The Verdict
Loom & Leaf is a dedicated memory foam brand owned by Saatva, and they only sell the one all-foam, memory foam model. Tempurpedic is the veteran mattress brand that’s spent decades building a unique reputation in the luxury mattress space for their memory foam models. Their models are split into four collections and are configured into more than 20 options across online and retail stores.
The firmness options of the Loom & Leaf are limited to medium (5.5) and firm (8). Meanwhile, Tempurpedic has a similar range with options of medium (5), medium-firm (6), slightly firm (7), and firm (8).
While Tempurpedic is certainly known for their premium price, Loom & Leaf is a bit more expensive at $2,699 (for a queen). On average, Tempurpedic mattresses cost $2,174. This does not include some options we’ve yet to test from Tempurpedic that are priced all the way up to $10,298 (queen) for their “active breeze” models.
As far as performance is concerned, Loom & Leaf is well above Tempurpedic in terms of overall performance. At 8.75, Loom & Leaf is more than a solid notch above the average Tempurpedic score of 7.70.
Even when Tempurpedic mattresses achieve excellent or outstanding levels of performance in some areas, they lack balance across other categories that score significantly worse than average. Overall, Loom & Leaf may be more expensive, but it has better value and is better suited for side sleeping.

Which Mattress Should You Buy?
The mattresses earning the title for “best overall” from each brand have the highest overall performance. Overall performance is determined by scores from 8 different categories including cooling, motion transfer, response time, edge support, sex performance, pressure relief, off-gassing, and company.
Sinkage and bounce are also taken into consideration, but they are not direct scoring factors.
Between Loom & Leaf and Tempurpedic, the two top recommendations are Loom & Leaf and Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid.
Best Loom & Leaf
Loom & Leaf

Type: Memory Foam
Firmness: Medium (5.5), Firm (8)
The Loom & Leaf is a 12″ memory foam mattress with 2 layers of memory foam, transitional poly foam, and support foam. It has a medium feel with extremely deep sinkage and very low bounce. Its score of 8.75 ranks it among the top 41% of all mattresses tested to date. When you consider its is nearly double that of the average mattress ($2,699), this may not seem like a great deal. However, categories it performed poorly in are balanced by categories it performed outstandingly in, like Motion Transfer, Pressure Relief, and Off-Gassing. This is also the mattress my wife and I sleep on every night.
Best Tempurpedic
Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid

Type: Memory Foam Hybrid
Firmness: Medium-Firm (6)
The Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid is an 11-inch memory foam hybrid made of two layers of memory foam, a pocketed coil unit, a support form layer, and topped with a thin, cooling cover. It has a medium-firm feel with very deep sinkage and very low bounce. Its 7.92 performance score and $1,999 place it within the bottom 14% of all mattresses tested to date, while being 34% more expensive than average. It achieved excellent but not perfect scores in cooling, motion transfer, and pressure relief, making it a great option for sleepers of all sleeping positions and most body weights.
The Loom & Leaf and Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid both offer sleepers an extremely similar memory foam feel in terms of deep sinkage and a dramatic hug around one’s body. For both mattresses, one would need to love a more enveloping feel.
Both mattresses have a slow response time, but the Supreme Hybrid has a significantly slower feel than the Loom & Leaf. This may add to some sleepers’ preference for a less lively surface, but the trade-off is a greater difficulty in shifting positions.
From a design perspective, the biggest difference is the use of the coil unit versus support foam layers. This does give the Tempurpedic Supreme an advantage in sex performance, as the mattress allows for more bounce. The Loom & Leaf also has an extra 2″ of comfort material, which gives it better pressure relief.
Overall, the Loom & Leaf is more expensive, has fewer trade-offs, and achieves a 10/10 rating for motion transfer, pressure relief, and off-gassing. If budget is no issue, I would recommend this to sleepers, especially couples, over the Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid, whose only advantages are a lower price and slightly better edge support.

Firmness
Looking at all available mattresses we’ve tested, Loom & Leaf ranges in firmness from 5.5 to 8 out of 10, and Tempurpedic mattresses range from 5 to 8 out of 10.
Neither brand offers a truly soft option, but those who prefer a firm feel have a version of the Loom & Leaf and the Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid to choose from.
Check the table below to see the details of each mattress.
| Firmness | Rating | Feel |
|---|---|---|
| Loom & Leaf | 5.5, 8 | Medium, Firm |
| Tempurpedic Cloud | 6 | Medium-Firm |
| Tempurpedic Pro Adapt | 5, 6, 7 | Medium, Medium-Firm, Slightly Firm |
| Tempurpedic Supreme | 6, 8 | Medium-Firm, Firm |
| Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid | 6 | Medium-Firm |
Not sure which firmness you need? Your ideal mattress firmness depends on two major factors—sleeping position and body weight. With the right firmness, your body and spine will maintain proper alignment when sleeping.

Lightweight sleepers or those who sleep on their side tend to need a softer mattress. By comparison, heavier sleepers or those who sleep on their back or stomach tend to need more support and a firmer feel.

Cooling Test
First, let’s talk about cooling performance. Memory foam is known for being more susceptible to heat buildup, as it does not breathe as well as other materials.
With that said, the Loom & Leaf is better than Tempurpedic mattresses in regard to cooling performance. It earned a 9/10 for cooling, while the Tempurpedic models averaged an 8.0.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding cooling.
| Cooling Test | Score | Baseline | Max. Temp. | Ending Temp. |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Loom & Leaf | 9.0 | 79.1° | 87.6° | 80.8° |
| Tempurpedic Cloud | 8.0 | 74.1° | 89.5° | 82.6° |
| Tempurpedic Pro Adapt | 7.0 | 78.6° | 91.5° | 84.3° |
| Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid | 9.0 | 78.5° | 89.6° | 82.8° |
- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (after 5 minutes) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
Below, you can watch a video of how the heat dissipates on each mattress during our cooling test. For this test, we lie on the mattress for 15 minutes, get off the mattress, and then take periodic surface-level temperature measurements.
Loom & Leaf
Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid
Tempurpedic Cloud
Tempurpedic Pro Adapt
The average cooling score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.6. Therefore, the Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid and the Loom & Leaf both performed above average.
The Supreme Hybrid has the advantage of using less memory foam and having a pocketed coil unit rather than pure foam layers, as with the Loom & Leaf. The quilted, euro-style cover and gel foam top layer on the Loom & Leaf combine to reduce heat buildup, as we saw in our tests.

The Tempurpedic Cloud and Pro Adapt are both all-foam mattresses with breathable, knit moisture-wicking covers. The Pro Adapt also includes convolutions in its support layer to improve breathability.
In the end, the Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid or the Loom & Leaf are going to be your best bet in terms of cooling. Although neither option is as good as we’ve seen from other brands.
Sinkage Test
The Loom & Leaf mattress offers deeper sinkage than Tempurpedic. The three Tempurpedic models measured an average sinkage depth of 2.18″, offering depths from minimal to moderate to very deep. The sinkage measured on the Loom & Leaf mattress is deeper still.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding sinkage.
| Sinkage Test | Sinkage Feel | Sinkage Depth |
|---|---|---|
| Loom & Leaf | Extremely Deep | 3.09″ |
| Tempurpedic Cloud | Moderate | 2.11″ |
| Tempurpedic Pro Adapt | Minimal | 1.73″ |
| Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid | Very Deep | 2.69″ |
The level of sinkage for each mattress is documented in the images below.
Loom & Leaf

Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid

Tempurpedic Cloud

Tempurpedic Pro Adapt

The average sinkage depth across all mattresses tested to date is 2.23″.
Back and stomach sleepers usually prefer less sinkage, which better maintains proper alignment of their spine. The Tempurpedic Cloud (2.11″), Tempurpedic Pro Adapt (1.73″) both have less sinkage than average.

Generally, side sleepers enjoy a deeper level of sinkage, as that typically translates to better pressure relief and contour. For deeper sinkage, opt for the Loom & Leaf (3.09″) or the Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid (2.69″).
With the intense memory foam feel, you must be prepared for an exacting contour and hug around your body. Those who do not prefer an enveloping sensation may not enjoy any of these models, especially those with the deeper sinkage.
Motion Transfer Test
When it comes to motion transfer, memory foam mattresses have a huge advantage over other models. Specifically, this is where the Loom & Leaf shines with a perfect 10/10 score.
The Tempupredic models earned an average motion transfer score of 9.1, with their highest score reaching a 9.5.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding motion transfer.
| Motion Transfer Test | Score | Acc. Range |
|---|---|---|
| Loom & Leaf | 10 | 5.02 m/s² |
| Tempurpedic Cloud | 8.7 | 7.88 m/s² |
| Tempurpedic Pro Adapt | 9.5 | 6.13 m/s² |
| Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid | 9.0 | 7.13 m/s² |
The level of motion transfer on each mattress is also documented in the videos below.
Loom & Leaf
Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid
Tempurpedic Cloud
Tempurpedic Pro Adapt
The average motion transfer score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.2.
Even the worst performing, Tempurpedic Cloud, is well-above this performance score. While memory foam is generally effective at dampening energy, the slow response of dense foam can let some energy transfer. This is especially true for thinner comfort layers.

The Tempurpedic Pro Adapt was the best performing Tempurpedic model for low motion transfer. It has the thickest comfort layer at 3.00″.
Ultimately, couples sensitive to movements while they sleep should strongly consider Tempurpedic mattresses or, even more strongly, the Loom & Leaf.
Response Test
Next, let’s talk about response time. This is one of the performance categories memory foam mattresses tend to struggle with, and that’s what we see for both Loom & Leaf and Tempurpedic.
However, Loom & Leaf is significantly better than Tempurpedic.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding response.
| Response Test | Score | Mostly Recovered | Completely Recovered |
|---|---|---|---|
| Loom & Leaf | 7.1 | 0.6 seconds | 1.6 seconds |
| Tempurpedic Cloud | 5.0 | 3.8 seconds | 8.0 seconds |
| Tempurpedic Pro Adapt | 5.0 | 2.5 seconds | 5.5 seconds |
| Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid | 5.0 | 1.7 seconds | 3.3 seconds |
The level of responsiveness for each mattress is documented in the videos below.
Loom & Leaf
Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid
Tempurpedic Cloud
Tempurpedic Pro Adapt
The average response score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.8. While the Loom & Leaf is slower compared to the average mattress, the Tempurpedic models are much, much slower. The image below is only possible with an extremely slow responding material.

The slower material speed we see on the Loom & Leaf represents a reasonable trade-off for a modern memory foam that shouldn’t be too great a hindrance to most sleepers.
What we see on the Tempurpedic models demonstrates why they can be polarizing to sleepers. You may end up loving the feel Tempurpedic mattresses offer, but know that you will experience a noticeable “stuck” sensation that makes it difficult to shift positions or move around on.
Bounce Test
For bounce, Loom & Leaf and Tempurpedic models are at an even larger disadvantage. The dampening by the memory foam layers on these mattresses takes full effect with larger movements, as we measure during our bounce tests.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding bounce.
| Bounce Test | Bounce Feel | Bounce Height |
|---|---|---|
| Loom & Leaf | Very Low | 4.72″ |
| Tempurpedic Cloud | Very Low | 4.47″ |
| Tempurpedic Pro Adapt | Very Low | 4.56″ |
| Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid | Very Low | 5.78″ |
The level of bounce for each mattress is documented in the videos below.
Loom & Leaf
Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid
Tempurpedic Cloud
Tempurpedic Pro Adapt
The average bounce across all mattresses tested to date is 8.75″. Based on the above data, it’s plain to see none of these mattresses have anything close to a
“bouncy” or “lively” surface.
The bounciest mattress is the Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid, which has an innerspring coil unit. Coil units certainly perform better than support foam in terms of bounce, but the mattress still ultimately measured in the “very low” range of bounce data.

Plainly speaking, if you’re choosing between Loom & Leaf vs. Tempurpedic mattresses, bounce is not much of a differentiating factor.
Mattresses with more bounce are better for ease of movement and increase sex performance. However, higher bounce also typically creates a higher level of motion transfer. So there are pros and cons when it comes to bounce.
Edge Support Test
Next, let’s compare edge support across the mattresses, with regard to sitting edge compression and the ability to safely lie at the absolute edge.
Tempurpedic has better edge support than Loom & Leaf. The three mattresses in this comparison earned an average edge support score of 8.1, and the Loom & Leaf earned a score of 7.5.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding edge support.
| Edge Support Test | Score | Sitting Sinkage | Lying Support |
|---|---|---|---|
| Loom & Leaf | 7.5 | 6.25″ | Excellent |
| Tempurpedic Cloud | 7.4 | 4.75″ | Fair |
| Tempurpedic Pro Adapt | 8.4 | 3.25″ | Fair |
| Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid | 8.5 | 2.75″ | Fair |
The level of edge support is documented in the images below.
Loom & Leaf

Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid

Tempurpedic Cloud

Tempurpedic Pro Adapt

The average edge support score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.7.
Specifically, the Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid has outstanding sitting edge support. It uses a perimeter support foam to reinforce support around the mattress, while the other Tempurpedic models have no such reinforcement

The Loom & Leaf is at a similar disadvantage here because it has no special reinforcing material, and the memory foam allows for a large amount of sinkage. The Loom & Leaf was considerably worse than the Tempurpedic mattresses for sitting support.
However, when it came to lying support, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions. Its transitional support foam and overall thick profile seem to make up for the deep compression allowed by the memory foam layers. Meanwhile, I did not feel secure while lying at the edge of any of these Tempurpedic mattresses.
If you sleep in a bed with a partner who exiles you to the very edge, Tempurpedic mattresses are not your best choice, but their sides are good for sitting.
Sex Test
As a mattress type, memory foam mattresses are typically not the best mattress type for sex. For Loom and Leaf and Tempurpedic mattresses, this stereotype holds true.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding sex.
| Sex Test | Sex Score | Bounce | Edge Support | Noise | Pressure Relief | Cooling |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Loom & Leaf | 6.1 | 5.4 | 5.9 | 10 | 10 | 9.0 |
| Tempurpedic Cloud | 6.4 | 5.3 | 7.8 | 10 | 9.0 | 8.0 |
| Tempurpedic Pro Adapt | 6.7 | 5.3 | 9.7 | 10 | 10 | 7.0 |
| Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid | 7.4 | 6.1 | 10 | 10 | 9.0 | 9.0 |
The average sex score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.2. Every one of these Tempurpedic mattresses and the Loom & Leaf has a worse-than-average sex score.
On the positive side, they are among the quietest mattresses, with perfect noise scores. Pressure relief is similarly fantastic. It simply comes down to bounce and edge support, as these are the heaviest weighted factors.

The best mattress for sex is the Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid, which makes perfect sense as it’s the only one with a coil unit. While those springs help, the Tempurpedic memory foam is extremely effective at reducing bounce, and bounce is greatly beneficial for the dance without pants.
Pressure Relief Test
Both Loom & Leaf and Tempurpedic are excellent examples of the fantastic pressure relief memory foam can provide to sleepers.
In our reviews, Loom & Leaf earned a 10/10 pressure relief score, while the Tempurpedic models averaged a 9.3 pressure relief score.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding pressure relief.
| Pressure Relief Test | Score | Comfort Layer | Support Layer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Loom & Leaf | 10 | 4.50″ | 7.50″ |
| Tempurpedic Cloud | 9.0 | 3.00″ | 7.00″ |
| Tempurpedic Pro Adapt | 10 | 3.50″ | 8.50″ |
| Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid | 9.0 | 2.50″ | 8.50″ |
The average pressure relief score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.6. So by this measure, all of these Tempurpedic models and the Loom & Leaf are better than average in terms of pressure relief.
The Tempurpedic Pro Adapt and the Loom & Leaf both earned the highest score possible for pressure relief. They both use extremely similar designs and demonstrate an ideal ratio of support and comfort material. On top of that, they both have zoned support for more nuanced pushback for your head/feet versus your waist.
The materials included in each mattress are documented in the images below.
Loom & Leaf

Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid

Tempurpedic Cloud

Tempurpedic Pro Adapt

The high-density and/or high-quality foam, as we see in Tempurpedic models, means it doesn’t need to be as thick as other materials to achieve good results. The Cloud and Supreme Hybrid models both earn excellent scores (9/10) with less than 3″ of memory foam.
While we don’t have specific density measurements for the Tempurpedic foam, we can confidently confirm their memory foam is significantly denser than most.

Loom & Leaf did share their material specifications with us, and their two layers of memory foam have a density of 4.0 to 5.0 PCF. For reference, a standard memory foam is around 3.5 to 4.5 PCF.
Suffice it to say that these mattresses are among the highest quality memory foam options on the market in terms of pressure relief.
Off-Gassing Test
When it comes to off-gassing, Tempurpedic mattresses are among the worst offenders. Typically, the denser the memory foam, the stronger the smell can be and the longer it can linger, especially with all-foam models. This was not the case with the Loom & Leaf.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding off-gassing.
| Off-Gassing Test | Score | Initial Smell | Smell Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Loom & Leaf | 10 | None | 0 days |
| Tempurpedic Cloud | 8.1 | Strong | 7 days |
| Tempurpedic Pro Adapt | 7.8 | Strong | 8 days |
| Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid | 4.4 | Strong | 20 days |
The average smell duration across all mattresses tested to date is 7.13 days.
A huge factor in off-gassing is how the mattress is packaged. The Loom & Leaf is never compressed or shipped in a box. It arrives uncompressed with no strong smell and an effectively non-existent off-gassing period.

Most Tempurpedic mattresses are likewise not shipped in a box, but rather in a bag. Even still, we measured a distinct, strong odor for up to 20 days in the case of the Tempurpedic Supreme Hybrid. The Tempurpedic Cloud and Pro Adapt models were more reasonable and around the average duration of 7 days.
If you’re sensitive to strong synthetic odors, your best bet with a memory foam mattress is to go with the Loom & Leaf, since it arrives with its off-gassing complete.
Company
Finally, Loom & Leaf has much better company policies compared to Tempurpedic, no matter how you slice it.
Loom & Leaf is owned by Saatva, and their general policies closely match theirs: customers are offered a 365-night trial period, a lifetime warranty, free shipping, and returns for a $99 fee. They also offer Saatva’s free “white-glove delivery,” which makes it a great option for those who don’t wish to set up the mattress themselves.

The return fee is the only factor stopping them from a 10/10 score. These other terms are exemplary, consumer-friendly policies.
Tempurpedic mattresses purchased from them directly will have a 90-night trial period, a 10-year warranty, free shipping, and a $175 return fee.

Tempurpedic mattresses purchased at Costco, like the Supreme models, will have no trial period, a 10-year warranty, free shipping, and free returns. They also offer free in-home delivery, set-up, and haul away of your old mattress.
Check out the table below to see how each mattress compares regarding company policies.
| Company | Loom & Leaf | Tempurpedic | Tempurpedic Costco |
