Our Verdict

Loom & Leaf is a luxury memory foam mattress, and the Leesa lineup includes a mix of foam, hybrid, memory foam hybrid, and plus-sized mattresses.

The Loom and Leaf is available in a Medium (5.5) firmness as well as a Firm (8) version. Leesa mattresses range from Soft (4) up to Firm (8). Leesa also has numerous mattresses at the medium (5) to medium-firm (6) level.

The Loom & Leaf is $2,699 for a queen mattress. The average price among all Leesa mattresses tested to date is $1,508. Suffice to say, Leesa is the more budget-friendly and value brand.

The Loom & Leaf has a performance score of 8.75 and the Leesa average performance score is 8.93. Considering all 12 Leesa mattresses that we’ve tested to date, 4 of the mattresses have performance that is lower than the Loom & Leaf and 8 Leesa mattresses perform better than Loom & Leaf.

Both Leesa and Loom & Leaf are strong performers, but they are very different mattresses. Loom and Leaf is memory foam, meaning lots of body contouring hug, lower motion transfer, and incredible pressure relief. Leesa has a variety of mattress types, but in general offers a more balanced and less polarizing type of feel. Which is best for you will likely to be determined by your budget and your preference for (or lack thereof) memory foam.

Sinkage and bounce are also taken into consideration, but they are not direct scoring factors.

Between Loom & Leaf and Leesa, the two top recommendations are Loom & Leaf and Leesa Sapira.

The Sapira is priced at $1,599 for a queen and ranks among the top 1% of all mattresses we’ve tested. In our tests, the Sapira earns a 10/10 for the following categories: Cooling, Motion Transfer, and Pressure Relief. The Sapira is a great option for sleepers looking for a medium-firm mattress with fantastic oveall performance.

If you’re looking for the best-of-the-best between these two brands, I’d recommend the Loom & Leaf and Leesa Sapira. Leesa has the higher overall performance and a lower price tag (40% less than the Loom & Leaf).

But they also have very different feels, so it’s not all about the price and performance score. For a luxury memory foam feel with extremely deep sinkage and very low levels of bounce, Loom & Leaf is the better option.

The Leesa Sapira is a hybrid mattress with moderate sinkage and very high bounce. If you want a mattress that is active and engaging, the Sapira may be the better pick.

Both mattresses have exceptional pressure relief and high-quality materials.

For side sleepers, my top recommendations would be the Loom & Leaf and Leesa Legend. Side sleepers benefit from mattresses with thicker comfort layers and excellent pressure relief. The Loom & Leaf earned a 10/10 and the Leesa Legend earned a 9/10, both fantastic scores.

The Loom & Leaf is 12″ thick with a classic memory foam feel. It has great cooling, low motion transfer, extremely deep sinkage, and very low bounce.

The Leesa Legend has an overall score of 9.18 (better than Loom & Leaf), and a price that is lower than Loom & Leaf ($2,079). The Legend has minimal sinkage, high bounce, and a Medium firmness (5 out of 10).

If you typically sleep on your back or stomach, you’ll want to opt for something with less sinkage. I’d recommend the Leesa Sapira. The Loom & Leaf could be an option if you’re a lighter-weight sleeper and don’t mind the deeper sinkage of the Loom & Leaf.

Heavier-weighted sleepers will likely find the sinkage to be too deep on Loom & Leaf for back and stomach sleeping. However, the firm version of Loom & Leaf will have less sinkage and is a better option, provided you’re okay with the firmer feel.

The Leesa Sapira has moderate sinkage levels and very high bounce. For back or stomach sleepers, there is less engagement into the layers, which helps to maintain spinal alignment. This mattress earns a 10/10 performance score for cooling, motion transfer, and pressure relief.

For heavier-weighted sleepers, I’d recommend the Leesa Plus Hybrid. The Leesa Plus hybrid is specifically designed to meet the needs of heavier-weighted sleepers.

The Plus Hybrid has a slightly lower overall performance score (8.72) compared to the Loom & Leaf (8.75). But it also has a much lower price tag ($1319 for a queen), while also delivering better support for heavier bodies.

Again, the Loom & Leaf isn’t a bad mattress, but it’s just not designed for heavier sleepers over 300 pounds. Materials are less responsive, it has extremely deep sinkage, and edge support struggles a bit as well.

If cooling is a top priority for you, again, my top recommendations would be the Loom & Leaf and Leesa Sapira. The Loom & Leaf earns a 9/10 for cooling and the Sapira earns a 10/10 for cooling.

Loom & Leaf is a memory foam mattress, which is naturally not known for great cooling. And yet, for a memory foam mattress, the Loom & Leaf feels very cool and breathable. It has an organic cotton cover and cooling gel foam that helps limit heat retention and pull heat away from the body while you sleep.

The Leesa Sapira has a poly foam comfort layer with a thin, cotton cover. It really doesn’t take any notable strides towards advanced cooling (unless you opt for the Leesa Sapira Chill model, which uses a phase-change cooling cover). That being said, it still earns a fantastic 10/10 for exceptional cooling performance.

For sleepers on a tight budget, I’d recommend the Leesa Original. The Leesa comes in under $1,000 ($929 for a queen mattress), while the Loom & Leaf is $2,600 for the same size. As an added bonus, the Leesa also has higher performance (9.00 for Leesa compared to 8.75 for Loom & Leaf).

If you struggle with back pain, my top picks would be the Loom & Leaf and Leesa Reserve. Both of these mattresses are high-quality mattresses, despite having slightly different feels.

The Loom & Leaf is a 12″ memory foam mattress with extremely deep sinkage, very low bounce, and a Medium (5) or Firm (8) feel. It has a pressure relief score of 10 out of 10 with 4.5″ of comfort material above the support layer.

The Leesa Reserve is a 14″ memory foam hybrid with moderate sinkage and low bounce. This mattress is available in three firmness levels—Soft (4), Medium (5.5), and Slightly Firm (7). In our tests, the Reserve earned a 10/10 for pressure relief and cooling, but it also has a higher price tag the Loom & Leaf ($2,959).

For couples looking for a mattress that enhances sex performance, I’d recommend the Leesa Original Hybrid.

In our performance tests, the Loom & Leaf earned a sex score of 6.1 and the Leesa Original Hybrid had a sex score of 9.5. This category is simply no contest.

For the best sex performance, we’re looking for high bounce, supportive edge, good cooling, good pressure relief, and minimal noise.

The Leesa Original Hybrid hits the nail on the head across all sub-categories and is a fantastic option for sleepers looking for better intimacy.

The Leesa Sapira Chill (Soft version), rated a 4 out of 10 firmness, is the best soft mattress in this comparison. The Loom & Leaf has a Medium (5) or Firm (8) feel and would not be well suited for sleepers looking for a soft feel.

Check out our Best Soft Mattress guide for a full list of other mattresses we recommend instead.

The Leesa Sapira, rated a 6 out of 10 firmness, is the best medium-firm mattress in this comparison. The Loom & Leaf will be just a touch softer, 5.5 out of 10, with a medium feel.

Both the Loom & Leaf and Leesa Sapira Chill have a firm version of their mattress, rating an 8 out of 10 on the firmness scale.

Loom & Leaf has extremely deep sinkage and very low bounce. The Leesa Sapira Chill has moderate sinkage and high bounce. Depending on the exact feel you’re looking for, either mattress could be a good match for you.

Lightweight sleepers or those who sleep on their side tend to need a softer mattress. By comparison, heavier sleepers or those who sleep on their back or stomach tend to need more support and a firmer feel.

Cooling Test

Between Loom & Leaf and Leesa, both brands have great cooling, scoring between 9-10. The single mattress with the highest cooling performance is the Leesa Sapira, the only mattress in this comparison to earn a 10/10 for cooling performance.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding cooling.

  • Ending Temperature (after 5 minutes) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes

Below, you can watch a video of how the heat dissipates on each mattress during our cooling test. For this test, we lie on the mattress for 15 minutes, get off the mattress, and then take periodic surface-level temperature measurements.

Loom & Leaf

Leesa Legend

Leesa Sapira

Leesa Original

The average cooling score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.7.

From this data, we see that all 4 mattresses in the comparison have better cooling performance than average. The Leesa Sapira and Leesa Legend have a pocketed coil base that helps to improve airflow and limit heat retention.

The Leesa Original and Loom & Leaf are both all-foam mattresses, but scored a 9/10 for cooling performance.

Sinkage Test

Looking at sinkage, the Loom & Leaf has the deepest sinkage, and Leesa offers a range between minimal and moderate sinkage.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding sinkage.

Leesa Original

Leesa original sinkage test

The average sinkage depth across all mattresses tested to date is 2.23″.

Back and stomach sleepers usually prefer less sinkage, which better maintains proper alignment of their spine. All three Leesa mattresses hit that mark, but do so at very different price ranges.

Mattresses with minimal to moderate sinkage include: Leesa Legend (1.88″), Leesa Original (2.09″), and the Leesa Sapira (2.05″). All of these mattresses have less sinkage than average, with the Leesa Original having the lowest sticker price as well.

Generally, side sleepers enjoy a deeper level of sinkage, as that typically translates to better pressure relief and contour. For deeper sinkage, opt for the Loom & Leaf (3.09″) but understand that it will come at a higher price than the Leesa.

Motion Transfer Test

Looking at motion transfer levels, all four mattresses in this comparison scored a 10/10 and have less motion transfer than average.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding motion transfer.

The level of motion transfer on each mattress is also documented in the videos below.

Loom & Leaf

Leesa Legend

Leesa Sapira

Leesa Original

The average motion transfer score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.2.

The Loom & Leaf and Leesa mattresses do a fantastic job of limiting motion transfer across the surface of the mattress. Each mattress has a foam comfort layer that helps to absorb motion and prevent energy from translating.

For the absolute lowest level of motion transfer, check out the Leesa Original. In our tests, the Leesa had an acceleration range of only 2.06 m/s², which is 76% less than the average mattress.

Response Test

Moving onto response time, the Leesa mattresses have a much faster material recovery speed compared to Loom & Leaf. Memory foam is known to have a slower response time than other foams and significantly slower than coils.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding response.

Response TestScoreMostly RecoveredCompletely Recovered
Loom & Leaf7.10.6 seconds1.6 seconds
Leesa Legend9.90.2 seconds0.4 seconds
Leesa Original9.40.3 seconds0.5 seconds
Leesa Sapira9.50.3 seconds0.4 seconds

In our tests, Loom & Leaf performs just as we’d expect a mattress with a traditional memory foam feel to perform. If you’re looking for a memory foam feel, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but if you’re wanting something more responsive and bouncey, Loom & Leaf likely isn’t the right pick for you.

The level of responsiveness for each mattress is documented in the videos below.

Loom & Leaf

Leesa Legend

Leesa Sapira

Leesa Original

The average response score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.8.

All three Leesa mattresses perform significantly faster than average. All 3 models use highly responsive poly foams. The Leesa Sapira and Leesa Legend also have pocketed coil bases that give the mattress most pushback and faster response.

The mattress with the fastest response time is the Leesa Legend. In our tests, this mattress was mostly recovered by 0.2 seconds and fully recovered by 0.4 seconds.

Bounce Test

Concerning bounce, these four mattresses have a pretty wide range of options. Being memory foam, the Loom & Leaf has the least amount of bounce (very low), which is pretty typical for this type of material. Leesa offers Low, High, or Very High bounce levels.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding bounce.

Bounce TestBounce FeelBounce Height
Loom & LeafVery Low4.72″

The level of bounce for each mattress is documented in the videos below.

Loom & Leaf

Leesa Legend

Leesa Sapira

Leesa Original

The average bounce across all mattresses tested to date is 8.78″.

Mattresses with more bounce than average include the Leesa Legend (11.57″) and the Leesa Sapira (12.67″).

Mattresses with less bounce than average include the Loom & Leaf (4.72″) and Leesa Original (7.94″).

Mattresses with more bounce are better for ease of movement and improved sex performance. However, higher bounce also typically creates a higher level of motion transfer. So there are pros and cons when it comes to bounce.

Edge Support Test

While neither brand is particularly impressive for edge support, Leesa is technically the better option in this category.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding edge support.

Leesa Original

Leesa Original Edge Support

The average edge support score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.6.

The Loom & Leaf and Leesa Sapira both scored a 7.5 for edge support, with 6.25″ of sinkage when seated at the edge of the mattress. This is 55% deeper sinkage than the average mattress.

Note: For better edge support, we’re looking for less sinkage when sitting directly on the edge.

Both the Leesa Original and Leesa Legend measured 5.5″ of sitting sinkage, both less sinkage than the Loom & Leaf and Leesa Sapira, but still 36% deeper than average.

If edge support is critically important, you may want to opt for the Leesa Sapira Chill (9.5) or Leesa Natural Hybrid (9.4), both of which have significantly better edge support than the other Leesa mattresses listed.

Sex Test

For the best sex performance, Leesa takes the lead over Loom & Leaf. The Leesa Legend and Leesa Sapira both scored high (in the 9s), and the Loom & Leaf and Leesa Original were quite a bit lower.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding sex.

Leesa Sapira9.1105.98.01010

The average sex score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.3.

The Leesa Sapira and Leesa Legend both have high scores for sex performance. These mattresses have high bounce, which makes up 60% of the sex score. Edge support is a bit lacking (which makes up 20% of the sex score), but because the other categories score highly, it doesn’t really pull down the score too much.

Leesa Legend Chill Cover Photo

Meanwhile, the Loom & Leaf and Leesa Original both struggle more with lower bounce and worse edge support. If sex performance is a top priority, I would avoid these two mattresses.

Pressure Relief Test

For sleepers highly concerned with pressure relief, any of these 4 mattresses can be a suitable choice. They all score between 9-10 in our pressure relief tests.

The Loom & Leaf and Leesa Sapira earn a 10/10 for pressure relief, with similar comfort layers between 4-4.5″ thick.

Really, you can’t go wrong with any of these mattresses. They have robust, high-quality layers, with different feels depending on what you’re looking for.

Off-Gassing Test

For off-gassing, Loom & Leaf takes the win here and has faster off-gassing than all Leesa mattresses compared here.

Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding off-gassing.

The average smell duration across all mattresses tested to date is 6.6 days.

All mattresses in this comparison off-gas faster than average. That being said, the Loom & Leaf mattress is the fastest at 0 days. This mattress ships uncompressed and has zero smell upon arrival.

The Leesa Original and Leesa Legend are slightly behind the Loom & Leaf, completely off-gassing between 3-4 days. And the Leesa Sapira is technically the slowest to off-gas, taking a full 6 days.

But keep in mind, even the slowest performing mattress in this group still off-gasses faster than average.

Company

Looking at the company terms and policies, both brands have their own advantages, but Leesa technically has the higher score.

Among all mattresses tested to date, the average trial length is 177 nights, and the average warranty is 14 years, excluding 41% of mattresses that offer lifetime warranties.

Loom & Leaf has the longer trial period, offering 365 nights to decide if the mattress is right for you. If at any time during the trial you decide that it’s not perfect, you can return the mattress. But remember that all returns will come with a $99 return fee.

Leesa only has a 120-night trial period, 145 nights shorter than Loom & Leaf. But if you’re in it for the long game, Leesa has a lifetime warranty, longer than Loom & Leaf’s 25-year warranty. Also, Leesa offers free returns.

Depending on what factors are most important (trial, warranty, return cost), one brand may be more appealing than the other.
