Our Verdict
The WinkBed Plus is a 14.5” plus-sized mattress made of coils and a mixture of gel, latex, and support foams. The mattress is designed specifically for sleepers over 300 lbs. (up to 900 lbs. total, or 450 lbs. per side).
It has deep sinkage and low bounce providing the mattress a deep body-contouring hug.
It comes in a single firmness of 7 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm, making it a good option for sleepers of all body weights and positions. That said, lighter weighted side sleepers may not be as comfortable.
The WinkBed Plus mattress has an overall score of 9.37 which placed it in the top 4% compared to all mattresses tested to date. Looking specifically at plus-sized mattresses, this mattress is the 2nd best on the list.
The price is also more than reasonable—10% less than the average plus-sized mattress, for a savings of $166 (on a queen-sized mattress). Considering the higher performance, the below-average price tag feels like a real bargin.

How is WinkBed Different?
The WinkBed Plus mattress is a plus-sized hybrid with higher performance than average with a price that is slightly beyond the average—23% more than the average cost for mattresses aimed at plus-sized sleepers.
Advantages
The WinkBed Plus mattress has fantastic cooling, better-than-average response time, and excellent edge support. Off-gassing performance is also better than average.
Neutral Factors
Considering the preferential factors, it has deeper than average sinkage and lower than average bounce.
Disadvantages
Despite the low bounce, motion transfer was higher than average, and sex performance was worse than average.

Cooling Test
The Winkbed Plus has outstanding cooling performance.
The mattress started with a temperature of 85.3° F. After lying on the mattress for 15 minutes the surface of the mattress was 89.3°. After 5 minutes with no one lying on the mattress, it reduced the temperature down to 85.2° F.
Baseline Temp.
85.3° F
Max. Temp.

Ending Temp.
85.2° F
Max. Temp.

Ending Temp.

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
These results are important because they show us two things:
- How the mattress reacts when you’re sleeping
- How the mattress reacts when you’re moving
When testing the WinkBed Plus I thought the cooling performance was fantastic. Not only did the mattress’ max heat stay below 90°, but it also seemed to dissipate heat quickly when I rolled or moved around.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

The Winkbed Plus has fantastic heat dissipation, among the best we’ve tested. The mattress surface returned to within 0.3° of the baseline temperature within 2 minutes after getting off of the mattress.
The coils, undoubtedly, played a big role in cooling, in addition to the top layer of gel foam and 2.5″ layer of latex foam within the core.
Sinkage Test
The results of this test showed that the WinkBed Plus mattress has a deep level of sinkage.
Our pressure point sinkage test revealed a maximum sinkage depth of 2.5″. This is 0.36″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.14″, based on all of our tests to date.

Considering the WinkBed has a fairly plush pillow-top, this sinkage is about what I had expected. It’s deep enough to provide excellent pressure points and contouring, but not so deep that sleepers have a hard time moving around or feeling “stuck” within the foams.
Motion Transfer Test
The level of motion transfer is documented in the video below.
Overall, the WinkBed has moderate levels of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 9.67 m/s². This is -10% less motion transfer than the average of 8.78 m/s².
Below we have data from our accelerometer tests. These measurements reveal the intensity and motion waves as they travel across the mattress.
Max. Acceleration
4.42 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-5.25 m/s²
Accel. Range
9.67 m/s²
Compared to the original WinkBed, this is actually quite a bit more motion transfer. I think some of this can be attributed to the firmer feel of the WinkBed Plus. The Plus has a firmer feel in order to be better able to support heavier sleepers.
However, a side effect of the firmer feel is a mattress that creates more motion transfer; possibly also in part due to the layer of latex within the core.

As you can see in the chart above, we see high levels of motion transfer at the ball’s initial drop. It takes around 0.3 seconds before the motion begins to drop back off.
Response Test
The response time of the WinkBed Plus mattress is very fast. The video below shows how quickly the mattress is able to respond.
Mostly Recovered
0.3 sec.
Complete Recovery
0.4 sec.
In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.3 seconds, which is 0.11 seconds faster than the average of 0.41 seconds, based on all of our tests to date.
In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.4 seconds, which is 0.50 seconds faster than the average of 0.90 seconds.
These levels of response time are quite quick and allow the mattress to easily move with you during the night. For plus-sized sleepers especially, responsiveness can be a huge factor in helping sleepers not feel “stuck” in the mattress.
In addition, the plush 2.0″ pillowtop helps the overall responsiveness of this mattress, providing hug and contour along a greater surface area.
Bounce Test
The Winkbed Plus has a low level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 6.75″. This is 2.76″ less bounce than the average of 9.51″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Depth
3.82″
Max. Rebound
2.93″
Total Bounce
6.75″
This gives the WinkBed Plus a maximum bounce range of 6.75″. This is 2.78″ less bounce than the average of 9.53″, based on all of our tests to date.
Ideally, I want to see 8-12″ of total bounce height.
Again, comparing these numbers to the original WinkBed, the Plus has less bounce, and that is largely due to the firmer feel since the ball is not allowed to sink down as far.
The level of bounce is documented in the video below.
The firmer materials restrict the ball towards the top of the mattress, which also limits how much energy can be generated from the bounce. Less energy down means less bounce upwards.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max. Bounce Height

The 6.75″ bounce range of the Winkbed Plus certainly isn’t a bad range. It’s pretty typical of many hybrid mattresses. Thus far the only mattresses we’ve tested to notably exceed this range are the Saatva Classic, Helix Midnight, and Helix Plus.
All of the above mattresses are hybrid mattresses with a more typical medium-firm feel.
Having more bounce on a mattress can yield better performance for sex, easier time getting in / out of bed, and a more traditional feel. That said, bounce is a highly preferential factor.
Edge Support Test
The Winkbed Plus has outstanding edge support, both for sitting and lying. In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 2.50″. This is 1.54″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 4.04″, based on all of our tests to date.
The level of edge support is documented in the images below.
Max. Sinkage
2.5″
Lying Support
Outstanding
Lighter sleepers will experience better edge support while heavier sleepers may notice more deflection of the foam, as you can see in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

However, even when sitting directly on the edge wearing a 60-pound weighted vest, the edges are still supportive. There is more compression, yes, but not to the point that it feels like a collapse.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, On Side

Lying on Edge, On Back

When weight is more evenly spread across the mattress, as it would be if you were lying near the edge, the edge support is even better. During our tests, I did not feel at any time that the edge was collapsing or that the mattress was going to eject me off of the side.
Sex Test
Sex performance for the WinkBed Plus is fair. Let’s break down this score. Areas where the WinkBed Plus excelled include edge support and cooling. These are fantastic and important for sex on any mattress.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 6.7 | Low |
Edge Support | 20% | 10 | Outstanding |
Noise | 5% | 8.0 | Moderate |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |
Cooling | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |
Sinkage and bounce had somewhat moderate scores. There is certainly enough bounce to be interesting, but a little less than what would be considered ideal for most people. The same can be said for sinkage. Because it’s a bit firmer, there’s less sinkage than you may possibly prefer.

The last factor, and one with the poorest score, is noise. Because of the coil-based composition, this can be a bit of a noisy mattress. If you have other family or children in the house and want an especially quiet mattress, the WinkBed Plus might not be the best choice for you when engaging in the horizontal hokey pokey.
Pressure Relief Test
Pressure relief for the WinkBed Plus is outstanding. The comfort layer of the mattress is a little different than a foam-based comfort layer. On WinkBed, there are two main parts that make up the comfort layer—the pillowtop with gel-infused foam and the support system that sits right above the coils.
Comfort Layer
5.0″
Support Layer
9.0″
The pillowtop is 2″ thick. and the comfort foam below that is 3″ thick. That provides 5″ of comfort material before you even get to the pocketed coils.
This combination creates excellent pressure relief for sleepers of all weights and body types.
Off-Gassing Test
The off-gassing on the WinkBed is moderate right out of the box and the odor takes only 1 day to fully dissipate.
Initial Smell Strength
Moderate
Off-Gassing Period
1 day
The Winkbed Plus uses a considerable level of foam and latex within the mattress, so the potential for off-gassing is certainly there. However, I was pleasantly surprised that the mattress had very little odor to it.
Comparing over 270+ mattresses tested to date, the average off-gassing period is 7 days. Winkbed is considerably shorter than average.
Company
Winkbeds have a long 120-night trial period with free shipping and a lifetime warranty. The warranty is a full replacement program that will send you a new mattress if yours fails to perform at an acceptable level.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|
Trial Period | 15% | 8.0 | 120 nights |
Warranty | 10% | 10 | Lifetime |
Shipping | 5% | 10 | $0 |
Returns | 20% | 10 | $0 |
Trust | 50% | 10 | Outstanding |
Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
Comparing all mattresses tested to date, this average trial is 177 nights (nearly 2 months more than what Winkbed offers). The average warranty is 13 years, excluding 25% of mattresses that offer a lifetime warranty like Winkbed.

Indentation of a mattress is one of the most common reasons to redeem a warranty. Because of this, it’s oftentimes also the fine print that will guard a company against ever having to actually replace the mattress.
This is not the case with WinkBeds. If the mattress sinks more than 1.5″ in any spot, they will offer you a full replacement.
In addition to WinkBeds standard warranty terms, they also offer a 50% off replacement guarantee. In a nutshell, you can get a new replacement WinkBed mattress (same size) for 50% off for any reason. You can only do it once per household, but nevertheless, that’s a pretty cool extra.
Do note, Winkbed limits customers to one return per customer and household shipping.
How firm is WinkBed Plus?
However, in our view, it’s not quite that firm, and we rate the Winkbed Plus at a 7 out of 10.

The firmer feel is necessary to better support sleepers who weigh more. However, because the Winkbed has such a thick comfort layer, there is still considerable pressure relief for lighter and medium-weight sleepers.
Even as someone who only weighs 140 lbs., I found the mattress comfortable, supportive, and capable of relieving pressure.
Support & Sleeping Positions
Depending on your exact weight and sleeping position, you may find the WinkBed Plus to be a good (or not so good fit for you). Here’s a breakdown of who is going to have the best experience with this mattress.
Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleepers | Side Sleepers | Back Sleepers |
---|---|---|---|
Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Maybe | Yes |
150-250 lbs. | Yes | Maybe | Yes |
250-300 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
The WinkBed Plus has been tested for sleepers up to 900 lbs. (450 lbs. per side). Many mattresses we’ve tested and review have a weight capacity of around 300 lbs. per side.
Design
The design of the WinkBed mattress is a hybrid mattress that uses gel-infused foam and pocketed coils to provide comfort, fast response time, and cooling.
Type
Plus-Sized
Thickness
14.5″
Firmness

The thick comfort layer and Eurostyle pillowtop create excellent support and pressure relief for all sleepers, but especially side sleepers.
Materials
So moving right along, let’s talk about the materials used in the WinkBed Plus mattress. It is a 14.5″ plus-sized mattress with 5 layers making up the total height.
The main layers of the WinkBed Plus include:
- 2.0″ gel foam
- 2.5″ latex foam
- 1.0″ support foam
- 8.0″ pocketed coils
- 1.0″ support foam

For reference, below is what the original Winkbed material layers look like. See our full original Winkbed review here.

The Cover
The WinkBed Plus mattress has a thin Tencel cover, which is stretchy to form around the contours of the pillow top below. Tencel is cool and breathable, considered a “performance” fabric by many experts in the industry.

Below the Tencel cover is a plush pillow top layer with tufting. This layer is made up of 2.0″ of gel foam, which is soft and provides good hug and contour on the surface.

The gel-infused foam also improves cooling at the surface of the mattress.
The Comfort Layer
The WinkBed Plus has a latex support pad that replaces the SupportCell foam that is in the original WinkBed. It’s designed for better cooling and more support for heavier sleepers.
The latex foam in this layer on the WinkBed Plus has an ILD rating of 12.
Below the latex is a layer of support foam. This secondary foam is firmer than the foam above and provides support before engaging with the coil layer below.
The Support Layer
The most central part of the mattress is an 8.0″ layer of pocketed coils. Each coil is cased in fabric, which allows the coils to move independently of each other.
Unlike a traditional innerspring, where all the coils move together, the pocketed coil approach limits motion transfer and improves pressure relief across the mattress.

There is a thin layer of support material below the coils which provides a base for the coils.
Product Evolution
While WinkBed, the company, has been around since 2015, the Plus version of the mattress was only launched in 2019.
The Plus has a few improvements compared to older versions of the original WinkBed. The biggest difference is a higher coil count than older WinkBeds.

By making each coil slightly smaller, WinkBed is able to increase the overall coil count, which improves pressure relief and motion transfer without sacrificing support.
The other significant change that the Winkbed Plus brought vs. the Original Winkbed, is the addition of a 2.5″ latex layer within the core of the mattress. This change, in addition to increased material firmness, creates a sleeping surface that is more supportive and better suited to heavier body types.
Other Mattresses to Consider
For Value

Big Fig
9.26 Overall Score
The Big Fig is a high-performing plus-sized hybrid with a below-average price of only $1399. This mattress has a well-balanced performance and a slightly firm feel. Its only disadvantage is slightly longer off-gassing, but it can support sleepers up to 550 lbs (1,100 lbs total) and is a great option for heavier sleepers.
For Less Motion Transfer

Titan Plus Luxe
8.91 Overall Score
The Titan mattress is a plus-sized mattress by Brooklyn Bedding, designed to support up to 1,000 lbs. It is also a hybrid design with a thin, breathable cover. Compared to Winkbed Plus, it has lower levels of motion transfer, but also a slower material response time.
For Savings

Helix Plus
8.22 Overall Score
The Helix Plus is a hybrid blend of foam and coils that can support sleepers up to 500 lbs. per side. Like WinkBed, it has a thin Tencel cover, but it skips the plush pillow top and has a bit of a sleeker aesthetic. Performance is lower, but so is the price tag—only $1,099 for a queen mattress.
