Our Verdict
Saatva and Tempurpedic are both well-known luxury mattress brands, but are opposites in many ways. Tempurpedic has stuck with their iconic memory foam mattresses, which now include memory foam hybrids. Saatva mattresses include the entire gamut of designs, including coil, memory foam, hybrids, memory foam hybrids, latex hybrids, plus-sized, and adjustable designs.
For firmness and feel, Tempurpedic leans a bit more firm, with options ranging from medium (5) to firm (8), where 10 is the most firm. Saatva has a slightly wider range, from soft (4) to firm (8).
When it comes to price, Saatva is the more expensive brand, if we only consider mattresses that we’ve personally tested. Across the 7 Saatva mattresses tested, they have an average queen price of $2,698. Meanwhile, Tempurpedic mattresses have an average price of $2,174. That being said, Tempurpedic has an extensive selection of luxury models that we have not yet tested. Tempurpedic collections (queen price listed) include the Cloud ($1,999), Adapt ($2,199), Breeze ($4,399), and ActiveBreeze ($10,398). If we consider all of these collections, the Tempurpedic lineup is clearly more expensive.
When it comes to performance, Saatva is unquestionably the higher-performing brand over Tempurpedic. Across the brand, Saatva mattresses have an average performance score of 9.24, while Tempurpedic mattresses have an average score of 7.70. For reference, the average score is 8.52.
Overall, Saatva has a much wider range of options that should have a model to fit almost every type of sleeper, with one exception: budget. Saatva’s price most likely puts it out of reach of many who can’t stretch to their lowest-priced model at $1,795. Choosing Tempurpedic will probably come down to an extreme preference for their unique, memory foam feel.

Which Mattress Should You Buy?
The mattresses earning the title for “best overall” from each brand have the highest overall performance. Overall performance is determined by scores from 8 different categories including cooling, motion transfer, response time, edge support, sex performance, pressure relief, off-gassing, and company.
Sinkage and bounce are also taken into consideration, but they are not direct scoring factors.
Between Saatva and Tempurpedic, the two top recommendations are Saatva Classic and Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid.
Best Saatva
Saatva Classic

Type: Coil
Firmness: Soft (4), Medium-Firm (6), Firm (8)
The Saatva Classic is an 11.5-14.5″ coil mattress made of foam-encased coils sitting on top of 4-7″ pocketed coils and topped with a plush, euro-style cover. It comes in soft, medium-firm, and firm feels with deep sinkage and extremely high bounce. Its 9.68 review score is the second-highest score we’ve seen to date. It earned a 10/10 in cooling, edge support, pressure relief, and off-gassing, which makes it an excellent choice for those who can afford its $1,795 price (21% more expensive than the average mattress).
Best Tempurpedic
Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid

Type: Memory Foam Hybrid
Firmness: Medium-Firm (6)
The Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid is an 11″ memory foam hybrid mattress sold exclusively at Costco. It’s made of two layers of memory foam, a pocketed coil unit, a support form layer, and topped with a thin, cooling cover. It has a medium-firm feel with very deep sinkage and very low bounce. Its 7.92 performance score and $1,999 place it within the bottom 14% of all mattresses tested to date, while being 34% more expensive than average. It achieved excellent scores in cooling, motion transfer, and pressure relief, making it a great option for sleepers of all sleeping positions and most body weights.
The Saatva Classic and Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid are extremely different in terms of design, firmness, and performance.
First and foremost, the performance score of the Saatva Classic is the second-highest we’ve seen across 390+ mattresses reviewed to date. Meanwhile, the Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid has a score that is among the bottom 14%. This disparity looks worse when you factor in price.
Both mattresses are priced around the same luxury tier, with the Classic being $200 less expensive at $1,795 over the Supreme Hybrid’s $1,999. However, both mattresses come with white-glove delivery for no extra charge. This is a company-wide policy on Saatva’s part, while it’s Costco that throws this perk in for the Supreme and Supreme Hybrid only.
The Tempurpedic has its merits, especially for its low motion transfer, excellent cooling, and fantastic pressure relief. But the Saatva Classic is even better in all these areas without nearly as many trade-offs.

Firmness
Looking at all available mattresses we’ve tested, Saatva ranges in firmness from 4 to 8 out of 10, and Tempurpedic mattresses range from 5 to 8 out of 10.
This means that Tempurpedic isn’t a great option for those wanting a particularly soft feel. Medium (5) is a touch softer than the standard medium-firm (6), and it’s as soft as the brand gets.
Saatva has a few soft (4) options and multiple slightly firm (7) and firm (8) options. It also has the Saatva Solaire, which offers real-time, adjustable firmness that ranges from 4 to 8. It’s also the best-performing adjustable model we’ve tested to date.
Check the table below to see the details of each mattress.
| Firmness | Rating | Feel |
|---|---|---|
| Saatva Classic | 4, 6, 8 | Soft, Medium-Firm, Firm |
| Saatva Contour5 | 6, 8 | Medium-Firm, Firm |

| Tempurpedic Supreme (Costco Only) | 6, 8 | Medium-Firm, Firm |
| Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid (Costco Only) | 6 | Medium-Firm |
Not sure which firmness you need? Your ideal mattress firmness depends on two major factors—sleeping position and body weight. With the right firmness, your body and spine will maintain proper alignment when sleeping.

Lightweight sleepers or those who sleep on their side tend to need a softer mattress. By comparison, heavier sleepers or those who sleep on their back or stomach tend to need more support and a firmer feel.

Cooling Test
Starting with cooling performance, Saatva comes out on top. Its three models earned an average cooling score of 9.3, and Tempurpedic’s three models earned an average cooling score of 8.0.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding cooling.
| Cooling Test | Score | Baseline | Max. Temp. | Ending Temp. |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Saatva Classic | 10 | 77.5° | 88.6° | 79.7° |
| Saatva Latex Hybrid | 9.0 | 77.9° | 91.0° | 82.6° |

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (after 5 minutes) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
Below, you can watch a video of how the heat dissipates on each mattress during our cooling test. For this test, we lie on the mattress for 15 minutes, get off the mattress, and then take periodic surface-level temperature measurements.
Saatva Classic
Tempurpedic Cloud
Saatva Latex Hybrid
Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid
Saatva RX
Tempurpedic Pro Adapt
The average cooling score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.6. Compared to this, Tempurpedic has below-average cooling, while Saatva mattresses perform well-above average.
Among all 6 models, the Saatva Classic has the best cooling performance at a perfect 10/10. This can be explained by its coil-heavy design, as there’s much less foam material to build and retain heat.

The best Tempurpedic model was the Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid, which earned an excellent score of 9/10. This is achieved with a mix of its hybrid design and limited memory foam layer (2.5″). Models like the Pro Adapt have significantly more foam that can retain heat and create a warm sensation.
Classic or dense memory foam, like the Tempurpedic models appear to have (they did not share their specific density with us), tends to struggle with breathing well and build up heat more intensely.
Overall, it’s rare for a memory foam mattress or memory foam hybrid, like the Tempurpedic models, to have outstanding cooling performance. So if that’s your primary concern, Saatva is the better choice.
Sinkage Test
Sinkage is a preferential factor, so there is no objective winner between Saatva and Tempurpedic. However, the sinkage depth can inform the type of general feel a mattress has and what sleeping positions it may be suitable for.
The Saatva models have an average sinkage depth of 2.10″, with the full range from minimal to moderate to deep.
The three Tempurpedic models offer the same sort of range, but with even more extreme sinkage levels on either end.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding sinkage.
| Sinkage Test | Sinkage Feel | Sinkage Depth |
|---|---|---|
| Saatva Classic | Deep | 2.40″ |
| Saatva Latex Hybrid | Minimal | 1.85″ |
| Saatva RX | Moderate | 2.05″ |
| Tempurpedic Cloud | Moderate | 2.11″ |
| Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid (Costco Only) | Very Deep | 2.69″ |
| Tempurpedic Pro Adapt | Minimal | 1.73″ |
The level of sinkage for each mattress is documented in the images below.
Saatva Classic

Tempurpedic Cloud

Saatva Latex Hybrid

Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid

Saatva RX

Tempurpedic Pro Adapt

For reference, the average sinkage depth across all mattresses tested to date is 2.21″.
Back and stomach sleepers usually prefer less sinkage, which better maintains proper alignment of their spine. The Saatva Latex Hybrid (1.85″), Saatva RX (2.05″), Tempurpedic Cloud (2.11″), and Tempurpedic Pro Adapt (1.73″) all have less sinkage than average and would be best suited for back or stomach sleeping.

On the other hand, side sleepers generally enjoy a deeper level of sinkage, as that typically translates to better pressure relief and contour. For deeper sinkage, opt for the Saatva Classic (2.40″) or the Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid (2.69″).
Are you over 300 lbs.? Heavier sleepers generally need a mattress with a firmer feel to maintain optimal support. The Saatva HD mattress is the only model between the two brands specifically designed for and marketed to heavy people. Within Tempurpedic, the Pro Adapt is the best option.
Motion Transfer Test
When it comes to motion transfer, Tempurpedic has the upper hand, and this is a category in which they heavily pride themselves in their marketing.
The Tempurpedic models earned an average motion transfer score of 9.1, with scores ranging from 8.7 to 9.5.
The Saatva models earned an average score of 9.0, with a wider range of performance from 7.4 to 10.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding motion transfer.
| Motion Transfer Test | Score | Acc. Range |
|---|---|---|
| Saatva Classic | 9.6 | 5.86 m/s² |
| Saatva Latex Hybrid | 10 | 3.13 m/s² |
| Saatva RX | 7.4 | 10.76 m/s² |
| Tempurpedic Cloud | 8.7 | 7.88 m/s² |
| Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid (Costco Only) | 9.0 | 7.13 m/s² |
| Tempurpedic Pro Adapt | 9.5 | 6.13 m/s² |
The level of motion transfer on each mattress is also documented in the videos below.
Saatva Classic
Tempurpedic Cloud
Saatva Latex Hybrid
Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid
Saatva RX
Tempurpedic Pro Adapt
The average motion transfer score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.2.
By this metric, both Saatva and Tempurpedic are excellent choices in terms of low motion transfer. Having said that, Saatva makes the best overall model with their Saatva Latex Hybrid.
The Tempurpedic mattresses have a more consistent low level of motion transfer, but don’t quite reach the level recorded on the Saatva Latex Hybrid. The Tempurpedic Pro Adapt had the lowest motion transfer recorded, as it is your best bet to reduce the chance of waking your partner with movement during the night.
Response Test
When it comes to response time, we place a weighted ball on each mattress, remove it, and measure the time it takes to reform back to its original shape. Here, Tempurpedic is one of the slowest responding brands we’ve tested to date.
The three Tempurpedic models we tested each earned a score of 5.0 out of 10. Meanwhile, the Saatva models earned an average score of 9.5, with their lowest score being an 8.7.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding response.
| Response Test | Score | Mostly Recovered | Completely Recovered |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saatva Classic | 8.7 | 0.4 seconds | 0.8 seconds |
| Saatva Latex Hybrid | 10 | 0.2 seconds | 0.3 seconds |
| Saatva RX | 9.8 | 0.2 seconds | 0.5 seconds |
| Tempurpedic Cloud | 5.0 | 3.8 seconds | 8.0 seconds |
| Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid (Costco Only) | 5.0 | 1.7 seconds | 3.3 seconds |
| Tempurpedic Pro Adapt | 5.0 | 2.5 seconds | 5.5 seconds |
The level of responsiveness for each mattress is documented in the videos below.
Saatva Classic
Tempurpedic Cloud
Saatva Latex Hybrid
Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid
Saatva RX
Tempurpedic Pro Adapt
The average response score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.8. By this measure, the Saatva mattresses are average to well-above average in terms of material response.
The feel and experience of Tempurpedic mattresses is largely due to their distinct memory foam. In terms of material speed, it’s one of the slowest materials on the market.

This is essentially the trade-off of having such an intense, classic memory foam feel. Many sleepers may prefer this feel, but they will have to put up with a noticeable “stuck” feeling when attempting to shift positions or move around the mattress.
If you want to avoid feeling stuck and enjoy a lively surface to your mattress, Saatva is the clear choice over Tempurpedic.
Bounce Test
Speaking of a lively surface, let’s talk about bounce. This is another preferential factor that sleepers can use to zero in on their preferred feel. When it comes to bounce, the difference between Saatva and Tempurpedic couldn’t be more extreme.
We measured an average bounce height of 11.92″ across the three Saatva mattresses, with measurements ranging from high (10.82″) to extremely high (14.67″).
On the other hand, Tempurpedic mattresses have extremely low bounce. On average, their three mattresses had a bounce height of 4.94″, with every model measuring in the “very low” range.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding bounce.
| Bounce Test | Bounce Feel | Bounce Height |
|---|---|---|
| Saatva Classic | Extremely High | 14.67″ |
| Saatva Latex Hybrid | High | 10.82″ |
| Saatva RX | High | 10.28″ |
| Tempurpedic Cloud | Very Low | 4.47″ |
| Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid | Very Low | 5.78″ |
| Tempurpedic Pro Adapt | Very Low | 4.56″ |
The level of bounce for each mattress is documented in the videos below.
Saatva Classic
Tempurpedic Cloud
Saatva Latex Hybrid
Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid
Saatva RX
Tempurpedic Pro Adapt
The average bounce across all mattresses tested to date is 8.75″.
All Saatva mattresses have more bounce than average, but the Saatva Classic is especially bouncy at 14.67″. At this level, I wouldn’t be surprised if some sleepers found it too bouncy and trampoline-like. Its design is made up of more coils than the average mattress, and it certainly shows here.
More normal levels of bounce are found on the Saatva Latex Hybrid and the Saatva RX mattress.
Tempurpedic mattresses are, again, heavily impacted by their memory foam design. While coils are springy, foam is very effective at dissipating energy. The Tempurpedic Cloud and Tempurpedic Pro Adapt are both all-foam models, and their lower bounce measurements demonstrate this principle.

The Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid has the most bounce among the brand, due to its pocketed coil unit, but it’s still in the “very low” range. If a good level of bounce is something important to you, go with a Saatva. If a cozier, less lively mattress is what you’re looking for, go with a Tempurpedic.
Mattresses with more bounce are better for ease of movement and increase sex performance. However, higher bounce also typically creates a higher level of motion transfer. So there are pros and cons when it comes to bounce.
Edge Support Test
Next, let’s talk about edge support. We measure the compression while sitting on the edge of each mattress and assess the level of support while lying. For edge support, Saatva takes another win over Tempurpedic.
The Saatva models earned an average edge support score of 9.7. with scores ranging from 9.2 to 10.
Tempurpedic edge support scores averaged an 8.1 and ranged from 7.4 to 8.5. A large part of their lower score comes from a lack of laying support.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding edge support.
| Edge Support Test | Score | Sitting Sinkage | Lying Support |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saatva Classic | 10 | 3.00″ | Outstanding |
| Saatva Latex Hybrid | 10 | 3.00″ | Outstanding |
| Saatva RX | 9.2 | 3.50″ | Excellent |
| Tempurpedic Cloud | 7.4 | 4.75″ | Fair |
| Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid (Costco Only) | 8.5 | 2.75″ | Fair |
| Tempurpedic Pro Adapt | 8.4 | 3.25″ | Fair |
The level of edge support is documented in the images below.
Saatva Classic

Tempurpedic Cloud

Saatva Latex Hybrid

Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid

Saatva RX

Tempurpedic Pro Adapt

The average edge support score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.7. By this measure, all of the Tempurpedic models have less-than-average edge support, while all Saatva models excel compared to the average.
The lying support especially separates these two brands. A major component that helps with edge support is a reinforced edge, which the Tempurpedic Cloud and Pro Adapt models do not have. The Cloud model is especially poor. At only 10″ thick, nearly half of the material compresses while sitting at the edge.

The Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid, along with all three Saatva models, has reinforced edge support via thicker coils or dense(r) support foam around their perimeter. In the Supreme’s case, it’s a dense support foam that extends 4″ deep on the outside of the coil unit.
Across the board, Saatva has much better lying edge support, which effectively increases the amount of usable sleeping area on your mattress. Up next, we’ll explain how sitting edge support is good for more than putting your socks on in the morning.
Sex Test
To measure sex performance, we use a weighted formula that includes scores of bounce, edge support, noise, pressure relief, and cooling.
For sex, Saatva is the far superior mattress brand over Tempurpedic. Their mattresses earned an average performance score of 9.5, with scores ranging from 9.1 to 9.9. Tempurpedic models earned an average sex score of 6.8, with the highest score being 7.4.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding sex.
| Sex Test | Sex Score | Bounce | Edge Support | Noise | Pressure Relief | Cooling |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Saatva Classic | 9.9 | 10 | 10 | 8.0 | 10 | 10 |
| Saatva Latex Hybrid | 9.4 | 9.3 | 10 | 10 | 9.0 | 9.0 |
| Saatva RX | 9.1 | 8.9 | 9.4 | 10 | 10 | 9.0 |
| Tempurpedic Cloud | 6.4 | 5.3 | 7.8 | 10 | 9.0 | 8.0 |

| Tempurpedic Pro Adapt | 6.7 | 5.3 | 9.7 | 10 | 10 | 7.0 |
For reference, the average sex score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.2.
Bounce is the heaviest weighted factor in our formula, as it helps maintain momentum during amorous activities. Tempurpedic models simply don’t have a lot of bounce; thus, they won’t be a big help in that department.

The coil unit in the Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid mitigates the more dead feeling from the memory foam, but it’s still going to be less helpful than the average mattress.
As we discussed, the Saatva Classic is extremely bouncy, but the one drawback is a noisier experience (from the mattress at least). Even still, the Saatva Latex Hybrid and Saatva RX should not disappoint couples when it comes to the dance without pants.
Pressure Relief Test
When it comes to pressure relief, this is one of Tempurpedic’s best performance categories. However, Saatva still edges them out as the better brand.
The three popular Saatva models earned an average pressure relief score of 9.7, with a range from 9.0 to 10. The three popular Tempurpedic models earned an average score of 9.3, with the same 9.0 to 10 range.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding pressure relief.
| Pressure Relief Test | Score | Comfort Layer | Support Layer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saatva Classic | 10 | 4.50″ | 7.00″ |
| Saatva Latex Hybrid | 9.0 | 4.00″ | 8.00″ |
| Saatva RX | 10 | 6.00″ | 9.00″ |
| Tempurpedic Cloud | 9.0 | 3.00″ | 7.00″ |
| Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid | 9.0 | 2.50″ | 8.50″ |
| Tempurpedic Pro Adapt | 10 | 3.50″ | 8.50″ |
The average pressure relief score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.6. Compared to this, both Saatva and Tempurpedic mattresses are well-above average when it comes to pressure relief.
The highest-scoring Tempurpedic model that scored a 10/10 was the Pro Adapt. Notably, this is a $3,400 mattress – a price tier well out of range of most sleepers. While we don’t have the exact density of each layer, Tempurpedic is well-known for their high-quality memory foam.

The Saatva Classic achieves this same 10/10 pressure relief score for half the price. The Saatva RX also matches this performance level, and it has one of the more complex designs, which includes microcoils and a unique foam cube layer. Both of these design features go a long way to provide a comfortable yet nuanced transition from plush comfort to effective support.
The materials included in each mattress are documented in the images below.

As the above examples demonstrate, a thicker design typically translates to better pressure relief performance. Tempurpedic is somewhat of an exception, as their mattresses are thinner than average, and they still have excellent to outstanding pressure relief. That comes down to efficient, high-quality memory foam.
When it comes down to pure comfort and reducing the risk for pressure point build-up, both Saatva and Tempurpedic are among the best brands from which to choose. But dollar-to-dollar, Saatva comes out a little ahead.
Off-Gassing Test
Next, let’s discuss the smell duration and intensity of each mattress upon initial unpacking. Both Saatva and Tempurpedic models typically come uncompressed and in a bag. The one exception among these 6 models is the Tempurpedic Cloud, which comes in a box.
For Saatva, this results in no smell experienced by the customer, even when just opening the bag. For Tempurpedic, their models had a strong initial smell and a long duration to get rid of it.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding off-gassing.
| Off-Gassing Test | Score | Initial Smell | Smell Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Saatva Classic | 10 | None | 0 days |
| Saatva Latex Hybrid | 10 | None | 0 days |
| Saatva RX | 10 | None | 0 days |
| Tempurpedic Cloud | 8.1 | Strong | 7 days |
| Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid | 4.4 | Strong | 20 days |
| Tempurpedic Pro Adapt | 7.8 | Strong | 8 days |
The average smell duration across all mattresses tested to date is 7.13 days.
Based on this, the Tempurpedic models took from an average length to nearly 3X the average to complete off-gassing. In the case of the Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid, that’s a long time for a new, excited sleeper to put up with unpleasant synthetic odor.

Without having to dive into measurements or details, Saatva is the clear choice for those sensitive to the smells that come with new mattresses. For Tempurpedic, the long smell duration is, unfortunately, another trade-off with memory foam models.
Company
Finally, let’s discuss the broad company policies that may influence your decision when purchasing a mattress from Saatva or Tempurpedic.
Saatva offers sleepers a 365-night trial period, a lifetime warranty, free shipping, but not free returns. There is a $99 fee to initiate a return of any Saatva mattress, which acts as a frustrating barrier for customers shopping in an age where free returns are not an unreasonable expectation.
One nice perk from Saatva is their free white-glove delivery service that offers customers free in-home delivery, set-up, and removal of your old mattress.

Tempurpedic’s policies vary based on whether you buy them from Tempurpedic directly, or, in the Supreme’s case, from Costco. But each source has their trade-offs.
When you order from Tempurpedic directly, they offer a 90-night trial period, a 10-year warranty, free shipping, and a large return fee of $175.
When you order Tempurpedic from Costco, it’s a different story.
Costco mattresses are backed by a “100% Satisfaction Guarantee,” meaning you can return the mattress after any amount of time and for any reason. The only caveat is that the mattresses must be clean and free of any bed bugs. Dirty mattresses will not be accepted for return.
All that said, this is not the same as a trial period. When purchased from Costco, Tempurpedic does not provide a trial period separate from Costco. And in our chats with Costco customer service they made it clear that Costco does not provide any trial period for their mattresses.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding company policies.
| Company | Saatva | Tempurpedic | Tempurpedic Costco |
|---|---|---|---|
| Score | 8.8 | 6.4 | 6.6 |
| Trial Period | 365 nights | 90 nights | 0 nights |
| Warranty | Lifetime | 10 years | 10 Years |
| Shipping | $0 | $0 | $0 |
| Returns | $99 | $175 | $0 |
| Country of Origin | USA | USA | USA |
To date, we have tested 397+ mattresses from 106 different brands. The average trial length is 172 nights, and the average warranty is 13 years, excluding 41% of mattresses that offer lifetime warranties.
Altogether, the return fees aren’t ideal for consumers. However, Saatva’s return fee is less, and their other policies are among the most consumer-friendly we’ve seen to date.
