Best For
- High levels of bounce
- Natural, organic materials (latex, cotton, wool)
- Very fast response time
- Excellent cooling—natural Talalay latex + pocketed coils
Considerations
- More bounce leads to more motion transfer
- Heavier-weight bodies, especially side sleepers, may find mid-section support isn’t a good fit
Our Verdict
The Amerisleep Organica mattress is an organic hybrid made of natural latex, organic wool, organic cotton, and a pocketed coil support system.
During our performance tests, this mattress had excellent cooling, a very fast response time, and extremely high levels of bounce. But with more bounce also comes higher levels of motion transfer so keep that in mind.
At this price point, I am extremely pleased with the overall performance of the Organica. While motion transfer leaves something to be desired, beyond that, performance is fantastic.

How is the Organica Different?
The Amerisleep Organica, at its core, is a natural organic latex hybrid. Taking the best of both worlds (coils and natural materials), the Organica is designed for luxury performance.
#1. Natural Latex
The Amerisleep Organica is the only mattress by Amerisleep to use natural latex and organic materials. While their memory foam mattresses do use a plant-based Bio-PUR foam, it is unmatched by the natural benefits and feel of an organic latex mattress.
#2. Non-Toxic + Fiberglass Free
The Amerisleep Organica uses organic cotton, organic Talalay latex, and a 100% organic wool fire barrier. This mattress skips plastics, adhesives, fiberglass, and harmful chemicals and is made with materials certified by GOTS, OEKO-TEK, the Rainforest Alliance, and eco-INSTITUT.
Cooling Test
Cooling performance on the Amerisleep Organica is excellent. In our cooling tests, I felt no significant level of heat retention around my body.
Baseline Temp.
80.6° F
Max Temp.
89.1° F
Ending Temp.
83.2° F
The Organica mattress is a latex hybrid, so it’s got a lot going for in terms of cooling.
Max Temp.

Ending Temp

- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (5 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
Natural latex as a material type doesn’t retain heat in the same way that poly foam and memory foam do.
Furthermore, the layer of support coils ensures there is ample airflow and breathability for the mattress at large.
When we look at the heat dissipation chart we see a solid performance. The max surface level temperature was 89.1° F, which is 0.3° F cooler than the average.
Heat dissipation from minutes 0 to 5 was slightly worse than average. However, since Organica started 0.3° F cooler at the max temp it makes sense that the minute-by-minute declines wouldn’t be as large.
Heat Dissipation Over Time

When we consider the complete picture of objective data, subjective experience, and material analysis, I am confident in my assertion that the Amerisleep Organica provides excellent cooling.
Sinkage Test
The Amerisleep Organica has a deep level of sinkage. In our pressure point sinkage tests, we measured a sinkage depth of 2.57”. This is 0.32” deeper than the average sinkage of 2.25” (based on all of our tests to date).
The level of sinkage is documented in the image below.

The Organica has a more restrained and generalized contouring hug, especially compared to memory foam and poly foam. This more generalized contour is due to the natural latex comfort layer.
Natural latex doesn’t as sharply wrap around your body. As a result, this gives it a more balanced feel.
Sleepers who dislike more typical poly and memory foam may find latex to be a good alternative as it’s often easier to transition from spring and other coil-based mattresses.
Motion Transfer Test
The Amerisleep Organica has a high level of motion transfer. In our tests, we measured 13.32” m/s² of acceleration range.
This is nearly double the average motion transfer of 6.86 m/s² (based on all of our tests to date).
The level of motion transfer is documented in the video below.
Latex by itself has a high level of motion, as do pocketed coils. When you combine these together in a latex hybrid design it’s no surprise that you end up with more motion transfer.
This isn’t the fault of Organica specifically, but rather the nature of latex hybrids in general.
If you want the other benefits of natural latex then you should be prepared for a mattress that has a higher level of motion transfer. Our motion transfer chart, which visualizes the accelerometer data, shows the motion more clearly.
Max. Acceleration
7.04 m/s²
Min. Acceleration
-6.28 m/s²
Accel. Range
13.32 m/s²
We can see a motion intensity peak from 0.00 to 0.07 seconds. However, the motion remains moderate to high until 0.78 seconds, before it begins to decline.
Even with the declines at 0.78 seconds, it isn’t until 1.42 seconds that motion returns to near-zero levels.

The motion intensity is well above average and the motion duration is longer than average. The mattresses with the lowest motion transfer are able to disperse all energy within 0.3 seconds.
Granted, these are also memory foam mattresses. There are always going to be pros and cons depending on the material type and design of the mattress. All foam and memory foam mattresses have lower motion transfer, but lack in other areas. Latex and latex hybrids have higher motion, but are cooler and more responsive.
Response Test
The Amerisleep Organica has a very fast material response time. In our tests, we measured a mostly recovered response time of 0.2 seconds and a fully recovered response time of 0.4 seconds.
This is nearly tied with the fastest mattresses we’ve tested to date.
Mostly Recovered
0.2 sec.
Complete Recovery
0.4 sec.
Latex foam has a near-instant response time. The Organica has a 0.5” quilted cover, which is slightly slower to respond compared to the instant speed of latex (which is why we see 0.4 seconds to fully recover). Even so, both of these times are well above average.
The level of responsiveness is documented in the video below.
On average, we see mattresses mostly recovered in 0.48 seconds and fully recovered in 0.91 seconds (based on all of our tests to date).
One major advantage of latex is that you’ll never feel stuck or have difficulty moving around on the bed. The materials rebound to shape instantly and you’ll always feel well-supported.
Bounce Test
The Amerisleep Organica has an extremely high level of bounce. In our tests, we measured a total bounce height of 14.43”. This is 5.2” more bounce than the average of 9.23” (based on all of our tests to date).
Max. Depth
6.48″
Max. Rebound
7.95″
Total Bounce
14.43″
As with many performance aspects of the Organica, the latex hybrid design is driving the high bounce. Latex by itself has a high level of bounce, as do pocketed coils.
Max. Sinkage Depth

Max Bounce Height

When you combine these materials together in a latex hybrid design you end up with a huge level of bounce. The higher level of bounce is without question having a negative impact on motion transfer.
However, what you lose in terms of motion transfer you gain in terms of the ability to easily move on the mattress and enhanced sex performance.
The level of bounce is also documented in the video below.
For sleepers who prefer a more traditional feel with respect to bounce, response, and ease of movement, the higher level of bounce from the latex should be a welcome addition.
Edge Support Test
The Amerisleep Organica has excellent edge support for both sitting and lying. In our sitting edge support test, we measured a sitting sinkage compression of 3.75”. This is 0.78” less compression than the average of 4.53”.
Max Sinkage
3.75″
Lying Support
Excellent
Less sitting compression is better as it yields better support when sitting directly on the edge of the mattress. In general, I like to see 4.0” or less.
The Organica meets and exceeds that mark. Lying edge support is equally as impressive. I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions even when lying directly on the edge.
The level of edge support while seated is documented in the images below.
Sitting, 140 lbs.

Sitting, 200 lbs.

The level of edge support while lying is documented in the images below.
Lying on Edge, 140 lbs.

Lying on Edge, 200 lbs.

Oftentimes, latex mattresses can struggle with edge support. I was pleasantly surprised by the level of edge support on the Organica.
Most likely, the improved edge support is resulting from a more robust and supportive coil unit.
Sex Test
Our sex rating formula looks at 5 different factors weighted based on their importance.

All factors are not equal in terms of significance, but each plays an important role.
Three of the most important factors are listed below with the associated testing scores:
Sex Bounce
10
Edge Support
9.6
Noise
10
In addition to the factors above, there are two other we consider as well, including pressure relief and cooling.
Here’s a look at the breakdown of how these 3 factors rank within the full formula:

We use the scores from all factors, plugged into the formula above, to derive a sex score for each mattress.
Sex Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Rating |
---|---|---|---|
Bounce | 65% | 10 | Extremely High |
Edge Support | 20% | 9.1 | Excellent |
Noise | 5% | 10 | Minimal |
Pressure Relief | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
Cooling | 5% | 9.0 | Excellent |
For the Amerisleep Organica, these individual factors generated a sex score of 9.7. This is a fantastic score and when you look at the factors that determine the score, it makes a lot of sense.

Bounce and edge support are two of the most important factors for good sex (making up 60% of the overall score) and the Organica excelled in both of these categories.
This mattress has high bounce, good edge support, and strong performance all around.
Pressure Relief Test
The Amerisleep Organica mattress has excellent pressure relief. The 0.5” quilted cover creates immediate softness for sleepers.
Comfort Layer
3.0″
Support Layer
9.0″
Below that, the 2.5” of natural latex creates a generalized contouring hug around the body. This is in contrast to memory foam, which has a more exacting and dramatic hug around the body.

With latex, you get a more generalized circular depression. This creates much of the pressure relief, but still maintains the more traditional mattress feel that many sleepers are more comfortable with.
Off-Gassing Test
The off-gassing smell of the Amerisleep Organica was strong right out of the box. And the smell lasted for 8 days.
Initial Smell Strength
Strong
Off-Gassing Period
8 days
Even though this is a longer duration than average (approx. 3 days), it’s worth noting that the smell isn’t an offensive chemical smell.
It’s more of a rubber smell, which is coming from the latex. It’s definitely strong, but it’s not as overpowering and irritating as a poly foam or memory foam typically is.
Company
Amerisleep offers free shipping and a 100-night trial period with a 30-night break-in period. This period covers the first 30 days of owning the mattress and in this window, you cannot initiate a refund.
This is a pretty standard practice and is designed to give your body a chance to get used to the mattress before deciding if it’s right for you.
If after the 30 days is up, you still want to return, you can do so for free within days 30-100 of the trial.
Company Factor | Factor Weight | Score | Data |
---|---|---|---|
Trial Period | 15% | 8.0 | 100 nights |

Throughout the lifetime of the mattress, Amerisleep backs all their mattresses with a 20-year warranty as well.
How firm is the Amerisleep Organica?
The Amerisleep Organica mattress is a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale where 10 is the most firm.

While this mattress is only available in a single firmness, it really hits that medium-firm feel that is considered to be suitable for the widest range of sleepers.
Support & Sleeping Positions
The Amerisleep Organica creates excellent support. Throughout our tests, I felt well-supported in all sleeping positions. The 12” overall thickness is thick enough to create sufficient support for sleepers up to 300 pounds.
The Organica uses just 3.0” of comfort materials (0.5” quilted cover + 2.5” natural latex). This is on the thinner side, with many modern mattresses today using 4-6” of comfort material.

A thinner comfort layer keeps sinkage and hug more restrained, while also helping to keep the price point lower.
However, heavier-weight bodies, especially side sleepers, may find mid-section support isn’t a good fit.
All that said, for the vast majority of sleepers, I am confident in the Organica mattress. The 12” thickness, natural latex, and overall performance give me great confidence.
Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleepers | Side Sleepers | Back Sleepers |
---|---|---|---|
Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
150-250 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
250-300 lbs. | Yes | Maybe | Yes |

Materials
The Amerisleep Organica has four layers. From top to bottom, here’s the breakdown.
- 0.5” quilted cover
- 1.5” natural latex
- 1.0” natural latex
- 8.0” pocketed coils

The Cover
The Amerisleep Organica has a knitted top cover with woven sides and a box-quilted top. It is made with GOTS organic cotton and is soft and breathable.

At the base of the cover is a thin layer of organic wool, which helps to add comfort and transition into the layers below.
The Comfort Layer
Beyond the quilted cover is the comfort layer, which is made up of two layers of natural latex. Both layers are about the same thickness although the density and feel of each foam are quite different.

The top foam is a soft Talalay latex and the lower foam is Talalay latex with a medium firmness to it.
The firmer, denser feel of the bottom layer helps to act as a transitional layer into the support layer below.

The Support Layer
Moving right along, the support layer is an 8.0″ layer of pocketed coils followed by a 1.0″ wool border. This layer is wrapped by a wool border, which helps to limit noise and help support the coils.

Product Evolution
The Organica mattress was launched at the end of 2020 and has undergone no major changes since its release. Over time, it’s not uncommon for mattresses to have slight changes in design, materials, etc.
If the Organica does see changes in the future, we will be sure to update this section.
