Our Verdict
The Leesa mattress company launched in 2015, offering a single all-foam mattress designed to have a “universal feel” suitable for every body type. Ten years later, their product line has expanded into a dozen mattresses that include all-foam, hybrid, memory foam hybrid, and plus-sized designs.
Across these 12 mattresses, Leesa mattresses have a range of firmness options from soft (4) to firm (8). Their feel is one that leans towards minimal to moderate sinkage levels and generally less bouncy than most mattresses, with the exception of a few with high bounce.
In our performance tests, Leesa mattresses have an average performance score of 8.93, significantly higher than the average (8.53). Across our reviews, they have scores from 8.43 to 9.47 (the third-highest score to date).
From a pricing perspective, they offer a wide range of models with upgrades like the Chill series for increased cooling, so sleepers have options as low as $599 and as high as $2,774. On average, Leesa mattresses cost $1,508 for a queen-size. This is only about $20 higher than the average price based on all 390+ mattresses we’ve reviewed to date, making Leesa a solid value brand.
Across all Leesa models, we found exceptional performances at every price tier, so there is a fantastic Leesa mattress option that fits every budget.

Firmness
Leesa mattresses range from soft (4) to firm (8). However, the majority of mattresses they offer have a medium (5) or medium-firm (6) rating.
The upgraded Leesa Chill mattresses offer some soft and firm options along with their enhanced cooling performance.
This means that the least expensive soft mattress option is the Leesa Oasis Chill at $1,259 for a queen, and the least expensive firm mattress they offer is the Leesa Sapira Chill at $1,809.
| Firmness | Rating | Feel |
|---|---|---|
| Leesa Legend | 5 | Medium |
| Leesa Legend Chill | 5 | Medium |
| Leesa Natural Hybrid | 6 | Medium-Firm |
| Leesa Oasis Chill | 4, 6 | Soft, Medium-Firm |

| Leesa Studio Chill | 6 | Medium-Firm |
Not sure which firmness you need? Your ideal mattress firmness depends on two major factors—sleeping position and body weight. With the right firmness, your body and spine will maintain proper alignment when sleeping.

Lightweight sleepers or those who sleep on their side tend to need a softer mattress. By comparison, heavier sleepers or those who sleep on their back or stomach tend to need more support and a firmer feel.

Cooling Test
First, let’s talk about cooling performance. In terms of keeping you cool while you sleep, these popular Leesa models will get the job done. On average, they earned a 9.3 cooling score.
| Cooling Test | Score | Baseline | Max. Temp. | Ending Temp. |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Leesa Original | 9.0 | 83.6° | 92.1° | 86.5° |
| Leesa Sapira | 10 | 81.2° | 90.0° | 83.5° |
| Leesa Legend | 9.0 | 81.2° | 91.2° | 84.0° |
- Baseline Temperature – the temperature of the mattress before anyone lies on it
- Maximum Temperature (0 minute) – the temperature of the mattress after lying on it for 15 minutes
- Ending Temperature (after 5 minutes) – the temperature of the mattress after being lied upon and having no one on it for 5 minutes
Below, you can watch a video of how the heat dissipates on each mattress during our cooling test. For this test, we lie on the mattress for 15 minutes, get off the mattress, and then take periodic surface-level temperature measurements.
Leesa Original
Leesa Sapira
Leesa Legend
The average cooling score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.6.
Hybrid mattresses like the Sapira and Legend have an advantage when it comes to breathability, as the pocketed coils allow for better airflow over all-foam designs, like the Original. However, the thin design of the Leesa Original is also an advantage.

The poly foam used in Leesa mattresses is ultra-responsive and less prone to heat buildup, like a latex foam might be. Their choice to place the denser memory foam layer under the poly foam and cover further avoids potential heat retention within the foam layers.
The Leesa Sapira proved to have the best cooling overall, with an outstanding 10/10 score. If one of your primary concerns with your mattress is avoiding overheating, any one of these popular Leesa mattresses should do the trick, but if you want the best, go with the Leesa Sapira.
The Sapira Chill is also an option for great cooling, but in our tests, the Chill actually had a lower overall performance score compared to the regular Sapira.
Sinkage Test
When it comes to measuring sinkage depth, Leesa mattresses lean towards more minimal or moderate levels of sinkage.
The three popular Leesa models have an average sinkage depth of 2.00, which is right on the threshold that separates a minimal and moderate rating.
| Sinkage Test | Sinkage Feel | Sinkage Depth |
|---|---|---|
| Leesa Original | Moderate | 2.09″ |
| Leesa Sapira | Moderate | 2.05″ |
| Leesa Legend | Minimal | 1.88″ |
The level of sinkage for each mattress is documented in the images below.
Leesa Original

Leesa Sapira

Leesa Legend

The average sinkage depth across all mattresses tested to date is 2.23″.
Back and stomach sleepers usually prefer less sinkage, which better maintains proper alignment of their spine. The Leesa Original (2.09″), Leesa Sapira (2.05″), and Leesa Legend (1.88″) all have less sinkage than average and are exceptionally good for these sleeping positions.
This isn’t to say they wouldn’t be suitable for side sleeping, but side sleepers typically enjoy a deeper level of sinkage to ensure the spine is able to reach a neutral alignment.

We still rate all three Leesa models as suitable for all positions. However, dedicated side sleepers may prefer a mattress that breaks into the “deep” rating threshold of 2.30″. The Leesa Chill versions come with a quilted cover that provides a thicker comfort layer, and in turn, have deeper sinkage, making them a better match for side sleeping.
Are you over 300 lbs.? Heavier sleepers generally need a mattress with a firmer feel to maintain optimal support. The Leesa Plus Hybrid has moderate sinkage and sufficient support for heavier body weight.
Motion Transfer Test
For motion transfer, we try to assess the likelihood that couples will disturb each other with movements while they sleep. Leesa mattresses are particularly impressive for couples, in terms of low motion transfer.
The three popular Leesa mattresses earned an average motion transfer performance score of 10/10, with each one earning this top score.
| Motion Transfer Test | Score | Acc. Range |
|---|---|---|
| Leesa Original | 10 | 2.06 m/s² |
| Leesa Sapira | 10 | 4.66 m/s² |
| Leesa Legend | 10 | 4.38 m/s² |
The level of motion transfer on each mattress is also documented in the videos below.
Leesa Original
Leesa Sapira
Leesa Sapira
The average motion transfer score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.2. This is a typical category for mattresses to struggle with, especially those with a hybrid design.
The Leesa Original has an advantage for motion transfer due to its all-foam construction. This is why we see a considerably lower motion acceleration measurement at 2.06 m/s²
But the Sapira and Legend models still do an excellent job isolating motion as well. The thin cover and high-quality comfort material help to deaden motion and prevent motion reverberation across the mattress from partner movements.
Overall, Leesa mattresses are among the best for couples who prioritize low motion transfer.
Response Test
Moving along, let’s talk about response time. This is a measure of how fast materials will reform after being compressed. Faster times indicate an advantage in general ease of movement. In our tests, Leesa consistently proved to be among the fastest mattresses we’ve measured to date.
The Leesa Original, Leesa Sapira, and Leesa Legend earned an average response time score of 9.6.
| Response Test | Score | Mostly Recovered | Completely Recovered |
|---|---|---|---|
| Leesa Original | 9.4 | 0.3 seconds | 0.5 seconds |
| Leesa Sapira | 9.5 | 0.3 seconds | 0.4 seconds |
| Leesa Legend | 9.9 | 0.2 seconds | 0.4 seconds |
The level of responsiveness for each mattress is documented in the videos below.
Leesa Original
Leesa Sapira
Leesa Legend
The average response score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.8.
The most responsive mattress among this collection is the Leesa Legend. Its design includes both a large coil unit in the support base and micro-coils within the comfort layer. Added to the latex-like poly foam in the topmost layer, and we have the makings of near-perfect response time performance.
This is another category that benefits from the top-most layer using poly foam over memory foam. While you don’t get the maximum benefit for comfort and pressure relief from the memory foam, this poly foam is ultra-fast to respond.

The response speeds we see in our tests allow us to confidently claim that sleepers need never fear a cratering sensation on Leesa mattresses that make movement difficult or awkward. Again, you won’t get the memory foam feel some sleepers prefer, but the trade-off is an extremely lively surface when you need to shift positions.
Bounce Test
For bounce, our measurement informs the type of feel one could expect while moving on the mattress. This is similar to response time but on a larger scale.
The three popular Leesa mattresses have varying levels of bounce that range from 7.94″ to 12.67″. On average, they have an average bounce height of 10.73″. Our measurement accounts for both the amount the weighted ball sinks into a mattress and how high it rebounds.
| Bounce Test | Bounce Feel | Bounce Height |
|---|---|---|
| Leesa Original | Low | 7.94″ |
| Leesa Sapira | Very High | 12.67″ |
| Leesa Legend | High | 11.57″ |
The level of bounce for each mattress is documented in the videos below.
Leesa Original
Leesa Sapira
Leesa Legend
The average bounce across all mattresses tested to date is 8.75″. By this measure, Leesa averages a higher measurement than this. However, the Leesa Original individually has lower bounce than average.
The all-foam design dissipates energy extremely effectively, which is a large benefit to motion transfer. Here, it limits bounce and creates a more calm, relaxed feeling.

On the other hand, the Leesa Sapira and Leesa Legend both managed high and very high levels of bounce.
My ideal bounce range is between 8 – 12″ for general ease of movement. These models easily clear the minimum I look for, but they start risking being too bouncy. Some might be turned off by an overly trampoline-like feel, and others will love the benefits it has for amorous activities.
Mattresses with more bounce are better for ease of movement and increase sex performance. However, higher bounce also typically creates a higher level of motion transfer. So there are pros and cons when it comes to bounce.
Edge Support Test
When it comes to edge support, we lie and sit on the edge of the mattress to measure its compression as well as the likelihood of sliding/falling off. Edge support is one area that is not a strong suit for Leesa mattresses.
The three most popular Leesa models earned an average edge support score of 7.7, with the scores ranging from 7.5 to 8.0.
| Edge Support Test | Score | Sitting Sinkage | Lying Support |
|---|---|---|---|
| Leesa Original | 8.0 | 5.50″ | Excellent |
| Leesa Sapira | 7.5 | 6.25″ | Excellent |
| Leesa Legend | 8.0 | 5.50″ | Excellent |
The level of edge support is documented in the images below.
Leesa Original

Leesa Sapira

Leesa Legend

The average edge support score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.7.
By this measure, the Leesa mattresses all have below-average edge support. On the bright side, they each earned an excellent rating when it comes to lying support. This means you can sleep close to the edge with little fear of sliding out of bed.
The Leesa Sapira had the highest amount of edge compression. Its design does not include any special set of reinforced coils or perimeter foam, as seen on mattresses with notably better edge support. The Leesa Legend has reinforced coils, but they don’t make a huge difference.

The Leesa Original is thinner, which means less foam to compress, and uses a solid block of support foam for its base. This outperforms the Leesa Sapira, but not by much either.
In the end, these scores don’t reflect a complete material collapse that would entirely prevent you from using the edge of these mattresses for getting ready in the morning or during amorous activities. But they won’t be ideal for those either.
Sex Test
Now for the sexiest mattress category, especially if you’re a fan of 5-factor weighted formulas. Our sex scores rely on data from bounce, edge support, noise, pressure relief, and cooling to create an objective sex review.
Leesa mattresses are slightly better than average when it comes to sex. Between the three of them, the popular Leesa models earned an average sex score of 8.6.
| Sex Test | Sex Score | Bounce | Edge Support | Noise | Pressure Relief | Cooling |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Leesa Original | 7.6 | 7.4 | 6.9 | 10 | 9.0 | 9.0 |
| Leesa Sapira | 9.1 | 10 | 5.9 | 8.0 | 10 | 10 |
| Leesa Legend | 9.0 | 9.7 | 6.9 | 8.0 | 9.0 | 9.0 |
The average sex score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.2. So compared to this average, Leesa, as a brand, is better than most when it comes to sex. The Leesa Original holds these three back from higher praise. At 7.6, the Original is serviceable but not great for intimacy.

The Leesa Sapira and Leesa Legends are excellent for sex. As far as bounce is concerned, they have more than an adequate amount. At these levels, the dance without pants is less strenuous for all participants.
The biggest issue for both of these models is their mediocre sitting edge support. As we discussed, this won’t completely shut the party down, but there is a lot of room for improvement. Couples are likely to avoid incorporating the edge for fear of falling off (or at least they’d want to scooch things back a bit).
Pressure Relief Test
Pressure relief is unquestionably one of the most important factors when it comes to choosing a mattress. Leesa mattresses excel in pressure relief. Their three most popular models earned a pressure relief score of 9.3.
| Pressure Relief Test | Score | Comfort Layer | Support Layer |
|---|---|---|---|
| Leesa Original | 9.0 | 4.00″ | 6.00″ |
| Leesa Sapira | 10 | 4.00″ | 7.00″ |
| Leesa Legend | 9.0 | 4.50″ | 7.00″ |
The average pressure relief score across all mattresses tested to date is 8.6.
Even Leesa’s 10″, $1,000 mattress (Leesa Original) has above-average pressure relief. This is the model that launched their company into the success they have today.
Curiously, the Leesa Legend also landed at this same excellent level of pressure relief, despite being nearly double the price. While the score is the same, I would strongly recommend the Legend for heavy people over the Leesa Original.
The materials included in each mattress are documented in the images below.
Leesa Original

Leesa Sapira

Leesa Legend

It’s extra support from the coil unit and micro coils mixed with the zoned support design makes it much better for heavier bodies.
Bigger doesn’t always mean better. The Leesa Sapira has 0.5″ less material than the Leesa Legend, but the Sapira has the best pressure relief score. It has a less nuanced design that doesn’t include zoned support, like the Legend. However, it proved to be comfortable, and I experienced no pressure point buildup in my tests.
There is a bit more nuance to our three mattresses that the 1-10 scores didn’t quite capture. However, we can confidently say that Leesa mattresses have better pressure relief compared to the average mattress.
Off-Gassing Test
When it comes to off-gassing, virtually all mattresses that arrive compressed in a box will have a strong smell during their initial unboxing. We measure the intensity of this smell along with the duration of time it takes to fully dissipate.
Leesa mattresses are fantastic in this area. On average, Leesa mattresses took 4.3 days to finish off-gassing in our tests.
| Off-Gassing Test | Score | Initial Smell | Smell Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| Leesa Original | 9.2 | Strong | 3 days |
| Leesa Sapira | 8.3 | Strong | 6 days |
| Leesa Legend | 8.9 | Strong | 4 days |
The average smell duration across all mattresses tested to date is 7.13 days.
By our tests, all Leesa mattresses off-gas quicker than average.

At 3 and 4 days, the Leesa Original and Leesa Legend models, respectively, are exceptionally quick. Sleepers who are sensitive to off-gassing odors should be much happier with these models.
However, waiting an extra 2 days (6 days total) for a mattress like the Leesa Sapira might very well be worth it, considering the smell will never come back once complete.
Company
Finally, let’s talk about Leesa’s basic company policies that may influence your purchasing decision. Leesa offers sleepers a 120-night trial period, a lifetime warranty, free shipping, and free returns.
These are fantastic consumer-friendly policies. The only nit-pick we have to justify the less-than-perfect score is that the trial period could be longer. Only having 120 nights is shorter than the average, while there are plenty of companies that offer a full year.
Check out the table below to see a detailed look at Leesa’s company policies.

|---|---|
| Score | 9.4 |
| Trial Period | 120 nights |
| Warranty | Lifetime |
| Shipping | $0 |

| Country of Origin | USA |
To date, we have tested 395+ mattresses from 106 different brands. The average trial length is 173 nights, and the average warranty is 13 years, excluding 41% of mattresses that offer lifetime warranties.
