Best For
- Low levels of motion transfer
- Lower price point ($1,899) for a Tempurpedic than the average (average Tempurpedic mattress is $2,669)
- Good pressure relief with 3″ comfort layer
Considerations
- Low bounce and worse edge support can be problematic for couples (low sex score)
- Horrible off-gassing odor that lasted for over 40 days
- Very slow material response time
Our Verdict
The Tempurpedic Supreme mattress is an 11.25″ memory foam mattress sold exclusively at Costco. It is made of poly foam, memory foam, and a convoluted support foam.
This mattress has moderate sinkage and very low levels of bounce.
It is available in two firmness levels—medium and firm, although we found the “medium” version to feel more like a medium-firm (6 out of 10).
In our performance tests, this mattress scored an overall performance score of 7.45, placing this mattress in the bottom 6% of all mattresses tested to date. Looking exclusively at memory foam mattresses, the Tempurpedic Supreme ranks in the bottom 18% of all memory foam mattresses tested.
The Supreme struggled immensely with a slow material response, poor edge support, poor sex performance, and among the worst off-gassing we’ve tested to date.
For a Tempurpedic mattress, the Supreme is one of their lower-priced options, priced at $1,899 for a queen. The average queen mattress is $2,669 on the Tempurpedic website, 2.3X more than the average memory foam mattress from other brands.
If you really want a Tempurpedic mattress, but don’t want to drop over $2K to make it happen, the Supreme can be a potential option, but for many sleepers, you may be better off opting for a memory foam from a different brand.

How is Tempurpedic Supreme Different?
The Tempurpedic Supreme is a memory foam mattress with below-average overall performance and an above-average price tag. This is not the dynamic we like to see on any mattress and is usually an indication of a lower-value deal.
Advantages
Advantages of the Tempurpedic Supreme include low levels of motion transfer and better-than-average pressure relief.
Neutral Factors
Neutral factors include moderate levels of sinkage and very low levels of bounce. The low bounce is pretty typical of traditional memory foam and is a contributing factor to the low levels of motion transfer.
Disadvantages
The Tempurpedic Supreme has a price tag that is higher than average, 64% more than the average memory foam mattress. Other disadvantages include worse cooling performance, a painfully slow material response time, and struggling edge support.
The mattress also has a low sex score, a combination of poor edge support and low levels of bounce.
Off-gassing took over 40 days (we ended the test at day 40 because the off-gassing score could not get any lower). If you are sensitive to strong odors, this could be a big factor for you.

Cooling Test
The Tempurpedic Supreme has a good level of cooling performance. During our tests, I only felt a slight level of heat retention around my body.
Baseline Temp.
74.0° F
Max Temp.
88.7° F
Ending Temp.
79.9° F
Max Temp.

Ending Temp

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
Despite the all-foam construction, the mattress avoided heat retention and seemed to breathe well. Tempupedic says they use a “high-density cooling yarn for a superior cool-to-the-touch feel”. Based on my experience, there is nothing especially cool about the cover.
It’s a perfectly fine cover, but in my view, it does not have a cool feel. This level of cooling performance is on par with what we expect from higher-performance memory foam.
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level of temperature of 88.7° F, which is 1.0° cooler than the average of 89.7°, based on all of our tests to date.
Notably, the mattress creates a significant level of body contouring hug. For some sleepers, this can cause the mattress to sleep warmer, as there is simply more material coming into contact with your body.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

Overall, I’m pleased with the level of cooling performance. If you describe yourself as a “hot” or “warm” sleeper you’ll probably be better off with a hybrid mattress, as the extra airflow will keep you cooler.
For everyone else, the mattress is cool enough, while also providing the feel, contour, and pressure relief of memory foam.
Sinkage Test
The Tempurpedic Supreme has a moderate level of sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.0”. This is 0.13” less sinkage than the average of 2.13”.
Sinkage Depth
2.00″
Sinkage Feel
Moderate
The Tempurpedic Supreme is among the most traditional memory foam feel mattresses we’ve tested to date. It creates a dramatic, exacting body contouring hug.
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

Notably, the body contouring hug activates most significantly for heavier parts of the body.
Once it’s created the body contouring hug can cause it to be difficult to change positions, in part due to the sinkage depth and in part due to the incredibly slow material responsiveness.
All that to say, to be comfortable with the sinkage dynamic you will absolutely need to love the feel of classic memory foam.
Motion Transfer Test
The Tempurpedic Supreme has an extremely low level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 4.46 m/s². This is 49% less motion transfer than the average of 8.71 m/s².
Max. Acceleration
1.84 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-2.62 m/s²
Accel. Range
4.46 m/s²
Among the greatest advantages of memory foam is the incredibly low level of motion transfer. This particular type of memory foam is denser and simply does not easily disperse energy.
When objects or people create motion on the mattress it is minimal, largely localized to the immediate area of the impact, and does not significantly transfer to the other side of the mattress.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.36 seconds. By 0.50 seconds we’ve returned to near-zero levels of energy.

For sleepers who require the absolute lowest levels of motion transfer the Tempurpedic Supreme is a fantastic choice. It doesn’t get much better than this.
Response Test
The Tempurpedic Supreme has a very slow material responsiveness. During our mostly recovered test, we measured 3.72 seconds to recover back to shape. This is 3.31 seconds slower than the average of 0.41 seconds.
Mostly Recovered
3.7 sec.
Complete Recovery
7.8 sec.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
During our fully recovered test, we measured 7.76 seconds to recover back to shape. This is 6.87 seconds slower than the average of 0.89 seconds.
There can be no sugar-coating material response for the Supreme. It is incredibly slow.
The slow material responsiveness will make it more difficult to move around on the mattress, inhibit sex performance, and cause many sleepers to feel more stuck on the mattress.
Bounce Test
The Tempurpedic Supreme has a very low level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 5.81”. This is 3.87” less bounce than the average of 9.68”.
Max. Depth
3.91″
Max. Rebound
1.90″
Total Bounce
5.81″
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max Bounce Height

The low level of bounce is exactly where we expected it to be. The mattress is an all-foam design, uses memory foam, and uses a memory foam that is more traditional. The more traditional memory foam is very slow to respond back to shape, absorbs a ton of energy, and returns very little energy.
The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
This combination is fantastic when it comes to reducing motion transfer, however, it greatly reduces the level of bounce as well. The lower level of bounce means it’s harder to move around on the mattress and also that sex performance will be notably degraded.
Ideally, I like to see 8-12” of total bounce. It’s a sweet spot that creates the right conditions for minimal motion transfer, without activating significant cons on the mattress, namely ease of movement and amorous activities.
Suffice to say, the Supreme mattress is well below my ideal bounce range and the consequences of such a low bounce are severe with respect to ease of movement and the dance without pants.
Edge Support Test
The Tempurpedic Supreme has a mediocre level of edge support. During our sitting edge tests, we measured 5.5” of sitting sinkage compression. This is 1.47” more sitting sinkage than the average of 4.03”.
Max Sinkage
5.50″
Lying Support
Mediocre
While sitting directly on the edge there is a collapse of materials. As a result, I did not feel well supported.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

Lying edge support is equally mediocre. While lying directly on the edge of the mattress I did not feel tremendously well supported in any sleeping position.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

The classic memory foam feel creates lots of body contouring hug, which is fine when it’s in the middle of the mattress.
However, when lying on the edge it creates a weakening of support, such that I do not feel well supported while lying near the edge.
Sex Test
The Tempurpedic Supreme has a mediocre level of sex performance. On the positive side, the mattress creates minimal noise, has excellent pressure relief, and good enough cooling.
However, it fails to deliver on the two most critical factors, bounce and edge support.
The level of bounce is low at 5.81”. In addition, sitting edge support is well below average at 5.5”. This combination of mediocre edge support and low bounce is absolutely devastating for amorous activities.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 6.1 | Low |
Edge Support | 20% | 6.9 | Mediocre |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
Cooling | 5% | 8.0 | Good |
The Tempurpedic Supreme creates the classic memory foam feel. When it comes to body contouring hug, motion transfer, and pressure relief, it’s wonderful.
However, those same attributes that make motion low and pressure relief excellent also greatly inhibit the dance without pants.
Pressure Relief Test
The Tempurpedic Supreme has excellent pressure relief. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of pressure points building anywhere on my body.
Comfort Layer
3.0″
Support Layer
8.25″
While the mattress creates a more dramatic and polarizing traditional memory foam feel. For those who enjoy lots of hug and contouring, the pressure relief dynamic is excellent.

The mattress is equipped with 3.0” of memory foam (split into two 1.5” layers). This 3.0” comfort layer is less than the average comfort layer thickness, which is 4.1”, based on all of our tests to date.
Nevertheless, the relatively thin 3.0” comfort layer didn’t seem to have a significant negative impact on pressure relief performance. I expect most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be good, provided you like the feel of memory foam.
Lastly, I was especially impressed with the pressure mapping tests. PSI did not exceed 1.14 in any sleeping position. Pressure at or near the 2.0 range is considered a high pressure point and we didn’t measure pressure anywhere near those levels.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Side Sleepers | 0.18 | 1.14 |
Pressure Map – Back Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Back Sleepers | 0.13 | 0.97 |
Pressure Map – Stomach Sleepers

Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
---|---|---|
Stomach Sleepers | 0.14 | 0.83 |
Off-Gassing Test
Off-gassing on the Tempurpedic Supreme mattress is strong right out of the bag. A strong odor initially isn’t necessarily a sign of a problem, as the average mattress fully off-gasses within a week (6-day average).
Initial Smell Strength
Strong
Off-Gassing Period
40 days
But with the Tempurpedic, the mattress smelled for 40 full days and beyond. This is significantly longer than the average, which is only 6 days.
After day 40 we stopped the test, as it had already achieved an off-gassing score of 0.0 by that point.

The off-gassing is a little surprising given that the mattress does not ship compressed.
Oftentimes, the act of being vacuum sealed and then decompressed at home can delay mattress off-gassing. Mattresses that ship uncompressed can off-gas a bit while in route.
Company
The Tempurpedic Supreme mattress is exclusively sold by Costco and is backed by Costco’s trial and refund policy.
This gives the mattress a 365-night trial and a 10-year warranty. Shipping and returns are free as well.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|
Trial Period | 15% | 10 | 365 nights |
Warranty | 10% | 8.0 | 10 years |
Shipping | 5% | 10 | $0 |
Returns | 20% | 10 | $0 |
Trust | 50% | 5.0 | Poor |
Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
The mattress ships uncompressed and is delivered via white glove delivery to your door.
Compared to average, the Costco trial is longer than average (average is 173 nights), but the warranty is shorter than others.
Of all mattresses, we’ve tested to date, 24% have lifetime warranties and the average of the other 76% of mattresses is 13 years. The warranty on the Tempurpedic Supreme is shorter than both of these numbers.
How firm is Tempurpedic Supreme?
The Tempurpedic Supreme mattress is available in two firmness levels—medium and firm.

We tested the medium version, which we noted to have a slightly firmer feel than stated—a 6 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm. This is a popular firmness among the widest range of sleepers as it provides a nice balance between comfort and support.

We estimate the firm version to be around an 8 out of 10 and have a firm feel. A mattress of this firmness would be best suited for back or stomach sleepers as well as heavier weighted sleepers who can benefit from the extra support and pushback.
Support & Sleeping Positions
The Tempurpedic Supreme has excellent support. During our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions.
The mattress is equipped with 8.25” of support materials including a 3.0” support foam that sits atop a 5.25” layer of convoluted support foam.
Convoluted foam is foam that has been cut with air channels that help improve cooling and adds a measure of softness to the mattress.

With 8.25” of support materials the Supreme has a support layer that is slightly thicker than the average 7.9” support layer. Ultimately, this is a classic memory foam mattress.
There is lots of body contouring hug, a slow material response, and a mattress that can be harder to move around on. This is a very polarizing feel.
Some sleepers absolutely love this feel and some hate it. Only you can say what works for your body.
For those who enjoy this feel, the Tempurpedic does a great job of creating a neutral spinal alignment, especially for side sleepers. The memory foam contours to the precise shape of the body, creating great support and pressure relief.

The Cover
The Tempurpedic Supreme has a thin cover that Tempurpedic describes as a “cool to the touch cover”. It is a knit cover with white and light blue accents embossed into the surface.

The Comfort Layer
Beneath the cover is a two-layer comfort layer including two 1.5″ memory foam layers. Both of these foam layers work together to provide comfort, but the 3.0″ total thickness is still thinner than the average comfort layer (4.1″ thick).

The Support Layer
The support layer has two layers of material. The top layer is a 3.0″ support foam followed by a 5.25″ support foam. The lower support foam is convoluted, which is designed to improve breathability, airflow, and pressure relief.

Product Evolution
Tempurpedic Supreme versions have been sold at Costco as early as 2021. However, those were variants of Tempurpedic’s Contour and Cloud series.
In 2024, Costco dropped all Contour and Cloud versions and instead now only offers what they call the “Tempurpedic Supreme”. This new series-less Supreme mattress is available in medium, medium hybrid, and firm options.
While the Tempurpedic Supreme shares many similarities with the earlier Tempurpedic Contour Supreme and Cloud Supreme, it is its own unique model.
