The Verdict

When comparing Nectar vs. Leesa, both are high-performing brands, but there are many differences when it comes to feel, firmness, and who each brand may be best for. Nectar offers memory foam or memory foam hybrids, while Leesa has foam, hybrid, memory foam hybrid, or a plus-sized mattress.

Concerning firmness, Leesa has the wider spread, ranging from Soft (4) up to Firm (8). Nectar has a narrower spread, Medium (5) to Medium-Firm (6). If you know you want a soft or firm feel, then Leesa will likely be the better option.

Both mattresses are somewhat near average, in terms of price, but Nectar is the lower-priced option. The average Nectar mattress is $1,134 and the average Leesa is $1,573. That being said, both brands have a super affordable option with nearly identical overall performance—the Nectar Classic ($649, 8.52 performance score) or the Leesa Studio ($639, 8.43 performance score). If you want a value-packed mattress for less than $700, either one of these mattresses could fit the bill.

But when it comes to performance, Leesa is the winner. Leesa has an average overall performance of 8.93, while Nectar’s average drops to 8.66. Ultimately, you’re getting better quality materials and better performance from Leesa, but Nectar will get you into a new mattress with less cash invested.

Which Mattress Should You Buy?

The mattresses earning the title for “best overall” from each brand have the highest overall performance. Overall performance is determined by scores from 8 different categories including cooling, motion transfer, response time, edge support, sex performance, pressure relief, off-gassing, and company.

Sinkage and bounce are also taken into consideration, but they are not direct scoring factors.

Between Nectar and Leesa, the two top recommendations are Nectar Luxe Hybrid and Leesa Sapira.

It excels in pressure relief (10/10), has good cooling, and fast material response time. For a modern memory foam mattress with a medium feel, the Nectar Luxe Hybrid is a fantastic value.

The Sapira performs in the top 2% of all mattresses tested to date and is $1,599 for a queen. This is slightly more than average, but the high performance makes it a standout value. This mattress earns a 10/10 in our performance tests for: Cooling, Motion Transfer, and Pressure Relief.

If you’re looking for the best-of-the-best from both brands, I would steer you towards the Nectar Luxe Hybrid and Leesa Sapira. Both of these mattresses represent the best performance from each brand and are a good value.

The Leesa Sapira has a higher overall score compared to Nectar, but also costs $200 more. If you’re on a tight budget, this could be a relevant factor.

In terms of feel, the Nectar Luxe is a memory foam hybrid with very deep sinkage and low bounce. It has the contour you’d expect from memory foam, while still retaining a fast material response time. The Leesa Sapira has less sinkage (moderate) and very high bounce, giving the mattress a more active feel than what you’ll get with Nectar.

If you typically sleep on your side, my top recommendations would be the Nectar Luxe Hybrid and Leesa Legend. Side sleepers benefit from thicker comfort layers, which facilitate exceptional pressure relief. When lying on your side, there are more pressure points on the hips and shoulders. Keeping your spine in alignment is a top priority to effectively limit painful pressure points.

Strictly thinking about performance, the Leesa Legend is the best option with an overall score of 9.18, but the price is steeper ($2,079). If you’re on a tight budget, the Nectar is only $1,399, but you’re also getting lower performance (8.86).

Both of these mattresses have a medium feel (5) and great pressure relief. The Nectar is going to give you that traditional memory foam feel, where the Leesa Legend is a bit more of a modern feel, with less sinkage and high bounce. Depending on what feel you’re looking for, either mattress could be a good option.

If you prefer to sleep on your back or stomach, I’d opt for the Nectar Classic and Leesa Sapira.

The Nectar has minimal sinkage and a medium-firm feel, while the Leesa offers moderate sinkage and a slightly softer feel (5 out of 10). Both mattresses have good cooling and pressure relief.

The Nectar is 11.5″ thick and has a medium-firm (6) feel. It struggles with a slower material response time, but the minimal sinkage is great for maintaining spinal alignment and it’s priced under $700.

The Leesa Sapira has a much higher overall score, 9.47, and ranks in the top 2% of all mattresses tested. It is 11″ thick and has a medium-firm feel (6). It has moderate sinkage and very high bounce. The Sapira has lower levels of motion transfer and a significantly better sex score, making it a great pick for couples, especially.

Heavier sleepers are generally considered to be any sleeper over 250 lbs. Sleepers that fall into this class benefit from thicker comfort layers and reinforced support. With this in mind, our top pick for heavier sleepers includes the Nectar Luxe Hybrid and Leesa Plus Hybrid.

The Leesa Plus Hybrid is the only mattress among these two that is technically designed for heavier bodies, but the Nectar Luxe Hybrid has a very similar build and quality.

These two picks have nearly identical overall performance and a similar price tag. They are both 13″ thick or more (Nectar is 13.5″ thick), which gives both mattresses great pressure relief.

The Leesa has better edge support and also more bounce, which improves the sex performance. But it also has higher levels of motion transfer. On the other hand, the Nectar has deeper sinkage, less bounce, and slightly better pressure relief. As disadvantages, the Nectar struggles with edge support and the lower bounce hurts the sex score as well.

If cooling is a top priority for you, you may be best served by the Nectar Ultra or the Leesa Sapira. Both of these mattresses earned a 10/10 for cooling performance.

The Nectar Ultra ($1,799) is a 15″ hybrid with a medium feel (5 out of 10). This mattress has a memory foam comfort layer, but also a layer of phase change material that sits directly below the cover and gives the mattress a cool-to-the-touch feel.

The Leesa Sapira ($1,599) is an 11″ hybrid with a medium-firm feel (6 out of 10). The Sapira uses a blend of different foam types, giving the mattress more of a balanced feel compared to the Nectar. While this mattress doesn’t use fancy materials specifically for cooling, it still excels in this area, earning a 10/10. Leesa also offers the Sapira Chill, a model specifically designed for cooling—both mattresses earned a 10/10 for cooling.

If budget is your biggest concern, I’d recommend the Nectar Premier or the Leesa Original. Both of these mattresses are close to $1000 without sacrificing overall performance. The Nectar Premier has an overall score of 8.62 while the Leesa Original has an overall score of 9.00.

If you’re on an even tighter budget, you can also opt for the Nectar Classic or Leesa Studio. These mattresses have lower overall performance, but are also priced under $700 for a queen mattress, a $300 savings compared to the higher-performing options above. For reference, the Nectar Classic scores an 8.52 and the Leesa Studio scores an 8.43.

Have a budget of $1000 or less?

Have a budget of $700 or less?

For sleepers who struggle with back pain, I would recommend the Nectar Hybrid and Leesa Reserve. If you suffer from back pain, finding a mattress that prioritizes spinal alignment and pressure relief is critically important.

Of these two picks, the Leesa Reserve has the higher performance, but the price tag is also significantly higher. The Reserve is a 14″ memory foam hybrid that is available in three firmnesses—Soft (4), Medium (5.5), or Slightly Firm (7). For back pain, I’d stick with the Medium or Slightly Firm.

The Nectar Hybrid could be a solid option for sleepers on a tighter budget. Priced under $800, the Nectar is a 12″ hybrid with deep sinkage and moderate bounce. Pressure relief won’t be near as good as what you get with the Leesa, but you’re also saving $2K, so there’s certainly some advantages.

For couples, sex performance may be at the top of your list—if that’s you, I’d steer you toward the Nectar Hybrid and Leesa Original Hybrid. Both of these mattresses excel in bounce, edge support, noise, cooling, and pressure relief, all critically important factors for sex performance.

They also have a sex performance score that is higher than average.

The Nectar Hybrid has a sex score of 8.7 (lower than Leesa, but still better than average). It has moderate bounce and good edge support.

The Leesa Original Hybrid has a sex score of 9.5 with very high bounce and good edge support.

Between these two mattresses, the Leesa Original Hybrid is certainly the better choice, but the price is also $400 more for the Leesa. This cold certainly be money well spent if intimacy is #1, but might not be worth the investment for everyone.

The Leesa Sapira Chill is available in a soft version, estimated to be around a 4 out of 10 on the firmness scale. With an overall score of 9.11, this is the best soft mattress in this comparison. Nectar doesn’t have a mattress softer than a 5 out of 10 firmness (medium), as a result, it’s not a good choice if you want a soft feel.

If you’re exclusively looking for a mattress with a Medium-Firm feel, I’d opt for the Nectar Hybrid or the Leesa Sapira.

While Leesa Sapira secures the higher overall performance between these two, both mattresses have a suitable Medium-Firm feel.

The Nectar Hybrid has deep sinkage and moderate levels of bounce. In contrast, the Leesa Sapira has moderate sinkage and very high bounce. Neither feel is right nor wrong, per se, but depending on what you’re looking for in a mattress, you may be better suited for one over the other.

The Leesa Sapira Chill is available in a firm version as well, estimated to be around an 8 out of 10 on the firmness scale. With an overall score of 9.08, this is the best soft mattress in this comparison. Nectar doesn’t have a mattress firmer than a 6 out of 10 firmness (medium-firm), as a result, it’s not a good choice if you want a firm feel.

Lightweight sleepers or those who sleep on their side tend to need a softer mattress. By comparison, heavier sleepers or those who sleep on their back or stomach tend to need more support and a firmer feel.

Leesa Sapira

The average cooling score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.6.

Aside from the 10/10 score from the Sapira, all other mattresses in this comparison earned a 9/10 cooling score. This score is better than average cooling and really helps these mattresses to stand out.

Leesa does have a lineup of specialty mattresses designed specifically for advanced cooling—the Chill collection.

To date, we have tested the Leesa Sapira Chill, Leesa Legend Chill, Leesa Studio Chill, and Leesa Oasis Chill. These mattresses have a cover that is cool to the touch and a pocketed coil support with great breathability.

Of these four cooling mattresses, the Sapira, Legend, and Oasis all earned 10/10 cooling score. The Studio Chill earned a 9/10 for cooling performance, tying with the standard Leesa Sapira.

Sinkage Test

Sinkage levels vary on Nectar and Leesa mattresses. Nectar has mattresses with minimal, moderate, and deep sinkage. Leesa has mattresses with minimal or moderate sinkage.

The mattress with the deepest sinkage is the Nectar Premier Hybrid, at 2.54″ and the mattress with the least amount of sinkage is the Leesa Legend at 1.88″.

Leesa Sapira Sinkage Test

The average sinkage depth across all mattresses tested to date is 2.17″.

Back and stomach sleepers usually prefer less sinkage, which better maintains proper alignment of their spine. The Nectar Classic (1.91″ at $649), Nectar Premier (2.12″ at $949), Leesa Original (2.09″ at $1,059), and Leesa Sapira (2.05″ at $1599) all have less sinkage than average and are also a good value, priced under $2K.

Generally, side sleepers enjoy a deeper level of sinkage, as that typically translates to better pressure relief and contour. For deeper sinkage, opt for the Nectar Premier Hybrid. This mattress has 2.54″ of sinkage and is priced at $1,099.

Are you over 300 lbs.? Heavier sleepers generally need a mattress with less sinkage to maintain optimal support. The Leesa Legend may be a good option, but bear in mind, the price tag is higher. This mattress measures 1.88″ sinkage in our tests and has a price tag of $2,079.

Motion Transfer Test

For sensitive sleepers, motion transfer may top the list among the most important issues. If you find yourself in this camp, the Leesa will be the better pick for you.

Leesa has an average motion transfer score of 10/10 and Nectar’s average motion transfer score is 8/10.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding motion transfer.

The average motion transfer score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.2.

All three of the Leesa mattresses in this comparison have lower levels of motion transfer than average. This collection includes one all-foam mattress and two hybrid mattresses.

The Nectar Premier Hybrid has a motion transfer score of 8.2, which matches the average score.

The Nectar Classic and Nectar Premier both have more motion transfer than average. Now, these scores are by no means near the highest we’ve tested.

Response Test

If material responsiveness is a critical factor, the Leesa is going to be your best bet. Leesa scored significantly higher than Nectar for response time. The average response score of a Leesa mattress is 9.6, whereas the average response score of Nectar is only 8.0.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding response.

Leesa Sapira

The average response score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.8.

Looking at all six models tested, the Leesa Legend has the fastest response, being mostly recovered by 0.2 seconds and fully recovered by only 0.4 seconds.

The Leesa Original and Leesa Sapira weren’t too far behind, only 0.1-0.2 seconds, slower than the Leesa Legend, still incredibly fast.

When we look at material types, we see that the Sapira and the Legend are both hybrids, with highly responsive comfort foams and a coil base.

The Leesa Original is all-foam, but uses foam that is so responsive, it nearly matches the response time of the Leesa hybrids.

Necar, on the other hand, is significantly slower. The fastest Nectar response time comes from the Nectar Premier with a score of 8.8 (right at the average level). The Nectar Classic and Nectar Premier Hybrid are both significantly slower than average, taking over a full second for full material response.

Bounce Test

While bounce is a bit of a preferential factor, both brands have a decently wide range offered. Nectar mattresses have mattresses with low to moderate bounce and Leesa mattresses are low to very high. On average, Leesa has a higher average bounce (10.7″) compared to bounce on Nectar (7.3″).

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding bounce.

The average bounce across all mattresses tested to date is 9.18″.

Mattresses with more bounce than average include the Leesa Legend (11.57″) and Leesa Sapira (12.67″).

Mattresses with less bounce than average include the Nectar Classic (8.07″), Nectar Premier (6.38″), Nectar Premier Hybrid (7.41″), and Leesa Original (7.94″).

Mattresses with more bounce are better for ease of movement and increase sex performance. However, higher bounce also typically creates a higher level of motion transfer. So there are pros and cons when it comes to bounce.

Edge Support Test

For good edge support, Nectar takes the win over Leesa. The average edge support score of Nectar mattresses is 8.4 and the average edge support score for Leesa is 7.8.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding edge support.

Leesa Sapira

Leesa Sapira Edge Support

The average edge support score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.6.

Mattresses with the best edge support are good for both sitting at or near the edge as well as for lying.

The Nectar Classic has the best edge support among all mattresses in this comparison with a score of 9.4. This mattress only has 3.25″ of sinkage and excellent support when lying.

The Leesa Legend and Leesa Original both had 5.5″ of sitting sinkage and excellent lying support. Nectar Premier actually has better sitting support than the Leesa Legend and Leesa Original, but lying support was a bit lacking.

The Nectar Premier Hybrid and Leesa Sapira both had significantly deeper sitting sinkage, which is really what kills the score on these mattresses, despite the fact that lying support is excellent.

Sex Test

Sex performance is better on Leesa mattresses than on Nectar. The average sex score for Leesa is 8.6 and the average sex score for Nectar is 7.6.

For some context, a higher bounce level and better edge support are the two most important indicators that a mattress will also be good for sex performance. Noise, pressure relief, and cooling are among the other less critical factors.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding sex.

The average sex score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.3.

The Leesa Sapira and Leesa Legend are the best mattresses for sex. These picks have very high bounce and even though they lack edge support, they have good scores in the other sub-categories.

The Nectar Classic has a near-average edge performance with a score of 8.2. This mattress doesn’t really have an impressive amount of bounce, but it does have the best edge support of any other mattress in this comparison.

The Nectar Premier, Nectar Premier Hybrid, and Leesa Original have lower bounce and poorer edge support. Considering that these two factors alone make up 80% of the sex score, these mattresses represent the worst sex performers between the two brands.
