Our Verdict
In the matchup of Saatva vs. Nectar, we’re essentially comparing coils vs. memory foam. While both brands do offer hybrid blends, these mattresses are very different.
Saatva specializes in coil-based mattresses, with a coil-on-coil classic mattress as well as a hybrid mattress that combines coils and foam. Saatva has a luxury feel with a plush, Euro cover, and better edge support.
Nectar uses a blend of foams and their mattresses definitely lean towards the more classic memory foam feel with high contour, more hug, and lower levels of bounce. In 2022, Nectar launched a collection of hybrid mattresses, which nthe memory foam feel with the addition of high-performance coils.

Saatva vs. Nectar: Which Is the Winner?
The table below shows which of these mattresses is the winner in each scoring category we test for.
Factor | Winner | Score |
---|---|---|
Best Overall | Saatva Classic | 9.74 |
Best Cooling | Saatva Classic, Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid | 10 |
Most Sinkage | Saatva Classic | 2.40″ |
Least Sinkage | Nectar Hybrid | 1.70″ |
Lowest Motion Transfer | Nectar Original, Nectar Premier, Nectar Premier Copper | 10 |
Fastest Response Time | Nectar Premier Copper | 9.4 |
Most Bounce | Saatva Classic | 14.67″ |
Least Bounce | Nectar Original | 4.76″ |
Best Edge Support | Saatva Classic | 10 |
Best for Sex | Saatva Classic | 9.9 |
Best Pressure Relief | Saatva Classic | 10 |
Least Off-Gassing | Saatva Classic, Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid | 10 |
Best Company | Saatva | 9.4 |
For the best overall, Saatva takes gold here, with a score of 9.49 out of 10. This is tied with the top-scoring mattresses we’ve tested to date.
What mattress has the best cooling?
Saatva takes the win for best cooling as well, where the coils really helped to maximize airflow. Memory foam sometimes has a bad rap for heat retention so I wasn’t too surprised by these results (considering Nectar’s use of memory foam).
What mattress has the deepest level of sinkage?
The mattress with the most sinkage was the Saatva Classic at 2.4″. This is likely due to the plusher cover and deeper hug within the top layer.
For comparison, the Nectar Hybrid came in at the opposite end of the spectrum with the least amount of sinkage—1.7″.
What mattress had the lowest level of motion transfer?
The Nectar Premier Copper had the lowest level of motion transfer at 1.88 m/s². This mattress has layers of memory foam and skips the coils. These two design factors alone are huge contributors to the Premier Copper’s ability to absorb motion.
What mattress had the fastest response time?
For the fastest response time, we have a multi-tie between the following mattresses:
The lesson here is that coils = faster response when considering response time.
Among these two brands, the mattress with the slowest response time is the all-foam Nectar Original which has a response time of 3.0 sec. This is significantly slower than the responses of the hybrid models.
What mattress has the most bounce?
The mattress with the most bounce is the Saatva Classic, hands down. This mattress has over 3X the level of bounce compared to Nectar.
What mattress has the best edge support?
The Saatva Classic has the best edge support, only having 3.0″ of sinkage when sitting directly at the edge. All other mattresses had more edge sinkage than that, ranging from 3.5″ up to a whopping 7.25″ (looking at you, Nectar Premier).
What mattress is best for sex?
Specifically concerning sex performance, it’s Saatva Classic again, with the win. This mattress strikes a fantastic balance of high bounce, good edge support, good pressure relief, and excellent cooling.
Cooling Test
Looking at the cooling performance of these mattresses, Saatva took the win with the highest score, followed by the Nectar hybrids, and then the Nectar all-foam.
Cooling Test | Score | Baseline | Max Temp | Ending Temp |
---|---|---|---|---|
Saatva Classic | 10 | 81.4° | 94.0° | 90.1° |
Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid | 10 | 78.0° | 89.4° | 81.3° |
Nectar Hybrid | 9.0 | 79.6° | 88.8° | 82.0° |
Nectar Hybrid Premier | 9.0 | 80.4° | 89.0° | 82.4° |
Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper | 9.0 | 80.5° | 89.3° | 84.1° |
Nectar Original | 8.0 | 83.0° | 90.6° | 85.0° |
Nectar Premier | 9.0 | 80.7° | 90.5° | 86.6° |
Nectar Premier Copper | 9.0 | 84.4° | 90.6° | 87.2° |
When considering cooling, coils are king. A coil mattress will almost always be cooler than an all-foam mattress.
Mattress Type | Cooling Performance |
---|---|
All coil | Best |
Hybrid (coil + foam) | Better |
All foam | Good |
So even though Saatva uses a plusher, Euro-style cover and has deeper sinkage, it still has better cooling performance than the memory foam Nectars.

Sinkage Test
Considering sinkage, there is a wide range of levels between Saatva and Nectar.
Sinkage Test | Sinkage Feel | Sinkage Depth |
---|---|---|
Saatva Classic | Deep | 2.40″ |
Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid | Minimal | 1.88″ |
Nectar Hybrid | Minimal | 1.70″ |
Nectar Hybrid Premier | Deep | 2.35″ |
Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper | Minimal | 1.99″ |
Nectar Original | Moderate | 2.03″ |
Nectar Premier | Moderate | 2.23″ |
Nectar Premier Copper | Moderate | 2.22″ |
For reference, the average level of sinkage across all mattresses tested to date is 2.20″.
The Nectar Original, Nectar Hybrid, Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper, and Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid all have less sinkage than the average.
The Nectar Hybrid Premier, Nectar Premier (all-foam), and Nectar Premier Copper (all-foam) are all at the average level.
For deep sinkage, opt for the Saatva Classic which has more sinkage than average.
Images below show the level of sinkage for each mattress.

Sinkage is a bit of a preferential factor, but still important to consider. Less sinkage sometimes equates to more of a floating feel, while more sinkage can provide a deeper hug and contour. More contour is often beneficial for side sleepers to help with pressure relief and support.
Motion Transfer
Motion transfer is another category that is a bit of a mixed bag. Both brands have mattresses that do really well with limiting motion transfer and some that really don’t manage motion well at all.
Motion Transfer Test | Score | Acc. Range |
---|---|---|
Saatva Classic | 9.6 | 5.86 m/s² |
Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid | 7.7 | 10.11 m/s² |
Nectar Hybrid | 6.0 | 14.00 m/s² |
Nectar Hybrid Premier | 5.6 | 14.73 m/s² |
Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper | 7.7 | 10.04 m/s² |
Nectar Original | 10 | 2.67 m/s² |
Nectar Premier | 10 | 2.80 m/s² |
Nectar Premier Copper | 10 | 1.88 m/s² |
The average amount of motion transfer, based on all of our tests to date, is 5.83 m/s².
The all-foam Nectar mattresses all had great performance, with motion transfer levels that were well below average. This includes the Nectar Original, Nectar Premier, and Nectar Premier Copper.
The Saatva Classic was about average with 5.86 m/s².
All of the hybrids from both brands really struggled here, including the Nectar Hybrid, Nectar Hybrid Premier, Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper, and the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid. These mattresses had over 2X the level of motion transfer compared to the average and the Hybrid Premier and Premier Copper had almost 3X.
The videos below show how motion is transferred across each mattress.
Saatva Classic Motion Transfer

On the Saatva Classic, motion transfer has peaks initially, but very quickly drops down back to near zero levels. Very impressive performance for a coil-on-coil mattress.
Nectar Original Motion Transfer

The Nectar Original had an initial spike, but the spike is about half of what the Saatva Classic experienced. And Nectar does a much better job of absorbing energy and containing that motion.
Nectar Premier Motion Transfer

On the Nectar Premier, the motion levels from the initial drop were even lower than the Nectar Original and the motion that did transfer was absorbed into the mattress by 0.3 seconds. This is very fast and gives the Nectar Premier a great performance score.
Nectar Premier Copper Motion Transfer

On the Premier Copper, there was even less energy at the initial drop (compared to the Premier), and the energy dissipated around the 0.8-second mark.
Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Motion Transfer

The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid had very high levels of motion.
Energy levels at the initial drop were roughly 4X the levels of the all-foam Nectars. And that motion had high levels of transfer, resonating across the mattress for over 1.25 seconds.
Nectar Hybrid Transfer

The Nectar Hybrid had 8X the level of energy transferred at the initial ball drop (compared to all-foam Nectars). This is a high level of motion intensity and a longer motion duration.
Nectar Hybrid Premier Motion Transfer

The Nectar Hybrid Premier is a similar story to the Nectar Hybrid—high levels of energy from the initial drop and motion transfer for over a full second.
Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper Motion Transfer Test

The Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper was the best among all Nectar Hybrids. At the initial drop, most energy levels were more restrained (though still not great) and the energy was absorbed by 0.77 seconds.
Response Test
Between Nectar vs. Saatva response time was extremely fast among all mattresses except for the Nectar Original and the Nectar Hybrid. All 6 other mattresses scored a perfect 10, with faster response times than average.
Response Test | Score | Mostly Recovered | Completely Recovered |
---|---|---|---|
Saatva Classic | 8.7 | 0.4 seconds | 0.8 seconds |
Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid | 9.0 | 0.3 seconds | 1.0 seconds |
Nectar Hybrid | 5.0 | 2.5 seconds | 6.8 seconds |
Nectar Hybrid Premier | 9.1 | 0.3 seconds | 0.8 seconds |
Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper | 9.2 | 0.3 seconds | 0.7 seconds |
Nectar Original | 5.0 | 3.0 seconds | 5.0 seconds |
Nectar Premier | 8.7 | 0.4 seconds | 0.8 seconds |
Nectar Premier Copper | 9.4 | 0.3 seconds | 0.5 seconds |
Average response time across all mattresses that we’ve tested to date is 0.56 seconds to be mostly recovered and 0.94 seconds to be fully recovered.
Every mattress had a faster response time than average, except for the Nectar Original and the Nectar Hybrid, which took between 2.5 – 6.8 seconds to recover.
You can see these material responses in real time in the video below.

Bounce Test
Bounce has a wide range between Nectar and Saatva. Depending on your personal preference, there is likely a mattress that will work for you.
Bounce Test | Bounce Feel | Bounce Height |
---|---|---|
Saatva Classic | Extremely High | 14.67″ |
Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid | Extremely High | 14.06″ |
Nectar Hybrid | Moderate | 8.83″ |
Nectar Hybrid Premier | Very High | 13.11″ |
Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper | Moderate | 9.30″ |
Nectar Original | Very Low | 4.76″ |
Nectar Premier | Low | 7.10″ |
Nectar Premier Copper | Very Low | 5.14″ |
The average amount of bounce across all mattresses tested to date is 9.35″.
For the lowest level of bounce, the Nectar Original or Nectar Premier Copper had between 4-5″ of bounce (about 1/2 the average) with the Nectar Premier not far behind at 7.1″.
For moderate bounce, the Nectar Hybrid and Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper came in between 8-9″ and were right about average.
For very high bounce, the Nectar Hybrid Premier had slightly over 13″ of bounce.
And for the highest level of bounce, Saatva takes the win, with over 14″ of bounce on both their Saatva Classic and Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid.
Bounce levels can also be viewed in real time via the short video clips below.

Edge Support Test
Moving right along, let’s talk about edge support. Saatva had better edge support than Nectar in most cases, but there were a few Nectar models that did better than others.
Edge Support Test | Score | Sitting Sinkage | Lying Support |
---|---|---|---|
Saatva Classic | 10 | 3.00″ | Outstanding |
Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid | 9.7 | 3.50″ | Outstanding |
Nectar Hybrid | 8.7 | 3.50″ | Good |
Nectar Hybrid Premier | 8.2 | 4.25″ | Good |
Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper | 9.6 | 3.75″ | Outstanding |
Nectar Original | 6.0 | 6.25″ | Mediocre |
Nectar Premier | 6.4 | 7.25″ | Good |
Nectar Premier Copper | 7.5 | 6.25″ | Excellent |
The average level of sinkage (when sitting right at the edge of the mattress) is 4.67″.
Both Saatva mattresses, the Saatva Classic and Memory Foam Hybrid, as well as the Nectar Hybrid did exceptional with only 3-3.5″ of sinkage at the edge.
The Nectar Hybrid Premier and Hybrid Premier Copper weren’t far behind with 3.75 – 4.25″ of sinkage.
Although the Nectar hybrids had good scores, the Nectar all-foam mattresses all had poor scores, with 6.25 – 7.25″ of sinkage at the edge. This is over twice the level of sinkage we see from Saatva (and the Nectar Hybrid also).
You can see the difference in the images below.

If edge support is an important factor to you, I would recommend sticking with Saatva or one of the Nectar hybrids. The level of collapse we see from the classic all-foam Nectars is just too much and these mattresses cannot support sitting at the edge.
Sex Test
To score sex performance we look at a number of different factors that all play a role in quality sex. Factors include bounce, edge support, noise, pressure relief, and cooling.

All factors are not equal in terms of significance, but each plays an important role.
For the final sex score for each mattress, we plug the relative scores into the formula below.

Using this score we can start to compare how each mattress would likely perform in a sex situation based on their individual performance.
Between Saatva vs. Nectar, Saatva is the clear winner for this category.
Sex Test | Sex Score | Bounce | Edge Support | Noise | Pressure Relief | Cooling |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Saatva Classic | 9.9 | 10 | 10 | 8.0 | 10 | 10 |
Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid | 9.7 | 10 | 9.4 | 8.0 | 9.0 | 10 |
Nectar Hybrid | 8.4 | 8.0 | 9.4 | 10 | 8.0 | 9.0 |
Nectar Hybrid Premier | 9.6 | 10 | 8.4 | 10 | 9.0 | 9.0 |
Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper | 8.6 | 8.3 | 9.1 | 10 | 9.0 | 9.0 |
Nectar Original | 6.0 | 5.4 | 5.9 | 10 | 9.0 | 8.0 |
Nectar Premier | 6.8 | 6.9 | 4.7 | 10 | 9.0 | 9.0 |
Nectar Premier Copper | 6.3 | 5.7 | 5.9 | 10 | 9.0 | 9.0 |
Saatva has more bounce and better edge support than Nectar and these two factors alone make up 80% of the sex score. It also has excellent cooling and great pressure relief as well.
If you prefer the feel of a Nectar when it’s time for sleep and not sex, I would strongly recommend the Nectar hybrid mattresses.
These will perform significantly better than the all-foam Nectars in a sex situation, noting higher levels of bounce and better edge support (although not quite to the level of Saatva).
Pressure Relief Test
Moving right along, let’s talk about pressure relief. In our tests, both Nectar and Saatva were able to put up high scores for this category, some mattresses better than others.
Pressure Relief Test | Score | Comfort Layer | Support Layer |
---|---|---|---|
Saatva Classic | 10 | 4.5″ | 7.0″ |
Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid | 9.0 | 2.5″ | 9.0″ |
Nectar Hybrid | 8.0 | 3.0″ | 9.0″ |
Nectar Hybrid Premier | 9.0 | 4.0″ | 9.0″ |
Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper | 9.0 | 5.0″ | 9.0″ |
Nectar Original | 9.0 | 5.0″ | 7.0″ |
Nectar Premier | 9.0 | 6.0″ | 7.0″ |
Nectar Premier Copper | 9.0 | 5.0″ | 9.0″ |
Ideally, I like to see at least 3″ of comfort material for optimal pressure relief (with 4.0″ or more being better).
All Nectar mattresses in this comparison, excluding the Nectar Hybrid, all had 3.0″ of comfort material or more and earned high scores (9.0).
The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid also earned a 9.0 score though. This is interesting considering it only has 2.5″ of comfort material. However, the plush Euro-cover really enhances the performance and helps make up for the difference in comfort layer thickness.
For the best performance, opt for the Saatva Classic. This mattress has a 4.5″ comfort layer as well as the plush, Euro cover for exceptional pressure relief.
Off-Gassing Test
Concerning off-gassing, Saatva is the clear winner between the two brands.
Off-Gassing Test | Score | Initial Smell | Smell Duration |
---|---|---|---|
Saatva Classic | 10 | None | 0 days |
Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid | 10 | None | 0 days |
Nectar Hybrid | 9.2 | Strong | 3 days |
Nectar Hybrid Premier | 8.9 | Strong | 4 days |
Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper | 9.4 | Moderate | 2 days |
Nectar Original | 8.9 | Moderate | 4 days |
Nectar Premier | 8.9 | Strong | 4 days |
Nectar Premier Copper | 9.2 | Strong | 3 days |
Saatva ships uncompressed so it arrived with zero off-gassing odor. The Nectar mattresses all arrive with a moderate to strong smell and take between 2-4 days to off-gas.
What is off-gassing?
Off-gassing is the process that happens when fumes are released by the mattress after unboxing. The average off-gassing period is about 2.8 days (across all mattresses that we’ve tested to date).
Company
Nectar vs. Saatva, at a company level, is very comparable.
Company | Saatva | Nectar |
---|---|---|
Score | 9.4 | 9 |
Trial Period | 365 nights | 365 nights |
Warranty | Lifetime | Lifetime |
Shipping | $0 | $0 |
Returns | $99 | $0 |
Trust | Outstanding | Good |
Country of Origin | USA | China |
Both companies have a 365-night trial period as well as a lifetime warranty. Shipping is also free for both, but on Saatva you’ll have to pay a $99 return fee if things don’t work out.
Firmness
All of the mattresses tested here fall within a medium to medium firm range. The Saatva Classic is the only mattress here that is available in multiple firmnesses.
Firmness | Rating | Feel |
---|---|---|
Saatva Classic | 4, 6, 8 | Soft, Medium-Firm, Firm |
Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid | 6 | Medium-Firm |
Nectar Hybrid | 6.5 | Medium-Firm |
Nectar Hybrid Premier | 6 | Medium-Firm |
Nectar Hybrid Premier Copper | 6.5 | Medium-Firm |
Nectar Original | 6.5 | Medium-Firm |
Nectar Premier | 5.5 | Medium |
Nectar Premier Copper | 5 | Medium |
Support & Sleeping Positions
Both Saatva and Nectar offer firmnesses that fall in a range that would be suitable for a wide range of sleepers. If you’re not sure which firmness is right for you, here are some quick guidelines you can follow.

Generally speaking, lighter sleepers prefer a softer mattress than heavier sleepers. And side sleepers prefer a softer mattress than stomach or back sleepers.
If you’re a lightweight side sleeper, I would opt for the Saatva Classic Soft or Nectar Premier Copper.
If you’re a heavier-weighted back or stomach sleeper, I would opt for the Saatva Classic Firm.
If you fall anywhere else in the middle, basically any Nectar, Saatva Classic Luxury Firm, or Saatva Memory Foam hybrid could work, since the firmness is very similar across the board.
Design
Both Saatva and Nectar have a hybrid mattress. Saatva offers a coil-on-coil as well and Nectar offers a few all-foam mattresses.
The table below lists a few more differences including type, thickness, and the mattress cover.
Design | Type | Mattress Thickness |
---|---|---|
Saatva Classic | Coil | 11.5″ |

Which Mattress Should You Buy?
So we have eight great mattresses here, each with its own set of advantages and disadvantages. Not sure how to pick? Let’s review some of the highlights below on when you may want to buy each mattress and who it is made for.
Should You Buy the Saatva Classic?
I would recommend the Saatva Classic if you’re looking for:
- Luxury feel. The Saatva Classic has a plush, Euro-style cover and is the highest-performing mattress in this comparison. For a truly luxury feel that doesn’t skimp on performance, the Saatva Classic is a solid pick
- Firmness options. If you are looking for something a little softer or firmer than a medium, the Saatva Classic is the only mattress between these two brands which comes in a soft or firm firmness.
Click here to learn more or to check the price of the Saatva Classic mattress.
Should You Buy the Nectar Original?
I would recommend the Nectar Original if you’re looking for:
- Least bounce. For a more traditional memory foam feel, the Nectar Original is a good pick. It offers the least bounce and also very low motion transfer levels.
- Slowest response time. With the low bounce and low motion transfer comes very slow response times. This also means that it has deeper contour and hug, again, like a classic memory foam. If you are worried about “feeling stuck” this may not be the best option for you.

Should You Buy the Nectar Premier Copper?
I would recommend the Nectar Premier Copper if you’re looking for:
- Lowest motion transfer. For the absolute lowest motion transfer, check out the Premier Copper. The 4.0″ slab of memory foam is great at absorbing motion and limiting nighttime disturbances like partners, kids, or pets.
- Great cooling. This mattress has a copper-infused cooling cover as well as gel-infused memory foam. These two materials make for a cooler sleeping surface and heightened performance.

- No off-gassing. This is also the only hybrid in this comparison with no off-gassing. If this is an important factor for you, the Memory Foam Hybrid may work best for you.

FAQ
Slight impressions are to be expected, but anything that dips more than 1.5” would be considered a warranty issue. Saatva backs this level of compression with a lifetime warranty.
No, you do not need to flip a Nectar mattress.
Nectar recommends waiting a day or two before sleeping on the mattress. This gives the mattress time to fully decompress and expand which in turn improves overall support on the mattress.
