- Natural, organic materials and a 2.0″ thick latex comfort layer
Considerations
- High levels of motion transfer
- Only 10″ profile may not be suitable for heavier weighted sleepers
- Strong off-gassing odors
Our Verdict
The EcoSleep mattress is a latex hybrid that combines a 2.0″ layer of aerated latex with a pocketed coil support base.
It has a slightly firm feel that makes it a good choice for back or stomach sleepers.
The EcoSleep offers minimal sinkage and very high bounce, which makes for an incredibly lively surface that’s easy to move around on.
In terms of performance, Ecosleep earned an overall performance score of 8.29. This is the lowest-scoring latex hybrid we’ve tested to date (comparing 25 different mattresses).
At $995.25 it’s also one of the lowest-priced latex hybrids we’ve tested. If you’re looking for a budget latex hybrid under $1000, the EcoSleep is really the only mattress that gets you in that ballpark. And if you don’t mind the 10″ thickness or motion transfer, it can still be a solid pick.

How is EcoSleep Different?
The EcoSleep hybrid mattress has below-average overall performance, but also a price that saves over $600 compared to the average latex hybrid.
Advantages
Beyond the great value price, this mattress also had better cooling than average, fast material response time, great edge support, and above-average sex performance.
Neutral Factors
This mattress has low levels of sinkage, 15% less than average, and also high levels of bounce, 46% more bounce than average. These factors are not so much good or bad, but more a matter of personal preference.
Disadvantages
Two of the biggest disadvantages of the EcoSleep include the high level of motion transfer as well as the thinner overall thickness. The EcoSleep is only 10″ thick, 1.9″ thinner than the average mattress.
A thinner overall thickness makes the mattress prone to pressure relief issues, especially for heavier sleepers or side sleepers in general.
Cooling Test
The EcoSleep mattress has excellent cooling. During our tests, I did not feel any significant level of heat retention around my body. The mattress uses a basic, but proven material design that is effective at reducing heat.
Baseline Temp.
77.4° F
Max Temp.
91.7° F
Ending Temp.
82.1° F
Max Temp.

Ending Temp

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
We have a support layer of coils that create plenty of airflow. And we have a latex comfort layer, which doesn’t retain much heat, especially compared to many poly and memory foams.
In our objective tests, we measured a max surface level temperature of 91.7° F. From minutes 0 to 1 the temperature dropped by 4.8°, which is 0.28° cooler than average. From minutes 0 to 5 the temperature dropped by 9.6°, which is 2.66° cooler than average.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

The EcoSleep has a level of cooling performance on par with most other latex hybrid mattresses we’ve tested.
Given the objective data, subjective experience, and material design, I expect most sleepers will be perfectly happy with the cooling performance of EcoSleep.
Sinkage Test
The EcoSleep has a minimal level of pressure point sinkage. In our tests, we measured a sinkage depth of 1.81”. This is 0.33” less sinkage than the average of 2.14”, based on all of our tests to date.
Sinkage Depth
1.81″
Sinkage Feel
Minimal
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

Like most latex hybrids, the EcoSleep has a generalized body contouring hug. The mattress creates more of a circular depression around the body.
This is in contrast to how most memory foam and many poly foam mattresses create a dramatic and exacting body contour. The more generalized hug helps many sleepers not feel stuck or overly hugged by the mattress, while also ensuring it’s easier to move around on.
Motion Transfer Test
The EcoSleep has an extremely high level of motion transfer. In our tests, we measured an acceleration range of 17.16 m/s². This is 95.4% more motion transfer than the average of 8.78 m/s². This is the 3rd highest motion transfer we have tested to date.
Max. Acceleration
6.90 m/s²
Min. Acceleration

Accel. Range
17.16 m/s²
The level of motion transfer is also documented in the video below.
The combination of latex hybrid, slightly firmer coil unit, thin quilted layer, and relatively thin latex comfort layer are all working together to create the environment for higher motion.
In our motion transfer chart, which visualizes our accelerometer data, we see the highest motion spikes from 0 to 0.71 seconds. Motion drops thereafter, but it’s not until 1.35 seconds that we return to near-zero energy levels.

Neither the motion spikes nor motion duration paints a pretty picture. There can be no mincing words here. The EcoSleep creates an extremely high level of motion transfer.
Response Test
The EcoSleep has an extremely fast material response. In our tests, we measured a mostly recovered response time of 0.2 seconds and a fully recovered response time of 0.3 seconds. This is tied with the fastest-responding mattresses we’ve tested to date.
Mostly Recovered
0.2 sec.
Complete Recovery
0.3 sec.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
We were unsurprised by the level of responsiveness. Latex and latex hybrids generally rebound back to shape instantly and that’s exactly what we measured with EcoSleep.
The fast response ensures sleepers will never feel stuck and helps make the mattress easier to move around on.
Bounce Test
The EcoSleep has an extremely high level of bounce. In our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 13.91”. This is 4.37” more bounce than the average of 9.54”, which amounts to an increase of 45.8% more bounce than average.

Max Bounce Height

The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
This very high level of bounce is a double-edged sword. On one hand, it greatly benefits sex performance, resulting in a near-perfect sex score. However, it also greatly contributes to the high level of motion transfer.
Some sleepers will likely find this level of bounce to just be too much. Suffice to say, if you’re considering EcoSleep (or really any latex or latex hybrid) you should be prepared for a higher level of bounce.
Edge Support Test
The EcoSleep has outstandingly good sitting edge support and excellent lying edge support. In our sitting edge support tests, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.0”. This is 1.03” less sitting sinkage than the average of 4.03”.
Max Sinkage
3.00″
Lying Support
Excellent
Ideally, I like to see 4.0” of sitting sinkage or less. EcoSleep easily exceeded the benchmark I look for. Even when sitting directly on the edge of the mattress I felt well-supported and there was no material collapse.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

Lying edge support was nearly as good. I felt well supported in all sleeping positions even when lying directly on the edge of the mattress.
The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

The slightly firm feel of the mattress, combined with the relatively thin comfort layer, creates the right circumstances to deliver great edge support.
All that to say, I expect most sleepers will find this level of edge support to be more than sufficient.
Sex Test
The best mattresses for sex have high bounce, good edge support, quiet materials, and good pressure relief and cooling.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 10 | Extremely High |
Edge Support | 20% | 10 | Outstanding |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 8.0 | Good |
Cooling | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
These 5 factors make up the NapLab sex performance score.

The high level of bounce combined with the outstanding edge support gives the EcoSleep a fantastic sex score. This mattress is active and engaging, while still being supportive.
It’s basically everything you would want in a mattress specifically for sex. What makes the mattress great for sex also could be disadvantages when sleeping.
For example, the higher levels of motion transfer may disturb some sleepers. Also, the thinner profile may also create some pressure relief problems for heavier sleepers.
Pressure Relief Test
Pressure relief on the EcoSleep mattress is good, but far from great. In our tests, I felt a slight level of pressure point build-up.
Comfort Layer
2.0″
Support Layer
8.0″
When we look at the material design, it’s easy to see why. This is a relatively thin 10.0” mattress with a thin 2.0” comfort layer. 2.0” of comfort material, even if it’s latex, just isn’t enough to create ample pressure relief.

The latex is on top of a fairly firm pocketed coil unit that creates a lot of pushback. This pushback means we have great support, but when it’s paired with just a 2.0” comfort layer it results in a pressure-relief dynamic that leaves something to be desired.
Based on all of our tests to date, we have seen an average comfort layer of 4.1” thick. Needless to say, the 2.0” EcoSleep natural latex comfort layer is well short of that.
Off-Gassing Test
Off-gassing on the EcoSleep mattress was strong right out of the box. It took 14 days to fully off-gas, which is twice as long than our average off-gassing period of 7 days.
Initial Smell Strength
Strong
Off-Gassing Period
14 days
That being said, the odor was not a chemical odor—more so just the smell of natural latex, which smells like rubber.

Company
The company score takes a look at factors that may influence your experience with the mattress.
Factors include length of the trial period, warranty, shipping / return costs, and country of origin.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|
Trial Period | 15% | 8.0 | 120 nights |
Warranty | 10% | 8.0 | Lifetime |
Shipping | 5% | 10 | $0 |
Returns | 20% | 10 | $0 |
Trust | 50% | 10 | Outstanding |
Country of Origin | 0% | USA |
EcoSleep offers a 120-night trial period and a lifetime warranty. This is 58 nights shorter than the average trial period, but still should be sufficiently long enough to decide if you like the mattress or not.

However, with a lifetime warranty, EcoSleep is among the 29% of mattresses that offer a warranty that long—the average being only 13 years.
How firm is EcoSleep?
The EcoSleep mattress has a firmness of 7 out of 10, which gives it a slightly firm feel.

This firmness is a tough firmer than the medium-firms, which is the most common mattress firmness we test.
Support & Sleeping Positions
The EcoSleep creates great support. In our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions. While the mattress is relatively thin at 10.0” thick, it uses high-quality materials, including a robust pocketed coil unit.
On the downside, the coil unit isn’t zoned and doesn’t include reinforced edge support coils. However, the coil unit feels a little firmer, which helps to provide an increased level of support for the mattress.

It also means the mattress is a little firmer in general, giving it a slightly firm feel (7 out of 10 on our firmness scale). This firmness is better suited to the needs of stomach and back sleepers, in addition to heavier-weighted bodies.
However, many lighter / moderate weighted sleepers and side sleepers may find the combined firmer coil unit, firmer overall profile, and 2.0” comfort layer don’t create the right support dynamic.
Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleepers | Side Sleepers | Back Sleepers |
---|---|---|---|
Under 150 lbs. | Yes | No | Yes |
150-250 lbs. | Yes | Maybe | Yes |
250-300 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
Design
The EcoSleep is a latex hybrid mattress that is 10″ thick and has a firmness of 7 out of 10 with a slightly firm feel.
Type
Latex Hybrid
Thickness

It has a neutral color scheme and includes a mix of natural and organic materials for a more eco-friendly and sustainable mattress.
Materials
The EcoSleep mattress has two layers, the top being devoted to comfort and the bottom being devoted to support. Layers include:
- 2.0″ natural latex
- 8.0″ pocketed coils

The Cover
The cover of the EcoSleep mattress is organic cotton, thin, and breathable. There is no tufting detail or any real plushness.

Organic wool is used as a fire barrier at the base of the cover before the comfort layer begins.
The Comfort Layer
The comfort layer is a 2.0″ slab of hole-punched Talalay latex. This layer is naturally derived—designed for breathability, fast material response, and active levels of bounce.

The Support Layer
The support layer is 8.0″ high and made of encased pocketed coils.

The mattress is encased in a wool base, which helps with natural fire suppression and also limits noise levels from the coils.
Product Evolution
The EcoSleep mattress was launched in 2018. In the earliest version of this mattress, this mattress was flippable, with two firmnesses offered, one on each side.

Flippable EcoSleep: Original Version
- Organic cotton cover
- 1.5″ latex foam (soft)
- 1.5″ latex foam (transitional)
- 6.0″ pocketed coils
- 1.5″ latex foam (firmer)
- Organic cotton cover
In 2022, the mattress was updated to use a flippable top foam with a zippered cover instead of flipping the whole mattress.
Flippable EcoSleep: 2022 Version
- Organic cotton cover
- 1.5″ latex foam (soft)
- 1.5″ latex foam (firm)
- 8.0″ pocketed coils
- 0.25″ base
The 2023 Version is no longer flippable, including neither flippable foams nor a zippered cover.
- Organic cotton cover
- 2″ latex foam
- 8.0″ pocketed coils
The biggest change (beyond the lack of flip) is the reduction from 3.0″ of latex comfort layers to 2.0″. That is a significant reduction in total comfort layer.
