Performance Tests
We test 9 different factors that impact the comfort and feel of the mattress, as well as assessing the company as a whole.
Testing categories include:
- Cooling
- Sinkage
- Motion Transfer
- Response
- Bounce
- Edge Support
- Sex
- Pressure Relief
- Off-Gassing
- Company
Cooling Test
The cooling performance of the Nectar mattress was good, although not the absolute best. The table below shows how the three mattresses compared amongst themselves.
Cooling Test | Score | Baseline | Max Temp | Ending Temp |
---|---|---|---|---|
Nectar Original | 8.0 | 83.0° | 90.6° | 85.0° |
Nectar Premier | 9.0 | 80.7° | 90.5° | 86.6° |
Nectar Premier Copper | 9.0 | 84.4° | 90.6° | 87.2° |
- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (after 5 minutes) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
Of these three, the Nectar Premier and Nectar Premier Copper are the top-performing mattresses. All three of the Nectar mattresses have a blend of gel memory foam, poly foam, and support foam, but each model has a different cover with the Premier & Premier Copper also have higher-quality memory foams.
Here’s a rundown of each cover:
- Standard cover: The Nectar Original has a standard cover that is soft and breathable, but not necessarily doing any favors for cooling.
- Cooling cover: The Nectar Premier uses a more advanced cooling cover. There are phase change materials used within the top comfort layer which helps heat to dissipate throughout the mattress.
- Copper-infused cover: The Nectar Premier Copper uses a copper fiber that is woven throughout and offers optimal cooling performance among all three Nectars.
Compare the Models
Below, you can watch a video of how the heat dissipates on each mattress during our cooling test. For this test, we lie on the mattress for 15 minutes, get off the mattress, and then take periodic surface-level temperature measurements.

Sinkage Test
Overall, the level of sinkage is pretty similar between all three Nectar mattresses.
You can see the slight differences in the table below.
Sinkage Test | Sinkage Feel | Sinkage Depth |
---|---|---|
Nectar Original | Moderate | 2.03″ |
Nectar Premier | Moderate | 2.23″ |
Nectar Premier Copper | Moderate | 2.22″ |
There is about a 1/4″ difference between the Nectar Original and the Nectar Premier or Premier Copper, but this is pretty negligible when considering the overall feel.

Motion Transfer Test
Motion transfer is important for many sleepers, and for good reason. The way motion is absorbed or transferred across a sleeping surface can wake partners or even disturb your own sleep.
Motion Transfer Test | Score | Acc. Range |
---|---|---|
Nectar Original | 10 | 2.67 m/s² |
Nectar Premier | 10 | 2.80 m/s² |
Nectar Premier Copper | 10 | 1.88 m/s² |
The level of motion transfer on the Nectar mattresses is documented in the videos below.
Nectar Original
Nectar Premier
Nectar Premier Copper
All three of these Nectar mattresses had very low motion transfer. The average amount of motion transfer of all mattresses we’ve tested to date is 6.03 m/s².
Using this number as a basis, Nectar mattresses have less than half the levels of motion transfer that we see on average.
The graphs below show a quantifiable version of motion transfer based on accelerometer data.
Nectar Original: Accelerometer Data

Nectar Premier: Accelerometer Data

Nectar Premier Copper: Accelerometer Data

As you can see from the accelerometer charts, each Nectar mattress peaks early on and generates a similar amount of motion transfer.
The Nectar Original generates the most motion at 2.67 m/s², but the motion is absorbed fairly quickly. By 0.5 seconds (on all Nectar mattresses) that motion is virtually gone.
The mattress that has the least amount of motion transfer was the Nectar Premier Copper, but the mattress that absorbed the energy the fastest was the Nectar Premier.
Response Test
Moving right along, let’s talk about response time. Response time is how quickly the materials in a mattress return to their original shape after having pressure applied.
To determine this, we place a weighted medicine ball and then measure how long it takes the materials to recover. The results of our tests are shown below.
Response Test | Score | Mostly Recovered | Completely Recovered |
---|---|---|---|
Nectar Original | 5.0 | 3.0 seconds | 5.0 seconds |
Nectar Premier | 8.7 | 0.4 seconds | 0.8 seconds |
Nectar Premier Copper | 9.4 | 0.3 seconds | 0.5 seconds |
As the table shows, the Nectar Premier Copper has the fastest response time, closely followed by the Nectar Premier.
The Nectar Original has a more traditional memory foam feel, which also means it has a much slower response time as well. This had a big impact on the response score and hurt the Nectar Original’s score in this area.
For a level of responsiveness for each mattress is documented in the videos below.

Bounce Test
Bounce Test | Bounce Feel | Bounce Height |
---|---|---|
Nectar Original | Very Low | 4.76″ |
Nectar Premier | Low | 7.10″ |
Nectar Premier Copper | Very Low | 5.14″ |
Bounce on the Nectar mattresses are all pretty low. The average level of bounce across all mattresses tested to date is 9.03″.
All three Nectars fell well below that baseline number making them less bouncy than average.
You can see the bounce levels in real-time in the videos below.
Nectar Original
The Nectar Original had the lowest bounce at only 4.76″ total, closely followed by the Nectar Premier Copper at 5.14″.
Nectar Premier
At 7.10″, the Nectar Premier had the most bounce among these three mattresses, but as I mentioned, these numbers are still well below the average amount of bounce.
Nectar Premier Copper
Edge Support Test
Edge support is the area where the Nectar struggled the most.
Check out the table below for a full rundown of edge support on the complete collection:
Edge Support Test | Score | Sitting Sinkage | Lying Support |
---|---|---|---|
Nectar Original | 6.0 | 6.25″ | Mediocre |
Nectar Premier | 6.4 | 7.25″ | Good |
Nectar Premier Copper | 7.5 | 6.25″ | Excellent |
The level of edge support on the Nectar mattresses is documented in the images below.
Nectar – Sitting

Nectar – Lying

When sitting directly on the edge the Nectar Original had 6.25″ of compression and was also significantly unsupportive when lying directly on the edge.
I felt like the mattress could easily roll me off the mattress. That being said, when I scooted over, more toward the middle, I found the level of support to be more appropriate.
Nectar Premier – Sitting

Nectar Premier – Lying

The Nectar Premier also struggled with sitting edge support, compressing 7.25″. When lying, the support was significantly better than what we saw on the Nectar, as you can see in the photos above.
Nectar Premier Copper – Sitting

Nectar Premier Copper – Lying

Edge sinkage on the Nectar Premier Copper was 6.25″, the same as original Nectar. However, when lying, I thought the support was excellent. At no point did I feel like I was going to roll off the mattress.
The average edge sinkage among all mattresses that we’ve tested to date is 4.21″, so this is still more sinkage than average, but I felt supported.
Sex Test
Considering five factors we deem critical to good sex performance (bounce, edge support, noise, pressure relief, and cooling), the best Nectar mattress for sex is the Nectar Premier.
But let’s be clear, none of these mattresses are really great for sex. For better sex performance, I would recommend checking out the lineup of Nectar Hybrids, which have higher levels of bounce and better edge support.
Sex Test | Sex Score | Bounce | Edge Support | Noise | Pressure Relief | Cooling |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Nectar Original | 6.0 | 5.4 | 5.9 | 10 | 9.0 | 8.0 |
Nectar Premier | 6.8 | 6.9 | 4.7 | 10 | 9.0 | 9.0 |
Nectar Premier Copper | 6.3 | 5.7 | 5.9 | 10 | 9.0 | 9.0 |
If you strictly want to stay with 100% foam, the Premier offers the best bounce over the other two Nectars. Edge support hurts the score a little, but noise, pressure relief, and cooling are all on par.
Runner up to the Nectar Premier is the Premier Copper. This mattress has less bounce than the Premier, but also better edge support so the two factors kind of balance each other out in a way.
Lastly, we have the Nectar Original. This mattress has the lowest levels of bounce as well as less-than-ideal edge support and cooling.
Pressure Relief Test
Pressure Relief Test | Score | Comfort Layer | Support Layer |
---|---|---|---|
Nectar Original | 9.0 | 5.0″ | 7.0″ |
Nectar Premier | 9.0 | 6.0″ | 7.0″ |
Nectar Premier Copper | 9.0 | 5.0″ | 9.0″ |
When considering pressure relief, three important numbers we like to look at includes:
- Comfort Layer
- Support Layer
- Total Thickness
The comfort layer helps to provide hug, contour, and support, while also preventing painful pressure points.
The support layer (as it sounds) provides support for the weight of the sleepers.
Total thickness is important to ensure that there is enough material for the weight to be distributed evenly and absorbed where needed.

Between the Nectar Original and the Nectar Premier, they both have a 3.0″ gel memory foam followed by poly foam, but the thickness of the poly foam is different.
On the Nectar Original, the polyfoam is 2.0″ and on the Nectar Premier, the poly foam is 3.0″. This extra inch of material gives the Nectar Premier a bit better pressure relief and comfort materials.

The Nectar Premier Copper has the thickest layer of gel memory foam among all three Nectars—4.0″—followed by a thinner 1.0″ layer of poly foam. It also uses a thicker layer of support

Both mattresses offer fantastic performance and exceptional pressure relief. Especially for heavier sleepers, the amount of comfort material on any given mattress plays a huge role in whether or not the mattress will be supportive.
Off-Gassing Test
Off-gassing on the Nectar mattresses is pretty consistent across all three models. Right out of the box it has a moderate to strong smell.
Off-Gassing Test | Score | Initial Smell | Smell Duration |
---|---|---|---|
Nectar Original | 8.9 | Moderate | 4 days |
Nectar Premier | 8.9 | Strong | 4 days |
Nectar Premier Copper | 9.2 | Strong | 3 days |
Upon unboxing, the smell takes somewhere between 3-4 days to fully dissipate. Putting the mattress in a well-ventilated room without sheets or other bedding will help this process complete faster.
Off-gassing is kind of a toss-up category. It really bothers some people, while others do not see it as a buying factor.
Regardless, once the process is complete, you shouldn’t have any issues with odors or strong smells coming off of any of these mattresses.
Company
When it comes to company policy, all Nectar mattresses have the same terms and conditions. They offer a long trial period, long warranty period, and free shipping (both ways).
Company | Nectar |
---|---|
Score | 9.0 |
Trial Period | 365 nights |
Warranty | Lifetime |
Shipping | $0 |
Returns | $0 |
Trust | Good |
Country of Origin | China |
The 365-night trial period is longer than most and really gives you a huge chunk of time to decide if this mattress is right for you.
If it’s not, you can return it for a full refund and Nectar will even pay return shipping costs.

If you decide that you do like the mattress, you can sleep well knowing that it is backed by a lifetime (limited) warranty.
All things considered, Nectar company policies are some of the most consumer-friendly terms in the industry.
How firm are Nectar mattresses?
Firmness | Rating | Feel |
---|---|---|
Nectar Original | 6.5 | Medium-Firm |
Nectar Premier | 5.5 | Medium |
Nectar Premier Copper | 5 | Medium |
All 3 Nectar mattresses are within the medium to medium-firm range. The Nectar Original is slightly firmer, making it a better choice for heavier-weight sleepers, stomach sleepers, and back sleepers.
The Nectar Premier Copper is slightly softer, making it a better choice for lighter-weight sleepers and side sleepers.
The Nectar Premier sits right in the middle of the Premier Copper and original Nectar mattress, making it a good option for a wider range of sleepers.
Support & Sleeping Positions
You can use the table below to decide if the Nectar firmness is right for you.
Sleeper Weight | Stomach Sleepers | Side Sleepers | Back Sleepers |
---|---|---|---|
Under 150 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
150-250 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
250-300 lbs. | Yes | Yes | Yes |
As you can see, this firmness is generally accepted by most sleepers. The exceptions would be sleepers who fall outside of this range.
- If you are UNDER 150 lbs., especially a side sleeper, you may prefer a softer mattress.
- If you are OVER 300 lbs., especially a stomach or back sleeper, you may prefer a firmer mattress.

Design
All three of the Nectar mattresses are combo foam blends. They each have a gel memory foam, a poly foam, and a support foam base.
Design | Type | Mattress Thickness |
---|---|---|
Nectar Original | Memory Foam | 12.0″ |
Nectar Premier | Memory Foam | 13.0″ |
Nectar Premier Copper | Memory Foam | 14.0″ |

Nectar vs. Nectar Premier vs. Nectar Premier Copper: Which Should You Buy?
Okay so all details aside, which mattress is right for you? Here is a quick rundown of some of the best features that each Nectar mattress offers.

The original Nectar mattress is best for sleepers who want a traditional memory foam feel. It has got a slow response and sharper contour that creates a classic memory foam hug around the body.
The slightly firmer feel with a 6.5 firmness makes it better suited for sleepers with heavier bodies, especially back and stomach sleepers. Lighter-weight side sleepers in particular should probably avoid this model.

The Nectar Premier mattress is best for a wide variety of sleepers. The 5.5 firmness, good cooling, good pressure relief, and supportive design make it well-suited for most body types and sleeping positions.
If you just need a great all-around mattress in the middle price tier this it. The only major downside is a lack of edge support. If you utilize your mattress edges often (sitting, sleeping, sex, etc.) then you should pick something else.

The Nectar Premier Copper mattress is best for a variety of sleepers. It shares many similarities to the Nectar Premier mattress but improves edge support.
If you like the sounds of the Nectar Premier but want better edge support then the Nectar Premier Copper mattress is the right choice. This is one of the best memory foam mattresses we’ve tested to date.
