Best For
- Excellent edge support
- Outstanding cooling performance
- 365-night trial period and lifetime warranty
Considerations
- More motion transfer than I’d like to see
- Only 2.5″ of comfort material may not be enough for heavier sleepers
Our Verdict
The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid is an 11.5″ thick hybrid mattress with memory foam and pocketed coils. It has a balanced feel with a plush pillow-top cover and a medium firmness (6 out of 10).
It offers a minimal level of sinkage and an extremely high level of bounce, which gives it a very lively feel to its surface. You won’t have to worry about feeling overly enveloped or stuck in the mattress.
The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid has an overall performance score of 9.24, which ranks it among the top 11% of all mattresses tested to date. Compared to just other memory foam hybrids, it is tied for second best, with the first place winner having a score of 9.25.
This Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid is essentially tied for the best memory foam hybrid tested to date. At this price point, it is one of the very best value mattresses we’ve tested. If motion transfer isn’t a huge issue for you then this is a fantastic mattress.

How is Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid Different?
The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid has better overall performance than average, but also a price tag that is above average—17% more than the average memory foam hybrid (or $274).
Advantages
Cooling is better on the Saatva than average. It also has a faster material response time and better edge support than average.
Neutral Factors
Neutral factors include sinkage and bounce. We consider these to be neutral since they’re not really “good vs. bad”. Different sleepers have different preferences, but these factors are still important to the decision-making process.
Sinkage on the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid is 13% less than average and bounce levels are 48% higher than average.
Disadvantages
This mattress does have 15% higher levels of motion transfer than average and is slightly 0.6″ thinner than average. It also has a thinner comfort layer, but these thinner layers don’t mean poorer pressure relief or support (as is sometimes the case).
Cooling Test
Cooling performance on the Saatva Memory Foam hybrid was outstanding. During our tests, I felt no notable heat retention or hot spots around my body.
Baseline Temp.
78.0° F
Max Temp.
89.4° F
Ending Temp.
81.3° F
Despite the use of a memory foam comfort layer, the mattress breathes extremely well. The mattress uses 2.5” of comfort material for comfort and pressure relief. While a thinner comfort layer can be detrimental to pressure relief and overall comfort, it is also beneficial for cooling.
Max Temp.

Ending Temp

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
Less foam means there is less physical material able to absorb and retain heat. With respect to the layer design and materials, I’m pleased with what I see here.
Looking at our objective data, the Saatva Memory Foam hybrid hit a max temp of 89.4°, which is 0.2° cooler than the average (based on all of our tests to date).
Most impressive is the heat dissipation curve. From minutes 0 to 1 the surface level temperature declined 5.1°, from 89.4 to 84.3° F. This is notably better than the average 0 to 1-minute decline, which is 3.8° F.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

The temperature continued to gradually decline from minutes 1 to 5, ending at 81.3°. That’s a total temperature drop of 8.1° F (the average 0 to 5-minute decline is 6.4°).
When we consider our subjective experience, the material layer design, and objective data, I am confident in my assessment that the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid has exceptionally good cooling.
Sinkage Test
The Saatva Memory Foam hybrid has a minimal level of sinkage. In our tests, we measured 1.88” of pressure point sinkage. This is 0.27” less sinkage than the average sinkage of 2.15” (based on all of our tests to date).
Sinkage Depth
1.88″
Sinkage Feel
Minimal
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

Memory foam top layers give it a more traditional memory foam feel. There is a high degree of contour and hug around the body. However, since it is a hybrid the total feel is still more restrained than an all-foam memory foam mattress or a hybrid with a thicker memory foam comfort layer.
For sleepers who dislike feeling overly enveloped by foam, this is beneficial. The Saatva Memory Foam hybrid leans more in the direction of sleeping “on top” of the mattress as opposed to “in it”.
Motion Transfer Test
The Saatva Memory Foam hybrid has a moderate level of motion transfer. In our tests, we measured 10.11 m/s² of acceleration range. This is 15% more motion transfer than the average of 8.79 m/s² (based on all of our tests to date).
The level of motion transfer is documented in the video below.
With less foam in the top comfort layers sleepers engage more quickly with the coil layer. In my view, that is why we are seeing less-than-great motion transfer here.
Max. Acceleration
3.86 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-6.25 m/s²
Accel. Range
10.11 m/s²
Even the best coil systems are going to create more motion than an all foam mattress. With less foam to absorb and deaden the motion you end up with greater motion.
It’s not an absurdly high level of motion, but it is considerably more than many hybrids with thicker comfort layers and also more than most all foam mattresses we’ve tested.

Looking at our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we can see spikes around 0.14 seconds and 0.70 seconds. A moderate level of motion persists up until 1.27 seconds.
Both the motion peaks and motion duration are less than amazing. The mattresses with the least motion transfer are able to fully disperse all energy within 0.3 seconds. As a result, the Saatva Memory Foam hybrid is far from that mark.
Response Test
The Saatva Memory Foam hybrid has a very fast response time. In our tests, we measured 0.3 for the mattress to mostly recover and 1.0 seconds to fully recover.
Mostly Recovered
0.3 sec.
Complete Recovery
1.0 sec.
The fastest responding mattresses we’ve tested to date mostly recover in 0.2 seconds and fully recover in 0.3 seconds. Saatva’s Memory Foam hybrid isn’t quite that fast, but it’s not far off.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
On average, based on all of our tests to date, we see mattresses mostly recovered in 0.52 seconds and fully recovered in 0.97 seconds. At the end of the day, the Saatva Memory Foam hybrid is still using a memory foam comfort layer.
So it’s not going to be as instant as latex or responsive poly foam. Even so, for most sleepers, it is more than fast enough to quickly adapt to changes in movement and prevent any type of a stuck feeling.
Bounce Test
The Saatva Memory Foam hybrid mattress has an extremely high level of bounce. In our tests, we measured 14.06” of total bounce height.
This is 4.54” more bounce than the average total bounce height of 9.52” (based on all of our tests to date).
Max. Depth
5.76″
Max. Rebound
8.30″
Total Bounce
14.06″
The coil unit that the Saatva uses creates a surprisingly high level of pushback, response, and bounce. Typically, I like to see 8-12” of total bounce.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
At 14.06” the Saatva is a good bit beyond that. At this level of bounce, you’re more likely to experience increased motion transfer (which our objective motion data confirmed).
However, more bounce also makes the Saatva Memory Foam hybrid better for sex and makes it easier to move around on. So there are pros and cons to a higher bounce level.
Edge Support Test
The Saatva Memory Foam hybrid has excellent edge support. In our sitting edge support tests we measured 3.5” of sinkage. This is 0.55″ less sitting sinkage than the average of 4.05” (based on all of our tests to date).
When it comes to edge sinkage, less is always better. I like to see 4.0” or less of sitting sinkage. The Saatva easily hit and exceeded that mark.
Max Sinkage
3.50″
Lying Support
Outstanding
While sitting directly on the edge of the mattress I felt fully supported. There was zero sensation of material collapse. Even when wearing a 60-pound weighted vest, bringing my body weight to 200 pounds, the edge support is truly fantastic.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

Edge support while lying was even more impressive. The Saatva Memory Foam hybrid has arguably the best lying edge support I’ve tested to date.

Saatva uses a 4.0” thick support foam that runs along the entire perimeter of the mattress. This perimeter support foam, in combination with the comfort layers and support coils, work together to deliver fantastic edge support.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

All things considered, I am exceedingly happy with the edge support performance. I don’t foresee any sleepers having any issues with edge support.
Sex Test
The Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid has outstanding sex performance.
The best mattresses for sex have high bounce, good edge support, quiet materials, and good pressure relief and cooling. And that’s what we see here.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 10 | Extremely High |
Edge Support | 20% | 9.4 | Excellent |
Noise | 5% | 8.0 | Moderate |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
Cooling | 5% | 10 | Outstanding |
This mattress has a high bounce which gives it a very active and engaging surface. The plush cover provides a good degree of hug and contour, without leaving you feeling hot.

The edge support is fantastic as well and the mattress is quiet. Overally, the memory foam hybrid mattress had a fantastic performance, no complaints from me.
Pressure Relief Test
Overall, I found pressure relief on the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid to be excellent. The quilted cover, memory foam top layer, and lumbar support work together to create robust pressure relief.
Comfort Layer
2.5″
Support Layer
9.0″
During my tests, I felt comfortable and did not experience any building pressure points while lying in any sleeping position.
My only concern with respect to pressure relief is the relatively limited 2.5” comfort layer. 2.5” just isn’t much in terms of comfort material.

Heavier-weight sleepers and bodies with big hips or big mid-sections could end up sinking through the 2.5” comfort layer and into the less pressure-relieving support coil system.
As a result, pressure relief isn’t perfect on the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid. Even so, it’s going to be sufficient for most sleepers and at this price point it’s hard to complain too much.
Off-Gassing Test
Off-gassing on the Saatva Memory Foam hybrid was basically non-existent. It had zero smell upon arrival.
Initial Smell Strength
None
Off-Gassing Period
0 days
This mattress is never compressed so it is able to disperse the smell and off-gas throughout the entire shipping journey to you instead of being built up.
For reference, most mattresses end up smelling an average of 1 week before all odors have fully dissipated.
Company
The company score takes a look at factors that may influence your experience with the mattress.
Factors include length of the trial period, warranty, shipping / return costs, and country of origin.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|
Trial Period | 15% | 10 | 365 nights |
Warranty | 10% | 10 | Lifetime |
Shipping | 5% | 10 | $0 |
Returns | 20% | 7.0 | $99 |
Trust | 50% | 10 | Outstanding |
Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
Saatva has a long 365-night trial period and a lifetime warranty. Honestly, it just doesn’t get much better than this.
Shipping is free and returns are $99 so if things don’t work out, you’re not out too much money. Having to pay anything for a return isn’t great, but considering the mattress ships with white glove delivery service, it makes sense.
Saatva mattresses ship uncompressed. Because of this, Saatva offers free in-room delivery and setup as well as removing your old mattress and foundation (also free!)
How firm is the Saatva Hybrid?
The firmness of the Saatva memory foam hybrid is a 6 out of 10. This is a standard medium firm and is suitable for a wide range of sleepers.

Support & Sleeping Positions
Support on the Saatva Memory Foam Hybrid is excellent. Throughout our battery of tests, I felt fully supported in all sleeping positions.
While I’m not in love with only 2.5” of comfort material, the limited comfort layer does help to create a more balanced feel on the mattress at large.
As a result, it’s the type of mattress that many different sleeper types could enjoy.
Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleepers | Side Sleepers | Back Sleepers |
---|---|---|---|
Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
150-250 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
250-300 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Notably, it doesn’t have a full zoned support coil system, but that’s not unexpected at this price point. However, the mattress does include a 0.5” lumbar support foam pad in the center third of the mattress.
This creates a measure of zonal support and improves support where most of your body weight is located. This added support helps to improve zonal alignment, keeping the mid-section in alignment with the lower body, shoulders, neck, and head.
Design
The Saatva memory foam hybrid is just as it sounds, a mattress blend that uses memory foam and pocketed coils for comfort and support.
Type
Hybrid
Thickness
11.5″
Firmness
6
Unlike the Saatva Classic which comes in two different height options and three firmness options, the Saatva memory foam hybrid comes in a single height (11.5″) and a single firmness (6 out of 10).

Let’s dive into some more of the details of this mattress.
Materials
The layers of the Saatva memory foam hybrid include the following, from top to bottom:
- 1.0″ quilted cover
- 0.5″ gel memory foam (center 1/3rd of the mattress only)
- 1.5″ memory foam
- 8.0″ pocketed coils
- 1.0″ support foam

The Cover
The cover is a Euro-style tufted cover with a plush feel made of hypoallergenic, organic cotton. This cover is designed to promote cooler sleep and be naturally breathable.
Aesthetically, there is the classic Saatva cording that wraps around the top and bottom edge of the mattress. Stitching on the side is in a wave-like pattern and there are four handles (two on each side) for easier transport when you need it.

There’s no zipper closure on this mattress, but seeing that there are coils, that’s not entirely uncommon.
The whole cover is treated with an antimicrobial finish, which helps inhibit the growth of bacteria, mold, and mildew.
The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer of the Saatva memory foam hybrid includes a 1.0″ quilted cover with gel-infused memory foam and a convoluted 1.5″ memory foam layer. Both of these layers combine for a total 2.5″ comfort layer designed with pressure relief, cooling, and comfort in mind.
In the center 3rd of the mattress sits a 0.5″ gel memory foam layer. This layer helps to create lumbar support and reduce body impressions over time.

As mentioned above, 2.5″ is a little thin. For heavier sleepers or those especially concerned with pressure relief, I would have liked to have seen a thicker comfort layer.
The Support Layer
There is a pocketed coil support system where 8.0″ coils are individually encased in a thin fabric. This allows the coils to move independently of each other, which limits motion transfer as well as improves pressure relief.

At the edge of the mattress, the Saatva Hybrid uses a 4.0″ thick poly foam that extends from the top to the bottom of the mattress. This perimeter foam improves edge support and overall performance.
Product Evolution
The Saatva memory foam hybrid mattress was added to the Saatva lineup in 2022.
This mattress was added to the Saatva collection including the Saatva Classic, Loom and Leaf, and Saatva Latex Hybrid. This mattress is the first memory foam hybrid released by Saatva.

Other Mattresses to Consider
Made it this far, but still not sure if the Saatva memory foam hybrid is the right pick for you? Check out these three other top-rated mattresses you might want to consider.
For Plus-Sized Sleepers

Winkbed
9.82 Overall Score
The Winkbed mattress has a 14″ high profile and 5.0″ of comfort material (compared to only 2.5″ on the Saatva Hybrid). If you’re a heavier sleeper or just especially worried about pressure relief, the Winkbed could be a better option for you, as this mattress can support sleepers up to 900 lbs.
For Motion Transfer

Bear Hybrid
Balanced feel, great cooling
The Bear hybrid mattress has much lower motion transfer than the Saatva Hybrid—6.58 m/s² on the Bear compared to 10.11 m/s² on the Saatva. In addition to better motion transfer, the Bear Hybrid also has a thicker 13″ profile.
For Zippered Cover

Nest Bedding Sparrow
Three Firmness Options
The Nest Bedding Sparrow mattress is a hybrid that has a 3″ top layer of foam that comes in three different firmnesses. A zippered cover allows for easy access to this layer so you can swap out this top layer for a different firmness, as needed.
