLabtested mattresses. The slow response does lend itself to very low levels of motion transfer, which can be a benefit to sensitive sleepers.

Should You Buy the Nectar Premier?

I would recommend the Netcar Premier for the following:

• 5.5 out of 10 firmness. The Nectar Premier has is slightly softer than other medium firmness mattresses which tend to come in at 6 out of 10. If you’re looking for something just a tad softer, the Premier is a solid pick.
• Mid-range price point. The Nectar Premier mattress is more expensive than the Nectar Original, but less expensive than the Premier Copper. For a balance of performance (and don’t mind the worse edge support) the Nectar Premier could be a good option.

The Final Word

Both Winkbed mattresses and Nectar mattresses are well-known in the industry and offer quality mattresses. Winkbeds is most well-known for their hybrids models, but offers others as well (memory foam or latex hybrid).

On the opposite side, Nectar is most well-known for their memory foam mattresses, although they also offer hybrids with foam + coils.

For higher bounce, faster response, and excellent cooling go with Winkbeds. For lower levels of motion transfer, good pressure relief, and lower bounce opt for Nectar.
