How is Bear Pro Foam Different?
The Bear Pro Foam is an 11.50″ foam mattress with an overall performance level that is lower than average, but a below-average price tag as well.
Advantages
Specific advantages of the Bear Pro include faster response time, better edge support, fast off-gassing, and a lifetime warranty. The price is also a bit advantageous, being slightly below the average.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has very deep sinkage and low levels of bounce. Both of the factors are preferential, and different sleepers have different preferences.

If you like to sleep “in” the mattress, you may enjoy the feel of the Bear Pro. The deep sinkage is paired with a balanced contour and fast response, so the deeper sinkage is unlikely to make sleepers feel “stuck”.
Disadvantages
Disadvantages of the Bear Pro include worse cooling performance, higher levels of motion transfer, and a lower sex score. This mattress has low bounce, which isn’t doing the mattress any favors for intimacy.
Pressure relief is also below average, despite having a thicker comfort layer (6.0″) than the average (4.3″).
Cooling Test
The Bear Pro Foam has good cooling. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of heat retention around my body.
Baseline Temp.
81.1° F
Max. Temp.
92.1° F
Ending Temp.
83.0° F
That said, it’s also clear that cooling performance didn’t rise to the same level as the more expensive Bear models we’ve tested. On the positive side, this mattress cover is woven with Celliant.
Celliant is a fiber embedded with thermoreactive minerals (including quartz, silicon oxide, and titanium oxide). These minerals allow the cover to absorb heat and reflect back infrared energy, which has been clinically proven to increase blood circulation and tissue oxygenation (source).
Max. Temp.

Ending Temp.

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
While the Celliant is absolutely helping to improve cooling, it alone isn’t enough to create excellent or outstanding cooling performance. The all-foam design and memory foam top layer limit breathability and retain more heat than many other mattress types we’ve tested.
In our objective temperature tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 92.1° F. This is 1.9° warmer than the average of 90.2° F, based on all of our tests to date.
After getting off the mattress, the temperature declined by 4.6 degrees from minutes 0 to 1, which is 0.2 degrees less cool than the average 0 to 1 minute decline of 4.8 degrees.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we consider the combination of objective data, my subjective experiences, and an analysis of the materials, I’m confident in my view that cooling is good.
Sinkage Test
The Bear Pro Foam has very deep sinkage. During our tests, we measured a pressure point sinkage depth of 2.63″. This is 0.38″ more sinkage than the average sinkage depth of 2.25″, based on all of our tests to date. The mattress creates a balanced body contouring hug.
This mattress uses a mix of quilted cover, memory foam, and poly foam. Those varied materials create a more balanced, even, and non-polarizing feel.
Sinkage Depth
2.63″
Sinkage Feel
Very Deep
Body Contour
Balanced
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The foams are highly responsive and easy to move around on. Lastly, it should be noted that while this mattress does have some body contouring hug, it is not the same type of exact, precise, and dramatic hug that many memory foam mattresses will have.
This isn’t good or bad, but it is a more specific feel, one you’ll need to prefer to enjoy the Bear Pro Foam.
Motion Transfer Test
The Bear Pro Foam has a moderate level of motion transfer. During our tests, we measured a total acceleration range of 10.19 m/s². This is 16% more motion transfer than the average of 8.80 m/s².
Accel. Range
10.19 m/s²
Motion Duration
0.71 seconds
This mattress benefits from the all-foam design, memory foam in the top layer, and a lower-than-average level of bounce. However, the majority of the materials are highly responsive polyurethane foams.
These foams spring back to shape quickly, which is great for ease of movement, but doesn’t do any favors for lowering motion.
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see the highest motion peaks from 0 to 0.2 seconds. Motion declines dramatically and immediately thereafter.
By 0.71 seconds we’ve returned to near zero levels of energy, which is 0.19 seconds shorter than the average motion duration of 0.90 seconds.
Motion Transfer Over Time

While motion intensity was slightly worse than average, motion duration is moderately better than average. All factors considered, this level of motion transfer is fine, but it’s also clear there is room for improvement.
Response Test
The Bear Pro Foam is a mixed bag for material responsiveness, with a very fast mostly recovered response time and a fast fully recovered response time.
Mostly Recovered
0.3 sec.
Fully Recovered
0.8 sec.
In our mostly recovered test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.3 seconds, which is 0.12 seconds faster than the average of 0.42 seconds, based on all of our tests to date. In our fully recovered responsiveness test, we measured a recovery speed of 0.8 seconds, which is 0.22 seconds faster than the average of 1.02 seconds.
Bear Pro Foam is equipped with one layer of memory foam and all other foam layers are poly foam. The poly foam layers are highly responsive, springing back to shape quickly.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
However, the memory foam layer is slightly slower and we see it slowing down the total mattress responsiveness speed slightly. Even so, both the mostly recovered and fully recovered responsiveness times are faster than average.
As a result, the mattress is incredibly easy to move around on.
Bounce Test
The Bear Pro Foam has a low level of bounce. During our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 7.04″. This is 1.64″ less bounce than the average of 8.68″, based on all of our tests to date.
Max. Depth
5.46″
Max. Rebound
1.58″
Total Bounce
7.04″
All-foam mattresses typically have less bounce and that’s exactly what we measured here with the Bear Pro Foam. Memory foam in particular greatly absorbs and disperses energy, resulting in lower bounce. This mattress is equipped with a 2.0” memory foam layer.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max. Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
While the other foams are highly responsive and resilient poly foams, they aren’t enough to push this mattress to a higher level of bounce.
The lower level of bounce is a major reason that motion transfer kept it at a more reasonable level. However, lower bounce is a double-edged sword, as it’s the primary reason that sex performance is worse than average.
Edge Support Test
The Bear Pro Foam has outstanding sitting edge support and excellent lying edge support.
Max. Sinkage
3.00″
Lying Support
Excellent
Reinforced Edge
No
In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.00″. This is 0.84″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 3.84″, based on all of our tests to date.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

While lying directly on the edge of the mattress, I felt that the support was excellent in all sleeping positions. Notably, this mattress is not equipped with reinforced edge support.
To be fair, reinforced edge support is fairly rare in all-foam mattresses, but especially at this price point. Despite the missing reinforced edge layers, the Bear Pro Foam doesn’t seem to miss them.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

We measured and experienced fantastic edge support for both sitting and lying. The combination of reasonable sinkage depth, medium-firm feel, and robust material quality creates the right conditions to deliver strong edge support.
Sex Test
The Bear Pro Foam has fair sex performance. On the positive side, noise is minimal and edge support is outstanding.

With just 3.00” of sitting edge sinkage, the edge is incredibly robust and as such is a usable and functional part of the mattress.
Moving on, pressure relief and cooling are both good enough. To be fair, they aren’t amazing, but still good enough to not be major detractors for sex.
| Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bounce | 65% | 6.9 | Low |
| Edge Support | 20% | 10 | Outstanding |
| Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
| Pressure Relief | 5% | 8.0 | Good |
| Cooling | 5% | 8.0 | Good |
Lastly, we have a bounce, which measured in at 7.04”. This is less bounce than average. The lower level of bounce makes this mattress more strenuous and tiring to have sex on.
The lower bounce is also the primary reason that we see the overall sex score notably worse than average.
To be fair, this is less of an issue with Bear Pro Foam specifically, and rather more generally a problem with most all-foam mattresses. Foam just doesn’t typically create a high level of bounce, which makes sex performance worse.
Pressure Relief Test
The Bear Pro Foam has a good level of pressure relief. During our tests, I felt no significant pressure points on my body. Even so, it’s also clear that pressure relief performance didn’t rise to the excellent or outstanding level.
Comfort Layer
6.50″
Support Layer
5.00″
The mattress is equipped with 6.5″ of comfort material, which is 2.16″ more comfort material than the average comfort layer thickness of 4.34″, based on all of our tests to date. Typically, when we see comfort layers this thick, we also see pressure relief earning excellent or outstanding scores.

However, I was less impressed with these foams. The memory foam comfort layer feels excellent, but the other poly foams are less so.
To be clear, I’d say they are still better than many other brands we’ve tested, but when we compare these foams and their resultant feel to other more expensive Bear mattresses we’ve tested (ex. Bear Elite, Bear Elite Ultra), it’s clear there is a significant difference.
The overall feel of this mattress is one of balance.

It’s a mattress that’s trying to create an even, non-polarizing feel that most sleepers will find comfortable enough. The mix of different foam types, in addition to a more limited quilted cover, creates this more balanced feel.
In our objective pressure mapping tests, we measured a max PSI of 0.41, which is well within the 1.0 PSI threshold that I ideally want to see.
Pressure Map – Side Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Side Sleepers | 0.09 | 0.41 |
Pressure Map – Back Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Back Sleepers | 0.06 | 0.33 |
Pressure Map – Stomach Sleepers

| Pressure Relief (PSI) | Average | Maximum |
|---|---|---|
| Stomach Sleepers | 0.07 | 0.29 |
When I consider our objective pressure mapping tests, material thickness, material quality, and my subjective experience on the mattress, I’m confident most sleepers will find the pressure relief to be good.
Off-Gassing Test
The Bear Pro Foam had a strong smell upon the initial unboxing. The mattress smelled for 2 days. This is 5.6 days shorter than the average smell duration of 7.6 days.

Comparing 117+ brands tested to date, the average trial period is 192 nights, 72 nights more than Bear offers. It also has a lifetime warranty, a benefit only offered by 40% of mattresses that we’ve tested.

How firm is Bear Pro Foam?
The Bear Pro Foam is only available in a single firmness option—Medium-Firm. Based on our experience with the mattress, I concur with this firmness description.

On a numerical scale, the mattress has a 6 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm. I found the mattress has a medium-firm feel.
Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Bear Pro Foam is good. During our tests, I felt well supported in all sleeping positions. While support is fine, it’s also clear it’s not incredible.
| Support Factor | Data |
|---|---|
| Comfort Layer | 6.50″ |
| Support Layer | 5.00″ |
| Firmness | Medium-Firm |
| Body Contour | Balanced |
| Zoned Support | No |
| Reinforced Edge | No |
The mattress is equipped with a 5.0″ support layer. This is 2.95″ thinner than the average support layer thickness of 7.95″, based on all of our tests to date. For a mattress to create ideal support, it needs to achieve two major requirements.
First up, it needs to create a neutral spinal alignment, thereby reducing pressure points. Second, it needs enough comfort and pressure relief. The Bear Pro Foam meets both of these criteria without any major issues.

This mattress has a medium-firm feel, which is 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale. This firmness works well for the vast majority of sleepers and all sleeping positions.
Check out the table below to see the sleeper weights and sleeping positions that would be best suited for this mattress.
| Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleeper | Side Sleeper | Back Sleeper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| 150-250 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
| 250-300 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
In all mattress tests, we make it a point to cut the mattress open and assess the material quality. In doing so, I’m generally pleased with what I see. The foams look and feel high quality, both on the body and in-hand.
That said, when we look at the foam densities, we see density levels that leave something to be desired. To be fair, these are about what we expect for a mattress at this price point. And yet, to see a memory foam at a 2.4 PCF and a core poly foam at a 1.5 PCF is far from ideal.

In my view, it’s these more limited density levels that are creating a more limited pressure relief dynamic (which we discuss more fully in the pressure relief section). Lastly, this mattress does not use any type of zoned support. Instead, we have a consistent level of support and firmness from head to foot of the mattress
Based on all of my tests to date, an analysis of the materials, and my subjective experiences, I’m confident that most sleepers will find support on the Bear Pro Foam excellent.

The Cover
The Bear Pro Foam has a 1.50″ quilted cover. It has a plush finish and is infused with Celliant cooling fibers. Celliant is designed to pull heat away from the body and limit heat retention while sleeping.

The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer is 6.50″ thick and made of two layers of foam. Below the 1.5″ quilted cover is a 2.0″ memory foam layer followed by a 3.0″ transitional poly foam.

These foam layers work with the quilted cover to provide comfort and transitional support as sleepers engage more deeply with the Bear Pro Foam mattress.
The Support Layer
The support layer is 5.00″ thick and made of a single 5.0″ support foam (pink foam). This is thinner than the standard support layer, but given the trade-off of the thicker comfort layer, the thickness still seems to work.

Product Evolution
The Bear Pro Foam mattress launched in early 2025, replacing the older Bear Pro memory foam mattress. Since its release, there have been no notable changes made to the Bear Pro Foam mattress.
