A 2025 NapLab survey of 70,000 people found that 86% of us are side sleepers (at least some of the time), making it the most popular sleeping position by a large margin. That being said, side sleepers have their unique set of preferences and needs when it comes to achieving optimal support and comfort.

Our best mattress for side sleepers guide highlights the best-performing mattresses at a range of price points and firmnesses, all designed to meet the specific needs of side sleepers.
With that in mind, let’s get started.

Each best list is put through a customized performance analysis with specialized consideration given to our objective & data-driven performance tests. In addition, we consider mattress type, design, materials, value, price, and more.

For our Best Mattress for Side Sleepers list, we based our selections on the best-scoring mattresses, according to our battery of testing and formulaic-driven scoring.
Our tests analyze performance across 8 critical factors, including cooling, motion transfer, response time, edge support, sex, pressure relief, off-gassing, and company. In addition, we also test sinkage and bounce (though these are not scoring factors).
Our tests include objective and quantifiable data whenever possible. In addition, we use subjective assessment supported by data to round out our testing process.
Our scores are based on mathematical formulas and equations that utilize inputs from our data-driven testing.
In choosing the best mattresses for side sleepers we looked at the totality of all of our tests, scores, data, and reviews to date. We analyzed this data alongside our established best mattress framework here.
In addition to achieving a high-performance score, all mattresses on this list had to have soft (4 out of 10), medium (5 out of 10) or medium-firm (6 out of 10) feel. Most side sleepers are most comfortable at the 4-6 firmness range, where 10 is the most firm.
When selecting the best mattress for side sleepers, we’re looking at a combination of overall scoring performance, firmness, and US availability.
To be included within this best of list all mattresses:
- Had to have a firmness of 4-6 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm. This ranges from soft to medium-firm.
- Had to have a performance of 9.24 or higher
- Had to be available within the USA
- Latex and latex hybrid mattresses were limited to the the top 2 picks by score (that also met the above criteria). Latex has a polarizing feel that some love and some hate. It’s a far more polarizing feel than poly foam or memory foam. See our best latex mattresses list for more.

What firmness is best for side sleepers?
Most side sleepers need a mattress in the 5-6 out of 10 firmness range, which is between a medium and medium-firm feel. However, some side sleepers will enjoy extra soft (3-3.5) and soft (4-4.5) firmnesses, especially lighter-weight sleepers.

Heavier-weighted side sleepers sometimes prefer a slightly firmer feel (7-7.5), as the extra firmness increases the support, which can help to maintain neutral spinal alignment in heavier-weighted bodies.
Side sleepers should avoid firm (8-8.5) and extra firm (9-9.5) feels, as this level of firmness will push the spine out of a neutral alignment, creating pressure point and support issues.
If you are not sure what firmness is best for you check out our deep-dive mattress firmness guide here.
Winkbed Mattress

Best For
- High-quality materials
- Deep-contouring pillow top, while maintaining support
- Sleepers of all body types and sleeper weights (up to 300 lbs.)
Considerations
- Returns are free, but exchanges cost $49
- 14″ profile may not be great for a low-profile aesthetic
- Deep sinkage of 2.38″
Our Verdict
The WinkBed is a 13.5″ hybrid mattress that has a plush, Euro cover, poly foam comfort material, and a pocketed coil base.
The Winkbed is available in three different firmnesses—softer (4), luxury firm (6), and firmer (7), where 10 is the most firm. There is also the Winkbed Plus, which has a slightly firm (7) feel, ideal for heavier-weighted sleepers over 250 lbs.
In our tests, the Winkbed Luxury Firm had a balanced feel with deep sinkage and moderate bounce. We also tested the Winkbed Soft, which had extremely deep sinkage and slightly less bounce (9.68″ on the Soft and 9.91″ on the Luxury Firm). On both firmnesses, the Winkbed has a balanced feel and maintains limited heat retention with a very fast response time.
For side sleepers, this deeper sinkage provides great contour to help maintain spinal alignment. It has a 5.0″ comfort layer, which is also hugely beneficial to side sleepers of different sizes. The coil layer uses zoned support to allow for more or less support where your body needs it when lying on your side.
Winkbed has an exceptional performance score of 9.79 overall, which ranks it as the #1 hybrid, as well as within the top 1% among all mattress types we’ve tested to date.
The Winkbed in queen size is $1,499, which is 3% more expensive than the average hybrid mattress. With the best score we’ve ever seen at a price that’s just about average, the Winkbed is a phenomenal value mattress, no matter how you slice it.

Saatva Classic

Best For
- Plush euro-top cover & great cooling performance
- Moderate bounce with fast response time
- Ships uncompressed, includes in-home delivery, setup, & old mattress removal
Considerations
- Slower material response time
- $99 fee for returns if things don’t work out
- Costs 76% more than the average coil mattress
Our Verdict
The Saatva Classic has a thickness of 11.5″ or 14.5″, depending on personal preference (price is the same for both thicknesses), and a coil-on-coil construction. The cover is a plush Euro-top cover followed by a small amount of comfort foam and two layers of coils.
The Saatva is available in three firmness levels—Plush Soft (4), Luxury Firm (6), or Firm (8), where 10 is the most firm.
The Saatva Classic has a more traditional coil feel and less foam than a more typical hybrid mattress. This combination of materials gives the mattress deep sinkage and extremely high bounce while retaining low levels of motion transfer, something other coil mattresses tend to struggle with.
For side sleepers, this deeper sinkage provides great contour to help maintain spinal alignment. It has a 5.0″ comfort layer which is also hugely beneficial to side sleepers of different sizes. The coil layer uses a zoned support system to allow for more or less support where your body needs it when lying on your side.
This mattress has a fantastic performance score of 9.74 overall, which ranks it as the #1 coil mattress, as well as within the top 1% among all mattress types we’ve tested to date.
A Queen Saatva Classic costs $1,799. This is 24% more than the average mattress price we’ve testd.
I would recommend the Saatva Classic for sleepers who enjoy a more traditional coil-based mattress feel. It’s also a good choice for those who want full service delivery and removal of your old mattress (included for free).

Leesa Sapira

Best For
- Exceptionally good cooling
- Higher levels of bounce
- Fantastic pressure relief, despite only having an 11″ thickness
Considerations
- Sitting edge support is lacking, 6.25″ of sinkage
- Very high levels of bounce may not be ideal for all sleepers
- Priced 20% more than the average hybrid
Our Verdict
The Leesa Sapira is an 11″ hybrid that uses poly foam, memory foam, support foam, and a pocketed coil base. This dynamic use of different materials gives the Sapira a balanced feel.
The Sapira Hybrid comes in a single firmness, medium-firm, ranking 6 out of 10 on our firmness scale. For more firmness options, you may also want to check out the Sapira Chill, an evolution of the Sapira designed for cooling. The Sapira Chill comes in three firmness levels— soft (4), medium-firm (6), or firm (8).
This mattress has moderate levels of sinkage and very high levels of bounce. If you really enjoy an active feel, while still maintaining extremely low levels of motion transfer, the Sapira may be a good pick for you.
For side sleepers, the Sapira Hybrid is a great pick, specifically, thanks to its high-quality 4.0″ comfort layer and a 10/10 pressure relief score. For extra support, side sleepers may also want to check out the Leesa Saira Chill which has zoned support (extra coil support along the lumbar area) and is available in three firmness levels.
The Sapira Hybrid has a performance score of 9.47 overall, which ranks it among the top 1% of all mattresses tested to date.
The Sapira Hybrid costs 5% more than the average hybrid mattress, $1,599 for a queen. But you’re getting a higher-performing mattress than average as well.

Helix Midnight Luxe

Best For
- Incredible cooling performance with optional cooling pillow top
- Thick, quality memory foam creates fantastic pressure relief
- Edge support is extremely robust
Considerations
- Classic memory foam feel also creates low bounce and slow response
- Lackluster sex performance
- Price tag is higher than average by 31%
Our Verdict
The Helix Midnight Luxe mattress is a 14″ hybrid mattress comprised of memory foam, poly foam, pocketed coils, support foam, and a thick, foam-infused quilted cover.
The Helix Midnight Luxe is available in a single firmness level — medium-firm with a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale, where 10 is the most firm.
This mattress has moderate sinkage and low levels of bounce. This creates a surface that is stable and allows for a high degree of contour that slowly envelops your body.
For Side Sleepers, the Helix Midnight Luxe has a dense 2″ thick memory foam layer sandwiched between poly foam layers to provide plenty of comfort foam for hips and shoulders to sink into.
In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 9.43, ranking the mattress in the 1% of all mattresses tested to date.
The Helix Midnight Luxe is $1,899 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 31% percent more expensive than average. To be in the top 1% this difference of $445 is well worth it for most sleepers, especially for those who sleep on their side and like the feel of memory foam.

Nolah Natural

Best For
- Exceptionally good cooling
- Near-instantaneous material response
- High bounce and good edges create great sex performance
Considerations
- Edge support when sitting is good, but not great
- Costs $99 if you do a return
- Latex comfort layer can create a more polarizing feel. Some love it, some not so much.
Our Verdict
The Nolah Natural has an overall thickness of 11″ and an organic hybrid design—including an organic cotton cover, natural latex comfort layers, and a pocketed coil base.
This mattress is available in a single firmness—5 out of 10 with a medium feel.
The Nolah has a deep amount of sinkage and high levels of bounce. Being a latex hybrid, the Nolah also has a more generalized contour, compared to the exacting contour of traditional memory foam. So even though the sinkage is deep, this mattress does not generate that “stuck” feeling.
For side sleepers, latex is a less common choice, but can still work for side sleepers wanting natural materials. The Nolah Natural does have a medium feel (5 out of 10), which helps allow for that deep level of sinkage that many side sleepers need. But it’s not going to be the same exacting contour that you’ll get with a memory foam mattress.
The Nolah Natural has a performance score of 9.33, which ranks it in the top 4% of all mattresses tested to date.
In addition to higher performance, it also has a price tag that is below average, 8% less than the average latex hybrid (a savings of $140 for a queen size). Overall, the Nolah Natural is an outstanding value for a latex hybrid.

Avocado Eco

Best For
- Extremely bouncy mattress
- Low motion transfer despite high bounce
- GOLS-Certified organic latex and no toxic additives
Considerations
- Average edge support with room for improvement
- Thin profile may not be ideal for heavier weighted sleepers
- Trial and warranty periods are shorter than average
Our Verdict
The Avocado Eco mattress is a 10″ latex hybrid mattress comprised of a thin GOTS-certified wool cover, 2″ of GOLS-certified latex foam, and a pocketed coils made of recycled steel.
The Avocado Eco is only available in a single firmness option, which is a 5.5 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm. This gives it a medium feel.
This mattress has deep sinkage and very high levels of bounce. This gives the surface a plush, enveloping feeling that maintains high ease of movement so you won’t feel stuck.
For side sleepers, this deep sinkage will go a long way to allow heavier parts of the body to reach a comfortable depth while maintaining spinal alignment. Heavier sleepers may sink a bit too far, as the latex foam layer is only 2″.
In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 9.31, ranking the mattress in the top 5% of all mattresses tested to date. Latex hybrids generally perform well, and among latex hybrids specifically, it is ranked in the top 16%.
However, the price is its real advantage over similar models. The Avocado Eco is $1,169 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 32% less expensive than the average latex hybrid. Overall, this is an incredible value for those who like the feel of latex and are under 250 lbs.

Glacier Apex

Best For
- Budget-friendly price for a memory foam hybrid
- The best memory foam hybrid we’ve tested to date
- Outstanding pressure relief and edge support performance
Considerations
- Limited bounce hurts sex performance
- Memory foam creates slower responsiveness
- Thick 14″ profile could be too thick for some aesthetics
Our Verdict
The Glacier Apex mattress is a 14.25″ memory foam hybrid mattress made up of a plush quilted cover, copper-infused memory foam, gel-infused memory foam, poly foam, and a pocketed coil unit.
The Glacier Apex is available in a single firmness level — medium-firm, which is a 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale, where 10 is the most firm.
This mattress has moderate sinkage and low levels of bounce. It provides a high degree of contour and hug while not overly enveloping your body with material.
For side sleepers, the extra material in the comfort layer is perfect for bodies to sink into on their side. The poly foam layer beneath the memory foam layers acts as a transitional buffer so heavier body parts are prevented from coming into contact with the pocketed coil support unit.
In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 9.27, ranking the mattress in the top 6% of all mattresses tested to date. For memory foam hybrids, in particular, this is as good as it gets. It is ranked in the number 1 spot in that category.
The Glacier Apex is $1,399 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 3% lower than average. For such a top-tier mattress, especially for those looking for a memory foam feel, this mattress has incredible value.

Bear Elite Hybrid

Best For
- Truly exceptional cooling performance with an optional enhanced cover for purchase
- 5″ of quality comfort material creates outstanding pressure relief
- Strong edge limits compression while sitting or sinking around the perimeter of the mattress
Considerations
- Motion transfer levels are a worse than average
- Very deep sinkage may not be preferred by all sleepers
- High bounce levels are great for sex, but make motion worse
Our Verdict
The Bear Elite Hybrid mattress is a 14″ hybrid mattress made of a thick quilted cover, memory foam, poly foam, a pocketed coil unit, and a thin support foam layer at the base.
The Bear Elite Hybrid is available in three firmness levels — soft (5), medium-firm (6), and slightly firm (7).
This mattress has very deep sinkage and high levels of bounce. This is the best of both worlds as the Bear Elite will envelop you in its thick comfort layer while staying extremely easy to move around on.
For Side Sleepers, the deep sinkage will come in handy as heavier body parts will need to sink lower to achieve the proper spinal alignment. The mix of quilted cover, memory foam, and poly foam allows for a controlled, comfortable pushback with little risk of reaching the pocketed coil unit.
In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 9.26, ranking the mattress in the top 7% of all mattresses tested to date. It is also part of the rare subset of mattresses with perfect scores in both cooling and pressure relief, the two areas sleepers care about the most.
The Bear Elite Hybrid is $1,578 for a queen-sized mattress, which is 8% more expensive the average mattress we’ve tested. In this price range and with this performance, the Bear Elite Hybrid is a fantastic value mattress for side sleepers.

Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid

Best For
- Exceptionally low motion transfer – great for couples
- Edge Support is excellent for sitting and lying
- Fantastic pressure relief with 3″ of dense memory foam
Considerations
- Slower response time from the layers of memory foam
- Strong off-gassing smell that lasted longer than average
- Good but not great sex score
Our Verdict
The Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid mattress is a 12″ memory foam hybrid mattress made of memory foam, pocketed coils, and a base support foam and its topped with a thin “cooling refresh” cover.
The Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid is available in a single firmness level — medium, with a rating of 5 out of 10, where 10 is the most firm.
This mattress has deep sinkage and moderate levels of bounce. The 3″ of memory foam allows for a high degree of contour and hug, though the sinkage never felt “too much.”
For side sleepers, that thick memory foam layer is fantastic for providing a balance between dense comfort material and deep sinkage to achieve a neutral spinal alignment.
In our performance tests, this mattress earned an overall score of 9.25, ranking the mattress in the top 8% of all mattresses tested to date. As a memory foam hybrid, it’s right up there with the Glacier Apex in terms of overall score performance.
From a price perspective, the Amerisleep AS3 Hybrid is $1,449 for a queen-sized mattress, which is essentially the average mattress price based on 360+ mattresses tested to date. For an average price, the AS3 provides incredible value

Our Verdict
The Brooklyn Bedding Aurora Luxe is a hybrid mattress that is 13.25″ thick and contains poly foam, pocketed coils, and a thin support foam base, all wrapped in a quilted cover.
It is available in three firmness levels—Soft (4), Medium-Firm (6), and Firm (8).
In our tests of the Medium version, the Aurora Luxe mattress has moderate sinkage and moderate bounce for a balanced feel, all-around.
For side sleepers, the Aurora Luxe is a top pick thanks to the plush quilted cover, high-quality comfort foams, and zoned coils, all of which contribute to the 10/10 pressure relief score. The varying firmness levels are also advantageous for sleepers of different body weights.
In our performance tests, the Aurora Luxe Hybrid has an overall score of 9.24, which ranks it in the top 8% of all mattresses tested to date. Looking specifically at hybrids, the Aurora Luxe is within the top 10.
Concerning price, this mattress is a little less than the average hybrid but not by much—a difference of 8% or $126 for a queen mattress. It has a better performance, so many sleepers may find that the added price is worth it for the added performance.
